Remake the movie Eragon?

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I am a huge fan of the Inheritance Cycle books. However, the movie Eragon, in my opinion, was truely aweful. It seriously make me want to remake Eragon and then make movies for the rest of the books the right way. I know it is an extremely ambitious thing to do, but someday (not anytime really soon of course) I'd like to make it happen.

So what do you all think? Was the movie bad enough for it to be remade? What would you change about it? Let me know below. smile.gif

Things I would change/remove/add:

-Ayra would have balck hair and actually be an elf

-Saphira's egg would actually look like an egg.

-Saphira would have membranous wings and no frill.

-Saphira would not fly into the air and magically mature.

-The Ra'zac would be completely redone to compliment their book form

-Orik, Jeod, and Aijhad would be present

-Roran, Katrina, and Horst would be present

-The Rose would be broken by Saphira with Ayra on her back

-Eragon and Durza would fight on foot as in the book

-Saphira would not almost die

-Ayra would be unconscious after rescuing until arriving at the Varden

-Galbatorix would not make so many appearences

-Galbatorix's face would not be shown until Inheritence where he is seen for the first and only time in the books

-Galbatorix would not refere to Saphira's egg as a "stone" as he knows it is an egg

-Saphira would move and fly like a true dragon. She would not launch herself 200 fett into the air with one beat of her wings

-Eragon would have ended up being captured at Gil'ead

-Angela would be there and give Eragon his furture reading (Solembum would be there too)

-Eragon would have tried to sell Saphira's egg to Sloan

-There would be scenes of Eragon visiting Saphira as she grew, and a scene of him naming her

-Eragon would feed Saphira when she first hatched, instead of her killing the rat

-Saphira would hatch in Eragon's room

-Eragon would talk with Brom about the Riders, etc. at his house for tea

- Eragon would bless (curse) the baby

-Farthen Dur would look as it was described in the book

I agree with you there, one day I hope they remake Guardians of Ga'Hoole, it was truly awful. I found over 50 things wrong with the movie

I would like to see a new version, but at the same time I question whether it should be redone so (relatively) soon. All the recent rehashes of the same storylines (Spider-Man, Hulk, Batman) as opposed to all-new movies is kind of annoying... as much as I'd like to see some good dragony action, I'm not sure I want it as Eragon redone, at least not yet.

The movie wasn't completely awful, but it wasn't great, either. The two biggest things that bothered me were 1) Saphira's insta-grow scene and 2) the really weird look of the Ra'zac.

I didn't like the books, but the Eragon movie was even worse. It was so bad, in fact, that I think the author stated that he was going to refuse any more movie offers he got for the series.

I don't think we'll see an Eragon remake any time soon. But you could get the same plot from watching Star Wars anyway, haha.

Well, I was thinking in 20 years or so. But I didn't want to look into it any further until I heard other people's opinion's. smile.gif

Yes, just watch Star Wars and Lord of the Rings and call it good.

In twenty years it's doubtful that anyone will even still remotely care about Eragon.

Wow, a lot of Eragon-hate on these forums O___o

It's not my favorite series, but I still thought it was fairly good.

Yeah, if you aren't a fan of the books there is no point in posting negative stuff. dry.gif

I liked the books and hated the movie. I'm glad they didn't attempt more. So no, I don't think they should try again(they should have gotten it right the first time). Personally I think the people who make the movies need to read the book first(I assume they don't since they got it so terribly wrong).

You asked for people's opinions. If a large amount of people aren't going to want to watch your movie, it wouldn't be profitable, and no one would support the costs of making it.

I think a lot of the issue is how to cram big books into two hour movies (look at what the LotR and HP people had to do, bless them X___x), but at times it certainly does look like they didn't read. If you're going to invest time into making a Ra'zac design, why not invest time making it right? If you can make a creepy bug thing, you can make a creepy bird thing. And the whole fancy clouds magical transformation scene could've been done much better as a series of different shots to show time passing.

(I apologize for fixating on the same two issues I first mentioned, but it's been a while since I've either watched the movie or read the book, so I only have strong memory of the parts that most irked me xd.png)

Although the Eragon movie was a mess, there is no point in rebooting the movie. You will never get it absolutely perfect enough to please all the fans. They'll shun it regardless, even for little things.

