(Gah, sorry, I was posting at midnight, let me get rid of that and respond to you properly. xd.png  I was sleepy, plus it was my birthday yesterday. Sorries, fangirl, my mistake. smile.gif )

Happy birthday smile.gif

Draugr bashed the nocturne's head against the ground once and dived at the fallen egg. Mhera snarled at him from where she and the shield were wrestling and trying to chew the others throat out.

"Be careful with that, you fool! If master Arikade doesn't flay you, I will!"

She shrieked as the shield landed a ferocious bite on the junction of her neck and right shoulder. She tried to put weight on her right leg and found it impossible. She bared her teeth at it and backed off a step, meaning to catch it across the face with the cross at the end of her tail. The shield landed a powerful backhand under her ribs that sent her sprawling.

Draugr's eyes widened at the scene. Arikade really would flay him if he returned to the volcano alone. He sank his fangs into the egg and didn't bother to check the result.

The shield raised its arm over Mhera, possibly to deal a fatal blow. She snarled and spat at it defiantly. Draugr darted under the shield and pitched it backward, away from them. He then handed the egg off to Mhera, worked her onto his back and launched himself into the air.

Amacules was still on her way back to the main kingdom and malifica's physcic senses sensed another dragon coming, but unknown. She gave the message to Amacules and the magi dragon turned around to see a dragon from Rakayah's clan. From the look of the dragon something was off, and already they were needed.

"you've come here to ask for our help because your clan is being attacked by another clan" malifica quickly said, yet again, the mind read. Amacules narrowed her eyes and looked at malifica. Then raised her hand at nub unique and the sun song.

"fly back as fast as you can nubunium, get our wyvern soldiers, including starlight from the intelligence, and esspecially adulfi. Prepare the guards incase of of an attack on the kingdom, then come back" Amacules explained, "we will keep them back for as long as we can."

Nubunium obeyed and flew faster than he ever had in his life, the sun song stayed.

"lead us" we're the final words from Amacules

Storm lord flew east of the camp. haveing so much ground to cover and so littel time to do it they all had to fly fast but carfull, that is all exept Kegans sun. Truthfully he was quite enjoying himself laying on the back of Black lotus and eating scraps from large meals, looking down and teasing the other dragons, and even jumping and playing on the larger dragons backs. And much to his delight Kaylyn didn't stop him. She was to busy trying to derect Storm lord through the night(you try flying in pich black darkness, not seeing where you are going)

"Hey, Clay, where are we going?"

"I can see the mountains srait ahead and beond that a can see nothing"

" Ok what about to the north? we need to find Amacules's territory"

"why?"

" Because i said so"

"Really you should tell me"

"say that again."

" you heard me once and im not gonna say it again! you know that the vampiers have been comeing way to much and you cant hold them back!"

A guardian dragon standing by saw kegans sun fly in through the open window.

"lord Amacules is currently not here" the guardian said, "just received word that she's helping another clan within our territory."

The guardian waited for a response then continued "I could send a message to her if you tell me what's up"

(thanks fangirl. ^^)

Rakayah was'nt sure what had happened as they fled the ridgeline, followed by Madamblue and Reefninja, tearing away from the fray; Emeraldleap was wriggling around in the warlords lap, and she looked down at the agitated dinosaur.

"Blossomdear is on her way to find Amacules," Reefninja reported, "If they know if we have four eggs, will they stop?"

"There's only three!" Emeraldleap shrieked in alarm, climping up onto Rakayah's shoulder; the warlord looked down, counting the eggs.

"Oh my ancestors," She whispered, "It must have dropped."

Frostsheild looked back, slamming into a halt, but was'nt sure how to get back to the offending dragons.

"Blossomdear, come back as soon as you can." he murmured, turning back and heading onward.

"And please bring back help."

Draugr carried Mhera into Arikade's throne room. The man glanced from his second-in-command to the wounded female and narrowed his eyes in annoyance at the former.

"Your spoils had best be worth this casualty" he warned them. Mhera handed off the bitten egg to Draugr, who then rolled it over the floor to Arikade. He caught it lightly under the sole of his boot and picked it up for inspection. The colors were already changing to the desired vampiric ones.

