IOU - Breeding Promises

During Halloween last year, in my crazy state of mind of collecting Black Marrows, I made a few (not! a lot) breeding promises/IOU. I have managed to pay off some of them but is still greatly in debt over some. In my right mind, I wouldn't have amassed such a collection of IOUs of course.

 

I see that many players do take IOUs or give out breeding promises. How often do you do it (if you do it at all) and have you pay off your debts yet? I still have a long way to go to be debt free which makes me question if I should ever make a breeding promise again. (Darn those Black Marrows! LOL).

I do make and do take IOUs. my scroll is not that rich, so I never get eh... overburden with too many IOUs. and I have never been frauded by people who promised to breed something for me (luckily!)

I would make IOU trades with persons I knew a bit from the forum (no new people) it is a risc in my eyes to make IOU trades, you never know if you can trust a person. I had luck with my trades but I`m always afraid when I don`t know the person well if I ever will see my promised egg (or hatchie).

 

I made an IOU art trade (I had to breed and Thunder and an Silver egg from my Scroll) , I was able to breed them fast (faster as normal, I always had problems breeding my rares). I really don`t feel well when I know that there is a person who still wait for an egg you promised, but I was happy when I was able to give both eggs.

I don't have anything that anyone really wants, so i've never IOUed. I have, however, promised to breed holiday dragons to people who don't have them. And then I realized that they all came on the site at different times and thus, I couldn't give them all holidays. *facepalm*

But, they all got lucky and found ones on the AP.

I have only recently made my first breeding promise, which I should be able to fulfill tonight once some hatchies grow up. I never considered my scroll to have anything interesting that someone else would want, but I would be willing to do future breeding promises, provided of course my dragons cooperate.

That's a very good point, making sure that you only take IOU's from trustworthy members. And one should really be caution especially around the holidays where a majority of IOU/Breeding promises are made. However, I haven't heard anything negative from those breeding promises so far, so it's good to know we have good eggs and not rotten ones in our community.

 

I am glad members trust me enough and I feel really bad to have them wait for months for a promised egg.

I frequently take IOUs. It's very convenient if you want to trade for something that can be bred but might not be in circulation right at the time when you have something to offer on the trade. I think I've only had one case of people never fullfilling their IOUs (maybe some I have forgotten, lols ) - it seems mostly people are concious about living up to what they promise.

It may have happened sometimes. But it's nothing I do all too often. I've done some IOUs with a friend of mine, I've promised her offsprings from quite many of mine dragons (the only problem is that they never produces the right breed for her) and that I'll give her the next alt black I get, and she has promised me offsprings from some of her dragons. So I guess we'll be working on our promises for quite a while since mine dragons don't like to produce the right eggs... x'd

yes, I will promise anything I can do. I enjoy giftng dragons to those who joined years later then I did and helping them get holidays that they otherwise would never get. I would love a iou of a holly for mysef, but realisticaly I know its not going to happen :/

I would take IOUs and I would give IOUs. I have some IOUs standing were I owe people something - was able to fullfill at least one IOU/Breeding request recently, which I'm glad of.

I had, however, some weird cases - two eggs promised to me but never reached me, and one trade were I pm'd my offer, including 2 IOUs, and the other one never answered if he was interested in those IOUs, just told me I should get me my silver I was trading for^^ I hold myself pledged to those IOUs however and will try to fullfill them.

I do make IOUs but try too keep them to a reasonable number, only one outstanding at the moment because we decided to breed to another gen-( to our mutual benefit)

Breeding is so iffy these days,I always warn the future recipient that it may take time- so far I have been lucky and have been able to fill my IOU's relatively quickly

 

I try not to bug those that I have asked for eggs from because I know how finicky dragons can be( especially since I want very specific results)

 

I NEVER give promises for "next year" from my holiday dragons

I try to fulfill IOU's withing a week or so of when I promised them (it's usually ER hatchies, not a specifically bred egg).

 

As to holidays, I've never IOU'd for them or with them. Mostly because they take forever to breed in season. So I suppose if I did IOU with them, and they didn't breed (0 eggs) I'd just consider the deal complete cause I really wouldn't want to wait around again

Well, I think I have never done an iou mainly because I've never been offered one nor have I in turn offered one.

But if I had the opportunity to, I don't think I would just because I don't trust my dragons as much to give me what I want in a timely order and because I'm forgetful and passive. :s

I give away breeding promises for my rares to my friends, but generally not to random people. I've been able to fulfill most of them, and I usually keep my lists down to 2/3 people. Just checked all my lists-- I only have 5 requests going total, mostly for holidays.

 

I did once trade for a Holly IOU, which turned out fine, but that's the only IOU I can think of that I've taken off the top of my head. If you offered me a Prize Dragon IOU for something I had (Or an IOU of mine ), I would probably take it.

I'll make IOUs for anything I think I can get in two weeks. Since my cave-catching abilities are nonexistent, that's mostly consistent common pairs (such as the Thuweds) and bred metals, 3rd gen and up.

 

As for taking - I'll take ER hatchling IOUs, common breeding pair IOUs, and uncommon IOUs, but unless someone has at least 7 pairs capable of breeding what they're offering me (such as 7 cb metals they are willing to devote to trying for a 2nd gen for me), I won't take IOUs for rares. I definitely wouldn't take one for holidays either, as every holiday there are some people whose dragons don't produce anything.

 

Most of them have been paid off :3 There are two or so people who owe me ERs from since September, though, and are never online to ask. There are also a few people who don't seem to consider timeliness an issue and have also owed me for months without showing any sign of trying.

I do IOU trading. I have always attempted to make good on promises, but sometimes it takes a bit of time to follow through if the dragon is rarer. I have hardly ever been disappointed by other players, since most want to be able to trade with you again, so it is in their best interest to be honest. My biggest problem is my own memory. I keep notes, but don't always have my notebook at the computer I am using, so I have missed one here or there without meaning to. Typically folks will send a polite prod, as they should, if a promised trade seems to be taking too long in completion. I will trust anyone once. Sometimes things happen, and they can't come through, or like I sometimes do, they forget. If they just talk to me about it, I am always fine with it, stuff isn't always in our control.

 

HOWEVER, if it is clear they messed with me on purpose, and took something with no intent to follow through, they go on a black list from which they will never recover grace in my eyes.

I have made IOUs mainly for friends who need rares and such but I normally forget to poke people who offered to breed for me.

I did once take an IOU of a Holly for this year for my black marrows, one of which was LIT. I never saw/heard from them again. It made me ever so sad, and kiddies, watch out. There are people who you cant trust in this world.

At least one of my friends will breed me a 2nd gen marrow

I offer IOUs, but I don't trade that often. Since IOUs are often for metallics, NDs or Holiday dragons, I haven't traded for one yet. However, I would accept them.

Simple answer: No.

I never take or give IOUs.

 

Granted, I'll offer to try out certain pairings (or for a certain species) for people, but that's always for free, and neither party is in "debt".

Nope :\ I don't make and usually don't take IOU's either. It's just such an unpredictable promise. You never know if you can trust the person or whether they'll answer when you message them.. or sometimes both people who make the IOU's forget.... or the people just cheat you :\.. To be honest I think around 60% of the IOU's made don't really happen because of the reasons mentioned above. It would just create unnecessary debt and it would make me feel guilty so I try to refrain.
