History, Setting, Helpful Information

The Island is in the middle of a large ocean, complete with an active volcano to the west and a large lake to the east. It is not on any maps, nor will you be able to find it from a satellite. It is hidden from all but the naked eye by advanced technology.

It is tropical, so it is covered with rainforest with few clearings and a small section of plains. There are the normal animals you would expect to come across in such an ecosystem; jaguars, monkeys, tropical parrots. There is also a herd of wild horses, which graze on the plains, along with a small group of antelopes.

There is evidence of previous inhabitation. There are buildings, although most of them are more than partly destroyed, and they appear to be scientific faculties, factories of mass production, some small, simple houses and store houses.

The scientific buildings smell toxic, so most of the shifters avoid them. The first generation shifters all have unpleasant memories of a white room, with a silvery mirror and an overly clean scent; they assume this is where those memories originate from.

The factories have rusted, broken machinery littered around the internal structure. There are only two factories; one seemed to produce vehicles, and the other, household appliances. There are hulls of cars, sheets of unusable metal, knife handles, broken wiring and other piles of unrecognisable rust.

The houses have a maximum of four rooms, and most of the roofs and walls have fallen in. There are some places to hide during the frequent thunderstorms, or the rare snow. They are also good refuge from the lurking helicopters. The houses are usually log cabins, with a rare plaster and brick dwelling near the science area. That particular residency is half burnt and mostly charcoal. All the ashes have long since blown away with the winds.

The storage buildings are all empty, with the exception of rats and the odd bat. The shifters do not know what was held in there and there have been small investigations in the brief history of their kind. Small things have been found; splinters of wood, links of a chain and a few long bones.

The lake has a dock, which is rotting and old. In the water itself, however, are many creatures. There are some shifters betwixt the normal animals, but they keep to themselves. There are large fish, a colony of freshwater crocodiles, fish hawks, eagles and a few other creatures.

The shifters themselves are usually spread out over the island, and some have no idea that others of their kind exist. The keyword is goodnight. There are around fifty in total, with a small group near the east-most side of the lake. Each shifter only has one second form, which they discover in their adolescent years. The first change is usually brought on by an intense emotion; happiness, fear or rage.

Before the first change, they don’t appear any different to a normal human, but they fight for survival the best they can without the secondary form.

Each shifter has a mark that indicates what animal they are, but it isn’t obvious. A large cat may have claw marks, a fang or a paw mark, or even a spot, if it is a spotted cat. A bat may have an image of wing bones; a bird may have a feather or a talon. There is a large variety of markings and none are the same.

The animals that they turn into are perfectly normal, with no added strength or abilities. The single difference is the human mind within the creature and the intelligence – or lack thereof – that comes with it.

Changing is not instantaneous; it takes a small amount of time and concentration.

The memories of the white room hint at the shifter's origins. Some of the more intelligent shifters have the theory of the beginning of their existence. They believe that they were experiments, weird things of science, created for the enjoyment of the humans. The first generation of shifters don't enjoy speaking of it, since they experienced it first-hand, but several have told the second generation what the weird dreams of the white room mean.

Threat

There is a threat to the safety of the shifters. A mysterious, massive helicopter circles around the island on a regular basis, every two to three days. It has an extremely bright spotlight and large guns. It is shiny, black and very dangerous.

It sometimes lands in a large clearing, near the volcano on the west side. The shifters have always been too afraid to go near the massive machine, because they would probably be killed, or taken away from their wild home. Some of the braver shifters searched the area after one of the landings, only to find footprints and wheel tracks. It was said to smell horrible, like the volcano, but the ones who searched it retreated back into their hiding places.

There are also smaller helicopters, but they’re just as deadly. The sleek, black vehicles sweep across the island once a week, appearing to be searching for something. They often land and stay for close to a full day, sending out foot patrols to search the ruined buildings and other previously inhabited areas.

Character Name: Stripe

Age: 25

Sex: Female

Personality: Stripe is fierce, protective and reclusive. Like a tiger, she prefers to have a lot of time to herself, but she’s still very human. She has a den close to the group to the east of the lake and hunts for the younger members of the small clan. They provide protection and company for her, so she has a win-win situation. Stripe is opportunistic; jumping on any chance that life gives her. She finds that life with the clan is monotonous, but safe, and yearns for a change. Stripe can be somewhat uncaring, at times, for other adults, but she loves children (or “cubs”, as she calls them.)

