Definately going to a community college first, but I'll probably see about a certain college in April. Is anyone else here going to be a teacher?

Oh my, I'm currently applying for post grad positions and the application forms are deceptively short. Only like 2 pages but one of the questions asks you to attach a 1-2 page outline of your proposed research project and another tells you to attach your specialised CV and cover letter...

Yeah, I'm not gonna get this done by the end of the weekend -.-

That recently came up for me when I was talking to my adviser about classes, "So what are you going to do for a job after you get your degree"

"A job, o_o?"

This is a nightmare week. Organic chem teacher thought it was a good idea to have a lecture test and a lab final on the same day.

I have to memorize like a billion reagents for synthesis on top of everything in lab since our midterm.

Followed by a calculus test on tuesday and a genetics test on wednesday.

In addition, finals next week.

I gotta do some essays and prepare for finals...

I kinda wanna end my life...

But I know if I do it'll be more trouble than it's worth.

It's the memorizing of reagents that's killing me. I really see no purpose to memorizing them.

I get the mechanisms of how they work and I understand what they do, I just can't put names of chemicals to processes without looking at the notes for them.

So the test is going to be horrible because it's all on synthesis.

Sadly enough I'm probably going to do best on the Calculus test.

Aha! Exactly the same for me!

I was like "I dont want to get a job yet.... post grad! POST GRAD!"

Lets see if I get in first though or I'll have to find a job D:

I kind of feel bad becausemy major is going to be in theatre, which I grasp very, very easily, and it seems like you guys have trouble with your classes... However, math will kill me.

Well, I took intro to theatre for a gen ed class and it was pretty intense on my expectations of it.

Speaking of they're doing a Christmas Carol at our school this week and I need to remember to get tickets...

Well, the big chem test is done. It was pretty brutal but no more brutal than I expected. He did give us a list of reagents that significantly helped. Still don't think I did too great but it was no surprise.

I still have to finish this year and the next, and then I can go to college! I'm really hoping to get a sports scholarship, but I don't know. I just can't wait, college seems like it will be WAY more fun then highschool. Even though it will be crazy hard.

I'm not sure if I want to go to college but my parents are probably going to make me go if they can.

My teacher had mercy.

We all convinced him to have our lab test Wednesday.

Even though I do have the genetics exam Wednesday, it's just, two organic tests in a day was going to be too much and everyone agreed.

I was expecting him to be all "LOL J/K guys! Test for real" most of the afternoon though. It's still taking some time to take it in.

Tangle - Certainly don't go to college if you have no desire to. Or take some time to think about it. Try working for a year and seeing how it goes.

Day one of exams done. Know what that means?

NOT STUDY GAME.

... Actually, I don't need to STUDY for anything. Everything else is just handing in papers. >.>

Just wait. Even if theater is your major there will still be the gen eds or university requirements or whatever you want to call them that most colleges make you take that have nothing to do with your major.

Plus even your theater classes could surprise you and give you some trouble, college isn't supposed to be a breeze.

I took one theater class. It was a lot of fun. The instructor kept us busy (reading and memorizing and stuff) but it still was fun. So different from any of my other classes. (I'm a physics major.)

On a different note:

Hahaha! I am done with finals!

(Sorry, had to brag.)

Ah, how different majors eating lunch together can produce funny conversations.

Computer major 1: I used to have Battleship on my old computer.

Me (computer major 2): I have Battleship on a Commodore, but the monitor stopped working a few months ago.

Natural resources major: Commodore?

Computer major 1: It's this ancient computer from the 80s.

History major: Oh, when you said "Commodore" I was thinking of the British navy.

Natural resources major: When you said "Commodore", I was thinking of that one bird.

Me: That's a condor.

College. . .College is a great idea, IF you feel you're ready for it. If not, then take a Gap Year. Work, play, do whatever for about a year then try again. It's highly recommended by many Ivy League schools such as Harvard, Yale, and Cambridge. If you go to college when you're not ready, you'll end up like me. Living and working at the Grand Canyon with barely 6 hours worth of schooling under your belt. And I was going to graduate with a Masters in Teaching next spring. Ah well. . .

College really is a big step from high school, and very few schools really prepare you for it. So anyone heading off to college, HEED THIS! Be sure you are READY to go to college. It will make all the difference in your college experience.

Wish I got my major in something else. Like most idealistic young adults I wanted to do something I loved and money and obstacles and the headaches of the real world be damned cause I was gonna make it. (don't listen to people who say do what you love and the money will follow sleep.gif.......it doesn't)

So now I have a degree, which counts for something at least, and instead of going back for another bachelors I'm just planning on going back for a more relevant Masters now that I have an employer who will pay for it. Oh yeah, I also graduated with no college debt and I didn't get scholarships and my family is pretty solidly middle class and I had to pay off my last semester on my own. I'd never reccomend spending a fortune on an undergrad for the average college bound student, especially if its in something generic like "english" or "communications" or anything where your first job has no hope of you making over 40k your first year. Save the dollars for a graduate degree. It feels pretty dang good to walk out with your paper and not have a mountain of debt to overcome while making only 30k-40k a year fresh out, that is if you can get job.

There's so many other myths about college and the mindsets of college students that irritate me

Yeah, you're living proof college debt is not a necessity. I'm applying to an expensive school, but I know several people who have gone through debt free. I'm going to major in government with a track in strategic intelligence... And if the military doesn't work out I'm headed to law school after. So many options...

I believe most people are in the process of applying to college if you are a highschool senior. So, where are you applying? Do you have any concerns? What are your grades and stuff like?

I'm applying to Wake Forest University, University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, Duke University, University of Michigan, and Stanford.

^^ These are intense colleges above. My number one is University of Michigan. ^^; *do any of you guys go there? I have a 3.9/4.8 Un/Weighted GPA, and my superscored SAT is a 2030. I am involved mainly with music/science activities and I think I have pretty good recommendations. Most of the schools I'm applying to are a stretch for me. I think so, anyways.

Winter Quarter starts for me on Tuesday. Yay. I haven't really thought about the classes yet. I'm still in the holiday mindset, and probably will be until my alarm goes off Tuesday morning. laugh.gif

Winter quarters starts on Wednesday for me. I only have three classes but one of them is two hours long and the first starts at 7:45. Which means I have to be up at 6.

...hooray for early mornings.
