Freedom Hills: A Mustang RP

The large clysdale watched the other horse gallop away, leaving her with the other two. Angel had been laying down for much too long so, pushing her weight against the tree. She struggled to her hooves, legs shaking vigorously. Angel let out a soft whimper and pain but finally managed to stand but sadly collapsed under the substantial pain she was going through.

Sage sadly trotted across the hills. Why does everyone blame me for something I didn't do? she asked herself. Even Willow doesn't trust me anymore! she thought as she angrily stomped her hoof on the grass. Why don't I start my own herd in the plains? Its close to the water and I won't be alone... she thought as a brilliant idea poped into her head. Excited, she galloped over hill after hill untill she reached the smooth lands of the plains.

"Sage!" Ghost called after the disappearing horse. She looked back to see if any other of the horses were watching. She galloped quickly on her short legs to catch up with the older horse. "What happened?" She asked. "Where are you going?"

In one final attempt, Angel managed to get up onto her own four feet. She looked around for any signs of other horses but found none. Angel clearly remembered the direction Willow had gone so she readied herself and began a full-speed gallop in that direction, hoping to reach another horse.

Willow:

Willow uneasily glanced around, but she did not notice Ghost leaving. Why did her foal have to go missing now, she couldn't leave Angel all alone. "Okay... New game plan. Thunder, Blue, Jolie, Paris, and Ace. You guys go find Angel. She is that way." Willow pointed with her muzzle. "Amber, Atlas, Jewel, Banjo, Flame, and Midge, come with me, we will go look for Casi and Sequoia. The rest of you stay put. Destiny! You're in charge. Now, Go!" Willow took off cantering with the search group she had chosen. The other group set out after Angel.

The group going to help Angel:

Quickly the group set out in the direction Willow had shown. Soon they saw a lone figure galloping toward them. The stopped right in front of the horse. "Are you Angel?", Blue asked.

The large horse skidded to a halt, nearly falling forward but managed to keep balance, "Yes, I'm Angel... I've met another horse, I think her name was Willow. I've been trying to find her." She shuffled her feet so she was more stable to the point where her swaying finally ceased.

"I'm going far away. Where these others will never find me. And I suppose you want to follow me so you can tell them where I am," she said angrily to the smaller horse not meaning to hurt it's feelings. Realizing that she might have done just that, she then said, "I'm leaving because everyone there thinks I'm a trator. I don't know what I did, and I don't want to find out. You better turn back now or you'll never find your way back to them." Getting a little thirsty, the beautiful buckskin slowed by a small puddle and licked up some water. She nodded to Ghost to drink some too before the journey back to Willow's herd.

(And by the way, Orange might not be on for a while because she broke her arm and her leg. Just thought you all ought to know.)

Aaron sniffed the air. No sign of danger...Can't be too sure though. He proceeded to the lake. Aaron knew of Willow's herd that lived around here, and tried to avoid them. In fact, he avoided any herd at all costs.

Taking some gulps of water, he craned his neck when he heard hoof beats. Gradually, it faded away. Aaron sighed deeply. Just then, he heard something moving in the bushes. Aaron's ears perked up with caution. A young mountain loin appeared and growled. It was not fully grow, so Aaron could take him on easily.

Aaron let out a warning neigh. The mountain lion stepped back then charged right directly towards him. This should be fun... Aaron thought with a smile.

Ghost licked up some water. "Actually" She said to the older horse. "I want to go with you. My mother...she was never really welcomed in Willow's herd. After she died, I think that they have been a bit biased to me."

She paused. "I want to go with you. I want a fresh start."

Sage looked sideways at Ghost. She lifted her head and look strait at the smaller horse. She finally nodded, "If you'r sure, but there's no going back when we reach the plains." She turned and looked at the vast expance of flat land. This was their home now, and they where never going back.

The mountain lion did a few circles around Aaron, then ran up to pounce him. Aaron reared high and stomped down on the mountain lion's front leg. It let out a painful yelp. "Don't like that, do ya?" Aaron snickered. It seemed to give up and begain to walk away. As soon as Aaron put his guard down and turned his back on it, the young mountain lion pounced again. This time it was sucessful, digging its claws onto Aaron's back. Aaron bucked and reared, trying to get it off him. The lion clung on tighter.

Rolling around on the ground, Aaron hoped to crush the lion with his weight. It's already injured arm could not hold on to the horse properly and it let go. The lion left for safety and hoped to find easer prey elsewhere. "That's right. Go run away with the bunny rabbits!" Aaron called out with a groan of pain. He washed his wound in the lake but claw marks near his withers still trickled a little blood. It would trail onto the ground wherever he walked. I hope this does not attract more preadators..or humans.

Aaron limped slightly as he continued walking.