Animal Form Tigger!

Description: Stripe is short, but lithe and muscular. She has burnt orange hair, a shade darker than her fur in tiger form, and hazel-gold eyes. She has very pixie-like features, but her nose and lips are slightly too wide. She has a well developed body, as is expected of an adult her age, but everything is in proportion to her height. Her hair is cut short, with jagged edges, and her fringe reaches the bridge of her nose. The warm colour looks odd with her naturally bronze skin. The rest isn’t any longer than her neck, showing off the mark across her shoulders. Her mark is a jagged stripe, like a tigers, across her upper back and close to her neck. She wears the bare minimum of clothing, just a few strips of cloth across the more important places. She found early on that clothing inhibited her movement, so she shed it happily.

Other: Stripe is in the first generation of shifters, but one of the very youngest.

Key word: I’m the creator. I know the key word. Now what was it...?

Character Name: Zorillo (Zo)

Age: 17

Sex: Female

Personality: Zo is rather arrogant and harsh, not seeming to care if her words are scathing or if her actions are offensive. She very rarely submits to any authority, preferring to rebel in the usual adolescent fashion. Some who have met her, and almost all the members of the clan, have the opinion that she needs to have some sense and respect knocked into her. Carnarl is the only shifter yet that Zo has bowed her head to; she deems no other worthy of her respect. She has a soft spot for small, fluffy creatures, though, and a strong maternal instinct.

Animal Form: Hooded Skunk

Description: Zo is tall, lithe and her arms and legs are well muscled. She eats well, with her omnivorous diet, and it shows on her stomach. It isn’t large, but it isn’t flat, either. She reaches almost six foot three; her height is mainly from her long legs. Her muscles are long and wiry, roping down her long limbs. She looks quite gangly, since she hasn’t reached her full height just yet and her torso needs to lengthen. Her straight hair is long, reaching her thin hips, and black. Zo does not tie it back, finding it easier, when she shifts, to leave her hair loose. Her eyes are a dark brown, almost black, and set wide on her circular face. Her features are Hispanic, and her skin is a light bronze, only slightly darkened by the sun. She only wears clothing to keep warm during the cold nights, if she isn’t in her animal form. An open, ragged coat and a pair of pants, tightened with a fraying strip of fabric are the only clothing she will wear. All else, she considers beneath her. Her mark is a thin white stripe, from her crown to her upper lip.

Other: Second generation of shifters.

Character Name: Roko [Roo]

Age: Nineteen

Sex: Female

Personality: Unfriendly is generally the term that is acquainted to her; she doesn't like company very much, and it is extremely difficult to find a long stretch of tolerance from her. She prefers to be alone and do things for herself, as she thinks most others are incompetent and ignorant. When in first encounters with her, she comes off as very aggressive, harsh, and sometimes even cruel. She doesn't see the point in cooperating with others and will make it known quite often. Her temper is incredibly easy to provoke, and nothing stops her from lashing out against the cause.

Animal Form The Equine

Description: [x] This is what she mainly looks like (obviously without the crazy getup and tattoos), however, her hair is not that tangled. It is long and black, but not very curly and only forms a few natural waves around her shoulders and sides. Other than, she keeps it rather orderly and free of knots. She stands around five foot eight and is incredibly lean and muscular. Her skin is tanned and sun-worn, and there are smatterings of scars across her forceps, thighs, and abdomen. Her eyes are a golden-brown with a ring of black along the rim of the iris, and flecks of dark brown close to the pupil. Her eyelashes are long, dark, and thick, and her eyebrows are dark and slender and arch just after the center. Her expression is usually darkened with a scowl or blank indifference, thus her features are generally unfriendly and menacing.

In place of the tattoo symbols in the picture, is instead her marking; narrow "C" shaped spots that trail from one shoulder to the other, across the chest and just under the collarbone.

Other: She doesn't really like clothes, thus wears the least amount appropriate. She also seems to have a particular skill with whips. Roko was born to a young teen first-generation, but shortly after her birth her mother died. Baby Roo was then given to foster parents who were also quite young, but they cared for her for several years. When she was about five years old, Roko suddenly took off into the night and was unable to be found by her foster family. Since then, she has lived on her own, with minimal contact with other shifters around the Island.

