Warfare of the Salizdorian Races

Recommended Posts

Rasi thought she spotted something in the clouds, it was a black long shape. She thought she saw another thing in her eye cornor. She frowned a little, feeling a bit uneasy. Almost straight away, her onrage colors changed to green. She flapped her small wings, throwing herself back into the sky and flew more faster, when she heared the screeches she all of the sudden gain speed and flew even more faster. The screeches got louder and something dropped from the sky, she could see fire and roaring in the distance.

"No, no, no," she whispered. "This cannot be happening!"

They were in a battle. Everything was noisely and it was getting hotter then colder then hot again. She could see two dragons clinging onto each other, breathing fire and ice at their faces while screeching and roaring loudly as one of them raked their claw down its neck causing the other one to scream in pain. Then in a distance, a fire-breather dragon was surronded by the ice-breathers. The ice breathers circled the fire dragon and blew out tiny but deadly shards of ice at the fire dragon. The fire dragon lifted its wing in defend himself from the sharp pieces of ice. They bounced off its thick leather hide of the wing and the fire dragon thrown himself at one of the ice dragons, he taken the beast with him.

Rasi watched around herself fearfully, not knowing what to do apart from trying to get out of there as fast as they could. Flying into the middle of a battle wasn't the wisest idea.

Her scales turned blue, which was showing the elf on her back that she was feeling scared. Almost instantly, one of the fire-breathers turned towards her, snarling lowly as his blood red eyes narrowed on the small, blue dragon carrying the elf. He flapped his great, leathery wings and busted out a huge fireball at them. Rasi screeched loudly and dived down, just dodging the large ball full of fire as it missed Rasi by inches. She was swooping down, trying to get out of the battle and avoid the angry fire dragon. The fire-breather roared in anger and flew after them, mistaking Rasi as one of the ice dragons.

((I love how someone from an entirely different part of the (presumably rather large) continent knows exactly where to find Vi when not even she knows quite where she is. And is also privy to knowledge of the truth about one of the Human government's most successful - and therefore best protected, that being how such things work - wetwork units. But whatever, 5665's been around longer than me so I guess we'll run with it))

Basic training, Vi decided as the motorised sword was finally disassembled at the cost of yet more cuts to her offhand arm and shoulder, was a synonym deranged physical torture.

Her slight, undernourished frame was ill-suited to front line combat and the athleticism required of a Grey Lancer in the field, but she was required to complete it anyway. This was currently her thirteenth attempt at finishing the Pretty Pink Pony Party Parade - a garishly painted obstacle course of Rosa's design that made her think of urban warfare in the magic candy kingdom and also made her cough up coal dust-streaked phlegm on a fairly regular basis. After this, she had another seven different courses to complete, plus markswomanship and close combat exams. Still, she told herself she couldn't let them down...

There was a wall in her way. She swore proficiently and heaved herself up the rope, vision blurring as she inched her way to the top, dodging the majority of the blunted crossbow quarrels as she climbed. Everything began going strange colours as she got further up but she pressed on, mouth twisted into some parody of a fearsome grin, climbing hand over red-raw, trembling hand until she sat pretty on the top trying to catch her breath and ascertain which of the five or so spinning platforms below she had to jump onto-

POW

A boxing glove on a spring sent her crashing to the ground, her landing an awkward jumble of half-remembered proper falling techniques and grey, unnecessarily hard stone. She retched, clutched at her stomach and moaned like a ghost with a still-living husband. Footsteps to her probably-left-once-everything-has-stopped-being-all-wobbly just made the retching finally come up with something, a long stream of greenish-yellow lumpy stuff flecked with the ubiquitous tarry black dots that pointed to her factory-ravaged respiratory system. She was hauled to her feet, her dead-mouse hair pushed back out of her face, and hugged soundly by Lauren.

Wait, Lauren's hugging me? But... no. No way. No way!

"Well done, Trainee Clayton. That's your first obstacle course out of the way... now, off to have your - oh, Rosa, really now, is that entirely necessary?"

"What? Everyone likes being spun around when they're hugged, right?"

"... You know what? Fine. Just clean up when the inevitable happens."

"What do you mean, when what happens?"

Violet made an odd bubbling noise. Rosa looked at her pale, walleyed trainee, and understood. She dropped the girl and dived out of the way.

