Yeah, I tried getting the discord people to make an announcement, but they shrugged it off saying that Ambition1 was a kid looking for attention.  II think that all threats should be dealt with, regardless of whether they're a kid looking for attention or the person who killed EATW.

Can't tell if they're trolling me or not, but seems pretty legit...  I thought is was something like this, but I never knew they were keeping a list of scrolls.  As I was the one who received the email, I will contact those whose names are on their 'hit lists' for viewbombing.  I'm going to assume that they will be adding my name to the lists any day now...

 

You need to report this site to tumblr support--well, we all do. 

 

Also, can someone contact a mod and have them contact TJ with the info. As owner of DC, perhaps his words would have more weight. He might have his attorney send a C&D letter. 

 

But I'll say this, tumblr has tons of *graphic* porn0 pic sites. They allow those sites. Okay,, free speech and all that. The bad thing is such tumblrs are always trying to friend/follow/whatever non-p0rn tumblrs. When I contacted the tumblr support team, they informed me that they wouldn't or couldn't stop these p0rn0 tmblrs from contacting me or anyone else. I was furious and said so. Then, they told me to take my tumblr private, but then  none could see it, as far as I know.   

 

So, don't expect a lot of help from tumblr, alas.

I'm all for free speech.  (and, for the record, I don't get disturbed when I get contacted by sites like those and tend to troll them)  Just wondering, why not contact TJ directly through email?

This really needs to be brought to TJ's attention. An entire website of ppl dedicated to killing dragon eggs? Thats a bit extreme, and I don't think we should be punished for the cruelty and cold-heartedness of others. :/

I don't know why they're doing this, it's so petty and ridiculous. But I'm also not picking up any eggs. I've been losing interest in this site lately anyway, and I don't see any point in picking up eggs if I have to watch them like a hawk.

 

Special occasions like releases and holidays are a different story, but otherwise...

Wow. People has really nothing to do in their life lol I knew that give access to internet to kids was a bad bad idea. But,as the old wise man says,stupid people are like a hot-air balloon and your attentions are the hot air. Take it away from them and they'll fall. I suppose we could just take our precautions and our remedies without make noise or giving them attentions. Maybe they'll lose interest after a while.

It's possible that some people got angry at dragon cave and hold a grudge against everyone who supports the site. There could be plenty of reasons why that could be though.

 

@Miaplacidus we could try that, but that would require nobody to complain about viewbombing for quite a while (I'm thinking 6 months to a year since some people tend to be ultra-persistent) and I'm not sure people will tolerate It for that long without complaining.

Honestly, I doubt tumblr will do anything about it since it's for free speech and such. I mean, they're not actually harming anyone.  You could say they're harming the game, but as long as they aren't hacking into the site, they aren't really doing anything.  I don't think that even TJ could really do anything about it.  Aren't C&Ds for actual illegal acts anyways?  Technically, he could claim harassment, but you'd have to be the one being harrased.  I'm not a lawyer though.  Maybe someone with more knowledge in the field could weigh in?

I've kept quiet about this for a while (other than warning people online simultaneously to me in PM when I caught it happening), but to my surprise, it appears these people aren't trolls. This isn't troll behaviour (trolls get bored and stop), this is actual compulsive behaviour - they sound like they're essentially helpless to change their behavioural patterns, then built a shrine to it, clamouring for structure. This just breaks my heart; poor guys! For us it's just pixel dragons, but these people must be so powerless and terrified, with no way to express it. I hope someone can figure out who this is so they can be helped before their compulsive behaviour causes them greater harm than a spat with an adoptables site. If this is a botnet, these people's compulsions have already driven them to illegal acts, which spells genuine danger for the rest of their lives.

 

That said, my feelings of concern don't fix the sadness this is causing others; perhaps it's time to rethink the sickness mechanic in earnest. I've sent Flight Rising a note about the site (since they're also targeted, albeit in a very different fashion), and given Tumblr and Weebly a heads-up, in case either of them want to do anything about this.

 

@Draconiusultamius If they have a botnet consisting of infected machines, that is in itself already illegal in many countries. That said, while it doesn't violate Tumblr's Community Guidelines directly, it does violate the spirit of them. Tumblr don't want "disruptions, exploits or resource abuse" on their own servers, which by way of categorical imperative suggests they probably frown upon this happening to other sites as well (although they may not feel qualified to decide what disruptions on other sites are and thus have no formal rule against it). They might yet be able to cooperate with TJ to get information about the source.

 

Weebly on the other hand outright disallow bothering people ("You will not: [...] "stalk," “bully,” or otherwise harass another") and generally have a ToS that sounds a lot more restrictive.

How can one know for sure that one is being viewbombed?

 

I had a situation during the last Halloween event that was suspicious,  I didn't yell much about it at that time.... and really I ought to have recalled to fog new eggies and not to put them in a hatchery right away, ( AND I normally hit new eggs with an incubate, too) but I happened to forget on that occasion. Next morning, I had lost a few eggs.... and others were sick. Honestly I had been inactive for a while and I blamed myself for what had happened at the time and went out and recaught what I lost ( NOTHING too irreplaceable as I recall). Still it makes me wonder. I couldn't prove it was veiwbombing then.... nor can I say for sure now. LUCKILY I managed to avoid that EATW incident...impressively because that was always one of my go to sites for my eggs and hatchies. All told, it is remarkable that nothing of mine WAS involved because I ALWAYS used EATW for my hatching./ growing dragons.. FORTUNATELY I happened to read about what was going on on the forums here BEFORE I tossed my eggs in there! SO on that point I can only say 'THANK YOU' to those that sounded the warning about it! You very likely saved some of the pretty Christmas dragons now living on my scroll from death.

 

ALSO.... what EXACTLY is discord?

 

I stalked that viewbombing TUMBLR to investigate and.... it SEEMS as if that is where they are getting their lists of targets from.

Trust me, that discord's more trouble than it's worth. You try to be nice... fine, I'm gone from it. Place just feels off, and then the bombers. Not worth it.

I have heard it's - a bit rough. I do know someone left the whole of DC over it.  I just hate the layout, the way it looks. And I can't see a need for it. But others disagree.

@JavaTigress Try not adding all your eggs to hatcheries.  If they get somehow get a bunch of views and end up sick, then you are being viewbombed.  I honestly don't see the problem with discord since people on there seem more active and it's really good for organizing experiments, but I don't use it much otherwise.