Roo remembers stories from when she was little, but only bits and pieces that stood out to her at such a young age, and those segments were usually descriptions of horrible white rooms and acidic smells. Every once in a while Roko will investigate the helicopters, but usually keeps around the wild horse herds as camouflage and only approaches the volcano as a curious, stray horse. Roko detests males above all else, therefore romantic relationships will never form. Females, on the other hand, she finds quite amusing. [Hinthint]

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DO NOT UNDERSTAND, ROKO IS A LESBIAN AND IS NEVER GOING TO GO STRAIGHT FOR ANY MALE. SO DO NOT TRY IT OR PESTER HAZE ABOUT IT. She'll tear the face off of any guy who tries, 'kay? Or kick them in the crotch with a nice, hard hoof.

Character Name: Grey

Age: Fourteen

Sex: Female

Personality: She is a bit of an oddball. While in most cases she is quiet and observing, she can have random bouts of silliness and tends to find the strangest things incredibly funny. She also is very easily excited and can have hyper-active episodes which quickly lead to her falling asleep in some sort of bush. Company is also something that makes her very happy- although she grew up alone, mostly, she will tackle any human she sees and curl up in their arms just for the sake of being close to something alive and strong. Her shyness will overwhelm her if she's surrounded by too many people, though, but Grey doesn't run away- she simply freezes to the spot and watches with wide eyes. Aggression hasn't yet been apart of her behavior, although she is capable of it. There's no saying what might trigger, it, though, since nothing seems to upset her to the point of anger.

Generally, she's childish for her age, and she shows no knowledge or interest in how to live as an adult. Her attention span is very small and can abruptly shift from object to object.

She's also a bit dimwitted, but can learn fast if taught.

Animal Form African Civet

Description: As a human, she's not very tall- she barely reaches five feet and three inches. Her legs are very muscular and show great strength compared to her thinner arms and shoulders. While overall Grey sports an athletic appearance, she's still a bit skinny and not the greatest built for fighting. She has small hands and feet and a lithe face, with pouting, dark lips and wide reddish-brown eyes. Her facial structure is rather average for a female human, although the pointed fangs on her bottom jaw protrude from time to time. Her hair is a dark, shining black, with streaks and spots of goldish-gray in some areas; her skin is almost identical in color to these high lights, although perhaps a few shades darker from exposure to the sun. Her fingernails are naturally thick, and although they have grown about half a centimeter past her fingertip, they are stubby and flat.

Her marking is a darker, birth-mark colored band across her eyes and cheeks, but not much over the nose. (See the Civet's picture- it's the same as the face "mask".) She also has a few spots along her thighs and hips; because of her markings, most people who first meet her assume she likes to play in mud.

For clothing, she wears her mother's shorts sewn from old fabric scraps found near the abandoned buildings. The fabric is several different colors, ranging from reds to tans and green. It's all very dirty, though, so the changes in hue aren't that noticeable. For a shirt, she makes due with a burlap sack with a hole in the top that fits snugly just under her arms, which converts it into a coarse tube-top like garment. The billowing sides were stitched back to form more to her thin figure.

Other: Grey is of the third generation of shifters. She lived with her parents, who were loving beings, and the few other members of her family that kept close together. However, after a while, sickness killed her grandparents and aunts, a fatal fight with another animal took her uncle, and when she was three years old, the "metal beasts" shot her parents. The humans didn't realize that the infant was still alive and left her in the burrow, thus leaving her to fend for herself. She was found a few days later by a wandering shifter, who helped raise her until she was able to last on her own. Then one day, he up and disappeared, and Grey ambled about on her own for the rest of her life. She doesn't fear much, but she learns from her mistakes and heads warnings she learned from her protector. She's come into contact a few times with others around the island, but her notorious habit of disappearing without warning has kept her aloof from the gatherings of shifters. This is strange, considering she adores the physical affection of others; however, back in her mind, she does believe that she brings sadness to those she likes, and so tries not to hang around them too much. Although naturally social, she's earned a reputation of a crazed roamer.

Character Name: Henderson

Age: Twenty Six

Sex: Male

Personality: Before the accident, he was a cheerful guy. A bit on the mellow, lazy side, but he was friendly and warm to his comrades. When others despaired, he comforted them and wrapped them in loving, friendly hugs. Especially the young ones, but even those older than him were still susceptible to his calmly affectionate nature. Since he wasn't much of a busy-body, Henderson wasn't all that apt at fighting. He was a peacemaker, a gentleman, and was fairly good at soothing riled spirits. Even at the fear of the Black Monster, he did not panic. Of course, he high-tailed it the heck outta there, but was not blinded by fear or alarm.

