Pretty sure I haven't posted with a 4G here yet but this is what I'm working on. Just need to find myself another 2G sunsong and then I can resume working on a mate to bring this to the 5th gen. ^^

Maybe if both parents are coppers, it's fifty-fifty chance? Would this explain the "unexplained" egg colors?

yes this is what i've always thought lol i posted the exact thing a few posts above yours.

 

i'm pretty sure it's 50/50. maybe it works like tinsels/shimmers where they only produce one color if bred to the same mate over and over.

and female flamingo x male verdigris chacker ( 3x 2G flamingos so far)

but haven't got past 2nd gen yet

It should have been orange, right? Tri-Horns are from the Alpine biome and according to the Wiki that's where the orange Coppers come from.

Trihorns were originally released in the Desert

Trihorns and Turpentine's were originally released into the wrong biome, and were later switched. Any Tri-Horn or Turp caught before the move will breed the original biome's color. Lessee.... TriHorns were originally in Desert, then moved to Alpine. And Turpentines were originally in Alpine and were then moved to Desert. The Alpine Turpentines are more rare than the Desert Trihorns I do believe, as the Turps were changed 12 hours after their release and I think the TriHorns were in Desert for a day or two.

 

I've got a couple of both, I think....

so according to wikia,

if it follows the male copper x female dragon = color of mother's biome

the mother is another brown copper, so in turn, shouldn't it be brown?

 

if it follows the female copper x male dragon = female's color

the mother is a brown copper, so why it the child red?

The mother was bred, not caught in a biome. Therefore, it is not guaranteed to be the mother's color.

 

When two non-cb Coppers are bred, the offspring can be either parent's color. It has yet to be determined if two particular Coppers will always produce the same color, or if there's a 50/50 chance for either color every breeding.

Ok, here is exactly what the rules are regarding breeding coppers. This is directly from TJ. As far as I know, bred dragons do not have biomes, nor do dragons stolen before biomes were implemented, nor prize dragons.

 

So, as you can see, random should never happen. I paraphrased this earlier, but here is the direct quote. So color of copper eggs is determined first what biome the egg is picked up in for CB, then the biome of the mother if the egg is bred, then if she has no biome, it's the breed (color) of the copper father, then it's the breed of the copper mother.

 

So, I don't know why Amazon's was green.

 

So I would assume it would colour for forest or for jungle depending where the stripe was caught - unless the stripe was caught before biomes exsited, in which case it's random.

 

Red for forest, green for jungle.

 

But if the stripe is the FATHER, it will colour for the copper mother as that will be the colour for her biome.
