I think probably the worst injury I've had is probably one time when I was working on a project that involved hot glue, and was holding a newly-glued portion of it in my hands to press the parts together, only for a nice big glob of melted glue to drip out the back where I couldn't see it and fall on the inside of my leg.

 

Of course, this just HAPPENED to be the day I was wearing shorts, too.

 

Needless to say I had that hot glue wiped off faster than I could even think about what happened, but it took a nice little patch of skin with it, and left a very sore/tender area for quite a while.

 

Though almost surprisingly, though I used my bare hands to wipe the glue off, I somehow managed to avoid burning my fingers as well in the process.

Hrm... I dunno, I've had a few nasty ones over the years. Fell off a bike and got some nasty scrapes as a kid, my elbow is scarred from it.

 

Also stabbed my knee on something in a car, went right down to the bone. Really freaky-looking.

 

 

Slammed my finger in my car trunk, nail never healed right and I gotta keep it short otherwise it splits in the middle...

 

 

Not really sure which of those three. Finger is most likely the worst, I suppose, since it's got lasting damage that's still bothersome to this day...

The worst injury ive had was probally when I was six and was really into cricket. We went to my uncles house in South Africa and we were just playing some cricket with the family and I was bowling I was joging backwards to get ready to bowl but I triped over and landed backwards on a large metal thorned pole(to keep the criminals out of course)and got a average cut from my lower back right around to my colar bone.

I cracked my head open when I was five by running into the corner of a room. The doctor had to put seven stitches in my sorry little head.

The worst injury that ever happened to me, was being bitten in the face by our dog (a Dachshund). I was 12 years old, and sitting outside on our lawn, and petting our dog. Suddenly, out of nowhere, she bit me in the face. I still remember the sound of her jaws snapping onto each other. It all happened so fast, that I didn't feel a thing - but when I saw blood trickling down, I knew that it was bad. I called out for my mother (who also was outside), and she ran towards me, after which she rushed me inside, to the bathroom. Once there, in the mirror I saw a big tear just above my upper lip, and I fainted. When I came to again, a wet cloth was put on the wound and we then drove to the hospital, where the wound was stitched closed. I think I missed two days of school after that, because I had to be careful with my movements - I could even barely eat, because I wasn't allowed to open my mouth very far. But fortunately, everything healed nicely and today there's of course a scar, but you only really see it if you take the time to look for it.

 

As for our dog, she had never had a history of aggression. After examination by a vet, it turned out that she had uterine cancer - so she was in pain when I petted her, and in that moment of pain, she had lashed out. The vet had her uterus removed, and our dog continued to be with us for many years (during which she never again showed any sign of aggression). She died only 4 years ago, if I remember correctly.

I think i was about 7-8 years old when i slipped on a icy rock and hit my chin on second rock and i was scared to death because all i saw was so much blood on my jacket and terrible pain, well i got 3 stitches and now i have scar for the rest of my life. Lesson learned never walk on rocks on winter.

Hehe, I too hit my chin once.. Although it was on the schoolyard when I was maybe 7 years old. Can't remember too much though.. Only that some kid brought me my glasses when I sat inside, waiting for my mom.

I've been lucky so far with injuries-- I make a point of being cautious. I potentially have carpal tunnel, though, and I once had to wear a brace on my wrist because it was sore; we think the carpal tunnel was the reason.

 

It was't an injury, but I had to have seven teeth removed a few months ago. At the same time. Even the setup was horribly terrifying (all the equipment they hooked up to me.... and then they stuck an IV in my arm), and after it was done, it was SO painful-- for a whole week. Words can't describe that kind of pain.

As if the braces weren't awful enough. I will never forgive them for that >.>

When I peeled potatoes and I accidently peeled on my inbox finger and the skin was well off, I was shocked and pale. I still have scar on it.

 

When I was 11 years old I went to ice staking with school. I fell over and someone past me and I didn't realise that my forearm was opened and blood everywhere! :|

I suppose that I have had two worst injuries.

Once when I was 11, I got hit by a speeding car and was in a coma for three days and hosdpitalized for a month.

