Posted November 28, 2012 (edited) I assure you that all these names are used up by me or someone else. Oh and the last option was accdently bunched up.. It's supposed to be: Other All of them Edited November 28, 2012 by olympialeon Share this post Link to post
Posted November 28, 2012 I do believe that this thread is in the wrong section. this place is for asking for help if you have some problems with the site. your topic should probably be in the site discussion thread instead of here. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 28, 2012 (edited) Agreed, this should go in site discussion. Regarding your question, the best dragon names are those that you can remember, even several years down the road. For me, this can be anything - something inspired by the code, something named after parents, naming schemes (which I use for certain lineages), something to describe your dragon... Whatever floats your boat, really. ETA: @OP: Our dragons don't get stripped - but we've got striped dragons. Edited November 28, 2012 by olympe Share this post Link to post
Posted November 28, 2012 Hm, interesting question. I voted "all of them" because I use several of those techniques when I name my dragons. All of them (except for frozens and unbreedables) have a surname that describes their lineage to make breeding easier, but I also name them after codes sometimes, or after their parents (an option that isn't in the poll). Sometimes I name them after things from my favorite books, like my two albinos Cuendillar and Ayyad and my terrae Finnglas (kudos if you get the references). I also have a pair of daydreams named after myself and my boyfriend =) and I occasionally use gemstone names too, like my pink, Tourmaline. I have too many dragons to use just one technique. Posted November 28, 2012 I either use ones I just made up, their parents' names, or words in Deutsch. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 28, 2012 Personally I prefer clever names instead of names like Ted or Mabel. For instance I have a Silver Tinsel named 'Tell Godot I'm Waiting', and a Sunset named "Dawn Don't Show Me Your Crack" and a RW named "Nicholas Cage In Short Shorts" who has a child named "You Might Want To Cover That Up". But really, ANY name is better than that sad string of letters/numbers making up the code that just says dragon owner doesn't care. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 28, 2012 Heehee! Looking at the options on the poll, I realized that I have dragons with ALL of those types of names except for the names that are companies. I only have one with 'my' name in that it's named Libby's Patronus (it's a Shadow Walker, it makes sense in my head). I love searching the internet for names in other languages that mean something descriptive about the dragon - like their element, their color, or an ancient god or goddess. Elvish names are particularly fun. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 28, 2012 Most of my names are either character names from books or movies or random gibberish. But those that are named after characters are always characters with unique names anyways. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 28, 2012 (edited) I think the best names are the ones that fit the dragon well. That means only the owner can really determine the best names for their own dragons. I've had many people like my sunsong dragon names but I think they're okay...I really like my glory drake names, but I was told by someone that if they hatched one of their eggs they would release the hatchling to the wild because of how "bad" the names are. http://dragcave.net/lineage/1kkU or http://dragcave.net/lineage/hiDv? Posted November 28, 2012 (edited) I love using lyrics for my dragons. There is sooo much classic rock on my scroll. I also love my surname. That way I can use what ever name I want. With 1500+ dragons, it has been getting interesting lately though Edited November 28, 2012 by Sister of the Dragon Share this post Link to post
Posted November 28, 2012 Hm, I liked the "Goddess of the Sun," or "Shimmering Snow." I think they're interesting and it sounds cool. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 28, 2012 I name all my dragons with two or three words, capitalized, with no spaces. Like: SleepingStone and MagnificentMoltenMagma. If possible, I'll incorporate their parents' names or other names from their lineage. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 29, 2012 Whatever I feel like at the time. Maybe from the code; maybe from their parents, maybe they are part of a named lineage. I cannot generalise. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 29, 2012 I have a strong preference towards single word names, though I seem to be increasingly letting down my guard in that regard. I like all sorts of names, doesn't matter whether it's "creative" or just a real word. I love Zedryk just as much as I love Cedric (the former I invented while Cedric was owned by someone else). Any name is better than no name, imo. D8 /cries for poor, unnamed offspring of my dragons Share this post Link to post
Posted November 29, 2012 (edited) Nearly all of mine are named in Latin, translated from words that relate to the dragon. Guarra = war (because of the 'armour like scales) Cereus Clavum = white stripe Urbanarum = paper There are a few exceptions - names like Cadifor and Equinus Thunderhead. Zumoa is simply the code of one of my dragons. Then there are just a few name from a story I'm writing. The clan itself is called the Herachus Clan, the name of a major clan in my story, and Runath and Kyzaro are also names from that story. Posted November 29, 2012 i like themes based on the breed. as in, all dragons of _____ breed are named similarly. though i havent done much on my scroll to support that lol. i name after the parents/code a lot. i also kinda like alliterations though i havent done much to support that either. so other than that i just name the dragon with whatever sequence of sounds i think of and add my surname Share this post Link to post
Posted November 29, 2012 (edited) I like when dragon names follow a particular pattern. I name my dragons after plants, each breed is named after a different genus. An example: http://dragcave.net/lineage/PRqq5 <Scientific/latin name> - <cultivar name in some cases> <lineage type; exception: unbreedables> Hatchlings follow a bit different pattern: http://dragcave.net/lineage/LkcQW <genus name> <HATCHIE> <gender; exception: unbreedables and ungendered hatchlings> There are also a few very special dragons dedicated to someone - they follow a different pattern. http://dragcave.net/lineage/c73tU <prefix> <actual name> <suffix> Sometimes the names lack spaces when they're too long. Or there is one space more. So, if you've got a such named dragon in a lineage, it's almost sure it's mine. Edited November 29, 2012 by Light Concorde Share this post Link to post
Posted November 29, 2012 I voted "all of them". I also like findig lineages where the names make up whole sentences. Personally I mostly use song titles, names based on the code or the parents. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 29, 2012 (edited) I name most of my CBs after their code. Most of my bred dragons after their parents. Almost all my dragons have the suffix li-sa (for lilysally - me and my firstever dog). Some dragons get special names for their lineages. You can see my kind of naming here: http://dragcave.net/lineage/cLKoP http://dragcave.net/lineage/FWbP http://dragcave.net/lineage/Pb8SG It's a pity when dragon's parents lose their names (like the Gold's parents), or have them changed... I usually let their offspring keep the names I gave them first. And I love this example of course. http://dragcave.net/lineage/ibCbu Edited November 29, 2012 by lilysally Share this post Link to post
Posted November 29, 2012 I name everything in Latin… Although it has the disadvantage that when I don't have a dictionary at hand or am uninspired, I get a lot of unnamed dragons. Sooner or later I have to go through and fix that… Share this post Link to post
Posted November 29, 2012 I like Jem names. Like Diamond, Ruby, Silver ect. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 11, 2013 (edited) Honestly, I don't know what my naming style is. Here are some samples of names I used: "Exotic Winter", "Ira The Coastal", "Lime Nova", "Sir Allure", "Spiritual Endeavor", "Jeana Yeltor", "Akara The Frozen", and "Reflective Lucidity" (my precious). "Hyphero" is special however. It's used as my internet pseudonym since this site. (also my first dragon ever.) Edited November 11, 2013 by James1011 Share this post Link to post
Posted November 11, 2013 Names that are funny, unique, or descriptive. I started with unique then switched to descriptive, and now I'm using funnier name. Some include: Drop 'Em Like Liquid, Mint-iscule, and Lilith The FireHawk. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 11, 2013 I like giving them names that refer to things, like songs, book, films or TV Programs, or just giving them random ones based on what I'm thinking. Share this post Link to post
