Of Slaves and Royals

Recommended Posts

“Thanks,” Isabeth said beaming. “It was custom made.” Out of the corner of her eye, she had noticed Alec bow to Tybalt and Ella, and she gave him a considering look as Tybalt spoke to Ella. She was only slightly bothered by Tybalt talking to his slave instead of her, but she was more concerned that this ruse wouldn’t work if he did it too much. “You know what? I just had a great idea. Why don’t we have Alexander here be Ellie’s date?” She waved a hand toward Ella, and then without waiting for a reply, she hooked her arm in Tybalt’s as she said, “Any sign of our mutual friend?”

Ella felt a little odd to have another slave bow to her and she worried that wearing such nice clothes might make other slaves think she thought she was better than them. Thus, as she politely nodded in return to Alec, she hoped to later get a chance to explain that that wasn’t the case. She was shaken from her thoughts when Tybalt asked about Rachel, and looking around with a concerned expression, she quietly said, “So did I.” She was about to ask if she should go look for the younger girl but before she could, Isabeth’s suggestion had her ears turning pink as she looked down at her hands. She didn’t know if or how she was supposed to react to that, nor indeed how she felt about it.

Alec

He immediately blushed, well what else would he do he couldn't control it. Well he didn't have a choice unless the other man had anything to say about it. He looked at his feet. I'm not sure I can do this. He thought to himself. Alec looked up and made sure no smile nor frown was there. He had to be neutral about this. He looked at Ella making sure not to make any eye contact. Hopefully I'll be allowed to talk. Otherwise it would be plain old weird. To get his mind off of it he remember hearing them talking about someone named Rachel. Who's that? He wondered.

"Oh well um..." He read their facial expressions and saw Ella was embarassed. The male slave just looked... Stoic? He didn't want for Ella to have a bad time... "Well...? What do you two think?" He asked. Hopefully with permission they could both speak their minds... Though Ella was shy around one royal, hopefully she wouldn't tense around two. "If you two will be miserable I don't want to make you. I'm not trying to pair you up or anything." He looked at Isabeth to make sure she was okay with this. "And no... I haven't seen her yet... She will more than likely show up late."

Alec

He looked at Isabeth wondering if he was allowed to speak. Hopefully this saves me. After that he took a huge risk and just spoke. "I for one, really think it would be awkward if I was put in this situation for I hardly speak and I'm hardly around girls. I would put up with it if I had to but it would not" He exaggerated not. "be fair to her." He gestured to Ella. After that he tensed and sort of made himself look small. I shouldn't have done that.

Isabeth was quite surprised that Tybalt had not only asked the slaves what they thought but also made it sound as though it actually mattered. However, she was shaken out of her surprise when Alec spoke and she looked at him with a raised brow for a moment before admitting to herself that he was only answering a question that he really couldn’t not answer. Still, it was clear to her that Alec had much to learn, so she rolled her eyes and gave a small shake of her head. “I don’t mean like a date date,” she said to Tybalt, “but I’m hoping that your girl can give him some pointers. Daddy said that if Alexander isn’t doing a good enough job in two weeks, then he’s going to send him to a training center and that’s just such a hassle.”

Ella was both relieved and surprised by Alec’s reply for although she agreed that it would be awkward, she knew she wouldn’t have been brave enough to say it so bluntly. Then, she noticed the look that Isabeth gave him and her surprise turned into concern as she tried to figure out what to say that might keep him from getting punished. However, before she could say anything Isabeth started to explain what she meant and Ella was reassured until the end of the explanation. When Isabeth mentioned the training center, Ella paled a little as she gave a small gasp before visibly swallowing so she could say, “O-of course, Miss Isabeth.”

Tybalt sensed that the two of them were uncomfortable with the idea. "Well, perhaps we shouldn't force the two of them together. I think they only know each other anyway at this point, so they will end up hanging out anyway. You two have fun, okay?" He pat Ella's should and linked arms with Isabeth. "I think our company is here regardless."

Kinlea had stepped out of her car, only extravagance displayed. She was in nearly solid silver, the gown almost having a waterfall-like quality to it. She had a statue-esque mask with silver metallics splattered on it, her hair straightened and pulled back into a bun laced with silver pins in it. She had came with another slave, this one almost as decked out as she was. Tybalt didn't make eye contact. "It's odd we haven't been stopped by paparazzi yet. Usually they go straight for me... Oh. Speak of the devil..." He stayed back, as paparazzi flooded Kinlea's car asking why she was alone. "Maybe they thought you were her?" He smirked to Isabeth. "Simple mistake with a mask hiding all that beauty."