Better than nothing he man grudgingly allowed. "How badly are you hurt?" he asked Mhera.

"I'll live" she grumbled testily. Arikade nodded.

"Take yourself to the medical ward" he ordered. "Draugr, bring this to the hatchery."

Mhera wriggled off of Draugr's back and limped out of the room in silence. Draugr took the egg in question and was all but out the door when Arikade stopped him:

"Rakayah's territory is thus unoccupied, yes?" he asked with a hopeful glint in his black eyes.

"Rakayah has no territory" Draugr answered, "Hers is a merchant clan, nomadic."

"As you were, then" Arikade dismissed him with a wave of his hand. When he could no longer hear the echoes of the dragon's footsteps, he punched a frustrated hole in the rock wall.

As soon as the ridge where the incident had happened was far from sight, from both dragon and human, the sky was lightening, and dawn crested the mountain's edge.

Frostsheild slowed the clan's flee, and let Madamblue run on ahead while she could.

Morning was well upon them when they found MadamBlue in dorment form, some hours later.

"This vampire problem is real." Reefninja commented finally, as the clan settled.

Frostsheild nodded disgustedly, "Its unclean and dishonoring." He muttered.

Reefninja's neck froll was torn, and Frostsheild had a scratch on his tail, from fleeing with his back to the fray that had occured.

EmeraldLeap scrabbled off of Rakayah's lap and started pacing, mumbling what could have been done to save the egg; Blossomdear was a speck in the sky, returning with no companions.

"She could'nt find them." Reefninja guessed, "Poor thing."

Rakayah sighed, rubbing her face, "I wonder how my half-sister is doing." She wondered, "And what her clan is doing."

"I truely hope their faring well." Frostsheild admitted, looking at his warlord.

"Being hunted, and having rescued, innocent eggs captured for who knows what, is putting an aweful lot of stress on us as a clan."

Reefninja nodded at her mate in agreement, sighing deeply.

"We must protect these three eggs left." She vowed solumnly; the dragons in the clan nodded.

Rakayah bit her lower lip, wondering if swords costed much. "I wish my brother was still with us." Rakayah reminiced.

"Nimnaro?" Frostsheild remarked dryly, "How so? He was no born warrior."

"Yes," Rakayah agreed, sitting down on the cold, hard stone, "But he was sneaky, and could gather information and spead it quickly, like a colony of gossiping rats."

Reefninja chuckled, "The boy was certainly a character."

The dorsal dragon stretched, reaching up to knaw on her wing tip.

Frostsheild snorted, "Nimnaro was little more then a nusance who bothered to many people." He grumbled, looking away to stare at the country side.

The vista that could be seen from the spine of the mountain was breathtaking, and Rakayah absent mindedly promised that when all was well again, she would come back here to trade.

"So what is the plan?" Emeraldleap asked, curling her little body around the remaining eggs.

Rakayah looked at the den-mother and healer, carressing her triangular head, "We will start moving by mid-day, and leave Reefninja with Madamblue." The warlord said softly, "And then wait for them when dusk falls. In the meantime, we will try to travel as far as we can."

Emeraldleap nodded, as if agreeing, and turned to tend to the eggs.

Rakayah drew in a deep breath, and let it out in a blow.

Wrath of God produced a nebula egg. "Good" Khalon said hashly. "We need to go to the volcanic region. I hear there are jobs for us." she said as a slight smile spread across her face. She mounted Starhunter and he rose up into the air. They started across the forest making the long journey to the volcanic region.

The spy for the clan had returned. "Titus! Thunderbolt!" he said bowing gracefully. "Their has been a raid!" Titus didn't care, as long as it wasn't his clan. Thunderbolt grew worried. "If they can raid surrounding clans, they'll soon be near us. We'll have to prepare the guards.". Titus nodded, and the two headed toward the barracks.

Two nights after the attack on Rakayah's clan, Arikade mobilizes his admittedly meager forces.

Scouts have reported the location of a spitfire clan near the coastline of the patch of desert closest the volcanic islands. Hardly ideal, all involved agree, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Besides, there are cave systems there that can be used.

