The Last Dragons

History

 

Dragons have walked the earth for millions of years. They lived long before any other creatures and survived the cause of death for the dinosaurs. Humans lived amongst them for centuries without conflict. However, the peace did not last and the dragons were unable to survive until the end of the human era. After the Industrial Revolution in Europe and America, cities grew, human population increased dramatically, and with the improved technology, dragons were being forced from their territories to make room for the expanding settlements. Thousands upon thousands of dragons were killed, and their numbers dwindled to a few hundred within a year.

 

In fear of extinction, the dragons conceived a plan to ensure that once the humans died out, there would be dragons to live on Earth. On an island undiscovered by humans (and never to be discovered by humans), the survivors sealed two eggs of each species in a cave. Magic was used to put the eggs into stasis for 3,000 years. Only then would they all hatch and bring back the existence of dragons. Unfortunately, the survivors used much guesswork and hopeful thinking, as they did not know exactly when the humans would die out or whether the island would ever be discovered. It seemed luck was on their side though.

 

 

Present

 

It is now the year 4800 and time for the dragons to hatch. The humans have finally died out due to disease and warfare. Dragons have not been seen for over 2,000 years. The planet is healing from human waste, building, and pollution. Most animal species are still alive as well. The continents have changed dramatically since the eggs were put to sleep, and the little island has attached itself to a large landmass that is identical to the Cave (in-game).

Plot

You are one of the eggs coming out of stasis. None will have any recollection of what happened before they were sealed in the cave. As soon as the first egg hatches, the seal will break on the cave and the hatchlings will be able to explore their new home. However, with no adult dragons to teach you how to hunt, how to fight, and simply how to survive, your life will be full of hardships. You must work together to make it to adulthood and find a mate to rebuild your species. Can you do it? Or will predators, hunger, and even your comrades kill you first?

 

 

Rules

1. All DC Forum rules apply

2. Keep all violence and romance at a PG-13 level. If you want your dragons to have eggs, be very subtle and vague with anything that occurs between dragons.

3. No godmodding, Mary-sues, or any of that stuff

4. Do NOT take advantage of the open plotline. Last time I kept it open dragons were killing and eating each other...

5. Only select dragons that are not taken and are not on the list that you cannot use.

6. Keep fighting in general to a minimum. You guys are near extinct as it is.

7. It's a good idea to PM users about mating with their dragons before you get too flirty.

8. One character per user

9. Post in darker colors please. I don't want people's eyes to hurt.

10. Posts should be at LEAST 5 sentences long, and grammar and spelling should be decent

Personality: Upon introduction, Fyria is aggressive, stubborn, and distrusting. She is fiercely protective of those she cares about and dangerous to mess with. However, deep down there is a kind and motherly dragon that is both intelligent and a skilled fighter. She does not openly attack unprovoked, but Fyria makes it known the she is fearless and devoted.

Crush/Mate?: None as of now

Talents/ Abilities: She is immune of fire and any degree of heat. The fire she produces is hotter and stronger than most other dragons'

Other: Her wings are a tad bit larger than the average Hellhorse

Gender: Female

Species:

Personality: Aria and Iria are two different consciousness and think of themselves as such. Like twins they have voices that sound the same and although not necessary they will often speak at the same time. When they get into a fight you will know it, they will ignore each other for awhile and then suddenly be yelling, screeching and biting. Between the two of them Aria is much shyer and quieter and is harder to make friends with. Iria is certainly loud enough to compensate for her sister, she is very hyper and silly and at times can be very annoying. Iria is easy to make friends with and both of them will protect friends fiercely.

Crush/Mate?: None

Talents/ Abilities: Aria and Iria are great fighters and surprisingly fast and agile, and can strike twice as fast with twice as many heads.

Other: Aria and Iria are smaller than the average two-head

Personality: Raymi is a quiet and slightly shy, but enjoys the company of other dragons. She often tries to overcome her shyness in an attempt to make new friends, and becomes more sociable after becoming friends with a dragon. She is very calm, rarely losing her temper or becoming angry, but she does become extremely protective if she believes her friends or family are in danger.

Crush/Mate?: Nope

Talents/ Abilities: Raymi is very quick at flying and is a good hunter. She is good at swimming, though she can't swim as well as aquatic dragons.

Personality: Lifaen is kind and smart. He has a short patience span and can be sometimes stubborn. He is honest but he doesn't always tell the truth sometimes. Lifaen is very chatty and can talk for hours without taking a break. Lifaen can be annoying because of his non stop talking but when he finally realises that the dragon he is talking to is starting to get annoyed he stops talking immediately. He likes to make friends with as many dragons as he can.

Talents/ Abilities: Lifaen is a very good fighter and he can swim.

