Fandom!

Recommended Posts

I'm actually writing a fanfiction right now... about One Direction *cough* and I love reading them. Yes, I'm part of the One Direction Fandom, and honestly, I hate this fandom most of the time. A lot of the fanfictions go too far with what they talk about(Not going into detail on that.) and the boys sometimes read it, making the relationships they have with eachother awkward. A lot of the people are so... Selfish and think that they can have the boys all to themselves, or think that insulting them will get their attention on Twitter and stuff. I'm sure that they read most of their mentions, and some of the stuff people write is just weird... /EndSmallRant

As for shipping, yes, I'm a victim of that. I mean, come on, who doesn't want to be shipped with someone from your favorite movie/band/etc.? And who doesn't want to ship other people with them(Like other celebrities and such)?

My main fandom is Homestuck, closely followed by Adventure Time. Pretty much the only thing I do is squeal over them on Tumblr and cosplay...Not incredibly artsy, so I read fanfics but I'll probably never write one and the closest thing I'll get to fanart is some quick Nepeta doodles on my homework or some attempted fantroll arts, hehe.

Oh, and shipping. Don't get me started on shipping. I have so many OTP's I can't even--

Hmm I used to write a lot of X-Files fanfiction, but now my main fandom is SG-1.

Yes I do occasionally ship Sam/Jack in my fics, but I try to keep it canon because of all the regs the military have about relationships.

I have got an AU Dr. Who-based story in progress... as well as about 5 SG-1 I need to finish....

I need a kick up the proverbial to get the writing moving again xd.png

I enjoy and write fanfic, although I am not tied to any single fandom. I started writing it back around 2002. I do ship sometimes, but don't have any particular pairings that are my favorite.

Anyway, my fandoms include: Earth's Children (Clan of the Cave Bear, etc.), Dead Poets Society, Phantom of the Opera (movie version), and Harry Potter. I keep toying with the idea of a Valdemar fic, but I don't want to start one just yet, as I have other projects in progress at the moment. I tend to write fairly long multichapter fics, although I do have a single one-shot out there based on a Mercedes Lackey song that I like.

Currently, Homestuck, My Little Pony, Pokemon, Die Anstalt.

I dislike most of the Homestuck fandom because a lot of the people in it have a tendency to be not very considerate towards people who don't care for Homestuck, and also they have a tendency to horribly mischaracterize EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER, especially my favorite one. It's like they don't even bother to read the interactions between characters and instead make up entirely new, completely stupid personalities for every single one of them based on a couple traits they found by skimming or hearing it from other people in the fandom. Also, they pretty much chased one of my favorite artists out of the fandom by being really really rude and horrible. On the flip side, though, there's a lot of really nice, creative people within that particular fandom and I definitely appreciate that side of it.

I don't quite observe the MLP fandom quite as much, but judging by the impression that some people seem to get from them they seem to have a pretty intense annoying side as well. Still, again, neat creative stuff.

Jesus christ don't get me started on the Pokemon fandom, they are constantly insisting that Nintendo is "RUNNING OUT OF IDEAS" and yet they WANT THE SAME THING EVERY TIME. MORE FOXES AND KEWL PLATED DRAGONS AND A "REEL" WOOF. And god forbid anyone have a different opinion because if they do they're stupid and it must be pointed out that "I HATE THAT POKEMON THOUGH".

The Die Anstalt fandom is really really small and everyone I've noticed in it seems nice.

I like the creative sides and the nice people in all my fandoms but all but the latter seem to be filled to the brim with jerks.

I don't really read fanfiction. Sometimes I do if it's short, but I don't really get into it at all.

I do ship though :B

I have long ago come to the conclusion that I much more enjoy being a fan than being part of a fandom.

People get so worked up over the most ridiculous nonsense and I don't enjoy being surrounded by a bunch of bitter hypocrites, nor by people who seem to have lost touch with reality.

I sometimes read fanfictions, but I even avoid the author's notes for fear of having something I love ruined for me.

My Little Pony, definitely.

I sorta have mixed feelings about the fandom. Some of the members are smart. They know how to deal with trolls correctly and I want to be like those people. But then there are the jerks who make us look bad. It makes me sad to go on YouTube and see fellow bronies say stuff like "OMG STUPID TROLL UR JUST 2 STUPID 2 APRCIAT MLP BLABLAHBLAH". I was once told to shut up for saying I look forward to reading their new fanfic ._.

I don't care WHAT you say, I am a proud brony and I DO NOT like shipping, porn or Rule 34. sorryaboutthatjustwantedtomakesureeveryoneheardme It just seems awkward, if not gross to see ponies kissing and being horny in a show where ponies tend to be, at most good friends with one another (not counting Cadance/Shining Armor's wedding). Romance has never been my taste and kissing and cuddling for the sake of whocaresIsuredont really doesn't appeal to me.