The horses with Angel:

Blue looked at Angel. "Well, you're in pretty bad condition. I can see why Willow wanted us to find you. Oh! I'm sorry... I haven't introduced us yet. What terrible manners I have these days. I'm Blue, this is Ace, Thunder, Jolie, and Paris..." She introduced each of the horses and then turned back to Angel, "Willow sent us to come and find you. She encountered some um... sever circumstances that needed her attention. We came to escort you back to the herd's current location. Are you able to walk? If so that would make our journey easier. Although you were galloping before, so you should be able to now."

Ghost had to lightly run to keep up with the older horse. "So, you want to tell me what happened? Or wait for later?" She asked.

(I'm still trying to think of something)

"I'll wait to tell you untill we find some place to call home," she told Ghost. She slowed a little so the younger one wouldn't hurt herself, running so fast.

A black ear swung to the side amidst the sea of silver-white hair. The two eyes, a polished ebony similar to the gloss over the horse's body, flickered ever so slightly on her delicate face. Both nostrils were flared, and quiet breaths occasionally puffed from the velvety passages. Her object of interest was a human, bent over at the waist as he inspected the shoe of the large-barreled mare he had just dismounted from. The horse had her hind foot cocked upwards in obvious discomfort, and the boy hunched over it, puzzled. Thankfully the wind was rather still during that time, and if any breeze picked through the trees, it gently brushed against Polaris's dark face and kept her location a secret to the troubled pair on the path.

From what the wild mare could see, the silver half-ring on the bottom of the other mare's hoof was only attached by a single spoke. The rest hung loosely from the hoof in danger of dislodging. The boy appeared to notice this as well and squatted by the mare's leg, running his naked hand over her fur in a kind manner before stopping just above the poorly shod foot. The black horse in the shadows watched silently from behind a thick grove of trees, only a sliver of her ivory mane visible from the humans' position. Of course, the boy had his back to her, and his domesticated mare was oblivious to her wild cousin only mere feet away.

The rhythmic, muffled thuds of hooves over soil drew the mare's eyes upwards. From down the path another rider appeared, this time on the back of a sweating gelding. Cautiously, quietly, the chocolate palomino withdrew farther into her refuge, lest the newest addition spotted her amongst the foliage. He, however, was preoccupied with the boy and the mare on the side of the path, and when he slowed his gelding to a stop beside him, she took the noise of their conversation as cover and completely removed herself from the scene.

Polaris often wandered close to human residential areas. The humans in themselves were curious creatures that she enjoyed studying, but nothing was as captivating as the idea of getting to see her elder brother. She only knew little of what he looked like, but that had been a fuzzy description from her mother, when he had been but a very young foal. He would have been much older now, and there even ran the possibility that her brother was dead- but until she had substance evidence to think such things, Polaris knew she would continue to return to man's abode to scour the ranks of her kin.

As she moved farther from the humans and deeper into the recesses of equine territory, her thoughts traveled away from those of her lost brother to the world around her. She briefly wondered about Willow's herd, and then Tonto's, naming the few names she could remember and recalling hazy memories of their faces in a small concern for their welfare. Though she never truly belonged with any herd, there were still horses she had taken to better than others, the ones that she would have cared for deeply had she been a more sociable creature. Instead, they only held a vague importance, but at least it was enough to grant her acknowledgment. It would never be enough to get her to go back and see for herself.

The breeze shifted slightly and soft gusts gathered in her nostrils. She paused for a moment, a foreleg suspended in mid-stride, obsidian legs stock-still as her ears swiveled around and her nose tilted towards the scent she had caught on the sparse wind. It was faint, and very brief, but even still her dark eyes blinked in a small display of surprise. Had that been a mountain lion she'd smelled? And...blood? Though Polaris was not frightened, as she did not scare easily, the mare stepped forward with extreme caution. Her ivory tail swayed steadily at her hocks as she moved in the direction she believed the wind had carried the alarming scents from. It took several minutes, perhaps a good quarter of an hour, before she pushed her slender muzzle through a bush and saw the source of her attention. It was a stallion, standing alone, bloody gashes across his withers and back. He looked damp as if he had attempted to bathe himself, and for a long moment Polaris stood there, watching.

Eventually, she pushed the rest of the way through the leafy branches and stood off to the side, surveying him through her guarded and indifference gaze. "Are you alright?" Her voice met the air quietly, but the volume was natural, firm, lacking in shyness altogether and carrying a strong, rich tone through its feminine currents. She had one ear tilted toward him, while the other flickered towards the bushes and trees, on the look out for the beast that had attacked the lone stallion before her.

