Anyone else hate lineages?

Recommended Posts

I agree with AkariY. That is about the only reason I dislike lineages.

Other than that, I don't really care. I just decided to join a lineage because I thought it would be a fun thing to do. But before that I never really thought about them.

Looking at some lineages posted here though, some are really cool!

I don't get why people get so upset about "how they can't get expensive/rare dragons". Wanna know the secrets to this? Red Hatchlings. Pink and Purple and sometimes Magi work too, but more than anything, Red Hatchlings. If you can raise 2-5 or whatever red hatchlings at the same time and say you are looking for offers, all these people with super rare never can seem to get dragons will be banging down your door. And that doesn't require a lineage or anything. They can be as inbred as an endangered species in a sanctuary. No one cares about the lineage of BSAs because its not so much where they came from but what they do.

Now don't get me wrong, if you can make some semi prettier lineages on your BSA babies it can be a huge plus. But BSAs are valued based on what they can do rather than how Cosmo they are.

THAT. I have no problems trading a CB stripe/vine/black for multiple red hatchling IOUs. Absolutely no problems with that at all, and I've done it often. I don't have room to breed a bunch of reds when there's other stuff I could be breeding/collecting, so this makes it so much easier for someone who doesn't have much to get that rare from me because, hey, all they have to do is raise some horribly lineaged reds instead of offering their soul or something tongue.gif

I love lineages! I have a Pink/Daydream even gen inbred lineage that I've been working on

And I'm working on a rainbow type even gen lineage. Still in progress, but here's a couple of my later gens:

http://dragcave.net/lineage/BqNlA

http://dragcave.net/lineage/MoV4S

And here's a lovely one that I snagged from the AP

The Stripe lineage project I participated in:

The Holiday lineage I participated in:

I love to look at these - some of them have taken a lot of planning and time and they are pretty to look at. When I first started, I just snagged dragons - didn't pay attention and didn't care about CB or bred. I wish I had because when I started my account, CB Blacks were the cave blockers. I only have one CB Black...and I wish I had more so I could work on other, interesting lineage combos with them. Now when a new breed comes out, I try to get as many as possible so if I like them, I can make future lineages out of them.

I now have all but four or five breeds. I just started really getting into lineages and I do like them. It is fun, and I think without them I would have quite already, or greatly reduced my time here. Another game I play I only visit maybe once or twice a month because I have everything I can get without using real money. DC has kept my interest, and a big part of that is lineages. But I also still take in messy lineages from sprites I love.

I agree with raising and trading Reds. I'm always looking for Reds and will trade rares for them.

Also, there are some of us who Glomp rares. My favourite Glomp breeds are the CB Blacks, CB Stripes, CB Vines, nice Tinsels, the Trios, and I have even Glomped a couple of short gen Golds and Silvers.

When I first started, I too, couldn't give a care about lineages, but the more dragons I have, the more I'm interested in making them or carrying them on. If I just collected all the sprites I needed, to have how ever many set numbers of each, I would have nothing left to do *shrugs*

Honestly, when I first started out I couldn't care less whether something was bred or CB, inbred or pretty. I just wanted to collect sets of all the dragons. In fact, AP clogging was such an issue, and there was so much talk of the frustration it caused, that I intentionally picked up the majority of my eggs from the AP to start out with, just to do my part to help. (In fact, that's actually why I only got my first CB Blacks within the last couple of weeks, thanks to the lovely CDM. <3 When I started out? It would've been pretty simple to pick up a CB Black whenever I wanted. But noooo, instead I grabbed a bunch of inbred ones from the AP... Heh.)

And I was happy playing that way, for quite some time. The thing is, I've been playing for years now, and I'm getting really close to completing all the sets that I want of the various breeds. For the majority of breeds, although I like them, I just have no desire to collect more beyond what I consider an aesthetically pleasing, "complete" number. Most if the remaining dragons that I want in order to complete collections are, increasingly, rare and/or difficult to obtain.

So, for me, now... Lineages have been a really fun way to keep things fresh, and give me new projects to be working on and goals to obtain. Plus, when it comes to commons, it actually gives me a reason to get excited when I see someone offering, say, a Nocturne - because oh, look at the pretty pattern they've built into the lineage! Or a reason to wander through the AP, picking up random Fogs, and Terraes, and such, in hopes that there might be a pretty surprise on the lineage page. That gives me a reason to raise and keep another one, when I otherwise wouldn't want it because I've got my set.

So, while I can understand why you might be frustrated with the idea of a lineage raising or lowering the value of an egg, from my point of view more often than not it enhances my continued interest in the game considerably.

I'm not sure it is easier to trade lineaged eggs. I've had nice lineaged eggs I ended up dumping because nobody could give a.... about them, and I never asked for anything ludicrous (I just wanted fresh blood in my scroll).

Anyways, I do them because I enjoy them. I've got a few on the works right now, and need several CB eggs to continue.

Like these;

Anyways, I do it for my own amusement. I'm a terrible hunter, and this is a way to keep me interested and occupied. tongue.gif

I personally don't really care about lineages at all. I have some dragons that happen to have nice lineages but I'm not going to go out of my way to continue breeding them in an organized fashion tongue.gif

I do not keep dragons at all unless they have nice lineages.

After being a member for over a year now, I've noticed one thing; GENERALLY, only newer members don't care about lineages, or dislike lineages. All the old and hardcore members tend to want nice lineages, myself included. No inbreds, nothing messy.

