The Island of Hope

Nexote giggled, which came out as a series of high-pitched squeaks. Then she stared at Sapphire as she flew up to her nest to get something. She had no idea what the Seasonal hatchling said.

Nexote? Who? She thought. It took her a couple of minutes to figure out who 'Nexote' was. Apparently it was her, and what she'd be called. She stayed put and looked at her surroundings with amazement.

After she grabbed two plums, the last of the ones in her nest, Sapphire glided down to Nexote and handed the daydream a juicy plum. She then sat down on the ground and began to nibble on her own while sweeping the clearing of debris with her tail. At one point, the wood she swept fell into the ground, curious, Sapphire wondered what could cause this, she lifted all the debris out of the area to reveal a large hole in the shade of some fruit trees, only yards away from the nest. Sapphire pondered over the hole for a while before remembering what the hole was, it used to be a pool and nest area for the water dwelling dragon hatchlings, it had probably been drained of water by neglect and the hurricane pushing debris everywhere. The dragoness couldn't remember if there were any water dwelling dragon eggs in the Underground Cave, so she didn't she what she could use the large hole for anymore. She decided to think about the possibilities later and returned to the daydream newborn's side.

The egg wiggled, inside a small, light dragon knocked at the shell. Her confinement was growing to be a bit cramped, she was ready to come out! So far, the little wingless hatching had made many small cracks on the outside of her egg. Although her thoughts were not quite smoothed into words, she knew that she had to be close. This was the hardest thing that she had done in her short, short life after all!

Clawing and biting at the little hole she had made, the dragonlet stopped once there was a tiny hole from all of her efforts. Although her eyes had not yet opened, she could initially smell the unknown that she wanted to be a part of so badly. It had to be better than being here; so quiet and closed off. She could have sworn that she heard something out there, something moving. That was enough to keep her hacking, because she wanted to know others! Although the girl wasn't sure what she was yet, she knew that being alone wasn't the way she was supposed to live. There was supposed to be someone... someone that would take care of her.

A flicker of what she would one day know as happiness flared within her mind. That new feeling, that warm good feeling, she nibbled more at the little whole she had made. She wanted to be out!

Stirring and shuffling around in his sleep, the grey hatchling's eyes and paws trembled in fear. It was having another one of those nightmares, if they were even nightmares at all. It all seemed so real... as if he was there, had bared witness to it all before...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A grey, battle-bruised and scarred, bleeding heavily, barely standing on its feet, staring at its adversary, an equally injured dragon of unknown to him species. Harnessing the last of its energy, the grey conjured a lightning bolt from the sky, to strike its opponent dead across the skull. The enemy dragon let off a roar of anguish, and retaliated with a similar attack, sending unearthly fires at the grey. Where the grey sustained further harm from the attack, it refused to fall, where as something very terrible happened to its enemy. Letting off a shriek of pain, it burst into flames, and after an agonizing dozen or so seconds, collapsed.
The grey stared at the ground briefly, then with the last of its strength called out:
'ASTER!!! -he yelled, spiting out a lot of blood as he did, coughed several times violently, and collapsed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The dream ended in a flash of white light, and Ashur's eyes opened, as if he hadn't been asleep at all. Yawning widely, he put one paw on his scalp and wondered for a moment why he kept having these dreams... There was no explanation yet... sadly.

Sighing, he looked up at the skies and stayed put, for now.

((Thanks! How big is a newborn pygmy dragon compared to other hatchling? A lot smaller? or a little smaller?))

After waking from his long nap, the hatchling wiggled around in his tiny egg once more. He had learned to open his eyes himself the day he was sick and the "mint wind" healed him. Holding up his eye to the little hole he made the day before, he peeked out for the first time. Everything was so big! He leaned back, tipping the egg. There was another crack now and he head butted it. A larger hole opened up. he leaned back to admire his work.

That crack looks like a .... What DOES it look Like?

He yawned and curled up his tiny body into a ball. For sure, he would see his new family tommorrow.

((Cosidering I actually downsize dragons (or at least I think so) Sapphire is larger than an average human adult (considering she was frozen right before adulthood), the newborns are less than half her size, and a pygmy is probably a little bigger than half the size of one of the newborns.))

