Freude herrscht was named like this because his code is "00G11".

 

Long and boring explanation for everybody not Swiss (or too young ): the code looks like "Ogi", the name of a Swiss politician. Many years ago he commented on the success of a Swiss astronaut with the words "Freude herrscht!", which I'm not sure how to translate - literally "joy prevails", and the phrase became quite popular.

Almost every single name I give to my draggies. Truth be told, I'm rather lame when it comes to names. Kalgurx, Gweldius, Angistus... ugh.

All of the good names I could come up with were already taken.

I have three dragons (well, one is a dino) named after Spongebob references that make me smile whenever I see them:

That's West Patrick (named after its code)

Those last two are mates.

 

A lot of my funny names belong to my unbreedables--dinos, cheeses, frozen hatchlings--since I don't need to give them the surnames I use for breeding reference. Sometimes with hatchlings, the parents' names provide a base that's too good to resist, like with these:

Ta Ko (yes, I have a dragon whose name is essentially Taco)

My Googledoc is Full of Hats (inspired by Monty Python's famous "My hovercraft is full of eels" sketch)

Dragons Who Say Nee (another Python reference, named after its mother)

Don't Tell Grandma I'm a Tinsel (named after its ancestor who, apparently, doesn't like to give its owner the right kind of eggs)

 

And finally, meet Caakensmoosher, my blue dino named as a tribute to the Muppets' Swedish Chef. I never realized before how many of my amusing names are references to outside jokes. But that's okay with me.

Here is the pending description to explain the name and why it's funny to me:

Contrary to popular belief, -Is it gone yet- wasn't named after his shyness. Rather, he was named this after his previous owner hid from him and asked another dragon owner to 'make it go away'. Apparently, -Is it gone yet- was too 'messy' for the previous owner. MessengerDragon doesn't mind though, and she happily took him in to live with her. -Is it gone yet- is very grateful, and tries to help his owner in every way he can.