The inevitable happened, in a manner that would have been reminiscent of The Exorcist if anyone had made it in this universe.

"Wow... I think I'll go clean her up and tuck her in."

"She's earned it. Also, ew."

"Seconded."

"Blargl," blargled Violet, who didn't have very many conscious thoughts for a while thereafter.

Kaeti looked up, staring at the cloudless sky, but her gaze was broken by the sight of an ice dragon falling in the distance. She shook her head, not sure if what she was seeing was real or caused by her tiredness from the journey they had taken. Convinced that it was real, she poked Lief's arm and pointed at the dragon, who was still falling, struggling to right itself. "I wonder what it is falling from," Lief murmured as he searched the sky for the source of the dragon's plight. His eyes locked on to a pair flying high in the sky, a fire dragon and a bright blue, very small, elf-carrying dragon. "Up there!" Kaeti called, seeing the same thing the solemn elf was seeing. "We cannot do anything. We cannot fly," Lief said with a short laugh. All we can do is head to the Queen and hope that the problem resolves itself. Kaeti nodded, sad that they could not do anything to help, but resigned herself to that fact, forgetting about the ice dragon that had fallen into the forest.

((Tiffashy, remember that dragons can only spew fire :3 In the future, you could make different colors of fire maybe?))

Akari squealed in utter terror as a crimson dragon with dark menacing eyes surged towards Rasi. With a guttural roar, it spewed out a massive fireball headed straight for them. Rasi dove after emitting a squawk no dragon should be able to make and nearly made Akari's lush chocolate hair burst into flames. Akari screamed over the crackle of fire to Rasi, "Go to the lake! Dive for the lake!" The surface of the water's gleaming surface was straight below them, reflecting their image in its mirror like surface. Akari dared to catch a glimpse behind her and she saw the dragon drawing in air again for another fireball. Akari screamed louder until her throat was burning, "Rasi! NOW!"

Arie's hair whipped behind her in a sheet as she galloped, well, as much as an over-sized glorified chicken could 'gallop', to the port city of Selier, where she would stowaway on a boat to Connor's hometown of Cornaptu where he was heading unless her sources were mistaken. She still wasn't sure why she was going to help a human, who she had sworn to slaughter every last one of beforehand. Maybe it was part of her trying to fix all she had done. All she knew, was that Connor was a very important part of this planet's survival, whether he knew it or not. If the nomadic military wanted him dead, he had to be. Arie began wondering if he looked like the pictures she had seen of him before. She also began to wonder whether Connor would try to kill her on sight due to her heritage. She sighed, set her jaw, and continued galloping to her destination.

Talon sighed and continued walking Blitz at a leisurely pace down the forest path with Ejenra's reins tied to the back of his saddle, as the metallic creature wouldn't let him get anywhere close. Akari had ditched him, again. She was always up to some harebrained scheme that would undoubtedly get her in trouble. As usual. He just hoped she wouldn't get torn to pieces by the dragons up at that supposed floating fortress called Skulblaka. His thoughts wandered to her beautiful eyes that could swallow him whole in an instant without his hesitation. As his mind wandered however, he stopped paying attention and didn't realize until it was too late that he walked straight into an ambush of humans. As he was gagged, just before they put a particularly foul smelling sack on his head as he thrashed he realized who these people were by their insignias. Flaming jousting swords in melancholy shades of grey. Grey Lancers.

((Oopsie v.v I'll just pretand that they were blue fire breathing dragons or just plain blue dragons))

Rasi dived down like an arrow being shot by a bow. She could hear the wind rushing past her small dragon ears and Akari screaming so loudly that Rasi thought that she just gone deaf for a moment. The screaming elf was demanding to go into the water. Rasi thought that she must had been crazy! A small dragon? Go into the lake? But then she saw the red fireball passing her then she remembered that Akari had a point. Rasi folded her wings togheir and shot down at great speed towards the water. She closed her eyes at the last second and all she could remember was the black water in front of her. There was a loud SPLASH and she couldn't hear the elf screaming or yelling. She felt like everything just gone in slow motion, she opened her eyes and there was nothing but blackness. Unlike proper water, this water was black and dark...