Isabeth watched Kinlea with a critical eye and though her dress was really very nice, it would be a cold day in Tartarus before she’d ever actually admit that. Giving a quiet dismissive sniff when the paparazzi swarmed on Kinlea, Isabeth was about to lead them away. However, at Tybalt’s comment she was at first bothered by the thought of being mistaken for such a horrid person, but then he added the part about her beauty and not only did face alight with a pleased smile, but her eyes held a mischievous glint. “Why Tybalt,” she said in a tone that was slightly louder than necessary without being too obviously loud, “you really know how to charm a girl don’t you?”

Though Ella was listening to Tybalt, in the back of her mind she was still fretting about the thought of Alec – or indeed anyone – being sent to a training center. When Tybalt ordered her to have fun, she wasn’t sure if that would be possible but couldn’t tell him that, so she simply gave a meek, “Yes Sir.” As Tybalt and Isabeth started to move away, Ella went to stand next to Alec and after giving a furtive glance around, she leaned slightly toward him as she quietly but urgently said, “Believe me, you do not want to be sent to a training center. Is there anything I can do to help you avoid it?”

Tybalt just smirked a bit, before another bloodhound caught his scent. "There he is!" A photographer tattled, and Tybalt sighed. "...great." They broke off from the pack, trying to decide which prize they wanted. Before two seconds had passed Tybal and Isabeth were surrounded and separated from their slaves. He made sure their arms were still together, they weren't getting a shot of him alone. "Sorry... I guess there's a slow news day or something." He just dipped his head in apology, but kept smiling.

He head Ella's comment. "I doubt it, her dad hates me... So does his slave. "He replied. And plus it seems she's a lot more strict than Tybalt is. I'm not sure if you've been with a strict owner. And her dad probably would send me back to the slave shop. I'll either be killed or be in there for anther 16 years. Hey better than being here." He said with a chuckle. "So what do you want to do. Seems we're separated from our owners. I always thought that was harsh they own another human. Sorry if I talk a lot hardly ever get to talk and I've always wanted to be a chatter box." He took a break to see what she would say. Don't look like an idiot you're acting like those annoying birds that won't shut up. He told himself.

Though Isabeth was actually very pleased when the paparazzi turned their attention to them, the only reaction she allowed to show was to give a long suffering sigh as she said, “No worries.” She brought her other hand to rest on Tybalt’s arm as gave his arm a little squeeze. “As a Vairmont, it’s nothing I’m not accustomed to.” She looked around at some of the paparazzi and with a mock admonishing tone said, “Now boys, make sure you get my good side.” She looked back at Tybalt with a little wink, “Of course, I don’t have a bad side.”

Ella was a little concerned when they got separated from their masters but since she wasn’t alone, she wasn’t afraid…though she was becoming concerned for Rachel. As she listened to Alec, she gave an understanding nod when he mentioned the slave shop. That explains a lot, she thought as she said, “Miss Isabeth does seem to be more like my former masters. Master Tybalt currently only has us two slaves, but my former masters had quite a few and we were always able to talk freely as long as no royals were within earshot.” She lowered her voice a little as she gave him a slightly pointed look. “Of course, the important thing is to know who it’s safe to talk around.” Her tone went back to normal as she looked around and said, “But, right now, what I need to do is find Rachel. Will you please sta-help me look for her?”

Oh, this was very bad. Rachel had somehow gotten separated from Ella and now she was utterly lost. She had removed her mask so that finding them would be easier, though it was still extremely difficult to spot anyone through the crowd. Her panic was growing but she tried to get a hold on it, taking deep breaths and spinning in a small circle in order to try and see Tybalt or Ella. She had a feeling she'd be in trouble for getting lost, but she hadn't wanted to go to the dance in the first place!

"Sure I will." He said. "What does she look like." He said. Alec looked around hoping to somehow know what she looks like.

Ella was relieved when Alec said he’d help her find Rachel both because a second set of eyes would be helpful, and because she really didn’t want to be alone in the sea of strangers. Granted, Alec wasn’t exactly well known to her, but at least their masters knew each other; sort of. “Thanks,” she said with sincerity, and then she started walking as she said, “I came from this way, but I don’t know exactly where we got separated. She’s eleven years old, brown hair, blue eyes, kind of a slight build.” More than ever Ella wished that Rachel had been allowed to not come to the party, and there was obvious concern in her tone as she added, “The doctor said she’s supposed avoid stress. This can’t be good for her.” She considered calling out for Rachel but was too afraid that doing so would bring negative attention to all three of them – or worse, to their masters…

Tybalt just chuckled. "Just let them see you, and any picture will turn out well." He smirked, and he could feel Kinlea's eyes burning into him. He didn't even give her the pleasure of looking at her. "I wish we could find Ella and Alec. And Rachel too. If we don't spot them as soon as we're out of here I'm using the tracker app." He mumbled.

