They were "spriter alts" that were gifted to users who experienced the sweetling glitch where users who caught sweetlings in the first few minutes of the release had their dragons deleted. As an apology for the mistake, the users' sweetlings now turn black, so they can only have black/alt sweetlings and anyone who didn't experience the glitch can only have pink.

It's still a pretty lineage. =)