~

The clan is easy to find; The glass reflects the moonlight like a cluster of search beacons. Most of the dragons are sleeping alone in their little caves, but here and there there are a pair of mates or some hatchlings sleeping in groups. The real treasure, though, is the one female curled around at least a dozen eggs.

Arikade dismounts Draugr and draws his sword. The nineteen other vampires with them descend on the clan.

Within seconds, all hell has broken loose. Vamps and spitfires alike gnash chunks out of each other. Some try to heard the wingless hatchlings away from the fighting. Most who do are cut down.

The most popular target is the male crouched over the pile of eggs. He's so busy protecting the eggs and himself that he doesn't notice Draugr sneak behind him.

Until the vampire has his jaws around the base of his skull, that is.

When the guard is dead, the surrounding vampires take the eggs. The remaining five adult spitfires turn to fly for their lives. They are careful to keep the winged hatchlings in the center of their flock. The hatchlings that can't fly are carried in their talons.

With a satisfied smile, Arikade turns to inspect the results of the battle: None of his vampires are unscathed, but their injuries are minor at the worst. Some of them are feeding on the dead spitfires. It helps their healing along considerably.

Arikade spends a few minutes sending the enemies that look like they can pull through into catatonia. It's a bit of a draw on his energy, but it's worth it. Fertile males and females ensure more eggs for his army.

Speaking of which, the eggs all seem to have survived the transformation. And Arikade can clearly see a system of caves off in the near distance. He raises his arm and points toward them.

"We have found our new base!" he declares.

All according to plan.

High in the mountains Orion sat in the castle monitoring progress on supply gathering. Up in the alpine region the castle tended to be safer than many others but this also meant communication was also a little harder. For years they had been stockpiling tools, food, weapons, and other necessities. Everyone had been working hard for weeks a few months on end now with few breaks and it was starting to wear on everyone, even Orion and Alsia, his second hand. They had accomplished so much more than Orion thought was possible in a short span of time and he knew they deserved a reward. He pushed the desk in front of his beautifully decorated throne aside and stood up. He said in a loud but relieved and happy voice, the first time in months. "I say it's about time we had a holiday!". The countless dragons going about their buisness in front of him all stopped and stared in silence for a moment, then instantly the crowd burst into cheers in unison. A gentle smile grew on Orion's face, then he walked proudly outside onto the grand balcony with Alsia following, she was one of few whom, including Orion, could change breeds and even change between human and dragon form. Orion stood on the high ledge gazing at the evening starts his feet right on the end. "Alsia, you up for a race?" He said with a smug grin. "You know it" she responded. Orion scooted his feet and fell. As the ground was rushing to meet him he changed into the form of a Gray Dragon and swooped away from the grass below him and flew at tremendous speed with Alsia just behind him. They raced between mountain peeks and over valleys beholding the beautiful sight that was their home before settling to rest on a big ledge, where both of them turned into human form. "You know I'll beat you next time" laughed Orion. "When trees talk" she said back to him. Orion laid out on his back to relax. "I don't know, I think I just heard that oak whisper to me" he said mockingly as she joined him. Orion spoke up "We have all been working so hard lately, a holiday was needed." Alsia nodded, her long red hair gently trying to grab the passing breeze. "So when should we tell them?" "Tell them what?" Alsia looked at him curiously. "About us" He said while gazing into her brilliant blue eyes. She hummed for a moment and told him "how about tonight". "Tonight it is then" Orion whispered before leaning over to kiss her on the cheek. "And we should get back to the castle before nightfall." "Agreed". Both of them turned into their dragon forms and began to fly back to the castle. Soon they both made it back and noticed that they had perhaps another hour or two before the night would begin. "Let's take a nap, we still have plenty of time and after this afternoon's work, I was ready to sleep on the floor." Orion suggested. Alsia yawned and nodded in agreement and followed him into their room. Alsia climbed into her side and Orion his. They napped quietly while the rest of the castle was full of laughter and cheer. Unforunately things may not always be like this, Orion sensed something bad would happen before too long, that they should be ready for anything. But for now everyone relaxed and enjoyed the night, many partied and talked, some even sang, some wrestled and some slept. In his heart Orion had a feeling that this was only the quiet before a storm.