Fortune woke up just as the sun was peeking over the horizon. She yawned and began to stretch her legs. Fortune had a restless sleep last night. She had dreamed a nightmare that she had every so often. It was about what could have happened if she had not been rescued by Tonto's herd. Fortune was particually scared of this nightmare, as it could have been real if she had not had such good fortune. She looked around and saw that Tonto was awake. He told her good morning. She nodded her head as an answer. Fortune was to shy to say much to anyone. However, she had no reason to be shy. Everyone in Tonto's herd was kind to her and, after all, they had in fact saved her life. Fortune wondered what this new day might bring.

Rain began to stir as dawn's first light appeared over the horizon. She pulled he legs from underneath her, and stood up on slightly wobbly legs. She was still very young and still growing, so she was a bit akward. Shaking grass from her mane, she walked slowly to the lake for a drink. In the few months that she had been in this herd, Rain had come to know the area well. When she reached the lakebed, she lowered her head to drink. However, something caught her eye to her left. A bright blue butterfly was fluttering about around some flowers. Rain raised her dripping muzzle from the water, and turn to look at it. Her playful nature took over then, and she cantered forward to inspect the tiny little creature. When she got with a few feet of it, however, the butterfly darted away. Rain flicked her ears and nickered softly. It wants to play tag! she thought, veering off to chase it. When she got very close to it, the butterfly fluttered around her head a few times, it's tiny wings brushing her cheek. Rain whinnied happily, "That tickles!" She reared up and cantered away, waiting to see if the butterfly would follow.

((I was in florida with no computer...))

When Sage and Ghost finally reached the plains, she turned to her and said, "They think that I have showed the humans where we lived. They think I went to the humans to give our old home away. I... I went there because I had a sister there. She was verry ill when I saw her last, and when I went to see her again, the others said she had died. The humans gave me food, but they didn't follow me. They don't know where they live, and now they won't know where we live either. Come on, we should get some rest. It's almost night."

Aaron shifted his attention of the pain coming from his wounds to the mare that was close by. It took him a moment to process her question. Instead of answering it, he took a step forward "Who are you?" Another shot of pain went all over his body. Aaron's legs weakened and gave in. He groaned in fustration as his body fell to the ground. "I'm fine, I just need to rest." Aaron hated the fact of looking weak in front of this new horse.

Her dark eyes flickered with indifference over the stallion's figure, noting the wounds without emotion. She still had one ear cocked toward him that moved slightly when he demanded her introduction. Instead of answering, however, she remained silent as he toppled to the ground. She stood quietly in her spot, waiting for him to settle in his place; when it seemed he wasn't about to get up again, her dark legs carried her forward and around his body lying on the floor.

The lake behind the stallion, the one she believed he had just tried to wash himself in, sparkled in the sunlight. It was peaceful and serene, but she merely glanced over its shimmering surface before craning her slender muzzle down and brushing her lips against the cool mud that her forehooves sunk into. She turned around again and approached the stallion's back before gently smearing the cold mud across the gashes in his skin.

Once she'd covered a majority of the injuries, she stepped off to the side to wipe her maw on the grasses. "There. That should help," she said simply, ignoring his inquiry to her name. She had no inclination to give it, with or without his imploring. Instead, she lifted her nose and scented the wind again. When she was satisfied the cougar had indeed left the area, she glanced briefly back at Aaron. "It will do you no good to rest here alone." And with that, she lowered her head again and nibbled quietly at the grass.

Aaron stiffened "Hey, I never got your name!" He demanded but as soon as the grass touched him, he forgot what he said. The grass felt smooth against his wounds, and he was surprised it lowered his pain. Aaron felt suspicous around this mare though, its the way he feels around most horses. It didn't help that this mare was quiet and kind of mysterious to Aaron, for he never saw her before.

His body wanted rest..no, needed rest..but he wouldn't close his eyes. He didn't trust this strange black mare. He cleared his throat. "What herd are you from? Or are you a loner, like me?" It's been a while since Aaron talked to any horse. He half wanted to be left alone, half enjoyed the company.

Polaris continued to graze, her back toward the fallen stallion. He seemed a little impulsive, but at least he seemed somewhat willing to accept her help. She didn't normally extend her aid to others, but he seemed to be a loner like her, and she knew that in a similar situation, help would have been appreciated regardless.

She turned her head slightly, her thick silver-white forelock falling across her eyes. At his question, she finally lifted her head and gave herself a small shake to move her mane from out of her gaze. Polaris gazed at him quietly for a long moment before answering, "I am from both Willow's and Tonto's. But not any longer." He confirmed that he was indeed a loner, but she didn't acknowledge this. Instead, she lifted her muzzle to gaze up at the sky for a moment, as if in thought. Then, after a little while, she glanced back at him and said, "Polaris. My name is Polaris."

((No Problem StarSea, glad you are back!))

Tonto:

Tonto noticed that Fortune was up and slowly backed up so he was standing next to her. He flicked his tail at a fly that was trying to land on him before turning to Fortune. "How is the youngest member of our herd doing this morning?" he asked politely, "Did you sleep good?"