The small dragon kicked hard, trying to escape to surface, but everything just felt so heavy and exhusting... she felt like giving up but her lungs were screaming inside of her, screaming for air. Rasi didn't wanted to give up now, she just gone so far and wanted to live on. So she kept on kicking wildly intill she felt the cold wind. She gasped loudly for air and her head sunk back into the water, then she threw herself back up, panting and breathing loudly. She looked up and it seemed that the red dragon which was chasing her was gone and it was going back to battle. She could still hear the faint screeches in the sky and the black shapes battling in the clouds.

Then she remembered something. Akari! She looked around, trying to find her elf friend, swinging and spinning around fast, creating small waves as she searched for her.

Akari took in a large gulp of air as she collided with the black surface of the lake like it was a concrete surface. The water swallowed her whole and she fell below the surface, kicking and thrashing with all her might. Then the cold of the lake hit her, seeming to chill even her soul. Then she felt something rush by her leg. It was covered in scales and fins. Akari's eyes widened as far as they could with her realization. They had been deep in the Ilgari Forest. They flew north, to Skulblaka. Straight north of their previous location was seawyrm lake. Akari remembered the tales of a vicious creature that could eat ships whole, and the dank lake it lived in. Then she also remembered that the cool touch of scales was the last thing people remembered before they... Akari stopped thrashing. She slowly swam towards the surface, calm and peaceful. She felt water currents rushing around her head as she bobbed above the water. "Rasi." She said with a panicked undertone in her voice. "Stop thrashing. NOW. Unless you want to be wyrm food, you need to stop panicking. This is seawyrm lake. There is an extremely large sea monster that can eat you whole down there. If you thrash, it will notice you more. This must be why the red dragon didn't follow us. Slowly swim towards the edge, because its only 20 yards away. Luckily we crashed close to it. Now go. Don't kick up any froth or bubbles, understand?"

***

Arie huddled in the small corner of the storage ship's hull, waiting for it to leave dock. She could hear water lapping up along the edges of the boat outside, lulling her into a trance. Arie felt her eyelids getting heavy, and her vision seemed to be covered in mist. Slowly, she let sleep consume her. Her dreams were not good ones. They were of Connor, being tortured by someone who looked of high command and seemingly...human? Arie awoke with a jolt in the ship. She was breathing hard, but let sleep take her again as it was of course, only a dream.

Talon found it hard to breathe under the burlap sack which they had tied to his head, and through the awful tasting rag they stuffed in his mouth. He was apparently on the back of some sort of car, bouncing and tumbling with every bump in the road, unable to keep himself steady with his ankles and wrists fastened tight with rough, scraping rope. Talon's mind wandered to escape plans, but he found none were possible. He had no idea where he was. He might already be in their camp for all he knew. Then he heard shouting, only able to make out bits and pieces like, "elf", "Violet", "Akari" "captor", and "interrogate". His heart multiplied its beating tenfold at the mention of Akari's name. What did they want with her? Did they have her captive here? Why was she of importance?

" Can we sleep yet? No. We just saw elves and I don't want us to be unwary. We'll sleep at the next camp or city we get to, which is about 5 minutes away or only a few meters away if you want to go through the docks. Plus we can't sleep in Punter since all of the materials." They rode Punter to a garage and put left it there. They walked through the docks and noticed a fish restaurant. " The only actually smart area. I think we should get some more info on the Grey Lancers. We can't have them on us." They entered and sat at a table. A rather dirty waitress walked up and gave Him a menu. ". Exactly how is this supposed to work? Well, we have to listen I'm here for the food. Me to. Fine. Plus three minds plus two ears is better."

Rasi was never used to lisen to orders, most of the time she was a free, silly dragon wondering around, looking for friends to play with and choices of her own. ""Rasi. Stop thrashing.

Obeying Akari's orders, she stopping swing and trashing her tail around and swam calmly. Trying not to make any bubbles, she carefully swam towards the shore.

"I don't believe it," she whispered, her eyes were still filled with shock and horror as she dogpaddle towards the shore. "The red and blue dragons decided to have war againest each other."