After the accident, Henderson became more introverted. He didn't talk much to anyone any more, and wandered off by himself a lot. Others started to give him hugs of reassurance instead of the other way around. Depression weighed him down heavily, until one day he disappeared from Carnal's group and lived by himself in the forest, mostly avoiding the other shifters if possible. He has since become a bit shy and nervous.

Animal Form: Giant Panda Bear

Description: Henderson stands about five foot five, a rather average height. Though he is not fat, he's got a solid body that looks better for hugging and snuggling than it does for fighting. He has some muscle tone in the upper arms and chest, but he's no sculpted model. His hair is thick and shaggy and reaches past his shoulders a few inches, where the tips are oddly dark. The rest of his hair is a soft gray-white, causing him to look far older than he truly is. Only his young face and skin are any indication of his age. The hair along his arms, legs, and bare chest is thick, soft, and black, like this. He also has very light blonde facial hair scruff around his jawline and chin, though it is thin and short. His marking are the black spots over his eyes, like the infamous Panda mask. This causes his eyes, which are a honey-hazel color, to stand out quite startlingly. His facial structure includes a strong jaw and wide nostrils, but the bridge of his nose is delicate and gives him a more innocent appearance rather than masculine. His dark brows arch perfectly to the shape of his shifter marking, causing them to blend somewhat. Henderson's skintone is a light, pale pink, and he tends to burn easily on his abdomen, face, and lower back.

Other: He is a first generation shifter. About ten years ago, he fell in love with another shifter and the two started a family. When his daughter was about four years old, the Black Monster made a rather thorough investigation of the camps Henderson lived at. Though he had moved his family to safety, many of the other shifters were killed in the aftermath. They decided to move to a safer location with the main group. Unfortunately, some of the shifters who had lost their family grew out of hand. During a fight between a lion and a black bear, the two crashed into an old tree trunk that was bent oddly. Henderson's family had set up their living quarters in a crude hut beneath the crook of that tree. Upon the impact, the tree fell and crashed into the family's home, crushing both his daughter and his wife to death. Though the lion and bear were banished, Henderson became wary of the others and eventually decided to live by himself, even if he had nothing else to lose.

Character Name: Hale

Age: 23

Sex: Male

Personality: Hale is the definition of masculine. Not only in looks but in personality as well. He's headstrong, stubborn, territorial and a bit temperamental. He does what he wants, when he wants and how he wants, uninterested in anyone else's opinion. He is unwaivering in his resolve and, if he sets out to do something, it will get done, no matter what the personal cost. Hale is also very smart but only in certain areas. In a fight, he is ruthless, cunning and brutal but his movements are smart, smooth and never wasted. He has a tendency to get wrapped up in himself. Of the people he cares for, Hale is very protective. He would do anything to keep them safe, provide for them and make sure their lives are happy. He would sacrifice his very life for them, if they asked. This side is never seen by anyone other than those he deeply trusts and loves. To everyone else, he comes off as the rebel. The aloof, mysterious one that is quiet but unquestionably strong.

This is why it's almost comical that he shifts into a small fox with overly large ears.

Animal Form Fennec Fox

Description: |X|

He always wears the bandages around his chest. They cover a nasty, jagged scar that runs from his right pec all the way around to the bottom of his ribs (back, left side). This is the only one of his scars that he covers. He wears a pair of jeans that have been cut off at the knee with a thick, brown belt that holds his knife. He also wears a pair of worn-out converse. His hair is long and dark brown, easily reaching his shoulder blades, but he always keeps it back in a ponytail. His eyes are dark green and he has a scar on his upper lip.

His marks is a medium sized paw print |X| on the left side of his neck.

Other: Hale is skilled with knives and small daggers. He is always carrying one. He has a weakness for blackberries.

