Theatre/Drama

Recommended Posts

I've been doing theatre for about three years now. I have been on crew twice, and in the cast once. I absolutely love it, and have tons of fun doing it.

Have you ever acted? Do you want to act? What are some of your favorite plays?

My favorite plays are a Very Potter Musical and a Very Potter Sequal.

I love Shakespeare plays because of the fact that you can learn old English with it smile.gif

I love acting too happy.gif I wouldn't say I'm destined to be one but I certainly enjoy it and would like to do more of it tongue.gif

I've done a bit of community theater. The last thing I was in was Jekyll & Hyde, but I've also been in The King & I, Annie, and even done a little Shakespeare. My favorite was when I was a kid and got to play Gladys on The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. "Shazam! Out of the black night, with horrible vengeance, the Mighty Marvo...!"

I'm not much of a theatre person, though I do love musicals. My favourites are (I'm going to roughly translate from Czech) "Pied Piper" and "The Golden Dragon's Secret", written by Daniel Landa, a Czech singer. I'm going to see his newest one in October, can't wait. biggrin.gif *trails off*

Acting? I could do a decent bush or a rock, but that's pretty much the extent of my acting skills. xd.png

I'm really into theatre. I'd have to say my favorite show that I've seen so far is Billy Elliot, which my grandma took me to see last year when it was on tour at the Kennedy Center (I live near DC). I do shows a lot as a kid, and frequently get leads happy.gif It's really fun. I also do dance now, as I'll need it more and more as I get older. I'm currently in tap 4 (which is impressive because I started last year) and jazz 2. I also sing.

I've done theatre/drama a few times, but I always have a hard time starting during try-outs so have just had small parts when I actually wanted big parts. Still fun, though.

Also did a few plays through girl scouts in which I usually got big parts because I was one of the only people who would actually memorize her lines. I recently got to re-watch one of these. It's so funny watching us. x3

And my sister wants to be an actress, so she participates in theatre. She had her first performance last year and it was awesome! I am so proud and can't wait to see what else she'll do. The piece she did was a musical with plenty of dancing and thanks to her dancing background, she got to do some neat tricks. I was really impressed with what she did. <3

Bigger things I've seen:

Cats

Stomp

Blue Man Group

Nutcracker

All of them were awesome and so fun!

The one thing on my list would be Avenue Q, but I don't know that I'll ever get a chance to watch it live.

I love theather, but it doesn't love me (ie: I'm not too great at it) I've been in one play, and did something backstage for 2 plays and two musicals.

I used to do quite a bit of acting a few years back in school, and I'm hoping to get back into it. I used to get whatever part I wanted and was was old enough to audition for, and people told me I did it well. It wasn't ever a massive production, but we'd get a good couple hundred in the auditorium each night we did it (was a fairly small school and room, so filled it completely). I've done a few speeches recently, which to my great surprise, went over extremely well (I'm one of the last people you'd probably expect to be any good at it). Hopefully I can still translate that back to theatre!

Someone at my school has finally managed to get a drama club started. However, I'm probably one of the one's with the most experience in it, and so far its seeming like they're going to be looking to me for a lot of things concerning the play... That both terrifies me and makes me extremely happy. (if anyone has any tips/ideas as to how to direct a smallish play, they should PM me)

As far as favorite plays, it would have to be Phantom of the Opera hands down. Just took a trip and got to see it in Vegas, and it was amazing. Next to that, I would have to say Sound of Music (partly because that was one of the plays I've been in). There are quite a few musicals/plays that I'd like to see and haven't though.

I had forgotten about that part! =o

I mostly remember having to pass the toilet paper on, because it got adrenaline pumping. =p

I've always loved the drumming on paint part. o3o

Not a great theatre fan, but I do appreciate it as a form of art. I admire theatre actors because acting on stage is much more difficult than in front of the camera - no room for mistakes.

Sadly little people visit the theatre in my country - that's why our most popular theatre offers January and February tickets at the price of between two and four packs of chewing gums, which is such a shame to see. sad.gif

Aside from school plays back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, the vast majority of my personal acting experience has been a form of LARPing at cons. Although I did impress a friend with my ability to pull off "heartbroken girl left at the altar" at one con. My character's wedding was supposed to have been the main event of the thing, only her betrothed's player had a family emergency and didn't end up making the con. This being before cell phones were common (yes, I'm old!), no one knew what happened until after the con was over, so we had to make up something on the spot.

My daughter spent a few years with Andy's Summer Playhouse ( http://www.andyssummerplayhouse.org/ ) and I only wish we could find something similar where we're living now.

As far as what I've seen live onstage, aside from my daughter's performances...

Plays: A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Taming of the Shrew, Romeo and Juliet.

Musicals: Annie, West Side Story, Grease, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Phantom of the Opera.

Opera/Operetta: Tosca, Norma, La Traviata, Die Fledermaus, Pirates of Penzance.

Ballet/Dance: The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Riverdance.