She shook her head sadly. The small dragon kept on paddleing intill she felt the peddles and dirt under her claws. She calmly tred on them, pushing herself forwards to the shore. Being careful not to create any bubbles as Akari told her to. Then all of the sudden, she felt something againest her small legs. She whimpered lowly and dog-paddle slightly more faster. She kept on swimming calmly untill she felt the peddles under her claws. Rasi pushed herself futher as she dug her claws into the peddles. She felt something long and slimely againest her back legs. Straight away she letted out a fearfull roar and bolted towards the shore creating lots of noise and splashes while she trashed around to the shore. She manage to get there unharmed but it felt like it took forever for Rasi to make it.

She arched her back like a cat, bouncing away from the water hissing lowly while panting, it was almost funny to watch Rasi act scared of the under water monsters. Then after a while, she finally relaxed. Lowering her back slowly and sitting down to take a rest. She didn't say anything for a while then she was like "something or someone caused those dragons to fight each other. Its got to be something importent like... maybe the red dragons joined another speices or something which angered the blue dragons?" She signed lowly. It was quiet clear that she didn't like about whats going on. Her own kin fighting each other wasn't something good or anything. Her ears jerked upwards. She thought she heard something rushing in the bushes. Her blue scales changed into pale green as she watched the bushes rattle.

Lief's horse strode toward the great, magestic castle in the center of the city. Cornick was breathing hard from the journey to the elf city, so she reassured him that they were almost there. When they came upon the huge gate into the castle, a guard asked them to state their business. However, as the guard looked down on them, suddenly he stared with shock at Lief. "Master!" he exclaimed, "I am sorry, I did not realize it was you. Please enter!" The grand gates opened wide, and Kaeti found herself staring at Lief, wondering who he really was.

Akari slowly tread behind Rasi as she swam towards shore, doing a dog paddle. Right before they reached the beach, Rasi yelped and thrashed around before jumping out of the water while hissing in an inhuman pitch. Then Akari felt something wrap around her leg as Rasi arched her back in fear. Akari managed to let out a yelp as she was dragged underwater, being pulled deeper and deeper by the clawed slimy hand. Akari struggled against it, but struggling made it hold tighter and was giving up her oxygen. She went limp, thinking of a scheme to get her out of this mess. Then it struck her. Literally. The scabbard of her sheathed sword smacked the side of her leg. Akari elt extremely stupid, forgetting about her sword. She drew it, and looked for a weak spot in the scales of the hand. Then she saw it. The bend of the second knuckle had one scale missing, probably from battle. Akari raised the sword over her head and stabbed down on the one inch diameter of exposed flesh. Purple liquid seeped from the hole she made, and the creature flinched just enough for Akari to kick her way free. She made a mad swim to the surface and barely crawled out on the beach when the creature surfaced behind her.

It was absolutely gargantuan and had the most grotesque features. It had large eyes, slit like a cat's that shone a murderous maroon with gold flecks scattered in the irises. It had large fins running down its whole serpentine back, black spines with golden membrane keeping them together. It had human-like hands that were gnarled and scarred from combat. Its arms were like tree trunks, with bulky muscle and veins that bulged from the skin. Its face was almost completely flat except for the bulging eyes. The only remnants of a nose were two holes of nostrils with a ring through them. Protruding from the forehead and twisting around the nape of its neck were twisted bumpy horns that were pure black in color. Its scales were dark grey, like the water.

Purple blood was still seeping from the wound in its hand, and it looked pissed.Akari whimpered and dashed towards Rasi while yelling "Prepare to takeoff as soon as I jump on! Hurry!" She was drenched head to toe with a mixture of sweat and water, and goosebumps were rising on her arms, and her hairs standing straight up, like arrows sticking out from a battlefield. She didn't dare look behind her but she knew the monster must be trying to slither out onto shore, as there was a huge roar of frustration that shattered the air around her. Akari had been in many bad situations, but none as bad as this. She wondered if she had a chance to survive. Then she leapt onto Rasi's back and clung onto her spines, which were now a sickening green of fear. Akari closed her eyes, and accepted that she might die.