I don't really think the book series warrants a movie to begin with. Unless you're willing to go absolutely all out and have a massive budget (ex: Lord of the Rings), then it's really not worth it. The book series is one of those book series that's just better left as a book because a movie just wouldn't make sense.

Also, the age of popularity with Dragons in media has ended. Now it's all Vampires and Teenage Love Angst. :P

I'd contest that claim. Considering HTTYD's success and the fact that several sequels are planned, plus the fact that the Twilight movies are over/nearly over, I'd say dragons are doing better right now than they have in a while. ^^

This. No matter how hard one tries there will always be complainers. Take Legend of the Guardians for example. I understand that it may not be like the books, but take it as an individual work in it's own right, just using characters and ideas from the books. Seriously, things do not have to be a carbon copy, surely! The did have to fit three books into the movie anyway.

But yes, I'll agree Eragon was a downright shocker. I found little that even resembled the books aside from the occasional character and story points. If I hadn't known about the books beforehand though, I would have greatly enjoyed it as it would have seemed completely perfect.

I've read the first two books and liked them, I think they butchered the movie

The only way to progress to a movie adaptation of Eldest is to remake Eragon. The movie missed so many vital things from Eragon that I doubt its even remotely possible of making a second movie.

They didn't even have Dwarves? How can you go to the Boer Mountains where the Dwarves reside and not show any of them? The only thing I actually liked was the actor that played Brom. I think he did a decent job portraying Brom's character.

I understand that there is just too much information in the book to squeeze into a movie... but at least include the aspects required to progress to book two. I.e the Dwarven star (can't remember the name) that was broken during the fight. The Twins, Dwarves, the scar on Eragon's back from fighting Durza etc.

I enjoyed the book greatly. I felt the cinema stole my money after exciting the theatres. They could have warned me it was going to be bad >.>

Exactly.

Sorry, why watch a badly done mash of LotR and Star wars?

I liked how they completely ruined the scene where Saphira learned to breathe fire at just the right moment. It was one of my favorite parts in the book, in fact all the parts in the book that I liked were completely ruined. I kinda liked the first book, but I was on borderline hate with the second. I never finished the rest because of how things ended up. One thing I did like about the two is how Eragon, just when he thought he was pretty good at the things he was doing, was proven otherwise, yet he kept trying.

I did see the movie in theaters once and never again. I honestly don't think I'd watch a remake because I don't like the books that much. Also if the author of the books hated how the movie came out then he should have watched them like a hawk. You just don't sign the rights away and leave it at that because people will do whatever they want with those tights. take the first release of a studio Ghibli movie for example. The first release was completely butchered and the voice actors didn't know what they were doing. After that incident the studio decided no more of their movies were to be dubbed unless they had control over what happened to the movies. Disney stepped up to that and has released almost all of the company's movies. The ones that weren't released were ones that they requested edits of and Ghibli declined, so the movies were never released in English.

Honestly, I think there is just too much in the book to fit into a movie. The best thing to do if they were to make TV adaptations is to do something like legend of the seeker.

So 1 hour episodes each week of Eragon etc progressing. Minimum 4 seasons (1 per book). If done right it could turn out to be a brilliant TV series.

How to Train Your Dragon is a kid's film. Children's films tend to not follow the current pattern in media. Eragon would have to be in the Teen Demographic because it's too violent to be a kid's film.

I'm not just speaking of Twilight. How many Vampire Movies/Books are out right now? Just go to Walmart and look in their Teen book section. Every single one is Vampires. It's disturbing.

Although I agree with TotallyDrow. I think a TV series done like Legend of the Seeker would be great. Especially with a rise in Fantasy shows on TV.

Mythic Vision: The Making of Eragon is a little booklet of how the made the movie and why... (forgot why I had it but I think it came with the dvd) most of the actors actually read the books. I've found nowhere if the actual makers of the movie have or not.

It was actually a quite helpful book to understand why they made the movie the way they did and how.

I, for one, think they should remake it. I've been screaming that since I first saw the blasted movie. I liked (closer to loved) the series and I admit, it has some down-points all over. There's good spots, bad spots and ugly spots but it's still a good series.