Personality: Neruth is a loner. He often merely watches disputes, rather than getting involved. He never makes long-lasting attachments, and always puts himself first. Self-preservation is his one and only driving force.

Talents/ Abilities: Can move with almost complete silence during the night. However, he is much more clumsy during the day.

Personality: Kite is outgoing and tenacious. He loves giving time to people, and readily sacrifices his time and attention for others, being the considerate dragon he likes to think he is, and gets lonely by himself. Kite is also a bit of a show-off, loving being praised, and in turn loves to praise others. He is trusting and willing to think the best of anyone.

Crush/Mate?: none...

Talents/ Abilities: He is excellent at climbing and jumping, and will be a talented glider as he gets older, with one fault in his gliding technique.

Other: He is known to spend much of his time gazing longingly at the sky.

Personality: Levania is a narcissistic, ungrateful snob. She's a dishonest backstabber who will sacrifice anything (or anyone) to climb the social tower. She likes to assert power. Because she is a small dragon, she'll defend herself by giving a nasty, venomous bite. One of her good traits is that she can give helpful info to those who need it - but obviously for a price.

Crush/Mate?: She'll pretend to love a male and very likely toy with their heart. She does this because she wins them easily. Not only that, but they may have benefits such as easy food. None right now.

Talents/ Abilities: She's very good at spreading rumors. She can also be very stealthy, that way she can eavesdrop.

Species:

Personality: She is adventurous and playful. Although she isn't extremely social, she does build a strong relation with those she trusts. To Estra, life is and adventure and she wants to experience it all. There is no bad in the world, as far as she knows, and a lot to enjoy.

Crush/Mate?: None (Ferovan if he returns)

Talents/ Abilities: Estra is an excellent climber and very fast.

Other: She has a lame wing and it took her 3x average amount of time to learn how to fly.

Personality:Royanne is a nice,caring dragon, who likes to explore and fly.Generally shy, she talks very quietly and doesn't like large crowds. She enjoys collecting various pretty ornaments to adorn her home. Royanne is a great hunter and when in any danger she doesnt hesitate to defend herself. Others find her to be a little odd but in general a nice dragon.

Crush/Mate?: Not yet

Talents/ Abilities: She is a great artist, often seen scratching patterns on trees with her sharp claws or painting stones with some fruit juice or animal blood in her free time.

Other:Royanne's wings are a little longer than the average royal blue.

Personality: Lyr is brave but shy at times and she can easily be intimidated. Her small body makes it easy for her to dodge attacks. She is equally good at returning back some nasty blows. She may be small, but she has a big heart and beleives shes as big as any other dragon or hatchling. She is intelligent and always observant

Personality:Luna is a very quiet dragon. She is very polite and is never rude. She hates fighting and arguing and will help almost anyone in need.

Talents/ Abilities:Luna can fly/walk without making a sound. This helps her get from place to place without being noticed.

Neruth blinked his eyes open. I'm hungry, he thought, and this space is cramped. I must get out. He examined his confines, and found the point which he judged to be the weakest. Clumsily, he shifted around until his back legs were pointed directly at the weak spot, and he jabbed at it. A small, rectangular chip flew out of the egg, and cracks snaked along it's surface. Neruth could see a bright light, and had to stop for a moment while his eyes adjusted. Eventually, he turned around, and started making the hole larger with his claws. After it was large enough to climb out of, Neruth took a tenuous step out. However, Neruth put his paws on the eggshell, not the ground, causing the egg to tip, and send him sprawling out onto the ground. Neruth got up, shaking his head, and began to look around in awe.

As Iria opened her eyes all she could see was darkness. Twisting around she saw Aria and then a tip of their tail. It's cramped in here! Iria thought as she kicked the eggshell with her back legs. Creating a small hole Iria looked over as Aria's green eyes snapped open. As Aria started biting the edge of the hole Iria continued kicking until they spilled out and shook themselves off. "What is this place?" Aria asked, twisting around to look behind them. "I don't know but look at all the eggs." Iria said peering around. "Hey look!" Iria exclaimed, "Someone else hatched!" ~ Fyria

 

Something pulled a young dragon from her sleeplike state. Her eyes opened to a dark enclosed space that forced her body to be curled into a tight ball. Her next and only thought then was escape. She kicked at the walls of the cage she was trapped inside until cracks formed in the shell. A final shove toppled the egg, shattering it and sending Fyria tumbling out.

 

The Hellhorse landed on a soft, sandy floor with patches of grass poking through. She was in a huge cave. Ivy hung from the walls, and water flowed from the roof into a large pool towards the back of the cave. Lastly, she noticed dozens of other dragon eggs scattered throughout the cave. Her attention then turned to a small black hatchling with small bright markings and a blue one that appeared to have two heads. They seemed to be the only other hatched dragons.