Rasi instantly taken off as soon as she felt the elf clinging onto her spine, flapping her small wings as fast and wildly as she could. She never felt like this before. Panic and fear was overcoming her as she took off like a rocket with crazy wings sticking out of it. She heard the water serpent's eyes on her as it roared with anger. Rasi peered back behide and saw some men jumping out of the bushes wearing grey uniform. They quickly backed away from the water, trying to keep an eye on Rasi, Akari and the monster at once. Like all of the men she seen before, they didn't seem too friendly and carried the sharp, pointed thing which hurt which you get poked by one. Rasi didn't kept her focrus on them for a while until she saw them pulling out bows and arrows. That was also another thing that Rasi wanted to avoid. She kept on flying wildly, willing to get out of the range of the arrows. It wasn't long before they heard a low hiss whistling though the air. Then all of the sudden she felt a wave of pain though her rear leg. Rasi letted out a low roar of pain and her eyes watered. She wanted to stop and pull it out of her brown scales but then she saw another one zooming pass, missing her face by inches which was giving her a fair warning to keep on going. She kept on flapping her strong but small wings to fly herself out of danger. Her wings got heavy all of the sudden. Rasi was now having a hard time to fly and another wave of pain made her snap back into being focused on flying to safety. "Akari," panted Rasi. "I'm feeling so tired..." She felt like it was getting impossible to move her now heavy wings. They felt like they weighted a tonne or something. Rasi felt dizzy quickly, as well as getting tired. It was now as much as she feared it. The arrow was poisoned with something that was unknown to Rasi and the dragon shook her head dizzily and her flapping was moving slower and slower...

Akari's eyes widened in alarm as a green tipped arrow sunk shallowly into Rasi's leg. Akari grabbed her pack and pulled out various ointments. This looked like a sleeping remedy so they could capture Rasi. First she pulled out the arrow and quickly applied antiseptic pain reliever. Then she dug through her bag to find a remedy. She remembered that most sleeping agents were used with a certain plant that was easily counteracted with rose leaves. Akari packed a tube of paste made of the plant, as she thought it might come in handy because it was a natural remedy for many ailments. She quickly squeezed some out onto her hand and spread it onto a piece of dried meat and stuck it in Rasi's mouth. "Eat this. It'll counteract the depressant."

Rasi felt another wave of dizziness sweeping over her forehead, she felt like her wings just became stone. Then something dried up and disgusting entered her small mouth. "ugh," she moaned a little and was very temped to spit out the horriale taste. She knew that she had no choice but to trust Akari so she slowly tasted the meat and chewed it slowly. First it tasted like nothing then she could taste the horrible herbs drubbed on the meat. She paused in mid air because her wings were getting too hard to move them forward. But at least she can manage to fly so they wouldn't drop put of the sky and fall to their deaths. She chewed it slightly more faster and she could slowly feel the engery going back into her wings.

Then at least, Rasi shallowed the meat. She felt much better now. At last she had enough strengh to move on forwards even though her wings were still stone heavy. She flew onwards, wanting to disapear from the sight range of the grey men in uniform. Rasi looked back down in her eye cornor and the men were talking to each other, quiet surpised that the small dragon didn't drop out of the sky yet. She watched them mount their animals (She couldn't tell which animal since she is far away) and galloped after her and Akari. "When will these people give up?" she thought loudly to herself. This wasn't the best day of Rasi's life. But it was rather exciting and scarie at once. She never knew that one elf would change so much of her life. She turned her forucs back to see what was lurking in front of her as she flapped her wings once more lazily. "Are you okay?" she questioned the elf on her back. Rasi was pretty worried about Akari, she disliked seeing her friends getting hurt and there was nothing that Rasi could do about.

"Woah..." Rasi muttered as she felt another wave of dizziness hitting her. Pehaps the poison isn't completely gone yet? She thought to herself. But as least it wasn't as worst as last time. She could feel her wings getting over weighted and hard to flap, her body gone numb and everything felt like a dream. She couldn't hear the wind whipping past her ear and she felt her heavy eyelids dropping over her eyes. It was so hard for Rasi to fight herself to stay awake, half of her mind was telling her to take a break while the other half was screaming at her to stay awake so Akari and herself wouldn't get killed or worse. Now Rasi was praying that the meat that she aten would kick in and help her stay awake as her eyelid dropped half way past her eyes...

"Back-mounted Newcomen turbine within tolerances... auxiliary magnets powering up... induction fields at 1.7 T... coolants locked... targets designated... we're set!" Violet flicked her helmet's visor down and wrapped the ear defenders around her head. "Ace prototype ready for fire testing."