It is an important part of the game.

Here's my two cents:

I like lineages. I can't create them because I'm just not that orderly and most of my dragons aren't anything great. But I salute those who can create those 3 page long spirals or whatever. Lineages are more than just pretty faces though, they represent a lot of time and effort put into making something beautiful. I love to look through scrolls and see the lineages, as well as a couple I've collected over the months. wub.gif

I was always a fan of lineages. But, not specific ones. I loved to grab the massive lineaged dragons off the AP and look at all the different dragons and see if I could find ones that were in my other dragon's lineages.

Now, i'm kind of picky. I loooove Even-Gen. And i'm an even bigger fan of Purebred Even Gen. I'm not a big fan of Staircase, Spiral, ect. And i'm not as big of a fan of messy lineages as I once was. Back in 2009, you could always find connections. Today, there's too many users with too many dragons to care.

As for an "army", I agree that one should not care about lineages. I don't care at all about my Purple's Lineages. I collect any that I find, even if inbred or messy. And I love them all.

However, I find there's still something fun about creating your own lineages. Especially when you breed your own dragons together. I guess it's all opinion, though because while I find it fun, others may not.

I only like the pretty ones. I usually don't like Even-Gen, unless it's PB or follows some sort of pattern.

But yeah, I definitely do see what you mean. I'd much rather have a CB than a lineaged dragon (unless it's a BSA slave).

I agree lineages suck i jsut get pulled into them so i can trade. When i first joined i didnt give a crap about lineage and i still dont i jsut need to be able to trade. The only lineages i like are the ones that follow an intresting patternt. Im thinknig about making one myself later on.

I know what you mean. >.> When I first joined, I didn't join the forums. For the whole year I didn't ever look at the lineage or realize the lineage was "ugly". I have a lot of messy lineaged trios because I didn't know all about pretty lineages. I just kept on breeding them. But I can't trade them for anything now. sleep.gif But now I know about pretty lineages. mellow.gif

I enjoy admiring people's amazing lineages. Many are beautiful and very carefully thought out.

I don't have a lot of time to spend on DC, so instead of lineages I focused on making my water army (started ~July 09). It takes only a few seconds for me to grab 7 water eggs from the cave and AP, and then I'm done for the next 3 days. biggrin.gif

I love lineages. It gives me something to work for rather than just grabbing a few random eggs from the AP/Cave or breeding them. That takes me a few seconds. But planning out a beautiful lineage takes much more time and effort and makes the game much more fun to me. ^__^

I could honestly care less about it's lineage. if I were given a gold tinsel with a messy lineage, or an even lineage, I'd be happy the same amount. Since I'v never managed to grab anything worth trading (I'm a newb and proud? Dx), I don't really worry about that yet.

DarkEternity- that sounds like kind of a waste of time

well, the concept of internet games in general is a waste of time. wink.gif

i personally love lineages. they give a sort of purpose to this site. i also prefer even gen. it drives me to socialize and talk to people who share my goals, because even gen often requires teamwork and IRL im socially inept. also, even gens require a little more effort, especially if the breeds follow a pattern. that means the breeder put effort into their work.

ETA: in the beginning, lineages didnt matter to me. now though, i see that those with the prettiest dragons also have the prettiest lineages.

Well I guess if you look at it that way its not a waste of time.

Maybe since I just joined today in a few weeks I'll get the charm and be all over lineages

I love people who AP dump nice lineages. I like to keep things stairstep or even gen. Stairstep's easy enough for me to take care of on my own, but when you start getting up there in the even gens it gets hard to keep finding mates for everyone. I hold on to all kinds of even gens, just in case.

For example, I grabbed this guy off the AP over a year ago, and it took me nearly a year to end up getting him a mate, but I hate to break an even gen lineage.

I also love it when people continue a lineage pattern that I started. :3

Hmm... I could only think of a few particular reasons as to why lineages are so important anymore.

Firstly, you need to consider that a lot of members have all Dragons or need things such as '07 Hollies. Taking myself for an example, I still need a GoN, a Neglected, '07 Holly, and... that may be it, though I'm not entirely sure. I am obviously not going to come across an '07 Holly until December and probably won't get one then, so I am not actively hunting for it. I can only Summon once every two weeks, Leetle Trees are more scarce than CB Golds, and I am currently not trying for a Neglected. So, that leaves me with nothing to really aim for... therefore lineages create a challenge and a reward for the player who is creating the lineage. I actually just restarted a small lineage that I had been working on when Waterhorse dragons first came out, and every time I breed a new dragon for the lineage I am that much prouder. Before, I was collecting random dragons simply to fill my Egg slots, but now I am filling my entire Scroll with male CB Waterhorses and female offspring of the particular lineage. They have a purpose to me now.

http://dragcave.net/lineage/ZtNIp

Though it's nothing large, I find it rather pretty to look at. Neatness and consistency are appealing to the eye, and therefore any good-lineaged dragon may be much more appealing and sought-after.

Another lesser reason may be the fact that boxed Lineage pages used to be something very new to DC. Nobody cared about lineages when you had to click "Mother" and "Father" links because nobody really took the time to do so. Now that every ancestor can be viewed on one page, it serves more of a purpose. Plus, Silvers weren't rare enough to begin with, so now we have Black x Silver checkerboard Silvers flying around and the regular Silvers left to rot (well, obviously those Silvers get great homes, but you see what I'm attempting at here).