Character Name: Sauda [sah-oo-da]

Age: 20

Sex: Female

Personality: Sauda is exactly like a lioness. She is regal and graceful, mature and wise for her young age but if you mess with someone she cares about, she'll tear you to shreds, more literally than not. She is a powerful huntress and fighter when she needs to be. She projects an aura of self-confidence and control, ever the even-tempered one, and she is quite serious nearly all the time. She is always wearing a calm expression but it's usually masking whatever she is feeling inside. She would never burden anyone else with what she is feeling and deals with her problems on her own, rather involve someone else. She is always strong, never weak, for she knows Jace looks up to her and she would never want to portray anything other then strength to him. She has taken upon herself to grow up fast, in order to care and provide for Jace, whose life she treasures above her own. She's very motherly, warm and affectionate toward him. He means more to her than the entire world and she is fiercely protective of him.

Sauda, despite all her efforts, is hardly the picturesque woman she appears to be. She's messed up on the inside, torn apart by the loss of her family and the pressures of protecting one so young, when she was barely old enough to survive herself. A flurry of thoughts and emotions are constantly stirring her mind and she's become all but an insomniac because of it. The sadness, anger, frustration and sheer desperation that rages inside will never register on her pretty face.

Animal Form Lioness

Description: Sauda is 5'9 with subtle curves but an otherwise lithe, wiry build. She has long, slender arms and powerful legs, that she keeps all but exposed to the world. Sauda wears very little clothing over her bottom half, normally only a loincloth of sorts that falls to mid-thigh. Since her breasts are just slightly too big for her body, she wraps them securely in a couple strips of cloth and knots the fabric in the back. Save for a few ankle bracelets, that's it. Her skin is somewhat tanned but roughened and scared from the years.

Sauda has thick, auburn hair that falls in wavy curls down her back, curling at the ends just under her chest. Several, single golden beads are woven into the red-brown strands, scattered about here and there. Along with the beads, there are a few, tightly woven braids. Her eyes, in similarity to her hair, are a dark, rum colored brown that are wide-set and framed by thick, heavy lashes. Her face is long, her nose small and narrow, and her jaw-line has a slight, squared shape.

Other: Sauda's shifter "mark" consists of two, small oval-ish places just the arch of her eyebrows. They're darker than her skin tone and almost look like two, identical birthmarks. [use this picture for reference. you can see them very well on this lioness |X|

Character Name: Jace

Age: 12

Sex: Male

Personality: Jace is the opposite of Sauda. He's bright, adventurous, loud and wild. He often runs ahead of her when they are out, eager to explore, so he is always a bit miffed when Sauda calls him back closer. He's very brave and will try anything once [be it climbing a tree, trying to jump a ravine, or even chasing an unknown animal] and sometimes Sauda has a hard time controlling him, especially now that he has gotten older and learned to shift. Jace is very friendly, though, and loves to be around other people, so, when they do find other to interact with, he gets very excited. Jace has a natural ability to charm everyone he meets but he also tends to attract trouble, purposely or otherwise. Jace, for all his rambunctious tendencies, is still quite innocent and sweet. Jace was very young when his mother died and the only one he's ever know is Sauda, who he still calls Mom. He knows now that she is too young to be his actual mother but that doesn't deter him from loving her unconditionally.

Animal Form Lion Cub

Description: Jace stands at about 4'11. He's scrawny but quick, though he is yet unable to outrun Sauda. He has messy, sandy blonde hair that Sauda keeps cut back out of his eyes and off his neck. This makes it a bit uneven, however, since she does it with her knife, so it often just hangs in shaggy layers. His eyes are bright blue, wide and innocent, and are very expressive. Jace still has most of his 'baby' features but they're starting to become more defined. His skin his almost the same color as Sauda's but, where her's is rough, his is smooth.

Jace's too big khaki shorts are held up by a belt, to which he's attached a small, sheathed knife. His pockets are constantly stuffed with things he collects from all over the island and are sometimes so full that they weigh his pants down. If not for Sauda, they'd slip right off and he'd never even notice, really not bothered by clothes. He does, however, cherish the boots that Sauda got for him a couple years back. They're worn and dirty but Jace wears them proudly. Sauda has caught him a number of times just wondering about in nothing but his prized boots.

Other: Sauda is not his mother but that is how he refers to her, since she is the one who raised him after his mother was killed. He just shifted for the first time about four months ago.

Jace's shifter mark is several, dark brown spots that run the length of his arm. They are similar to the rosettes found on the legs of lion cubs.