 

Fyria approached them and greeted with a soft, "Hello."

Neruth shook his head, and turned around to see two other dragons, one of which had ... two heads? I must be going insane, Neruth thought, but answered calmly, my name is Neruth. And before you ask, no I do not know why we just hatched, where we are, or if there are any other creatures in this world. Now, if you don't mind, I will be off to find something to drink. Neruth wandered off, exiting the cave. Looking to his left, Neruth saw a small stream, with some large-flat rocks by its side. He walked onto one, and lowered his head to take a sip of the water. It took practice, and Neruth felt like he almost drowned himself the first time, but eventually he managed to drink from the stream, and slake his thirst. Edited July 5, 2013 by Shibadruid

Raymi's purple eyes snapped open and she looked around as best she could in the confined space. Her eyes narrowed and she jabbed the side of the egg, causing small pieces to fly off. Pulling her leg back she kicked again, making the hole grow larger. Trying to reposition herself the egg tilted over, breaking it open and Raymi spilled out. Standing up she flapped her wings frantically as she tried to balance herself before she finally relaxed. Her head turned slightly, looking around the cave for other hatchlings. Finally, catching sight of some and stumbled towards,"Hi." she greeted them, her voice coming out as a squeak.

Lifaen was nice and cosy were he was and he didn't want to get out of what he was in but something was telling him that he should try and get out. Lifaen kicked and fell out, hitting the ground with his head. Ouch! Lifaen stood up and looked around, there were other hatchlings like him standing so he went over too them. "Hello." he said. Fyria was slightly surprised at the Nebula's reply, but said nothing. It did make her ponder the things mentioned, but decided to worry about them later. The dragon flicked her tail in brief greeting to the others before trotting to the mouth of the cave. Blinking against the morning sun, she gazed out at rolling plains dotted every few hundred feet with a tree. Over the horizon, a forest, desert, coastline, mountain range, and volcanic area could be seen, circling the plains area. It appeared that a single peak rested in the middle of the plains, and that is where the cave resided.

 

The tall grass tickled the Hellhorse's hooves as she wandered a little farther from the mouth. Bird's song could be heard, and she spotted something moving in the grass. Quick as mouse, she pounced on the furry thing and killed it with a blow to the head. It was grey with a rather fluffy tail, and a small amount of blood flowed from the head wound.

 

The smell of the blood awoke Fyria's hunger and she moved closer and took a bite. Warm and satisfying, the meat filled her belly in only a few mouthfuls, leaving plenty left over. Picking up the carcass, she returned tothe cave and placed it at the entrence.

He was trapped for so very long... his sleep, he felt, should have ended long ago. No more nap time, please! He was awake, the grip of the spell on him gone, and Kite kicked out with his legs, pressing on the sides of the shell, bursting with anticipation to be free... and as the egg swayed, and Kite paused to catch his breath, he heard the other eggs hatching. I want to join them too! And with this thought, he managed to hatch out of his egg and roll backwards onto the cave floor. Getting up and leaving the ruins of his egg behind, he quickly spotted the growing group of hatchlings and ran over to join them. "Hey!"

 

As he approached Kite decided to say again, "Hi," and grinned goofily. Then he was distracted by Fyria's return with something delicious smelling. "Ohhhhh..." His attention was caught. At her next words, he didn't need second bidding, and went over to take a bite. Mmm... he chewed, then swallowed, then licked his lips. He backed off for someone else to take a turn. "Thank you!" he told the Hellhorse girl hatchling. Then wondered, and asked wide-eyed, "Where did you get it? How?" He had no idea where this food came from! He had just hatched, after all.

Raymi turned her head curiously as she saw the hatchling bring something in. It looked rather fluffy to her, but if it was food then that would be good. She nodded slightly at the hellhorse hatchling,"I am." she said. Her bright blue scales glittered brightly even int he dull light of the cave as she edged her head slightly closer to the prey, smelling it curiously. She leaned her head back, feeling her hunger nag at her.

Fyria backed up to allow the Canopy and Skywing to eat their fill. She pondered the Canopy's question briefly before answering, "I found it in the grass. It was running about and I pounced on it and killed it. I don't really know what made me do it... it just made sense I suppose." The Hellhorse glanced over her shoulder again at the plains, wondering if other creatures were out there. She doubted that the hatchlings were the biggest or most dangerous things around, but she decided not to let it worry her.

As the hellhorse asked if they were hungry Iria and Aria came to the same decision. "Yup!" Iria said as they both bent down to take a bite, "Mmmmm" they said at the same time "Thanks!" taking a step back Iria looked at the other hatchlings, "I'm Iria" she said, "And I'm Aria." Aria added playfully pulling on one of Iria's horns, "Who are you?"