I do occasionally read fanfiction, but usually comedy/sad ones. Occasionally serious ones, but they have to be really good. I have written a few but they suck and the only one that doesn't is "crappyoccoloringgoestopinkiecupcakesbloodgorewingsfriendshappysaneagainiforgiveyouforkillingmillions". I dunno, but people liked that one.

I do enjoy drawing My Little Ponies, I'm told I'm very good at it. smile.gif

I am also a furry. Please refer to the sentence with the bold letters before you damn me to hell. Thank you.

I prefer to draw my characters as animals thank you very much- unless you prefer crappy stick figures to adorable cartoony kittens. I give them some human attributes, but hair (on their head dry.gif) is as far as I go.

Oh wow. This is basically my life. I write fanfiction for Dragon Ball Z, Cirque du Freak, and some randomness that is anime and manga. I ship characters I feel are suited to shipping, but like the poster before me (Dracoscar), I don't think ponies should be shipped, or some other animals.

Some of my favorite ships are yaoi, and shipping is actually quite entertaining for fangirls like me. (Yes, I label myself a fangirl). Hetalia is also one of my ship-fests, especially for slash. There just aren't enough females to go around. In there however, I prefer Seychelles x Italy. Canon pairings are also my thing, like in DBZ with Gohan and Videl.

However, I do know that shipping can go waay overboard, past fanart and into M-rated fanfictions. That's a bit much, I dislike those who do that.

Out of curiosity, why do you dislike those who choose to write M-rated fanfictions?

Do you just personally object to reading explicit material? Or is it that you feel that fanfic writers ought to maintain the rating level of the original material? (I'm not personally familiar with any of your fandoms, but using Harry Potter as an example, since the series was written for children/young adults, you feel that anything besides a few exchanged kisses would be going too far.)

And if it's the second, what about when the original works already contain explicit material? If the original author wrote books that would be considered M-rated, do you still see a problem with fanfic writers also including M-rated material?

Though there are a lot of shows/book/manga/the like that I enjoy, I'm iffy about joining a fandom. Due to my tendency to gravitate to ships that have a darker/conflicted past, I often find myself enjoying pairings that are considered by the masses as 'horrible'.

Ships such as Nnoitra/Neliel (Bleach), Sasuke/Karin (Naruto), Dave/Kurt (Glee), Jesse/Rachel (Glee), Rudy 3/Jess (Misfits), Mai/Zuko (A;TLA), Murtagh/Nasuada (The Inheritance Trilogy), Draco/Hermione (Harry Potter), Heymitch/Effie (THG), Conrad/Doc Worth (HiNaBN), Hikaru/Haruhi (OHSHC), Terra/Beast Boy (Teen Titans) happen to get me in trouble when I express my love for them. I can understand a lot of the hate for most of these ships as people have an emotional connection or a similar experience, but it's something I find people take far too seriously. I ship because I enjoy the dynamics and connection between the couples. Other people ship for the same reasons, only with different pairings. We read situations differently and are attracted to different things.

There are ships that I don't like, but I have plenty of friends who do ship them. It's something we can get over, discuss, and appreciate. But, according to some of the more hardcore 'fans', that's impossible. Apparently if you like a show, you can only befriend people who like the same couples in it that you do :/

So, I like to scratch the surface of a fandom to the point where I can enjoy it, but I can't delve too far into it if I don't want my interests to be attacked. It's sad seeing as we should be able to enjoy it.

That being said, I do enjoy some popular pairings. Bubblegum/Mareline (Adventure Time), Ichigo/Orihime (Bleach), Naruto/Hinata (Naruto), Nathan/Kelly (Misfits), Rogue/Gambit (X-Men), ships that are considered 'acceptable' to a fandom. Even then, you still get criticism for being too obvious and only liking 'shallow' pairing because they're popular. No matter what ship you like, you're going to be judged for your choice. There's no way to make a whole fandom happy.

In the Glee fandom, I find Kurtofsky Pirates and Klaine Trainers are often at each others' throats. Yet I met someone through the fandom who was a Klainer, and she's one of the most awesome people I've met. Really, when I meet someone who enjoys the show I like, what they ship isn't exactly the most important thing to me. If you like a show, awesome! I do too! Shipping isn't the center of every story. Everyone gets so worked up with ships that I think they forget these are fictional people.

I don't ship Ronmione, but I'm not going to chuck a hissy fit because it happened. I'll go to fanfiction to get my Dramione/Krumione fix instead. I can still enjoy the book/movie for what it is.

I do ship Maiko/Kataang, and it's canon, but I'm not going to force it down the throats of everyone who ships something else.

What's canon and not canon doesn't make one ship more 'right' than the other.