Isabeth gave a chuckle of her own at Tybalt’s comment about pictures as she said, and though she ignored the questions of whether they were a couple, she was rather delighted at how well things were going as she agreed, “Can’t argue with that.” She could just imagine Kinlea seething but, like Tybalt, she didn’t even glance in the crazy lady’s direction. Instead, she looked back the way they had come as she said, “And don’t be such a worrywart. Alexander’s with them, they’ll be fine.” Of course, after the way Kinlea’s goons had treated Alec, Isabeth’s outward calm belied the touch of unease - because it couldn't be concern - that she did feel, and she silently wondered if she was going to have to get some bodyguards after the party.

"I hope so... Ella worries a lot." He smirked, and the camera's flashes started to hurt. Tybalt spared his eyes by turning to Kinlea, who apparently was getting interviews. Great. She gets her side first... At least that would give him time to react? Maybe? Surely there would be something good out of that. Someone asked Isabeth what designer she was wearing, repeating the same damn question multiple times. Yay. Obnoxious reporters.

"I can't see her. She's pretty young but then again I've seen 7 year old slaves." He said. Alec kept looking around hoping to spot her. Hopefully she wasn't too far behind.

((Sorry for short post slacking on homework have to do that.))

At Alec’s comment about Rachel’s age, Isabeth gave him a confused look as she took a breath to say something, then closed her mouth for a moment before saying, “I’m not sure I understand what you mean…I mean, yes Rachel is young, but what’s so odd about a seven year old slave?” Her tone held nothing but confusion for she had always figured that all slaves were born as slaves. However, her tone then turned slightly hopeful as she said, “Wait, is that her?” She saw a small person but before she could tell if it was Rachel a group of people moved between her and the person. “Blast,” she muttered as she craned to try to see either over or through the group.

Isabeth briefly wondered what Tybalt’s slave would have to worry about other than displeasing her master, but then she was asked about her dress and she gave a slightly sly smile as she said, “Why Biggar & Dickson of course.” Her tone implied an unsaid ‘who else?’ and she gave a discrete sideways glance at Kinlea as she added, “It’s such a pity that not everyone can be lucky enough to get a custom design from them.”

"Hmmmm..." He said. "That might be her." Looking at someone different than Ella spotted. "I doubt that's her though." Alec doubted his comment. If we don't see her from here we'll have to go look around." As he looked around he saw kinlea. Alec immediately looked away and shivered. "Can you see her." He asked getting his mind off the devil's child. At least I didn't make eye contact I'd be stone.

When Alec said that he might have seen Rachel, Ella looked where he was looking but shook her head when she didn’t see Rachel. She was about to turn her attention back to where she’d been looking when she noticed Alec shiver. Wondering what was wrong, she looked in the direction that he’d turned from only to see Kinlea. Paling a little under her mask, she looked at Alec as she quietly said, “You know, you’re right and I think I saw her on the other side of that group of people, so how about we go look over there…now.” Though she casually pointed in the direction she was talking about, she had to fight the urge to run as she started to move. She was honestly relieved that she thought she’d seen Rachel for it gave them an excuse to get out of Kinlea’s line of sight.

Tybalt quickly grew bored, and started to sigh. "I am about done with photos... Want to go ahead and go in? I can check on my girls if we walk around. That would give me a chance to pull up the app and find them." Tybalt held her hand and waved politely to the cameras to let them know he was done.

Though she wasn’t sure how she felt about Tybalt insisting on worrying about his girls, Isabeth beamed at his suggestion as she said, “Absolutely, I didn’t get all dressed up just to loiter around outside.” She glanced back to where she thought Alec would be but when she didn’t see him, her brow furrowed for the briefest of moments before she smiled again. “Let’s go dance!”

"Yes, let's go." He escorted her through the crowd, and as they approached the gate, the crowd appeared to thin out. It was large and elegant, the grand hall lit up with chandeliers and expensive outfittings. The slave's entrance was to the far left, more of a rabbit hole to this hall than anything else. It was fiercely divided by tile color, white for the royal's side, a gray strip in between, and a black side for the slaves. "Surely she'll figure out to meet me in the gray." He mumbled. People were sitting down at the huge table laid out, a lavish plate at each spot waiting for their reserved person to fill them up. "Do you want to get food first? Or talk to some of the royals?" He asked Isabeth, and pulled his phone out with his other hand, the tracker app working on loading.

At Tybalt’s mumbling, Isabeth raised a brow in slight surprise as she looked to the grey area. She had never ventured there before because, quite frankly, she’d always viewed it as beneath her. When Tybalt asked what she wanted to do, she scanned the tables and said, “Well, now that you mention it, I am a bit peckish.”

Roundin the group, Ella saw Rachel and her shoulders relaxed as she heaved a sigh of relief. “Rachel,” she said as she went over to her, “thank goodness…” She almost asked what had happened and where she’d been, but she knew that would only make things worse so she simply asked, “Are you okay?”
