Posted November 12, 2014 Hey there! Long time someone posted ~ i thought of this project and wanted to do another sonnet lineage. Now i stumbled over a story i really like: Abelard & Heloise. so i tried to write one by myself :S I know its kinda off topic, but i don't know where else i could ask for help :/ My mother tounge is german so i don't really know if i do the right ryhmes or not so if someone could please read it and help me to make it sound right? (The last one is hard, because i have only 6 dragons at the end, so i decidet it doesn't nessesarily have to rhyme) once in twelfth century Paris Heloise, full of intelligence and wit searches for truth and all there is strives for knowledge with every bit And there proud Abelard exeptional philospher of his time can provide the education that she seeks to obtain Soon lost they are so entwined, unable to desist not only intellectually on a par by law the relationship must not exist. The power of their passion proves to be an intimacy hard to destroy through all time this true love lasts Abelard and Heloise If its an inapropriate request please tell me ^^° Thanks a lot!! Hey, sorry I didn't see this earlier... was busy working on the novel last month for NaNoWriMo. Anyway. Your poem isn't bad, especially since English isn't your native language, and as a lover of all things medieval, I like your tribute to Abelard and Heloise. But that said, your poem isn't even close to being a sonnet, particularly a Shakespearean sonnet. A sonnet consists of 14 lines of iambic pentameter (5 sets of 2 syllables with the stress on the second syllable; example: the DOG did SIT upON the DIRTy MAT), with a rhyme scheme of A-B-A-B C-D-C-D E-F-E-F G-G. (Rhyme scheme example: mat-say-cat-day bird-cow-herd-now hill-sun-thrill-fun shark-mark.) Sonnets are not easy to write, and I know, I've written a couple! One just to prove I could do it, and one for a Dead Poets Society fanfiction I wrote a few years ago. I would suggest sticking with Shakespeare's works for the purpose of this lineage since that was kind of the point of it all, but I absolutely encourage you to keep writing your own poetry as well. And whenever you get your poem for Abelard and Heloise done, I'd love to see it! Share this post Link to post
Posted February 15, 2015 Thank you for your very professional answer! I should've known that writing poetry isn't just trying to find matching words.. next time i'll clearly read myself into it before starting. So maybe i'd just stick with that as "some kind of poem" and leave it be, try another one right from the start. Anyway, youre right, this doesn't really belong here, i know that just tried to find someone who could tell me that this is not complete nonsense^^° Again, thank you for your help, i appreciate it much :3 Share this post Link to post
Posted April 10, 2015 Annnd... I went for a third sonnet, this time with glaucus drakes. Yes, there will be a fourth one eventually, with howler drakes, because drakes need attention too. (And if/when more drakes get released, more sonnets will ensue!) http://dragcave.net/lineage/WqYWj Sonnet XIV Not from the stars do I my judgement pluck; And yet methinks I have Astronomy, But not to tell of good or evil luck, Of plagues, of dearths, or seasons' quality; Nor can I fortune to brief minutes tell, Pointing to each his thunder, rain and wind, Or say with princes if it shall go well By oft predict that I in heaven find: But from thine eyes my knowledge I derive, And, constant stars, in them I read such art As truth and beauty shall together thrive, If from thyself, to store thou wouldst convert; Or else of thee this I prognosticate: Thy end is truth's and beauty's doom and date. All men make faults, and even I in this, Authorizing thy trespass with compare, Myself corrupting, salving thy amiss, Excusing thy sins more than thy sins are; For to thy sensual fault I bring in sense, Thy adverse party is thy advocate, And 'gainst myself a lawful plea commence: Such civil war is in my love and hate, That I an accessary needs must be, To that sweet thief which sourly robs from me. progress I'm still needing 3 CB females, but I'm ready to start the breeding phase afterwards. I have some eggs and hatchies waiting to gender so let's hope they're the ones I need! Edited May 17, 2015 by augur Share this post Link to post

Posted November 14, 2016 Next sonnet, Howler Drakes and Sonnet LX http://dragcave.net/lineage/0k86Q Sonnet LX Like as the waves make towards the pebbled shore, So do our minutes hasten to their end; Each changing place with that which goes before, In sequent toil all forwards do contend. Nativity, once in the main of light, Crawls to maturity, wherewith being crown'd, Crooked eclipses 'gainst his glory fight, And Time that gave doth now his gift confound. Time doth transfix the flourish set on youth And delves the parallels in beauty's brow, Feeds on the rarities of nature's truth, And nothing stands but for his scythe to mow: And yet to times in hope, my verse shall stand Praising thy worth, despite his cruel hand. Thence comes it that my name receives a brand, And almost thence my nature is subdued To what it works in, like the dyer's hand: Pity me, then, and wish I were renewed; Whilst, like a willing patient, I will drink Potions of eisel 'gainst my strong infection; No bitterness that I will bitter think, Nor double penance, to correct correction. Pity me then, dear friend, and I assure ye, Even that your pity is enough to cure me. Edited January 3, 2017 by Zerhai Share this post Link to post