As the dragon inside the grey and blue egg chipped away at their egg, Sapphire simply watched with her calm blue gaze. Ashur had stirred to her right, but Sapphire simply sat in the middle of the clearing. Nexote had yet to react to the plum, and all was calm. The sun in the horizon was just starting to set, giving the blue sky a light peach hue. Time seemed to sit still as the hatchling looked around for materials for the hatchlings-to-be. All the pieces of wood that the hurricane had blown into the clearing had just all had been used. Sapphire decided that after a while she would go to the Sleeping Forest and salvage some wood off the trees that were dying from lack of sunlight.

((What does "To S: Dot NW" mean? And are pygmy hatchling very small?))

After a quick rest, he was up and at it again. Pounding at the wall with all his might. The hole widened even more. Then he got to a tough spot. No matter how hard he headbutted it, it would not crack.

What if I NEVER get out?

He opened his mouth to cry out. "Crack!" he croaked out, surprising himself with his voice. He strengthened it. "Crack out! Please!"

Wiggling around he tried pounding it with his tail. He squeaked out again. "Crack! Please!"

"Crack! Please!"

Sapphire angled her head towards her nest, where the little egg, which she called a pygmy egg, and the grey and blue egg were located. The pygmy egg had developed a hole, and the dragon inside was staring right at the other side of the egg. Using the duller side of her claw, Sapphire jabbed at the side of the hole, thus making it wide enough to bring in sunlight and allowing the little dragon crawl out if it chose to do so. "Hello in there, come out, the world outside may be big and scary, but there is much to explore and in wait. Little one, you shall be named Kyitei, welcome to the island full of hopes and dreams that will never give up." Sapphire stared warmly inside the egg as she said these words, she waited, perched on top of her nest for the egg to respond.

((Yay. Thanks, Would he be the size of a kitten? because mints are bigger and they are housecat sized.))

A claw came down on his egg and opened up his hole just wher he needed it.

"You will be named Kyitei." Sapphire was saying.

"K-kyi-Kyitei. Kyitei!" The word was new. He rolled it around a bit in his head.

So, that's who I am. Kyitei. I like it.

Kyitei scrambled over the edge of the egg. he was coated with some sort of slime and he rolled around the nest to scrape some off.

Looking around, he saw so much. Inside, he found he knew what some things were already. He also saw other hatchlings clustered around too.

"S-Sapphire?" Kyitei's stomach rumbled. "Can I eat?"

((Yeah, probably))

"Yes little one." Sapphire responded. She flew over to a tree and picked a couple of cherries and gave the two to the hatchling. Kyitei was no bigger than a large mouse, Sapphire reckoned, the nest she had made for him was a perfect size for him. The sky had become a warm pink color with streaks of blue as the waves of the ocean reflected its brilliance onto the beach. Tomorrow, Sapphire promised herself I'll go to the beach in my free time and relax.

Tashrin has fallen asleep but woke up after a bit. He looked around in the nest. It was nice. He purred a bit then slowly got up and looked over the edge. Now that he was not in that same spot from before everything had a new look to it. He looked around with wide eye's. He saw a few new things and stared at them with wide eye's.

After a good thirty or so minutes of motionlessly sitting there and listening for sounds, Ashur left his little nest and headed off into the yet unexplored for him. trotting along at a hatchling's pace, he watched and enjoyed as birds flew by and insects buzzed around. Oh yes, life outside the egg was great indeed. Chirping happily, it trotted onwards in the direction towards the shoreline, remembering the way back as he went on.

Tashrin was starting to get hungry though not knowing it yet. He spotted a butter fly and watched hi fly around. His eye's just got wider and he started to follow it up the branch of the tree. The butter fly landed and he slowly and carefully went up to it. It flew off startling him making the branch shake a bit making him lose his balance and he swung upside down. He clung on for dear life and let out a scared squeak.

((Tashrin knows his numbers up to eight and knows that falling will kill him, but he still doesn't understand the concept of being hungry...lol))

A yowl behind her caused Sapphire to loose focus on the pygmy dragon and have a magi hatchling clinging on to a branch for precious life presented to her. She sighed and flew over to gently drop Tashrin to the ground. "Don't wonder off young Tashrin, beyond the clearing lies unnamed threats." As she said 'threats' Sapphire stretch out her wings to show how menacing the outside forests could be.

