Warriors: Reign of Fear

Recommended Posts

Froststar was worried by the appearance of the rouges. They were bold, that was for sure, after they had chosen to come to a Gathering meant only for Clans, not groups o f rouges and their crazy leaders that claimed that StarClan was backing them. And they had killed a cat, right there, in front of their very eyes. There was no way that StarClan could have sent them, not with the way they had come and threatened them. Maybe the Dark Forest had sent them, or maybe no one had sent them at all, and they just had a crazy scheme planned to take over the valley, so soon after the Clans had moved there. It's possible that their 'scheme' could work, if it is that, a tiny voice said in her head. The Clans could be driven away or destroyed, always forced to run, run away, so weak that they can't even protect their home. Running, running, running. No. No more running. She was tired of hearing stories about the Great Journey and the second Great Journey. She would fight and prove that ShadowClan had strength, but also that they weren't a power-hungry bunch of tyrants. "ShadowCan is doing well. The prey is running; however, we have had some sightings of a fox." Froststar flicked her tail. "ShadowClan will do its best to find and drive out the fox, but the other Clans should watch out for it, just in case it leaves ShadowClan territory. We have also named two new warriors, Flightpath and Silverpool."

Jayflight murmured back, "It's okay." He tried not to show the fact that Streampelt's faint contact sent tingles down his spine. I hope she doesn't notice, he thought, turning back to face the leaders. His tail swished nervously, almost brushing Streampelt's again. Jayflight quickly wrapped his tail around his paws and forced his fur to lie flat. He shivered slightly, wondering what was going on with him. Streampelt was a good friend, probably nothing more. He was RiverClan deputy, after all. His duties had to be put first, shouldn't they? It felt so odd to feel like this about Streampelt. She was just a Clanmate... wasn't she?

((Shadow_claw, what did I tell you? You asked me several times and I answered you what to do. If you post here again without listening to me, I'm getting the mods.

I hate to be mean. D: But people that don't listen bother me.))

Lionstar let his voice ring through the area. "The Gathering is over. May StarClan light your paths." with that, Lionstar leapt off the Pondbranch and started to gather his Clan to leave.

Emberpaw walked over to Hazelpaw and Quietpaw. "Cmon, Quietpaw!" she said, leaping at him to bowl him over like what they did when they were little. "Lionstar is gathering the Clan already! Say goodbye to your friend!"

Leafpath looked around for her apprentice. She wanted to speak to him. It was what she had received on the night of when they went to the Moonpond. Boulderpaw did not meet with StarClan, but she did. The prophecy was fresh on her tongue.

Streampelt nodded and tried not to think how her tail brushing against Jayflight's made tingles go down her spine, like an electrical current and listened to each of the leaders reports with interest. Then when Lionstar called the Gathering over before starting to leave with his clan, she waited for Lightningstar to gather them up and then start to head back towards their own camp. As she waited, she went over and over in her head how she wanted to ask Jayflight to go on a border patrol with her tomorrow. She didn't want to mess up with asking him that since she thought that it was very important that she ask him without messing up. If she did, then she was afraid that he would think very little of her since she wouldn't be able to ask something properly. She hoped that he didn't think that and that's why she was rehearsing the question in her head before she asked it.

Shadow's ears perked up when she heard a stick hit a rock with a loud crack and then looked in the direction that the noise had come from, getting up to investigate shortly afterward. She then scented the air and detected someone else there but didn't know exactly where the other cat was. Not one of The Clan, she thought to herself as she thought about the scent of the mystery cat that was somewhere nearby. Probably another rogue wanting to join us. She then shrugged, thinking it was nothing before going back over to where she had left Mint. "I thought that I had heard something," she said to him as an explanation of why she had done what she did a few minutes earlier.