As for shipping animal like creatures, I see nothing wrong with it. I don't like or promote the sexual aspects of it, but I don't mind romanticism. It happens in a lot of shows, such as Pikachu and Buneary. It's not prominent, but it's there, and the majority don't see anything wrong with it. If someone were to say they shipped animals in a show, I wouldn't bat an eye. I ship Gay and Lech in Bear Nuts. It's not something I view in a sexual nature, more I like their personality clashes and how they interact. I've never seen MLP, and I'm guessing a lot of the fandom do take it far and sexualize it. Whatever their reasons for doing so, I don't care. It's their ship and their interest, and though I find it a little irksome, it really has nothing to do with me. Let shippers ship. It's none of my business what another person ships, whether they're animals or humans.

I have nothing against M-rated fanfiction. In fact, I prefer it. I prefer darker stories. Strolling the G/Pg/t rated stories don't give me that. M doesn't always mean sex. Take a show such as Adventure Time that's aimed at children and keeps a cartoonish air to it. Looking through the M-rated section, I can find deeper and darker versions of the same show. That being said, I don't mind smut in a story. I don't seek out smut on its own, though I believe there's nothing wrong with it, but a well written story that has sexual scenes is fine with me. I've stumbled across smut of childrens' shows, and it's never aimed for the kids to read. There's a story, that is personally one of my all time favourite works of fanfiction, that places and older Sid and Andy from Toy Story together. It's something I'd never thought of, but the way this person wrote it made it seem so natural. If you don't want to see a show you watched as a child in a different light, don't stroll down the 'romance' fanfictions.

I think people view sex to be a dirty subject, which I disagree with. I write M-rated fanfiction. I haven't written anything below that rating for years. I don't like reading or writing purely bubbly or happy stories. I like heartbreak and adversity. That doesn't mean I don't like a happy ending, I do, but I like a sense of reality and hardship hardwired into the storyline. Because of how scary the fandom can be, I tend to stick with reading fanfiction and that's it. I don't like going further than that. But if a story takes ship/character bashing into the story and completely OOCs characters because the author dislikes them, I can't enjoy it anymore. Even if I dislike a character, I can't bash them in a story. It feels disrespectful as anyone who reads it may like the character.

I also find pregnancy to be a major storyline killer. I've seen a lot of great stories just die because BAM! YOU'RE PREGNANT! Especially if there's a supernatural aspect to it that causes the baby to develop and be delivered super fast. No. Just... no. Some people can pull pregnancy stories off well, and I respect that, but most I find do it to force two people who don't particually like each other to work together. It's a bad way to force a ship. Recently, I was reading a Nnoitra/Neliel story that started off strong, then pulled the 'super fast pregnancy' card and ruined it.

For yaoi/yuri/slash, I don't really ship couples due to their gender. I ship because of their dynamics despite gender. I know some people find same-sex couples hotter, and I understand that, but it's not about what's 'hot or not' to me. If I like the interactions and chemistry between two characters, I'll ship them whether or not they're male or female.

As for what fandoms I'm kinda-sorta-not-really-but-I-like-the-show 'in', I'm pretty sure I've already listed them all above, but I enjoy:

Misfits, HiNaBN, Glee (to a certain extent. A lot of it bugs me too), Bleach, Naruto, Fruits Basket, Death Note, Adventure Time, Narnia, The Inheritance Cycle, Ouran High School Host Club, Elfen Lied, American Horror Story, 2 Broke Girls, X-Men, Big Bang Theory, A;TLA/A;LOK, Teen Titans, THG, Pokemon, Digimon, Rise Of The Guardians.

Long list, and I'm probably missing some, but I have no life outside of work :\

...I never fail to start shipping something extremely contrary to an extremely popular ship in my fandom.

I've even done it with Die Anstalt, and that's a fandom of

like

around five, maybe ten people (actively at least)

(and all of them ship Dub/Wood except for me) '_'

I am very much a "live and let live" in my fandoms. I have personally experienced written abuse over fandoms I support and contribute to, and it's extremely depressing.

I write... dicey subjects. I enjoy stretching characters as far as they can go, finding their limits and challenging myself to make it still believable. I am carefully responsible about proving accurate and multiple warnings, so people who find my stuff, don't like it, and read / look at it anyway so they can bash it just baffles me.

My main fandom is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Four dynamic personalities raised in an insular world makes for very fascinating material to work with. :3

I have a pony OC. I guess that means I'm part of the fandom, kinda.

Maintaining my Wolverine fandom, vehemently. The fact that Marvel will hardly be inclined to phase out the character notwithstanding, of course. tongue.gif Have a storyline in my head, but overall, just a fan who likes to read the comics, ogle the films (is July 26 here, yet?), and read others' take on the character.

