Posted August 7, 2012 Doesn't an octopus technically not have a head? Since its beak is between its tentacles and all of its internal organs are in the, uh, non-tentacle part of its body. So that's not really that surprising. The fact that won the most useless math fact competition in a book series I read: In the English language, "forty" is the largest number with all of its letters in alphabetical order. Posted August 7, 2012 (edited) There is no correct plural of platypus. Commonly, simply platypus by itself is used as a plural, or platypi, though the ending of the latter is technically used incorrectly. The scientific plural is platypodes, but all are used interchnageably. The word atom comes from the Greek word atomos meaning uncuttable. Posted August 7, 2012 (edited) Thomas Edison, inventor of the light bulb, was afraid of the dark. And here's my random fact for the day: Thomas Edison was actually a swindler and bully who took most of the credit for inventions he had very little to do with. He'd buy the original patents and documentations from other inventors-- or just wait for them to die and steal them-- and used his wealth and power to pretty much do whatever he wanted. He was also a huge jerk =o ** Bonus fact! ** Now Nikola Tesla -- who historians cite as the most manly and awesome human to have ever existed-- is probably the sole reason everyone has a microwave to heat up hot-pockets with. He also played a part in the invention of radars and radios and was known to shoot lightning from his hands, but alas, hardly anyone knows of his name. Posted August 7, 2012 oh that's funny! it's totally there! the dollar is forever alone. when spent. Slugs have four noses. Honey does not spoil,. Mites are crustaceans About the honey: the only reason it does not spoil is because when bees collect the pollon from flowers, they go back to their respective hives regeritate the pollen, eat it again and regeritate once again to get it into honey. So basically, it's bee throw up Share this post Link to post

Posted August 7, 2012 (edited) About the honey: the only reason it does not spoil is because when bees collect the pollon from flowers, they go back to their respective hives regeritate the pollen, eat it again and regeritate once again to get it into honey. So basically, it's bee throw up Adjusting that a bit (If you don't mind ). The bees don't eat the pollen, that gets stuck to their body, mainly the 'baskets' on their hind legs. This enables pollen to be transported from flower to flower. The bees feed on the nectar in the flower, and their gut processes it into honey. Upon returning to the hive, the bees regurgitate the honey into the combs, storing it for later use. But then man came along and found out how to steal it Honey does not spoil because it is highly sugary - giving bees enough energy in a single feed to fly incredible distances. Sincere apologies about that, the entomologist in me just yearned to correct that :3 Edited August 7, 2012 by rampaging wyvern Share this post Link to post