Raymi took a few quick bites, not needing to eat much due to her small size. The meat tasted nice, but she wasn't all that hungry. She looked around the cave and let out a low trill, listening to the slight echo from the cave. sighed and started walking out, feeling thirsty,"I'm going to get a drink." she said before exiting the cave adding,"Oh! I'm Raymi." before walking out of earshot. She walked past the other hatchling perched on a rock and positioned herself on a soft amount of ground. Lowering her head she took a long drink of water, managing to keep her eyes and nose above it. The water felt cool and refreshing to her and she turned her head as she watched something swim near the bank.

"Wow... you're really smart!" Kite smiled at the hatchling who had caught the food, then looked over at Iria and Aria. "Oh! I forgot! My name is Kite." He paused, then said, "Thanks!" He really didn't want to forget introductions; they were really fun when getting to know people! Oh.. and they reminded him that he was still hungry, but he didn't mind. Much. Let him take a moment to think about this...

 

Raymi said she was getting a drink. He supposed that the awesome hatchling who caught the food didn't look hungry, and would tell her name if he decides to take another bite. Iria and Aria were there and able to eat even if he took a bite... but there was the hatchling who said 'Hello', and Kite didn't want to get in his way if he wanted to eat, because Kite already had a bite and it wouldn't be fair if he hogged it all. He decided to wait a bit more. He wouldn't die. He stopped thinking about food

 

"Hey, what do you guys think about going into the grass? We might find more of these cool things!" Okay, so his 'conversational' thoughts led to 'exploring' thoughts which led to 'food' thoughts, but it was a process.

Neruth got up. The sun had been nice for a time, but he felt like he needed more. Neruth began stretching his wings, when he realized something: not all of the other dragons had wings! In fact, there was only one other dragon with wings, and it did not have any front legs. Neruth attempted to use his aforementioned wings, to a minor success. He managed to get off of the ground, but only just. As soon as he got into the air, his wings began to give out, launching him back to the ground. Neruth decided to try a different tactic. He walked backwards, facing the upper edge of the stone. Neruth started running, and built up as much speed as he could before jumping at the edge of the rock. Using this momentum, Neruth unfolded his wings, and glided slowly downwards. Neruth found that, by leaping off of a tall ledge, he could glide through the air for a significant period of time. Eventually, Neruth became bored of this discovery, and began to look for something to eat.

Raymi's eyes glittered with amusement and curiosity as she watched the thing in the water. She launched her head forward, snapping her tiny jaws on it. As she dragged it onto the ground, with it slowly going still, she turned her head towards the sound of flapping wings. She turned her head as she watched the little hatchling. As she saw him land she let out a loud trill, dragging the thing she had caught towards it,"What's your name?" she asked as she got closer.

"My name is Fyria," the Hellhorse said to the rest of the group. Before anything else could be said, however, something else new caught her eye. A tiny winged creature fluttered about in the grass nearby. She growled and charged after it, chasing it in random zigzags as the butterfly changed direction.

 

Soon enough, the hatchling tired and was forced to rest by a pool of water. Fyria took a long drink before whipping her tail against the surface of the water, sending droplets flying into the air. She couldn't help but admire the way they caught the sun's rays.

Neruth turned to face the hatchling, a Skywing, and said, my name is Neruth. Might I ask how you caught that animal, and where? I am hungry, and would like to find something to eat. Neruth finished, and then began to survey the grasslands for anything scurrying around. Eventually, Neruth noticed that the taller grass parted in patterns, and that he could follow a path through it. The next time the part in the grass came close to him, Neruth leapt, and caught a mouse. Neruth killed it quickly, and ate it. Never mind, Neruth said, I can hunt for myself. Might I ask for your name, however?

Raymi nodded slightly at the hatchling,"My name is Raymi." she answered. Her purple eyes glittered slightly as she looked at him,"It was swimming in the water." she explained, turning her head towards the river. She looked back and kicked the prey slightly towards him,"You can have it. I already ate." she said. The edges of her mouth curled back slightly, revealing a form of a smile.

Neruth nodded, and replied, thank you. I think I will go off to explore soon. You may join me if you wish. Neruth took a bite out of the fish, and brought it back to the cave. Neruth saw another piece of meat, and decided to start a pile of food for later. Looking around, Neruth could already see another hatchling, and expected that more would arrive soon. The amount of eggs in the cave was astounding, and Neruth picked out at least two others that looked like his own. There may be other hatchlings like me, Neruth thought, which could be good. Then again, it could also be bad. Only time will tell.