 

The other was when I was 17 and was swimming in the ocean off of Norfolk, Virginia and stuck my hand and arm through a Portuguese-Man-a-War jellyfish. I was rushed to a medical clinic and given an adreneline shot and put on tranks for three days in bed.

 

Oh, I forgot, also in Virginia, also about 17, I cut the bottoms of my feet open on shells and rocks while fishing and had to walk home that way, then rushed to a hospital for a bunch of cleaning and stitches... ouch!

 

I guess thats about it... surprisingly, I'm still alive at 65... lol

I'd say my worst would be a fractured vertebral process in my lower back (horse injury), a concussion complete with missing time (horse injury), and a dog bite with multiple punctures to my arm.

I've been fairly lucky, no broken bones or hospitalizations in my 24 years... but a few pretty scary injuries, anyways.

 

Thanksgiving 2008 I was getting ready for company, family I hadn't seen in over a year... I slipped in the shower. And hit my face on the spigot-thing (My forehead, nose, and eyes got the worst of it). *Freaked* out because in less then a minute the bottom of the tub was covered in blood.

 

Probably should've gotten that checked out by a doctor, but I didn't. The swelling got worse throughout the day, I actually have pictures where my eyes are basically swollen shut.

 

What else? Oh yes, my foot. I was arguing with mom one evening, all dramatic and upset, and angry enough to be stupid and stomp my foot down on a big cooking lid that was sitting on the floor. .... I didn't know the lid was plastic, or that it would break so easily, or cut so deep. A nice-sized gash right in between two of my toes. Another one where I probably should've gone to the hospital but didn't, it bled a lot and for a good 2+ months it hurt to walk on it.

Worst was... horse bite, about 4 years ago. Should have known that my former horse was in a piss-poor mood ready to go after me (he was always territorial in the stall), but I didn't. Shame on me. Anyway, I reached out to roll open the stall door, stuck my fingers through the gap to push, and he chomped down.

 

I had to slap him to make him let go, was kind of in shock and didn't think it was that bad until my instructor saw it. lol. Then I felt pain, they took me to the hospital, etc. (Everyone who came to examine couldn't believe I'd been bitten by a horse. They kept asking, 'A horse?' No, doc(s)! I was mauled by my pet squirrel and I'm lying!). I think them having to 'clean' it (with a scalpel... why?!) and the stitching hurt worse than the actual bite. I couldn't move it for months, because the horse hit a nerve and a blood vessel. Still can't bend my finger all the way down from the nerve damage, but I am told scars are sexy. O.o I'd rather lose the scar and all its sexiness, but that's just me.

I'm still a high schooler but I've had 2 concussions. My first was when my grandmother slammed a van door on my head as i was getting out (we didn't have automatic doors at the time). The second is just embarrassing, I was playing ultimate frisbee with my friends in the rain on one of the school soccer fields. I was racing a kid for the frisbee and ran straight into the soccer goal post

I have a 2 inch scar on the back of my calf from getting stuck with a nail poking out of a bench in primary school. Went in about 3cm and I stood up, tearing the skin some more; had to get stitches. Didn't hurt much though

 

I loved jungle gyms when I was little (and still do ) and used to fall a lot. Broken my arm twice because of this, now this hurt a lot.

 

I used to fall off my bike and get chunks of gravel dug into my knees, kinda hurt.

I just read through this entire topic. All fifteen pages. And damn, some of the stuff in here makes me whimper. Some more than others. And I really have to give mad props to those of you with traumatic experiences for sharing them despite the memories that probably digs back up! D:

 

4).  This is probably the worst. About 4 years after the appendix surgery, I started getting a piercing pain in my stomach, and whatever I ate or drank I was throwing right back up. X-rays and scans showed nothing wrong. So after an overnight in the hospital (at this point I was in so much pain I was gripping the bed railings behind my head and was screaming), the consultant doctor said "we'll just have to open her up and see what it is" (I still remember hearing that!! *shudder*). They did and turned out that during my appendix surgery they had by accident left a piece of the appendix still attached to the intestine, and it had got infected, and basically the infection was rotting my intestines little by little. They ended up removing 1.5ft of my intestines. I was in hospital (including ICU) for about a month with no solid food, not even water to drink for the first 2 weeks. That was horrible!