I love deep, intense loner fic for Logan, so I'm in the M+ category for my reading draw, because basically, anything else for Wolverine's nature is too tame. As someone above me wrote, M+ does not always mean sex. It also means a view of events in a character(s) life that reflects the darker, more angst-ridden side of the human (or mutant!) element and how a character deals with it. In the case of Wolverine, I can hardly see him dealing with it in a particularly flower-and-hearts manner. Those aren't the sorts of situations that tend to cross his path in the first place. He might ache for something more tender in his life and strive to get that, but would he really be Wolverine if it did happen for him? And honestly, in most fandoms that I gravitate toward, that has been the case. "Gladiator," LOTR, even "Star Wars" all have a hardcore, strong and epic element that require an M+ bent to the stories that come from them, in my opinion.

Right hurrrrrr.

And I tend to ship really weird couples. Like, Yosuke x Naoto/Rise, Yu x Chie, though I also like some not as insane ones like Kyouko x Mami and Sayaka x Madoka. And even ones hated by the fandom, like Sora x Kairi. Though I prefer Sora x Namine, Riku x Kairi, Roxas x Xion.

assassin's creed ezio x leonardo, haytham x connor

borderlands 2 zer0 x axton, axton x jack; jack x ANYONE because I love him as a tyrannical lover ;>

bioshock (jack x frank, delta x augustus, elizabeth x booker--idfc they're perfect for eachother and I ship them harder ever since I beat it)

shiiit I guess I'm not really part of any fandoms like I used to be. I like to observe but never really indulge myself in them. Boys and girls tend to creep me out with their obsessions, particularly bronies and furries and homestucks.

I have decided that I am a lazy bum when it comes to large fandoms, because I'm not going to sift through all that stuff that appears daily. So I either depend on fanfic recs/writers I like or just stalk watch relatively small fandoms like my current addiction, Dishonored. *flails*

Of course I feel terrible not contributing either art or writing but god my stuff sucks. :<

It seems fitting that I stumble onto this thread right now since most of my internet time has been overwhelmed by fanfiction recently. ..... Seriously, in the last 5 months I've gone from reading maybe one or two fanfiction stories every few months, to.... *counts* Four different bookmark-folders containing no less then 60 different fanfiction stories, many not started yet and many in various stages of reading, plus links to fanfiction authors where it's just like "WANT TO READ EVERYTHING!!".

.... Yeah. In terms of fandoms, my very first was Buffy the Vampire Slayer; the very first fanfics *I* wrote were BTVS (shipping Buffy/Faith). Nowadays, my focus is more on House, Glee, Law and Order SVU, Rizzoli & Isles, with a few Harry Potter thrown in even though I never did read all the books or watch all the movies.

I'm a lesbian, and gravitate towards romance stories anyways, so I usually read f/f ships (favorites include House's Cameron/Thirteen, Glee's Santana/anyone, Rizzoli/Isles, SVU's Olivia/Alex....)

I read all sorts of stuff in terms of theme/genre. When I'm feeling down I love reading "cracktastic" fanfics, just totally crazy out there stuff that's deliberately written for laughs. I've also found a pattern of reading "no we can't be together, can't like each other, DENIAL!!!!............... okay maybe we can try this" type of stories. I said I like romance, but I don't usually care for mushy-lovey-dovey stuff, so most fanfics I read have a heavy dose of angst to them.

I'm really not much into fandoms. Many of them scare me beyond belief so I just sit in the corner with my own ships and do my own thing. KH for instance, with the whole place shipping SoRiku and AkuRoku, which scare me. I don't disapprove of them, I have my own wacky pairings (VikuShi. AkuViku.) but it's just kinda unnerving to see the same couple all over the place.

Though it's anime fandoms I steer clear of, considering my shipping of characters that met each other maybe ONCE or maybe not even at all in the whole anime. The KHR fandom floats around with Tsuna/Kyoko or Colonello/Lal Mirch which are both canon. Meanwhile, I sit here with Squalo/Kyoko, the crazy loud evil swordsman shark and the damsel in distress xd.png

I'm really awkward about what I support or don't, so I just try to not approve or disapprove of anything sensitive. Like M-rated fanfiction of a kid's show. I wouldn't tend to read it myself because it's quite creepy and the thought of it scares me. But if I don't want to read, I just don't read. People who write that should continue, by all means, if they so wish. Just because I won't read it at all doesn't mean someone else won't read it and enjoy it wink.gif

That awkward support is another reason why I don't tend to outwardly show my ships. Some of them make little sense or can be inappropriate or sensitive topics. For instance, I ship Mikoto/Nozomu of SZS... they're brothers. I also ship Gakupo/Rin, Rin being 14 and Gakupo appearing in his 30's(his age is unofficial.). Some people will completely disapprove of those xd.png

Finally, I sort of write fanfiction but I sort of don't. Most of the writing I do has to do with RPs that were once based off of other series (a story of mine called Isolophobia was originally a KH RP.). But I've taken pokes at writing a bit more often, recently.