Rakayah rode on the back of Frostsheild, her guardian dragon second in command, with the healer Canopy Dragon nestled in the warlady's lap, with Blossomdear the flamingo dragon, following behind them. Reefninja, the dorsal dragon and Frostsheild's mate, remained behind with the Nocturne dragon Madamblue, the two most battle skilled dragons, who were unable to travel, due to the fact that Madamblue would periodicly change to an imobile state.

For the time being, though, the three members of the clan and their leader progressed through the territory that Amacules and her clan owned, heading up the barely visable trail that was marred through the stone mountainside; the cool, thin air and the distant, shrill calls of eagles were peaceful, well, no, it was normal. The uncharted wild, no matter who's terrritory it fell under, will always be a place of serenity, even if families fall victom of death; hunters must eat, and so prey must depart from family, and with out knowing, the balance between nature remains.

Everything a creature needs to survive is there, that is how the ancestors made it, and with that logic said, what else was there to discuss?

Rakayah and the clan settled down about ten miles away from the spot where they had left Madamblue and Reefninja, and began to make camp. It was a little after sunhigh when they were settled, ready to wait for the rest of the clan to return.

"The Magi Egg, Waterhorse Egg, and the Sunstone egg are showing signs of cracking," Blossomdear speculated, watching the eggs from the overhang of her wing; the flamingo's tail curled around them, and the Waterhorse egg wriggled a little.

The Magi egg was a brilliant golden amber, and was thin and oblong; the waterhorse egg was clear and shaped like a pinecone sized pearl. The Sunstone egg was the largest, the size of a Rugby ball and the shape of an ostridge egg; it's color was a liquified sunshine color, and sparkled in the light.

"The ochre egg was like a hens egg, but bigger." Emeraldleap reminiced, "And smelled a little like mustard."

Rakayah smiled, running a hand down the dragon's neck.

The following night, Madamblue and Reefninja returned, and the clan set off again on their quest to find the territory of Rakayah's sister, and her clan of dragons. THey traversed nearly 20 miles more, walking through a consistent, gentle cascade of snow fall, curtains of white that obscured vision of dragon and human alike. Dawn probably crested the skyline on the trek, but Madamblue had not been exposed to sunlight, and curiously, could carry on the following morning. The offwhite, grayish illumination provided a blurry way to see the path the clan was following, but they reached with in sight of the end of Amacules' Kingdom by dusk.

"I'm so tired." Blossomdear huffed, "Can't we just, I dunno, hang out here for a sec or two, so I can relax my legs?" She flopped down, not waiting for an answer; Reefninja chuckled. "It looks like we have no choice."

The clan settled again, stretching aching wings and legs, and digging into the packs and satchels for food.

"Bless the ancestors!" Emeraldleap squaled, "The Sunstone egg is hatching!" Madamblue and Rakayah hurried over, and Reefninja and Frostsheild glanced up from their meal of rabit and dandilion greens.

The shell of the egg split, and a tiny nose peered out, sticky and moist; Emeraldleap lowered her nose to the little fissure, and the tiny baby with in made a quiet, happy noise.

"It's a little male." Emeraldleap murmured delightedly. Madamblue bent down to sniff the egg, "I'll train the little twerp to be a battle trained warrior." She vowed, a glint of amusement in her eye. "Right, twerp? You're gonna be a killer!"

The thing inside the egg retreated from the crack in the egg, and Emeraldleap batted Madamblue's nose playfully, "You scared my crimson little jem!" She accused. Rakayah laughed, getting down on her knees to hold the egg. The warlady could feel the warm little body wriggling around inside, uncertain of coming out of it's shell. Rakayah smiled down at the egg, wondering if it's aprehansion was wise.

Khalon saw the battle between the spitfires and vampires as she and her clan drew steadily nearer. "Hmmm" Starhunter said "He seems...." Khalon interrupted and threw a knife before Arikade's foot with a note attached. Then directed her clan away from the vampires. "Why did you do that?" asked Wrath as the flew off. "You will find out" replied Khalon.

Arikade pried the letter off the dagger and flicked it open. "Khalon" he muttered. He glowered off in the direction it had come from and motioned for Draugr to come forward.

"Khalon's clan is somewhere in the area" he told him, "Take Mhera and Tulahy and find her."