 

That sounds like a perfect nightmare out of hell. I hurt just reading this. I'm so glad this is in your past rather than your present, though, oh my gosh! D:

 

My worst injury happened yesterday. Well, it started the day before yesterday I thought I had and ear infection. I am a tiny bit prone to getting ear infections, but usually doctor says "here is your prescription yes indeed your ear is swollen bye". I have only had one ear infection in the past 5 years so I guess by usually I am partially lying. That was the only time somebody has said that to me. Anyway a day later, we go to this emergency room place, get the forms done and go to the nurse who writes down the problem and checks my other ear for a fever. He says [Dr. somebody] will be over there to check you in 2 minutes. 2 mins later, I am in [Dr. somebody]s room.  When he looks into my ear with a light he says "I have never seen anything like this before". Words you never want to hear a doctor say. He follows that by "Now I don't want this to upset you by this but I think there may be a bugs in your ear or some foreign matter, but thats probably unrelated. I see little black dots, maybe ants or something. Calm down, it's okay, I will call the specialist, he will suck them out with this little thing, don't worry". He asked me if I stuck anything in my ear.  I end up watching a really stupid cartoon in the waiting lounge for half an hour, the ear person arrives and guess what? I have a tick deep into my ear and the black stuff is probably poop, some deep as well, some right by the surface. The tick getting pulled out hurt like hell. I was screaming and crying. The pain was unbearable, hands down the most painful thing that ever hurt in my life. He was rooted deep, let me tell you. The metal suction thing for those little hard black things everywhere for each one was about 70% of the pain of the actual tick. I clenched my teeth, held on to my mothers hand and tried to keep still as I could. Now let me tell you, for that type of operation general anesthesia was a real option, but I didn't bother, to much complication, even with zero pain. Finally he said "Good as gold" and I was so happy to leave. As of now it is REALLY sore,  but very bearable. The thing is, it took three days for the pain to wear off from a removed tick bite on my toe from earlier that week, so on the sensitive part of my ear, it should be pretty painful for a week. But it hurts to touch my ear, take my shirt of, put my hair over my ear, press below my ear, move my head really fast, and a bunch of other things. Maybe it's not really an injury, but it sure was my most painful experience.

 

Wawawarrrrgh mental image. *sobs and covers ears protectively* That must have been awful! I hope you got better soon after that post! Thank goodness that thing went back out!

 

worst would have been the emergency C- section nessary to save the life of my second child. drs in quite the rush. non of the meds took correctly (only about 1/2 an inch of skin on my belly was numb) and they cut me open and took her out anyways. still have freaky nightmares about it. for any one pregant or someday wanting children this is the kind of freak accident that you hear about in medical textbooks, not common place by any means. you have a better chance of winning a huge lotto then this happening to you.

 

O_O Should have played the lottery. Oh my gosh, though. Mad respect for both of you, living through that. Hope you get fewer nightmares, though.

 

My stuff is tame in comparison; just cut open the underside of my right foot once (the skin is still a little bit too tight over it now, so when I stretch it, it stings mildly sometimes), a dog nearly bit off my thumb once (got stitches and cool scars and unfortunately a stubborn dislike of canines out of that one), and I smacked my head open on the edge of a wall once (which sounds way worse than it was, I promise).

oh gosh...well the biggest thing ive ever done and got injered was when i was riding a 4wheeler and i looked over the side and my face hit a tree...i was bleeding badly, had 2 black eyes, and i was picking tree bark out of my cheek and eyelid for like 2 days after it happened. worst days of my life before it healed DX

When I was five, I managed to puncture the corner of my foot on an extremely sharp fridge corner. And then I tried to turn around to get away from it, and it dragged an inch-deep cut in my foot. I still have the scar today, and it looks kind of weird.

 

There's probably other stuff, but that was the one I remember most vividly. Oh, wait, there was the time when I accidentally got my foot caught in the spokes of a bicycle wheel. While it was running. Broke foot, was lucky not to get leg broken.

 

I've avoided more grievous injuries than I've had, so I'm pretty thankful about that.

Last year when I fell off a horse. Fractured my spine and caused the spine to slip 8mm from my pelvis. Sounds worse than what it actually was.