Hazelpaw dipped her head to Quietpaw and ran off to her Clan without waiting for the apprentice to say goodbye. It would be slightly awkward explaining how she had managed to comfort him though she was from another Clan, as she didn't quite know herself. Hopefully Breezeflight hadn't noticed that she had gone for a ThunderClan cat - that would just be another excuse for her mentor to yell at her. Not that she really minded, of course; Breezeflight was a good deputy and warrior, and she wanted to be as good a warrior as she could be. It was okay if he was a little strict. Flicking her tail, Hazelpaw caught up with her Clan and trotted a few fox-lengths behind Breezeflight.

Mint was yawning and missed the crack of the twig hitting the rock. He did notice Shadow's ears perking up, however, and blinked in puzzlement as his companion got up, scenting the air. Then she shrugged and came back, explaining that she thought she had heard something. "Okay," Mint meowed, frowning slightly. What if it was a cat sent by Eagle to bring Mint and Shadow back to The Clan? "I think we should check it out more thoroughly," he mewed, then scented the air. "Yup," said Mint, nodding in confirmation. "There's definitely a cat there." He flicked his tail, the fur on his back bristling in fear as his heart pounded in panic. Who was it? "Come out, wherever you are," Mint meowed loudly, aware that his voice shook a little. "We know you're here."

((It's like no one's interacting with my cats D: Sorry, just had to point that out...It's been bugging me ^^"))

Moonpaw listened to what the other leader's said, although she barely comprehended what they said. Her mind was far away, focused on the rogues and how they spoke of StarClan. The moving of cats jolted her back to the present, and she followed her clan home. Longing for a long rest in the medicine cat's den, her paws were heavy and eyes starting flicker. She was tired, and it was obvious. This had been a long night for the medicine cat apprentice.

Ravenfrost looked up at the four leaders as they each spoke. The events of that night's gathering had shaken her greatly, but now ot was in the back of her mind. After all, she should enjoy life now, right? Worrying about the rogues shouldn't keep her troubled. As the leaders dismissed the Gathering, Ravenfrost trotted with the rest of ThunderClan back to camp.

[Oh sorrrrryyy ^^" I'll have Bluepaw talk to Moonpaw since Laura isn't on.~]

Lionstar finished the Gathering and Bluepaw got to her paws. "Come on, slow-poke," she meowed, prodding Oakpaw with her paw. Without waiting for him, she scurried after Lightningstar with her Clanmates. "Hi, Moonpaw," the young apprentice chirped happily, catching up with Moonpaw. The exhilaration of having Lightningstar recognize her in front of all those cats was catching up to her, and she felt like she could run miles and miles without getting tired. "That was . . . interesting," Bluepaw observed, not sure how to describe the rogues. "And scary." She shivered at the memory of Eagle's eyes, the way he had scanned the Clans as he challenged them to come fight them.

"I don't think StarClan really sent them," Bluepaw declared confidently. "The StarClan I've heard about from the elders, before they abandoned us, would never order cats to kill another. I don't think they've changed so much as to killing innocent cats, even if they're rogues . . . " Bluepaw let her voice trail away as she remembered the rogue that had been killed. They had to bury its body! They couldn't just leave it there . . . the apprentice halted and glanced wildly around, but the body seemed to have gone. Oh well. She shrugged and kept on walking.

[squee! nice to be back biggrin.gif also if you'd like, Willowpaw could join the conversation with the apprentices :3]

Jayflight's paws prickled. It felt like a flea was on his leg. If he tried to find it, he would most likely make a fool of himself, and of course he would do it in front of Streampelt, not to mention all the other Clans.Ugh. Yep. Definitely a flea. Trying not to twitch, he forced himself to keep still, all the while not glancing at Streampelt to see if she was looking at him. What an accomplishment- wait, what if she thinks I'm ignoring her? That's even worse. I hope she'll understand. Even better, maybe I'll take her out on patrol to explain. This is getting so complicated.