Posted May 17, 2017 Sonnet 8 is done, with Tarantula Hawk Drakes! https://dragcave.net/lineage/d4BvH Sonnet VIII Music to hear, why hear'st thou music sadly? Sweets with sweets war not, joy delights in joy: Why lov'st thou that which thou receiv'st not gladly, Or else receiv'st with pleasure thine annoy? If the true concord of well-tuned sounds, By unions married, do offend thine ear, They do but sweetly chide thee, who confounds In singleness the parts that thou shouldst bear. Mark how one string, sweet husband to another, Strikes each in each by mutual ordering; Resembling sire and child and happy mother, Who, all in one, one pleasing note do sing: Whose speechless song being many, seeming one, Sings this to thee: 'Thou single wilt prove none.' But I should be okay I already have half of them. In faith I do not love thee with mine eyes, For they in thee a thousand errors note; But 'tis my heart that loves what they despise,Who, in despite of view, is pleased to dote.Nor are mine ears with thy tongue's tune delighted;Nor tender feeling, to base touches prone,Nor taste, nor smell, desire to be invitedTo any sensual feast with thee alone:But my five wits nor my five senses canDissuade one foolish heart from serving thee,Who leaves unswayed the likeness of a man,Thy proud heart's slave and vassal wretch to be: Only my plague thus far I count my gain, That she that makes me sin awards me pain. Posted September 7, 2017 Sonnet 12, with Morphodrakes! (Yes, I'm collecting Honeys and Greater Spotteds, planning on Sonnets 1 and 19 for them. Sonnets for ALL the drakes!) https://dragcave.net/lineage/0UWtF Sonnet XII When I do count the clock that tells the time,And see the brave day sunk in hideous night; When I behold the violet past prime,And sable curls, all silvered o'er with white; When lofty trees I see barren of leaves,Which erst from heat did canopy the herd,And summer's green all girded up in sheaves,Borne on the bier with white and bristly beard,Then of thy beauty do I question make,That thou among the wastes of time must go,Since sweets and beauties do themselves forsakeAnd die as fast as they see others grow; And nothing 'gainst Time's scythe can make defence Save breed, to brave him when he takes thee hence. The Brimstones can keep it, and I'll pick some other sonnet for the Greater Spotted Drakes. I'm not quite ready to start breeding them yet anyway. Share this post Link to post
Posted September 22, 2017 hmm i dont know, its really been a long time! There hasn't been an update yet so maybe they didn't even start? Share this post Link to post
Posted December 1, 2017 Sonnet I is done, I decided to go with Greater Spotted Drakes for that one, since 19 is in question. Once I get the last pair of Honey Drakes I need to start the next sonnet, I think I'll do 13 with them. For the Sonnets Sonnet I From fairest creatures we desire increase, That thereby beauty's rose might never die, But as the riper should by time decease, His tender heir might bear his memory: But thou contracted to thine own bright eyes, Feed'st thy light's flame with self-substantial fuel, Making a famine where abundance lies, Thy self thy foe, to thy sweet self too cruel: Thou that art now the world's fresh ornament, And only herald to the gaudy spring, Within thine own bud buriest thy content, And, tender churl, mak'st waste in niggarding: Pity the world, or else this glutton be, To eat the world's due, by the grave and thee. Posted February 21, 2018 Sonnet 13 finished! Sonnets for ALL the Drakes... at least until more drakes get released, lol! Sonnet XIII O! that you were your self; but, love, you are No longer yours, than you your self here live: Against this coming end you should prepare, And your sweet semblance to some other give: So should that beauty which you hold in lease Find no determination; then you were Yourself again, after yourself's decease, When your sweet issue your sweet form should bear. Who lets so fair a house fall to decay, Which husbandry in honour might uphold, Against the stormy gusts of winter's day And barren rage of death's eternal cold? O! none but unthrifts. Dear my love, you know, You had a father: let your son say so. Share this post Link to post
Posted January 27, 2019 It's the Tatterdrake's turn... sonnets for ALL the drakes! https://dragcave.net/lineage/oADs3 Sonnet LXIV When I have seen by Time's fell hand defaced The rich proud cost of outworn buried age; When sometime lofty towers I see down-razed, And brass eternal slave to mortal rage; When I have seen the hungry ocean gain Advantage on the kingdom of the shore, And the firm soil win of the watery main, Increasing store with loss, and loss with store; When I have seen such interchange of state, Or state itself confounded to decay; Ruin hath taught me thus to ruminate That Time will come and take my love away. This thought is as a death which cannot choose But weep to have that which it fears to lose. Share this post Link to post
