Username: Mangaholic

Name: Hero [The e has a short sound, so the name would pronounced the way an Asian would pronounce it. xP]

Age: 217

Gender: Female

Species: Amphiptere

Element: Water

Diet: As a river-dwelling creature, Hero typically preys upon those creatures that share her home—fish, turtles, caimans, even the occasional anaconda if she feels like it. She always preferred the giant turtles, however, finding them to be a delicacy above all else. Every once in a while, she’ll add the hapless bird or bat to her menu, but those winged creatures are barely a mouthful—too small to be worth her while.

Abilities: As expected of a water dragon, Hero is extremely swift and agile when it comes to swimming—capable of traveling up to and sustaining a speed of seventy miles per hour. Less expected, she is also a good flier, though nowhere near as adept as an air dragon. She has never flown an altitude that comes anywhere near that of the air dragons. Living in the tropics, she has nigh on no skill with wielding ice; however, she can easily summon fog and large clouds of mist at her will and use such things to either blind her foe or make a quick getaway.

Special Ability: Hero is a master of illusions. Should she wish, she can even cause her foe to lose his/her mind, though such a feat would require that the foe in question possess a sane mind in the first place. Her eyes are capable of hypnotizing anyone—unless that anyone were blind—and cause them to see things—terrifying things, perhaps, or happy things. Whatever she chooses. The mist she summons also plays a part in her weaving of illusions. In fact, it is the one thing that her enemies should be most wary of, because it is oh so simple for her to snare them in the trappings of her illusions—or are they really reality? Who knows? One can never know when one is up against Hero. Illusions and reality seem meshed together into a single entity—one that can potentially subject you to some serious mental torture.

Description: Like most amphipteres, Hero resembles a winged sea serpent. Her long, thick body, with a length of thirty-six feet and a girth of fifty-one inches, is covered in scales that, in the cloak of darkness, are dull and pale gray, clear but not clear, like the fog on a cold, winter morning. However, in the sunlight, her serpentine body is like the mist she so easily commands, shimmering and reflecting every wave of light so that she appears as a rainbow. Her wings add to this radiant spectacle. Like the wings of a quetzal, they are covered in brilliantly coloured feathers, azure blue and turquoise green. The undersides of her wings are light blue, like that of the sky, so as not to make her so conspicuous against in the sky. One may wonder why she does not worry about how her brightly color wings will affect her camouflage when swimming, but the water is her domain, she would answer, and she has nothing to fear there. These wings of hers are waterproofed, not becoming laden with water at any point in time, and will press tightly against her body when she is swimming, so as not to hinder her speed in any way. At the end of her body is a long steering tail, very much like a rudder. This is webbed, but is of the same colour as her scales.

Her eyes are of an even stranger colour than the rest of her already strangely coloured body: they are dark violet, almost completely black in the darkness. However, when Hero is entrancing her victim with these peculiar eyes of hers, the victim sees none of these dark violet—only the illusion that Hero wishes that victim to see. It is best, then, to make sure one never makes full eye contact with her for more than a few seconds.

Personality:Hero is what one could call shy, though shy isn’t exactly the correct word. She would much rather spend her time frolicking in the river by herself or with her younger sister than in the company of strangers, or near-strangers. She’s not good with words—that was the talent of her sister. She would much rather stand by and listen to a debate than offer her input into it. The only time she ever will do the latter is if she asked directly or if she has an idea that she is certain no one will deny. Otherwise, she’ll keep mostly to herself. One could call it social awkwardness. It’s more of a polite aloofness. Because she has spent most of her life away from the company of all dragons save for her family, she has not much experience with dealing with others and so finds it easier to simply stay quiet so as to not risk offending the other. She does not shun company, nor does she seek it.

Having not much exposure to disappointment and all those other things that come in the bundle of the company of others, Hero can be a bit more optimistic than the average dragon. Maybe even a lot more. She’s naïve and gullible, not knowing the little tricks the real world has to offer. And when those tricks do hit her, it’s likely that she’ll lose all her trust in the real world almost immediately. It doesn’t help that she’s easily hurt, even if she doesn’t show it. For now, however, before this has a chance to occur, she’ll be unfailingly loyal to anyone who joins her company, expecting the others to be absolutely the same.

History: Hero spent all of her 217 years of life on one of the minor islands, an island most dragons do not know and do not care to know of. As such, she has rarely, if ever, made contact with a dragon not of her blood. She grew up in a thick rain forest, one almost always subject to warm, heavy bouts of rain. She was never confined to the river: she was known to wander through the entirety of the forest with her younger sister, Namina. Their parents did not mind so much. The island was home only to a single dragon family—that being theirs—and they were certain that there was no other animal on the island that could do them harm. A decade or two after Hero and her sister had hatched, their mother passed away, seemingly from illness. There was nothing they could do about it, save to sit and watch and hope to ease their mother’s passing. Shortly after the death, their father just left. After his brief farewell, they never heard or saw from him again. To this day, Hero still has no idea how her father fares.

Life went on in much the same way. At first, it was lonely. The two sisters, now left with only each other, felt as if half their world had been ripped away. However, the feeling slowly ebbed away, and they put the departure of their parents to the back of their hearts, where it would resurface occasionally but not so much to do their minds harm.

Hero, being ever the more wary one, had been the first to realize that something was wrong with the sun. It all happened so slowly, so sluggishly, Hero wondered herself if it were simply an illusion. But it wasn’t, and soon, even Namina began to notice. It was obvious that something evil was stirring, and with only each other, the two sisters couldn’t help but feel a bit frightened. However, having never been in contact with any other dragon, any other real problems, it seemed to them that the total eclipse of the sun was something impossible, something that would revert itself back to right before it was completed. They gradually forced themselves to stop worrying about it, though the thought of an entirely dark world still haunted them in their sleep.

Then came the day when Namina suddenly disappeared. One day, she was there, the next, she was not. Somehow, Hero knew for certain that her sister’s disappearance was tied in with the ominous eclipse. It was not long afterward that she received a dream far different from her previous nightmares, one of light, of desperation, of a burning, burning hope that she could not deny in the end.

After 5-10min (depending on chemistry) the solution is ready to be measured

Sample throughput around 1 per minute, perhaps for 4 different chemistries (i.e. 4 data points per minute).

hummm... revision if fun!