Haven shuddered on her perch, the tip of her tail flicking back and forth. She'd never felt so unprepared in her life. Before, she'd always been careful, cautious, and totally in control of the situation. At least most of the time. Now... she had no idea who was down there. They had to be- were definitely rogues. The scent was strong enough that she though there were two cats. She risked a peek through the branches. Haven let out a long breath. She was right about one thing this time. One of them looked like a she-cat, and the other probably a tom. Well. Nothing to it. Just go down, make a story, and then leave. You've done it before. Everything will be fine. She took another deep breath to calm herself before sinking her claws into the trunk and leaping down to the next branch.

Her clawtips felt sore from slowly lowering herself down the tree. It would have been much easier to hop down from branch to branch, but that would have been rather undignified. Haven had forced herself to look as composed as possible as she slowly descended. Pausing on a branch just a few fox-lengths from the pair, she studied the black she-cat. There was something about the shape of the ears and length of the tail that reminded her of someone. That she-cat must be related to someone in that old Twolegplace. They range far and travel far. Why hadn’t I covered my tracks? Haven gently dropped onto the lowest branch, a narrow, drooping one just a tail-length above the ground. It bobbed under her weight, but held. “Hello,” she purred, doing her best to act like everything was going as planned. Even though it’s not.

((yep yep we missed you pine smile.gif))

It took all over Streampelt's control not to glance over at Jayflight. She wanted to, she really did but her control was greater than her temptation to look at him so she didn't. She then sighed and glanced over at him asking, "Want to go on a border patrol with me tomorrow?" She knew that she had it planned out that she'd ask him that when they were on their way back to camp but she couldn't hold it back much longer. Plus the sooner she asked it, the sooner she wouldn't be nervous about asking it correctly anymore. She had asked it just as she had rehearsed it in her head so now all she had to do was wait for his reply along with waiting for Lightningstar to take them back to the camp.

Shadow nodded in reply to what Mint said about checking it out more thoroughly before he also scented the air and confirmed what she had scented earlier. She then heard him call out to the cat that was somewhere hiding at the edge of their camp before a cat that was as black as she was stepped out and purred out a greeting. "Hello," she said in reply with a small smile before examining her a bit. She thought that the other cat looked familiar but wasn't sure where or when she might've seen the other she-cat. No that's not it, she thought to herself as she tried to think of who the other cat's appearance looked like. "You look strangely like my mom," she said as she figured it out and as she tilted her head a bit to the side with a curious expression on her face.

((if she doesn't look like her and Haven's mom, pine let me know and I'll edit; only thing that i could come up with))

((Stunning, mkay~))

Moonpaw jolted awake as Bluepaw rushed up to talk with her. Although she had been a bit tired, she was wide awake now. She nodded a few times at what Bluepaw said, the young apprentice seeming full of energy. Moonpaw started looking up at the stars, and down to her paws, trying to think of what to say without letting all her anger of the rogues out on Bluepaw. Finally, she managed to say a few things. "No. Those cats were definitely not sent by StarClan. StarClan...has abandoned us. Besides," she started, "as the warrior code says, a true warrior doesn't need to kill to win a battle. Those mange-pelts said otherwise." Thinking about StarClan, Moonpaw's eyes seemed to glaze over as she remembered the times she tried to contact the spirits trough the moonpond on countless half-moon, to no avail.

[sure Holly. :3]

Mint's eyes widened slightly as a black she-cat dropped onto the lowest branch and greeted them. She looked familiar . . . Shadow greeted her in return and said that she looked like her mom. Obviously, Mint had never met Shadow's mom; he twitched his ears and meowed, "No, she looks like you, Shadow." He opened his mouth slightly to catch the new cat's scent again. Yes, he thought she wasn't part of The Clan, and he felt slightly more friendly toward her now. "What's your name?" Mint flicked his tail and sat down, but his ears were still perked up, showing that he was aware and ready to jump up if the new cat showed any sign of hostility and was ready to attack him or Shadow.

"My name's Mint," Mint introduced himself. "And this is Shadow." He gestured with his tail to the black-furred she-cat next to him. He had been right; they looked quite alike, and his green eyes narrowed slightly. That was weird; it wasn't so much of a coincidence to run across two cats that were black-furred and had green eyes, but with similar ear-shapes and tail-length . . . oh well. He shook his head slightly and smiled hesitantly at the new cat. She seemed nice enough, and hadn't said anything hostile. Mint was quite sure that she wasn't part of Eagle and his group of blood-thirsty rogues.

