What's Really Being Traded Here?

Recommended Posts

Quick, what would you rather be offered in a trade, if you're not looking for building a specific lineage: a CB Purple Egg or a CB Purple Hatchling?

Most people, I believe, would want the hatchling. They won't be as likely to be 'locked by hatchlings as by eggs, and the baby will grow up sooner, and be able to produce more eggs. Thus, time adds value to the base worth of an egg.

In fact, that's really what we do here. We sit around, and trade time.

A well-constructed fourth-generation lineage took at least a month to create (going with a base assumption of a week for an egg to mature fully), whether it was one breeder who gathered all the CB eggs, or someone who assembled the lineage from later-generation dragons. And that's ideally: more often than not, it'll take more time to get the eggs needed, deal with refusals and lacks of interest in breeding. And so on!

While breed plays the most obvious role in the value of a dragon, what other odd factors do you think are in play? Creativity in parent-naming? Luck?

If I'm not building a lineage, that's easy. The hatchling, for the exact reasons you mentioned. I hate being egg locked, so the hatchling is more appealing to me.

But as a breeder and a collector, I'm more likely to take the egg. I can influence it to fill the gaps in my project or fill the empty spot in my collection.

...Yet, as myself I wouldn't take either. I don't breed purples. >w>;; </smart aleckyness>

The hatchling would be more appealing to me as well but as changeling said for lineage projects that I'm working on I prefer to get eggs or already gendered hatchlings as in they have wings and a gender already. As for lineage stuff I much prefer those as eggs so I can influence them as I please but Cb stuff I prefer at hatchlings.

I prefer hatchlings, for the simple fact of: Who doesn't like 'em? I can freeze, let them grow up, or whathaveyou at my leisure.

EITHER. CB Purples are so hard to get (I've resorted to trading Metallics for them!) and I love them so much, i'd be willing to dump some of my other eggs to obtain them. Also, Eggs are easier since I can influence their gender for my lineage (which has a strange flip-flop gender problem when it comes to generations - Gen 1 needs Females, Gen 2 needs Males, Gen 3 needs Females, ect).

If it's a dragon that's hard to get or I really want, i'll take either. However, if it's just a dragon that I find on the AP with a really messy lineage, i'd prefer a hatchling. And if i'm trading a hatchling, I prefer a hatchling in return.

Color plays a huge role for me. I wouldn't really care too much about acquiring the Gold dragons . . . the breed rarity and trade potential is meaningless to me . . . except for the fact that it is a yellow dragon. There is a severe under representation of certain colored dragons on DC (yellow yellow YELLOW!), so when it comes down to needing a certain color on my scroll I'm willing to give my eyeteeth for it, no matter what other factors are involved.

Yeah, I find that's the gist for most game trading in general. Like in World of Warcraft, people buy money from scammers/hackers because they don't want to spend the time farming for it (something WOW is infamous for). Or in TF2, people trade hats with one another because the amount of time it'd take them to find what they're looking for... could be months, years given RNG.

Not sure how I feel about that, but it makes sense. I'd pick the purple hatchling myself, since I can immediately name it and forget about it until it grows up.

I'm trying to get to the point where I don't have to trade at all. I am not lacking much of anything anymore, mostly hatchlings I want to freeze (about 40 left to go).

For me, if it's not neon orange in color I want it as a hatchling and to be lineaged or something to freeze. If it is neon orange, eggs are fine and close to any lineage goes.

Only exception are specific lineages involving said neon orange dragons, then I want to be able to influence them.

I care about all factors, depending on my mood/current goals.

Hatchies are good, but at the exact moment I'm working on lineages, thus making ungendered/uninfluenced hatchies of what I need useless to me. Egg or gendered only. And egg is perfectly fine. But an egg between 3-5 days is the best since I can influence and incuhach it. laugh.gif

I'm love cool codes, and I love Mints. A cool coded, nice lined (including CB) Mint hatchie is 100% <3 for me.

I love lineages. Really. I'm happy to trade hatchlings for really pretty lineages. I guess I'm trading for time too, except that I'm trading waiting-time for calculated-planning-time.

This is an interesting topic for me. I'm new and trying to decide what I want to breed for the purpose of helping to have nice things to trade.

I currently have several CB Magis growing and I'm trying to debate if I want to get them Water Dragon mates to try and get Shallow Waters to trade (with plans to keep any Magi offspring for additional teleports). Or if it is better to keep them pure Magi and try to trade every other purebred egg for things I want/need.

I have a 5-gen Whiptail project I'm finally ready to start, but I plan to keep all the eggs/offspring because I assume since they are 'Cave Blockers', no one will be super interested in them. laugh.gif I don't mind. I'm doing that for my own pleasure.

My next project, after the 5-gen Whiptails of Juniper Clan are finished, is going to be Orchedrakes. I love their description and the Drak species so I want to do it for my own pleasure. biggrin.gif

Well, dragon breed aside (the OBBBvious ones), creative parent naming is a 'thing' with me. Given the choice between the same egg/hatchling, I'll always take the one with named parents as opposed to the ones still running around with their sad little serial numbers. People have already enumerated the advantages/disadvantages of hatchlings vs. eggs, so I don't have to repeat them. Naming, I feel, is a way to be creative and clever, funny or outrageous and it makes the dragons more special for me.

HM.

Remind me to breed something for you. I have some weird names up there... xd.png

I would prefer eggs so I can influence them and I may need reds for incubating and speeding up unlocking of scroll. The parents' names dont matter but the lineage.

I'm almost never scroll locked anymore, so I'd take either. My choice would probably depend on lineage, because I already have all the purples I need in my "Collection" and am not working on any purple lineages at the moment. But if one of those purples was a pretty lineage with an awesome naming scheme, I'd be all over it!

Since my Collection of all dragon species is practically complete, except for a couple of things like neglecteds and a few extra zombies, I'm mainly trading for witty lineages or things which help with my own lineage endeavors. If I need a 5th gen spiral pebble with a few water dragons in its ancestry, then sure I'll trade a gold hatchie for it! xd.png

depends on the lineage. if i like the lineage, ill take it, regardless of breed, as either an egg or hatchie. but even then, since i dont collect sprites, i still wouldn't care much for freezing hatchies. i already have my gold trophy, allowing me more egg slots, so hatchie/egg doesnt matter to me. only lineage, basically. :>