Tashrin relaxed when he was placed on the ground. Then when Sapphire told him not to wonder and used her wings to demonstrate what she was saying he backed up a little. But he was understanding what she was saying. {Don't go after moving things stay put.} or something like that went through his head. He nodded his head eye's still wide though. Then a hatchling sized rumble came from his stomach.

Nexote stared at the plum, and took a small sniff. The plum smelled nice. She prodded the fruit with her snout, trying to know what it was. As she thought about it, she suddenly had a strange feeling in her stomach. It growled and felt...empty. It wanted something, but she didn't know what. Suddenly, Nexote took a bite at the plum. The odd feeling went away a little bit after a moment. The daydream took another, and another bite at the fruit. The more she did so, the less of the feeling remained. Soon, she finished the plum.

Bad feeling in my stomach go away if I bite purple thing. She thought.

Noticing the rumbling of the hatchling's stomach, Sapphire wrapped her tail around a pear of a nearby tree and pulled it off. She held the fruit in front of the hatchling. "This is a pear, you can eat this too." Sapphire then handed the pear to the hatchling to eat. Soon she would be able to go out and bring the hatchlings other foods like coconuts and a few fish seasoned with herbs from the magi garden. The dragoness sighed at the fact that the animals as well as the flora that inhabited the island had survived.

As Sapphire held the pear in front of her and said "This is a pear, you can eat this too" ,Nexote took the pear from the Seasonal gently, and gave a small squeak of thanks. She took a bite of it as well, and let the juice run down the side of her mouth. It felt refreshing. Nexote gorged herself on the pear. When the pear was finished, the daydream let out a small burp.

Kyitei watched was Sapphire pulled two round red things off a thick branch for him to eat. The sky was pink and with some effort, he picked them up and held them in the light.

"Pretty!" He exclaimed. They smelled sweet like the air around him. He took a small bite. Pinky-red water dripped out of it and down his chin. He licked it up eagerly. "Sweet sweet!" He called out.

Distracted by a shriek, Sapphire had left to rescue another magi hatchling. she said something and spread her wings. Wings! Oh, her wings were so magical! Kyitei imagined spreading his own wings. Standing up on his hind legs, he pushed out his back, only to fall down.

"No wings." He concluded. He took another bit of the fruit. Some of it splashed onto a bit of bark in his nest. An idea formed in his head.

Kyitei stuck his claw into the fruit and splattered it onto the bark. It made such a pretty bubbly design!

Laughing, he squeezed out more juice and tried to paint Sapphire in the middle of the dots. Then he made the dots into the other hatchlings and put himself on top.

"Kyahaha!" He laughed at the odd impressions. "We're made of Juice!"

(( He talking already?))

Tashrin looked at the pear and once again took a small nip to test it. Juicy, He took another bite and his noes got wet. His noes felt sticky but the fruit tasted good. He took anther bite making the mistake of breathing in when his noes was in the pear and he sneezed the first time. He kept eating though. When he was done all there was was the top of the pear. That part did not taste to good. He looked around for where to put it. Mom but bad part in ground.... does this go in ground? He thought. He began digging his own hole then put it in then put the dirt over it and sat on it.

So much noise! Noise that was coming from the things outside. The little dragon wiggled in her egg, wanting desperately to get out. She wanted to see what the noise was coming from, wanted to figure out whether her noises sounded the same. Tilting her head the hatchling tried her hardest to make a little noise; and found out that they came from her throat too! She nibbled at the hole in her egg, and when it was close enough she scratched at it with her claws. Yes! She was so close to freeing herself, it wouldn't be long now before she was outside! The excitement gave her strength to keep pushing herself to bite and claw; and it wasn't long before she had placed so much weight on the side of her egg where the hole was, she tipped!

"Eee!" The squeal could be heard out of the egg moments before it hit the ground. Shaken, but not hurt, the little girl nibbled at the hole, scraping the pieces that had cracked and loosened. She could almost fit now! "Eeaaa!" She squeaked, peeking her head and neck out of the egg, her claws hanging out; but her chest was just a touch too broad to fit out of the hole. Her eyes trembled a moment, but didn't yet open. "Prrrr?" The noise was a mixture between a click and a purr, a questioning sound, because the world around her was so much different.