Perhaps they could take her in - three cats were safer than two, especially with Eagle and The Clan roaming around doing who-knows-what and perhaps looking to capture Mint and Shadow again. This strange black-furred she-cat with eyes that looked so much like Shadow's seemed like a cat he and Shadow could trust. But, then again, looks could be deceiving . . . well, they could at least give her a try, couldn't they? Mint stored the idea in the back of his mind somewhere to discuss with Shadow later, when they had talked to the black-furred she-cat and knew her a little better.

Bluepaw nodded solemnly in agreement. "Those rogues have no idea what they're talking about," she spat, lashing her tail. "Lightningstar and Lionstar showed them, at least. I'm sure he was bluffing about the nine lives." No matter what Bluepaw said, her eyes said that she wasn't so sure, but there was no way she was going to let Moonpaw know that. The medicine cat apprentice would think Bluepaw a coward. How would she be made warrior if even the medicine cat, who had no need to fight in battle, thought she was a coward? Bluepaw looked up from her musings to see that Moonpaw had a glazed look on her eyes.

"Erm, Moonpaw? Are you okay?" Bluepaw asked, worried that Moonpaw was undergoing some kind of shock or something. She wouldn't know; after all, she wasn't a medicine cat and she had just been made an apprentice a moon ago. Bluepaw thought carefully about what Moonpaw had said earlier and thought she knew what was the matter. "You're worried about StarClan abandoning us, aren't you," the she-cat meowed softly, sympathy in her eyes. StarClan's so-called abandonment had been harsh on all of the Clans, she had heard from the elders, but it must be especially hard on the medicine cats. They were the ones closest to StarClan, after all.

"It'll be fine," Bluepaw murmured awkwardly. "We can, er, manage on our own without StarClan. We handled the rogues fine! Sure, we lost a cat's life, but it was a rogue . . . not one of the Clans . . . uhm . . . " She trailed off, aware that she may be making the situation worse. "I'm sorry, Moonpaw," she whispered. They had reached the camp; she escorted her friend to the medicine cat's den. "Maybe a good sleep will make you feel better," Bluepaw mewed hopefully.

[Aaahhh sorry that took me so long. I forgot x3]

Shaking her head, Moonpaw looked at Bluepaw. "Thank you, Bluepaw. It's just... I thought I had something special with StarClan. Like a connection. I mean, I've tried countless times to contact them at the Moonpond. It just makes me so angry that the rogues will just talk about them like they're here, but they're not." Sighing, she said good night to Bluepaw, heading to her nest for a good night's sleep.

[Haven actually has dark blue/ indigo-y eyes. :3 Green works too; could be a trick of the light. Also maybe their mother could be called Angel since I need a kitty to refer to. Kind of irony to have kits named Haven and Shadow. If it doesn’t work, I’ll edit. smile.gif About Willowpaw- my bad; I thought they were still at the Gathering, so I’ll leave her out. ^^’]

Haven tipped her head to the side. At least the rogues weren’t pouncing on her- yet. Up close, that she-cat, Shadow, really did remind her of someone. Someone like Angel… She shut down the thought before it could really take shape. She had been her mother’s only kit… hadn’t she? “I’m Haven. Nice to meet you.” She curled her claws, but quickly sheathed them again as Mint’s ears pricked. Clearly he was aware of every movement she made, no matter how small. Fighting would be a bad idea if she hadn’t even talked to them and found out whose side they were on. Haven settled herself in the damp leaf mulch and wrapped her tail around her paws, though her muscles were still coiled, ready to spring. If they attacked, she would have to fight. And viciously- two against one were only good odds if you were one of the two. Haven wrenched herself back into the present before memories of previous fights carried her away. She studied Shadow again. Her resemblance to Angel was striking, but surely it was just a coincidence. Still- the way Shadow carried herself, a little haughty, but completely in control. Just like her. It was so familiar.

