It is all very frightening. I honestly fear for this country very much.

I know the election is over and Biden won, but we can't afford to be complacent about what is going on in this country.

Right now the Republican party is so bent on bringing down the Biden administration that they are willing to kill people to do it. 90% or more of new cases are among the unvaccinated. Hospitalization and death among the breakthrough cases are almost non-existent. There is plenty of vaccine available for everyone. We have the means to break CoVid's hold. If enough people get vaccinated and the pandemic comes under control, the economy will improve. The Republicans don't want that! If the economy is bad when elections roll around the party in power almost always loses. The Republicans have their eye on 2022 and more importantly 2024. Therefore we have all this anti-vaccine rhetoric by people who have already been vaccinated themselves (or refuse to say whether they have been vaccinated or not :o, so probably have been.) The crowd actually cheered at the recent CPAC convention when it was announced that the federal government was failing to meet its vaccination goals! These are not stupid people -- they don't believe the conspiracy theories and anti-vax horror stories they are spreading or encouraging! They are just using them to hold on to power any way they can! Even if it is killing people!

This is what gets me every time. We wind up getting some huge win or something, democrats just back off think it's "good enough" and call it a day. This time we really can't afford it at all. If Trump or anyone allied with him gets back into control, we're screwed. I honestly did not want to live here those 4 years we had him in office, they was awful, I seen some of the worst out of my family and thanks to him, I have seen people I thought were reasonable adults turn into people I cannot recognize anymore. It's insane what one man can do to your own family let alone the rest of the country.

Their interpretation of 'law and order' is much like 'the beatings will continue until morale increases.'

@Astreya "Law and Order" is great as long as it applies to those they don't like. When it applies to them it is a different story!

See how they are discrediting the Capitol Police officers who are testifying in the hearing on the Jan 6 insurrection!

Texas Governor Greg Abbott tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday and is isolating and receiving a monoclonal antibody treatment, his office said.

Abbott, a Republican who has sought to block local officials in the state from mandating the use of masks, is without symptoms, his office said in a statement.

"Governor Abbott is fully vaccinated against COVID-19, in good health, and currently experiencing no symptoms," it said.

My question of many is: If he has no symptoms, why does he need the antibody treatment?! If I got covid, would I be given the same treatment? I sincerely doubt it.

Out here in TN, the governor signed an executive order preventing school districts from making mask mandates. He says parents should get to decide, that it's an adult problem, and almost all hospitalizations are adults, not kids. (YET! infection rate among children is rising, and quickly)   Thankfully the AG spoke up and said they won't prosecute teachers/admin for doing what they can to keep children safe.

A lot of the schools districts aren't notifying parents of exposures, or doing contact tracing. The health depts say they don't have enough staff for the tracing so, I guess it's not important. /s

To top things off, the CDC order to halt covid evictions is void here, due to a 6th circuit court ruling, so hundreds of people are being evicted.

I just can't.

A lot of people are asking that. On top of that, they're sayng he got the booster shot that is not available to the public. And he was at an big event with a crowd of maskless people the night before.

IKR? He had both vaccination shoots, plus the booster that we can't get until late next month... And he freaked out and asked for the very expensive Regeneron antibody treatment while telling people they don't need to wear masks or vaccinate, and is fighting tooth and nail against children in public schools masking up. Abbott is very much a 'pull the ladder up behind me' guy.

I don't live in Texas anymore. Climate change is making it a crispy critter, but I still pay attention.

Is this legal??? It feels so illegal but I also would not be surprised if it wasn't. 🙄

In other news, my Facebook feed has been swimming with the anti-trans bill discourse that went through Alabama recently. I'm so angry. How do these people even function properly? It takes so much cognitive dissonance to outlaw medical treatment for minors. Ugh. Poor kids.

Sorry, I was just idling scrolling through to see what funny stuff was up and saw this and saw there was genuine concern about it. Don't worry, I get ads like this and other crap all the time. From both sides. It's all over the map. It's literally just attention-getting clickbait crap. It's nothing. Literally just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks, so if you don't click on it at all, the ads just get increasingly weird and outrageous. xD It's a standard gimmick, nothing new at all. ^_^

This thread has fallen frighteningly silent. Just because Trump lost the election (even though he will NEVER admit it) does not mean we are safe!

Please take the time to read and think about the blog post I am linking here.

https://johnpavlovitz.com/2021/10/27/the-day-fascism-wins-in-america/

Our Democracy is not guaranteed, our Republic not ensured to survive, the freedoms and systems that we always saw as a given are no longer fixed promises. The sobering truth, regardless of whether we want to believe it or not, is that we are perilously close to losing many of the elemental liberties we assumed could never be taken away.

The good news is that we are not quite yet there.

Fascism has not yet fully won, which means we do not have to grieve all that we did not do or say or give, if we do and say and give it now, if we use today wisely.

I'm seeing a pattern emerging. Beware of people using the term 'neocon.' It appears to be a gatekeeping word used by ultra-conservatives and the far right.

yikes, but probably not. :(

our current store manager is planning on running for congress as my representative in 2024.  he says he doesn't want a socialist country.  next time we talk, i should ask him to give me his social security money, since that came from socialism.  i should tell him not to use a public library, or drive on the interstate system, or never need the police or fire department either.

Not even surprised. I am absolutely disgusted with this country anymore. Every day I wake up and see more women's rights taken away, people being nasty with each other, the coronavirus not being treated with the level it needs to be. It's tiring and I'm to a point I want to tune this crap out anymore.

i really wish i could be more interested in politics, and understand whats going on so i can choose a side, and understand who is best for voting when im old enough to vote, but its really hard for me to get the information that i want because the openions i read are either extreme democratic views, or extreme republican views, so its really hard to find a safe inbetween where the opinions arent controlling the flow of information.

also off topic but still on topic, does anyone else thing that biden is unfit to be a president? like im not talking about his views or opinions, im talking about his physical health, like is he mentally ok?

@Dinosaurbean

I think it might be a good idea if you would try to read some non-US media that look at the situation in the US as these usually don't bother so much about the US parties per se and look at the things in the US from the outside, which is probably a good deal more objective than the very partisan views from within the US.

I would suggest the Guardian (which is a good deal more left leaning than anything you will find in the US, though) as they usually have very sensible articles from the outside looking in as they are originally from the UK - plus they are without a paywall and written in English: https://www.theguardian.com/international

Another media outlet you might take a look into is Deutsche Welle (DW), Germany’s international broadcaster that   provides journalistic content in 32 languages, giving people worldwide the opportunity to form their own opinions:  https://www.dw.com/en/top-stories/s-9097