((Time for a wall of text.))

Everything seemed so vivid to the newborn... so much to see, but no way to describe it... For some reason, the island landscape felt unnatural for Ashur, almost like he was unused to it, somehow. Nevertheless, the trot across the shoreline was a delight, save for the annoying seagulls that kept making that horrid noise Ashur disliked for no real reason what so ever.

Son enough, he reached the Sunset Rocks. Glancing between them, their sheer peaks, they seem ginormous to the small hatchling... Mountain-sized, almost...

Everything went white, and Ashur flashed out again.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He was looking through the eyes of the same grey from before, standing atop the highest tower of a strange structure with thin walling and rectangular design. The floors below were covered in blood and stank of burned flesh.
There were fires every here and there where there was something flammable to burn.
Glancing down at the floor, Ashur noted the grey had sustained a great many injuries, and was covered in blood, both his own, and human blood. Unable to control the grey's legs, Ashur simply observed in complete confusion, wondering where this flashback will take him next.
Suddenly, he felt an overwhelming desire to rear up, and roar at the top of his voice, and so he did, against his own will. The sound resonated, thundering through the decimated human fort, spreading out to who-knows how far.
Then, he heard a voice...
'It's over, isn't it? Are you satisfied? Has your thirst for vengeance been sated, dragon? -the voice seemed so oddly familiar, so very familiar but Ashur could not explain how... He shot around and locked eyes with a robed man with a hood, holding a staff.
'You may have dealt our kind a painful blow today, but we will live on... you however, will be judged some day... and your suffering may very well be eternal. So... finish it... -the man said calmly, ad dropped his only emans of defense, the staff.
'Gladly! -the grey snarled, against Ashur's will, and snapped the human up, chomped it down. It tasted terrible, as the blood and other fluids covered his throat. Swallowing heavily, the grey grinned madly, unfolded its wings, and just before it took off, everything flashed away again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ashur found himself in the same exact position he was before he'd tranced off, standing still, upright, staring at the rock peeks. he remembered things now... more things, things that just didn't make sense...

'What, that... is what? -he struggled to ask himself what he'd just seen, without realizing he'd learned several new words from nowhere. Perhaps, a tiny fragment of unlocked knowledge.

Driven by curiosity, he walked onwards, looking to see if something else will trigger another episode.

((I've had someone jump straight into formal English o3o))

((A long as it's only in the past/dreams, I'm fine with humans...))

As the hatchlings entertained themselves, Sapphire decided to sit down under the dappled shade of a tree. Kyitei was making paintings out of cherries and the others were eating. Ashur had ventured off again, but Sapphire let the storm be, he seemed like a loner and enjoyed it. The egg in her nest was making some purring sounds, but it still seemed a bit early for the dragon inside to hatch, all was peaceful at the moment.

((It is, and very complicated. Ill explain as this goes on. xd.png *writing*))

'What... -the hatchling repeated to itself again and again, as it walked between and around the sheer stones on the shoreline.

It skipped over a few rocks, and looked for anything that seemed interesting. perhaps a burrow, or something shiny? Anything he hadn't seen before...

A good ten or so minutes later, the hatchling's patience well had dried up long ago.

It sighed sadly and turned about, heading back towards the others. Dragging his feet, along the way...

*thump* the hatchling fell. It'd tripped over something in the ground, getting up and shaking off the sand from his nose, he looked at the thing he'd tripped on. It was just a stone, but for seemingly no reason, Ashur felt compelled to try and pry it from the ground.

It wasn't difficult, considering it was stuck in sand. Once the rock was out of the ground, he looked it over and couldn't help but note the sparkles the small salt crystals formed on the bottom gave off... So, familiar, somehow...

Feeling dizzy once more, Ashur struggled to keep the flashback at bay, and barely managed to keep his cool, clearing his mind, he dropped the stone, and dashed back towards the others. He'd had enough of remembering for one day.

Spotting the seasonal from before, in the distance, the grey scurried over to her and nudged her with one paw, trying to look as innocent as possible.
