Posted February 4, 2011 If we don't HAVE them we don't have to choose anything. Now that I see that list I say again - we MUST be allowed NOT to have them ! Takes up valuable space on the page, too Share this post Link to post
Posted February 5, 2011 (edited) "I take breeding requests." "I gift via The Giving Tree; if you want something, please post there." "Please don't ask me to breed anything." "Do not ask for a Holly/I will ignore your request for a Holly." "Please do not ask me for rares." "If you need help, feel free to ask me." "I will take any inbred/unwanted dragons." "I will be gone for awhile. If you need anything, ask me when I return." I could be missing something, but it seems that those suggested messages assume some kind of knowledge of a member's scroll name. But those messages go on the scroll, and you can't "ask" or "contact" anyone on their scroll, and you would have to look for them in the forum. However, not everyone uses their scroll name on the forum! If the suggested messages are going to be useful (and I really like this idea!) there needs to be one more, with a way of writing in the last word: "My forum name is _______________." While some people don't use the forum, that seems the most logical place to contact you if you want to be contacted. Adding IRC names (which I have seen change) or anything else like an email account would just be far too complicated. However, without that little bit of information, if your forum and scroll name are not the same, there really is no point to telling anyone that you will breed on request, unless you just wish to tease! In fact, if there were just a place to put your scroll name, most of the above messages could be taken care of in your sig or profile, if someone looking at your scroll were directed there. However, I do like the idea of messages on the scroll. I like it very much. Edited February 5, 2011 by bantymom Share this post Link to post
Posted February 15, 2011 I'm pissed right now. I have the no-aid message turned on, but someone added my gold egg to a site (don't know when or where) and hatched it for me. I was deliberately keeping that egg low-view so I could trade it. I never really cared one way or the other about this suggestion before, but right now I *reallllllly* wish I could've had a huge "DO NOT ER MY DRAGONS" sign on my scroll. Share this post Link to post
Posted February 15, 2011 ^ that really sucks. :/ I think that these messages would be rather cute to have running around. And if they're optional, even better for those who want to NOT have them. ^^ Share this post Link to post

If someone is determined to mess with your eggs, they will. The message you already get is clear enough. I don't think a scroll message would have stopped them. The only thing to do with eggs you want to keep low is to fog when you are away from your computer (I do accept aid, yes - but - well, what happened to me recently was certainly view bombing, not just someone being helpful People don't care about any messages if they show up to be nasty.) Posted June 11, 2013 (edited) Forgive me if this has been suggested before. I did a search but couldn't find anything. I would love to see the ability to add a note to my scroll that could be made viewable to other players. Like the dragon descriptions, but for the user. It could be used for player biographies, character descriptions for the RPers, or in my case I'd use it to explain the way my dragons are named. Posted June 11, 2013 I know this has been suggested in other threads, but I didn't find it my searches either. I for one would love this Share this post Link to post
Posted June 11, 2013 If they are aproved as the dragon descriptions are, but with a broader scope (so that descriptions of a rp persona, a explanation to naming patterns etc. are possible), I think this should work well. Share this post Link to post
Posted June 12, 2013 I think that this is a great idea. It makes sense that a dragon collector might write something about themselves on their scroll. Share this post Link to post
Posted June 12, 2013 I like the idea! Sounds good.^^ I would describe Sillva, that would be lovely. Share this post Link to post
Posted June 29, 2013 I'd like it only if it were something that you have to click on to read, but that's my own personal taste. Share this post Link to post
Posted June 29, 2013 I'd like it only if it were something that you have to click on to read, but that's my own personal taste. I'd agree with this, but otherwise I adore this idea (and it's not exactly a dealbreaker for me if it's not click-to-view). I'd personally like an allowance for linking to, say, my art tumblr, but I can easily see why TJ would not want to allow links, even if it has the same access requirements as dragon descriptions. Links. NO NO NO NO NO. Another invision forum I am on allowed them - and very shortly we started getting people with NO interest in our stuff, selling naughty movies from Russia - they'd tracked where we'd come from and followed our path back. NOT good. Share this post Link to post

NOT good. I strongly doubt a spammer would want to take the effort needed to raise enough dragons to unlock it. You'd have a bigger problem with PMs on the forum itself. Posted June 29, 2013 I am sure PMs would be an issue, yes. But trust me - those people trying to sell their porn were VERY determined. We've had to block registration except through an administrator email system ! Share this post Link to post
Posted June 29, 2013 And I've dealt with similar problems as admin on a forum before, but that's just it: on forums. It's much easier to reach a larger audience when you don't have to jump through hoops like those on DragCave AND there's a convenient link to an easier way to spam people with your links to porn/dubious drugs/crappy knock-offs. Posted July 1, 2013 I would love this, and actually have been waiting for it for a long time. It would be great to expand the RP element of the cave. And re: the link issue, what if they could be placed in a spoiler of sorts? Where you can click a small, nondescript button and the description is hidden? That way if you do not want it taking up space on your scroll you wouldn't see it but it would still be on the site. Would these be sent to a que to be approved like dragon descriptions? What would the text limit be? Share this post Link to post
Posted July 1, 2013 I do think adding links could be a potential can of worms. Unless the player descriptions are put through an approval process like dragon descriptions, as has been suggested. Assuming that process, can whoever moderates just disapprove ones with shady links? Though frankly it might be safer/easier to just not have links. Share this post Link to post
Posted July 1, 2013 I say no links and no approval, but a report button for inappropriate content. Share this post Link to post

And even if they were moderated, the content in said link could easily be changed to something inappropriate. Even unintentionally, like say, a link to dA. The art and artist in question might be PG-13, but there is no guarantee something odd and unwanted won't appear in the "more like this" section or in the artist's favorites.
