Games to recommend

Not sure if this is popular, so maybe Jak and Daxter 2 the Precursor Legacy. I've played it and I still find it fun when I'm bored.

I just got the thee pack of the original games for PS3, gotta say, Jak and Daxter is a trio of fail. There is little to no plot. I couldn't finish a single one. Though if you like Grand Theft Auto with fuzzy creatures, the second one could be fun The only time I had fun playing was when I went crazy and stole ships, shot cops, and shoved people off piers and into the water.

 

For my recommendation: Folklore for PS3. I had never heard of it, picked it up at Game Stop because I liked the cover. You get to play two characters as they move simultaneously through the same plot. They have the power to absorb the spirits of the local creatures and fight with them. The game uses the Playstation's motion controls really well.

I have to scream my objections at you there. I love the Jak and Daxter series. Naughty Dog is amazing at making frustrating games that make me want to beat them even though I'm screaming at the game. But really I think they're a lot of fun, enough to keep me going even during the somewhat frustrating parts.

 

There's plenty of plot. Sadly it really only gets built up in the 2nd and 3rd games, but it's still there even in the first one.

I'm going to recommend two series...oh well.

 

 

I'd recommend the Breath of Fire series! There are currently 5 games in the series, across several different consoles.. It's a great RPG series and it involves a guy who turns into a dragon omgggg. The 2nd game was the first one I played, but the 3rd is my favorite so far. I haven't gotten around to playing the 5th game, though I've had it for years!

 

-The first game is on SNES and GBA. You can probably find an emulator for the computer if you don't have something to play those games.

-The second is on SNES and GBA as well, but it is also available on the Wii Shop Channel. You can probably also find an emulator for it.

-The third is on Playstation. I think there's a Playstation emulator but I'm not certain.

-The fourth is on Playstation and is also available on the Playstation Network for those that have a PS3/4. If there's a Playstation emulator I'm sure you can find one for it.

-The fifth, also known as Dragon Quarter rather than being numbered, is on Playstation 2. Not sure where to find it.

Another series I would HIGHLY recommend, along with KageSora is the 'Tales of' series. These are a multitude of games with little-to-no relation except certain monsters/spells/terminology and sometimes cameos, in a similar manner to the Final Fantasy of Dragon Quest series. My favorite of the bunch is Tales of the Abyss, though I really like Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Legendia as well. I've just started Tales of Vesperia.

 

These games can be QUITE hard to find sometimes, however, as well as expensive due to their rarity. They are across several different consoles, so you're bound to find at least one you're able to play. Probably the easiest ones to find, currently, are Tales of Graces F, Tales of Xillia, and Tales of the Abyss (SPECIFICALLY for the 3DS, not the original PS2 version!) as they are all much newer. Graces F and Xillia are both on the PS3. Another one you may find more easily is the sequel to Tales of Symphonia, "Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World". It is somewhat-new and on the Wii (the original Symphonia was on the GameCube).

 

Here is a list of ALL of the "Tales of" games for those interested. There are several, including a handful of spin-offs/non-canon games and Japan-only games.

Monster Hunter Tri, may seem like a childish game at first but as you get into it the gameplay and combat is amazing, (Logged around 500 hours into it, and yes I do have a life!)

The third is my favorite too. I thought the 5th was garbage.

Definitely the Last of Us. Amazing game.

 

I just finished for the fourth time, PKMN Mystery Dungeon, Explorers of Time, and I cannot get over how much it really hit me. It seems pretty childish, but the ending really gives you an emotional slap in the face. Sadly I cried about every time .. but I still recommend it greatly.

Rune Factory 4 for the 3DS. I honestly can't believe more people don't play this RPG, and I never see anyone talking about it. It only recently got released in the United States (even though it released over a year ago in Japan) due to translation and dubbing it in English. The story is great, and there are a lot of witty lines. I usually don't like JRPGs, but I am loving this one.

Rune Factory 4 makes me foam at the mouth and cry at the same time. For some reason, the universe does NOT want me to have this game. I've been a Rune Factory fan for three or four years. I pre-ordered 4 two months in advance, only for Pokemon to be released at the same time so all my money went to buying that. Then I got fired and couldn't get the funds to buy this game. I've been desperately dodging spoilers left and right so I can play the new game the way I want to play it- blind. Right when I scratched up enough money to buy the game, my 3DS broke. Here's fingers crossed for Christmas!

 

But anyway, I recommend this game and all in its series except maybe the first. If you're going to play them all though, play them chronologically. 1, 2, 3 then 4. They improve with every generation and it's hard to go back a generation once you get used to the new one. RF 1 was almost impossible to play going backwards from RF 2.

 

Also, I'm surprised how a lot of my Pokemon friends totally skipped Black and White. It's worth a play, even if a lot of the Pokemon designs are (t)rubbish, you get attached to them like you would any other Pokemon. Its story is too amazing to pass up on, and it dares to ask something you would think Nintendo and Gamefreak would avoid at all costs pertaining to Pokemon, "is it right to capture them?" Also N.

