Skies of Rain

Recommended Posts

Lani began to shiver, realizing that the sun disappearing brought a chill that was unexpected in the Amazon rainforest, and yet there it was. She had to stop her slow draining of the vines as she brought her legs in close to her chest and hugged them, closing her eyes and laying her head on her knees. "Shelter might be a good idea as protection from predators and keeping warm. Especially keeping warm." She screwed her eyes up tighter, trying not to think about the winds that whipped against her skin. Edited by Rarek

Feli carefully started to gather select leaves and branches. The cold started to settle in and Feli didn't want to be caught without a fire going. First she started to set up a small campfire. She gathered stones to keep around the edges and small kindling along with some larger branches. She piled them in the middle, ready to be lit. Feli looked up from her pile of sticks.

“Hey, Lani can you try and find a way to get this fire started while I make shelter please?”

without waiting for an answer Feli started to weave leaves for a thatch roof She needed mud to use as glue and to fill in any holes that might cause problems. So she opened a fine and poured it into a small pile of dirt. She was trying her best not to use the water, but as of right now it seemed like they had enough. She just hoped no one would notice or be upset, especially since she didn’t ask. Using the mud she was able to finish the roof and start making some stakes to hold it up. Before long, she had almost finished a somewhat stable shelter. The sides where make of sticks leaning onto the main structure, leaves where plastered on with mud. “Almost done,” she sighed to herself. Looking at the shelter, she was rather proud, it seemed like it would hold for the night and it was large enough to house the four survivors.

While Feli and Lani were busy with the shelter and fire, Karrin carefully watched Cody's IV drip. It ran through in half an hour or so, she estimated, and she moved to check Cody when it was done. The skin on Cody's leg, around the wound, seemed less inflamed, which was a good first sign. He was still unconscious, but his pupil reaction was better when she checked it, probably due to him being rehydrated somewhat by the drip. She settled down to wait, with the intention of checking him carefully the next half hour and then possibly starting a second saline IV.

Soon, the sun had gone low enough that it was below the trees, and the forest got significantly darker and colder. Thankfully, the shelter was complete, and so was the fire, Lani having finished it after putting a couple of river rocks around a series of twigs and branches, lighting them with some flint. She was once again next to the fire, huddled into a ball and shivering to get warm.

"We should get some rest," Lani suggested. "We need to be well rested for our next day's travels."

Helping Cody up and to the shelter, Karrin made sure he was settled safely for the night. She checked his leg again to see if the antibiotics had done their job.

"I suggest we keep watches," she said. "Something out there caused Derek to leave us. I'll go first." That would also give her another opportunity to check Cody during the night.

Setting her spear next to her, she sat near the fire with the intention of keeping it going through the night. Not too much fire, but not too little either, she thought. Enough to keep predators at bay, but not so much that any paramilitaries nearby would see it.