[i’ll post with Jayflight in a bit; have to play piano. I’ll be back! :3 Pui! Edited with Jay- small time-skippy in the middle.]

Jayflight whipped around, eyes brightening. It's going to be great! I hope I don't say anything weird. And... Suddenly remembering that we was supposed to reply he cleared his throat loudly to cover up his eagerness. "Sure. It would be great to spend some time together," he said coolly, hoping Streampelt wouldn't think he was being rude, acting so aloof. "I'm sure you'll do... um... a great job. Patrolling. I mean, setting markers. Or, um, protecting the borders. Wait- oh, never mind." He smiled sheepishly and trotted ahead. He gave himself a mental slap as he leaped across a puddle, seeing the camp in the distance.

Glancing over at Moonpaw, he started. Moonpaw's eyes were glazing over- maybe she was having a sign for StarClan! Hope flared in him, until he noticed Bluepaw's look of sympathy. It was probably just shock. "Moonpaw?" Jayflight meowed. He was beginning to worry when she didn't respond, but Bluepaw quickly intervened and led Moonpaw to the medicine cat's den. After Moonpaw stumbled in under their watchful gaze, he turned to the young apprentice. "You've good qualities, Bluepaw," he said, "I'm sure you'll be a great warrior. When you help your Clanmates through troubled times, you also help yourself become a better cat. Traits such as kindness, empathy, and compassion will guide you on your path to becoming a warrior." He lightly touched his tail-tip to her shoulder. "Good night," Jayflight called, padding into the warriors' den and curling up in his nest.

((sure that works pine happy.gif))

Shadow nodded politely to Haven when she heard the other she-cat's name and said in reply with a small smile on her face, "It's nice to meet you too." She had heard what Mint said earlier about Haven looking like her and not her mom but now that she was closer to her than before, Haven did remind her a little bit about her mom. Maybe she knows who my dad was, she thought to herself while letting out a small sigh.

She hadn't really known her father at all. She sort of remembered him being there when she was born but then she hadn't seen him after that or before her mom had died. She sometimes wondered if he was still alive somewhere or if he was dead.

"Yes it would be," Streampelt said in reply and agreement as well. She then heard everything else that he said about him being sure that she would do a great job at patrolling, setting the markers, and protecting the borders. "Thanks," she said with a small blush on her cheeks before he said never mind and then leaped over the puddle after him back towards their camp.

She then heard everything that he said to Bluepaw after Moonpaw was led to the medicine cat's den and couldn't help but nod in agreement with a smile on her face. She then went to the warrior's den and was already asleep in her nest when Jayflight arrived and curled up into his own nest. She had gotten there before he did but how she had managed that, she wasn't sure.

[i don't think so. :3]

Jayflight wriggled in his nest, hoping he wasn't disturbing anyone. His nest felt like there was a bit of sharp reed in it, but he didn't want to get up to take it out. Ugh. I'll just throw it outside. Don't want to look frazzled tomorrow morning when I patrol with Streampelt. Just the thought made him shiver with excitement. Hopefully he would be able to act naturally. Burying the reed in the soft mud in a corner of camp, Jayflight crept back into the den and curled up in his nest. After licking a paw and giving his ears a quick swipe, he tucked his tail over his nose and went to sleep.

Haven tucked her left forepaw behind the other, wondering what to say. An awkward silence stretched between the trio. Shadow didn't seem very talkative, but she was the one whom Haven wanted to question. I hope she'll reveal more secrets. She looks older than I am. Maybe Angel would have told her- wait. Haven flicked her ears, feeling stupid. She was already assuming Shadow was a member of her lost family. Too many mistakes had been made today; she couldn't afford to make another. It's just a coincidence. It's just a coincidence. Haven kept repeating it in her head, again and again, almost convincing herself that it was true, though a shred of doubt stayed lodged in her mind.