World of tanks "For when blowing stuff up in a tank is needed"

Prison Architect "Because prison and manual labor adds to lots of money"

Papers, Please "Fun for a small game. Glory to Arstotzka"

War Thunder "Because planes and soon to be tanks"

Bastion "Great short single player game with a nice set of background music"

Planetside 2 "For the mass player mobs that are coordinated with lots of guns"

 

That's all I can come up with right now, and half of these games are F2P

Games I recommend:

 

Patapon: Rhythm game in which you control an army of eyeball creatures, and be their god as you lead them to victory against enemy tribes, giant bosses, and through all different kinds of places, from castles to jungles to deserts. 2 and 3 also adds multiplayer. For PSP and I think vita as well.

 

Gurumin: Action and Adventure game that has you control a girl who was forced to live at hee grandparents' place, and there are no kids to play with!

....Or so it seems at first. This game doesn't try to be anything it isn't, and despite the cutesy graphics and everything, it has a nicely done storyline along with one heck of a bonus superboss.

Also, new game+, but no co-op. Has PSP and PC versions.

 

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together: Yeah, when I first heard the title, I thought it was weird too. A SRPG that plays like Fire Emblem or FFT that has the main character part of a oppressed minority on the isles of Valeria. The main thing is qbout this game is that it has a lot of content, including 40 playable ((mostly)) unique characters mostly found in branching story paths. Or at least in the remake. Original has a few less characters and no "new game+ in the form of time travel"((it makes sense in context)), as well as less... Eloquent vocabulary. PSP.

I doubt you'd find a physical copy any more, but Amazing Island for the Gamecube was something of a hidden gem. Basically it was a combination of Mario Party and Pokemon, only you made the pokemon and you could do things that would make evolution cry.

 

Put eyes on the knees, you can do that.

Make the monster plaid and turn it into '1950's dad', you can do that.

Put random crap on their tail, sure why not.

 

Of course, you could always just emulate it, not that I'm encouraging it or anything.

 

I also recommend De Blob 1 and 2 for the Wii. Its a fun little platformer where you control a blob of paint and try to bring colour back to a grey city.

There's a game called 'Ivy the Kiwi?' for Wii and DS. The DS one has better 'controls', in my opinion. Instead of me hopelessly explaining it, you should probably watch some gameplay of it on YouTube, or something. I feel like the only person here to have played that game...

 

I don't know how known this is, but SPORE Creatures for the DS. It's a spin-off of SPORE, and is quite an awesome game. ^-^ It's a little more limited with the creature making stuff, but is still great.

 

I would've recommended Okami, but too many people have done that already.

 

I don't really know how known these games are, but Pokemon Colosseum and : Gale of Darkness for the GameCube. Pretty awesome games, in my opinion.

 

Conker's Bad Fur Day, for the N64. Beware, though. It has an M rating. It's also pretty hard to find and very expensive. You can emulate it, though, I guess. It is one of the best N64 games, in my opinion. I really recommend this. ^-^

Add me as a screeching recommendation for Prison Architect. Picked it up during the Steam sale (and I wouldn't recommend paying full price for it), and I have spent an obnoxious amount of time in it already. Very addictive, even without achievements. Wish the grants would scale with the prison better, though. I keep running out of money for additions.

Oh my gosh. I have many.

 

First up is Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, an oldish DS game made by the same guys as Ace Attorney and set in the same universe (no crossover characters or anything but yeah). You play as Sissel, a man with ridiculous hair and sunglasses who has recently died and needs to figure out who he is and who killed him. He realizes that everything is way more complicated than he initially thought and teams up with an eccentric bunch of people in an attempt to get to the bottom of everything. Plays like a cross between a puzzle game, an adventure game, and a visual novel; buttery-smooth animation and unique character designs; turns into a pile of plot twists halfway through and every single one of them works beautifully. (Also there's a dog, his name's Missile, and he is a top pomeranian.)

 

Also I've recently gotten into an online game called Improbable Island. It's, uh...let's start off by saying it's kinda NSFW. It's entirely text-based and it's not porn or anything, but at the beginning you wake up naked in a jungle and everyone finds this either boring or hilarious, and you can butcher/eat the corpse of anything you kill, including Your Own Tongue and the Pope. There's a lot of coarse humour is what I'm saying I guess. Half the time it's screamingly funny(You have encountered Flock of Fanboys which lunges at you with Poorly-Written Fanfic!) and the other half it's unexpectedly deep. There's a hugely complex backstory, and most of the plots actually deal with some heavy stuff like racism, human nature, and how to be a decent person. Also the production team is super nice, there's a lot of representation in-game and you get free stuff if you help them cure cancer with your computer's unused cycles. Seriously, as long as the humour doesn't bother you, definitely check it out.

 

Smaller reccommendations: Fez and Little Inferno from the Humble Bundle (a while ago at least), yeah. Fez is a cute game in which you have third-dimension powers in a 2D world (the developer's kind of ornery though and I'm not sure he's the kind of guy I'd support with my money); Little Inferno is initially a spooky and philosophical-ish game that's kind of like one of those iDevice time wasters, but then...well, I won't spoil it.

Osu! totally. It's like tap tap, but harder and way more interesting. For those of you that like tap tap and rhythm games, this is definitely a game you should try.

You can play it on the computer or an iPad/iPhone.

Cosmology of Kyoto: gorgeous, surreal game. Good to play at night by yourself. Not so much for the scare factor, but because it's a game you want to get immersed in and think about.

 

Among the Sleep: Great, short horror game. Basically scarier than Amnesia: The Dark Descent, IMO.

Going to add 'Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons' to the list for the PS3. Not as long or as complicated as many games, but it's still an amazing game.
