Posted May 21, 2013 (edited) So, I'm getting a new male kitty and I was wondering what to name him. Then I thought, "Heck, I can't be the only person out here with this dilemma!" So I made this thread. I'm sure it will be very helpful not only to new kitty owners, but to owners of other creatures as well Edited May 21, 2013 by Princess Kiara Share this post Link to post
Posted May 21, 2013 Loki is the best name for anything, especially a cat. Share this post Link to post
Posted May 21, 2013 I recommend Pickles, Toolbox, Satellite (if he has big ears), Bananas, or Fred. Share this post Link to post
Posted May 21, 2013 I doubt it's what you're looking for, but... I've always wanted to name a cat Schrödinger. For science. Share this post Link to post
Posted May 21, 2013 A lot of those names are awfully long, I find that the longer the name, the less likely you are to actually use it. One of our two cats has a long name, Peekaboo, and she is rarely called Peekaboo. Admittedly I am terrible at naming though. Share this post Link to post
Posted May 21, 2013 Our cat's name is Fuzz, with Fuzzbutt, Fluffums, and Hairball thrown in now and again. Most times I call him my Little Lion. Share this post Link to post
Posted May 21, 2013 Out of the suggestions that have been made, I do like Loki and Schrödinger. Cats in our family have always been called Röschen, which is a German diminutive of Rose (Roses are called Rose in German as well). Share this post Link to post
Posted May 21, 2013 Uhmmm I'd say Sherlock or Watson. :3 At least I would never be able to resist that name for a pet of mine. haha my personal liking must talk through me. *^-^* Share this post Link to post
Posted May 21, 2013 I've always wanted to name a black cat Mr Mistoffelees or even Magical Mister Mistoffelees. For poetry reasons. It's probably too long for a cat name though and really tiring to say after a while. Share this post Link to post
Posted May 22, 2013 Loki is the best name for anything, especially a cat. Careful with that name...lol my friends have a cat named Loki and ho boy, does it fit. He is down right evil. My cats name is Johannes Brahms - Johann for short. Share this post Link to post
Posted May 22, 2013 Let's see... we have Yoda (aka Big Grey), Mona (she's a moaner...), Charlie, Sasha, Flippie (his sister Fleur was run over a year ago ), Isabella & Berli. Five of the seven were rescues or rather, they invited themselves in off the street! But really, these are their "vet names". At home they're called "baby", "silly", "myboy/mygirl" etc etc. Share this post Link to post
Posted May 22, 2013 I only own a dog, so I may not be the best with cat names. But there are a ton of cartoon felines from tv shows and movies that would be fun to name a cat after. "Bagheera" (The Jungle Book), "Figaro" (Pinocchio), "Hobbes" (Calvin and Hobbes), "Diego" (Ice Age), "Garfield", "Nala", "Rajah" (Aladdin), "Felix", "Lion-O" (Thundercats) are some of my favorites. Posted May 22, 2013 Congratulations on your new kitty! <3 You should name him whatever name you like best and which suits him best. It may take some time for you to pick his name. It doesn't have to be right away, though it could be. I have even tried out a couple of names before settling on one. After all, it is their name for the rest of their lives, although like people have mentioned, I am sure you will think of lots of nicknames for him, too. As for names, you can google for baby names for suggestions or if you have a hobby, or favorite movie or character, perhaps you want to name him after one. You can also take a word that is meaningful to you and translate it into other languages. Good luck! Share this post Link to post
Posted May 22, 2013 (edited) Nearly all of our cats have nicknames. My cat Darcy is 'Peepants' because he keeps weeing by my door (despite there being a tray nearby for use). My mother's cats Minne and Merlin are 'Basement Cat' and 'Brat Cat'. Our new kittens Angel and Zara are 'Fluffy Bum Number One' and 'Fluffy Bum Number Two'. Anyway, I'd say an important tip for naming a kitten (or puppy) is to chose a name you wouldn't mind being heard yelling at three o'clock in the morning. We do our best to keep our pets inside, but they sometimes sneak out. Edited May 22, 2013 by Fortune86 Share this post Link to post
Posted May 22, 2013 voted Soap, I love it Also, in Romanian "cat" is "pisică" not "pișică" - different sounds ^^ Share this post Link to post

Posted May 22, 2013 Once my current cat meets his time (he's getting rather old, though is still in fairly good health, so it's likely to be at least a few years), I plan on getting another male cat and I will probably name him Scout... just because I've always wanted to have a male cat named that. If I end up getting a female cat instead she'll be named either Mousey or Caroline(Carol for short). Share this post Link to post
Posted May 22, 2013 I´m quite bad at naming but I´d say something like Sasha or Mooney or Tabby. And I like Sparkles. Sounds quite sparkling. Share this post Link to post
Posted May 22, 2013 Let the kitten help you pick out the name? Don't need a cutsie name for a devilish little kitty. My Abby got her name from the NCIS character... being big on the hugs and love... but you mess with her and she will take you down. My Tempe got her name from the Bones character.... when I met her she went off and explored the room and ignored me... but she still wanted love and affection. She is just more subtle. Posted June 5, 2013 I would probably name a male kitten Leonardo or Kazuya and a female one Silver, Antoinette, or Marcella. Neku Sakuraba ( from The World Ends With You) is also a nice name. Share this post Link to post
Posted June 6, 2013 I named my first male cat Terror and my second one Sawyer Share this post Link to post