"Good," said Lauren, who promptly produced a beefy-looking rifle and shot her in the chest.

The bullets, which would be equivalent to .600-calibre rounds if an observer from Earth was watching and they knew far too much about guns, careened off of the overbuilt armour of the Advanced Combat Exoskeleton, or Ace unit, and embedded themselves in the walls. Lauren hurled herself behind cover, shoulder aching slightly from the recoil of the massive rounds, and there was a hum of electricity as Violet's suit returned fire.

Two long bars projected themselves from the suit's left forearm wrapped in blue energy. They formed the induction media for the rail rifle that had been worked on by the Grey Lancers' backroom staff for several years previously, as had the rest of the suit. Vi was just a monkey in a suit to them, a means to an end. A heavy-looking black cylinder dropped between the bars, levitated there for a split second, and sped off in a perfectly straight line, the carbon sloughing off as gas to reveal a white-hot tungsten bolt moving at nearly relativistic speeds. It smashed through the target, out the other side, through the wall and finally embedded itself in bedrock after going through several rooms. The heat the bullet gave off in flight was so intense that its passage had caused Rosa's fruit juice to boil.

"Um, I think I gave it too much power. Sorry. Dialling the Shanklin Inductors down to 1 T, going for rapid fire test."

Much of the previous paragraph's events happened again, only this time they were to a lesser degree and a lot more often. The bolts spread out in a standard Spray And Pray fashion, slightly haphazard but with the sheer power of the bolts blasting through heavily armoured ballistic gel and the reinforced masonry behind it. The magazine ran dry in just under eight seconds, one hundred and fifty-nine bullet holes having freshly appeared in the testing chamber.

Violet was bone-white as she clambered out of the suit.

"So... so loud... don't like..."

"Well, we know it works. How did the tolerances look?"

"Wha?"

Lauren composed herself and proceeded to let loose a true sergeant-major's shout. "HOW WERE THE TOLERANCES LOOKING?"

"Green... so loud..."

"Okay, Vi, you've earned a break. Rosa's doing waffles in the break room. C'mon, I'll lead you there." She took Violet's hand and smiled. The first time she'd held her hand, Violet had pulled away and moved fast enough to give even Vincent pause for thought. The reason, she'd found out later, was... unspeakable. Nowadays, she could put up with Rosa's hugs and her hand being held a little. It was like occupational therapy, really.

Lauren put a protective arm around the trainee Lancer. She jumped a little when Vi's arm crawled around her slowly as a bureaucracy's decision-making process, but then they'd smiled and walked on, taking comfort from each other.

((EDIT: Oh. I see. Considering how they work and what their numbers are, it's actually kinda funny that they'd do that. If he's there, they wouldn't just jam a bag on his head and bind his hands and feet with rope. No, they'd knock him properly unconscious first, because it's an absolute piece of cake to do that to a humanoid and I know this because I have spent the best part of seven years learning how. Besides, if elves are water and dragons are fire and plains nomads earth, humans are air, and with that comes lightning. tl;dr: They'd have either tased him or just flat-out shot the frigger in the face until he no longer had a face.))

Okay, fine. I'll type out something o.o))

I want to rest, I want to rest. Rasi thought to herself. No! Keep on flying, keep flying! But we arn't flying, you're just hovering above the ground.

Rasi eyes shot opened and looked below her. The long grass was reaching out towards her and it whipped at her claws when she came by. She wasn't in the sky anymore. I must had slept in, she thought to herself with annoyance. She tried to flap upwards but her wings were too heavy and weak from the poisoning. Instead of flying upwards, the small brown dragon lost balance and felt another wave of dizziness hitter her. Causing Rasi to crash into the ground. Dirt and peddles flew everywhere across the landscape, flying away from Rasi.

She moaned weakly and tried to get back up, her numb legs couldn't support her enough and she fell back down. Rasi thought that she can hear the men in grey riding towards them since she could hear them shouting at each other with commards. Rasi knew that these people should be avoided and it may be the best that Akari should stay away from them at all times. Who knows how dangerous they could be? No one shots a dragon with a arrow with poisoned tips without having a good reason.

"Run," she whispered at Akari. She didn't want to tell her twice. "Run!" she roared at her with an angry throne. She lashed her tail around and tried to get back up but sank back to her knees.