Character Name: Windfeather

Age: 20

Sex: Female

Personality: This young shifter is generally quiet and doesn't hold grudges. She looks at the world around as full of fascinating new things to discover, and she is very curious. Feather, as she prefers to be called, can be mischievous, but she rarely means anything by it. She is, however, very talented at jury-rigging tools and other items.

Animal Form Bald Eagle

Description:Owning to only average height in human form, Feather has a lean form. Her skin is a rich mahogany and her short hair is jet black. Her face is wide with high cheekbones and intense yellow eyes. She usually wears well made deer hide clothes, and carries a pouch on a cord round her neck. Her upper arms, from her shoulder blades to her elbows, are covered in tattoos of exquisitely detailed feathers. Windfeather keeps a couple knives and a small hatchet on her person for protection, and is quite skilled with her hunting bow.

Other: Feather has excellent sight during the day, but is effectively night blind.

Character Name: Beata (Bay-ta)

Age: 56

Sex: Female

Personality: Beata is generally kind and steady, but rather diffident and aloof. She has no particular need of company, and typically stays in her animal form, which virtually no one can seriously threaten. Provided that they don't startle her, smaller shifters and animals can approach and gambol about her, secure in the fact that predators won't dare attack her. So they're safe as long as they don't get under her feet or in the way of her horns. However, she does have a very . . . violent startle response, which generally results in the offender getting impaled.

Animal Form: This Black Rhino stands roughly six feet at the shoulder and is twelve feet long. The front horn measures two feet long, while the rear horn is ten inches in length. She weighs about 2400 pounds.

Description: Despite the great size and African origin of her animal-form, Beata's human shape is pale skinned and quite petite. She barely breaks 4'8" and doesn't weigh much more than 100 pounds. Her age only shows in the crow's feet about her gentle green eyes and in the hints of silver in her otherwise blazing red hair. She doesn't carry any weapons, and keeps various stashes of cloth around the island that she can fashion into a simple toga whenever she takes human form. Beata's mark is the silhouette of her own rhino-head on her left shoulder blade.

Other: Beata is quite possibly the oldest shifter on the island. She knows about the others, but doesn't go out of her way to associate with them. Or avoid them, for that matter. She has children, but they've all gone their own way.

Character Name: Leo

Age: 17

Sex: Female

Personality: Leo's usually pristine and calm, like the lethal hunter's form she possesses. However, if there is a whiff of blood on the air, or if Leo get's provoked enough, she'll definitely be willing to bite all of your limbs off and tear you apart without a second though. In the water she's deadly, posing even a thread to the crocodiles she shares the lake with. To her, the lake is her territory, and she's not gonna give any of it up without a fight. On land, however, she becomes easily startled and nervous, away from any sources of water in which she could flee. She can't transform on land, since she'd just be easy prey for anybody else. Leo is absolutely terrified of the black machine that whirls overhead over her lake. She's not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but she likes to prove her strength.

Animal Form:Leo takes on the form of a Glyphis gangeticus, or a Ganges Shark, which inhabits fresh water lakes and streams/rivers. Appearence: https://i.imgur.com/MX6ow.png

Description: Leo's skin is a clammy, almost grey-white color, with an slight sheen if the sun hits her skin just right. She has mud-colored hair, with extends halfway down her back and is always kept in a braid. Her tattoo is the jaws of a shark, circling around both sides of her neck like some kind of bizarre necklace, the teeth all pointing inward towards her throat. Her build is slim and graceful, yet she is clearly muscular. Her eyes are a grey-blue, with the pupils always seemed to be fully expanded, though she can see perfectly well. She barely covers herself with clothes, only a ragged pair of shorts and a filthy sleeveless ripped halter top. Around her wrists and ankles are bracelets made of the teeth of crocodiles.

Age: 15

Sex: Female

Personality: Mel is quiet and happy in her forest, easily using her snake form to lazily loop around tree branches and awaiting for any prey to wander out onto her branch. She likes the shade, since the sun isn't good for her, and she always desires some kind of company, but not in the usual way. Mel's idea of company is watching other shifters from afar, going about their everyday lives. Lonliness has turned her a little strange, but otherwise she's just fine. She's slow to anger, if anything, and has quite a lot of patience. Mel takes her time making decisions, and isn't one for charging into situations recklessly. However, remarks on her albinoness might trigger irritation. She considers it a rare gift.

Animal Form Albino Redtail Boa--> https://i.imgur.com/ef6Xl.jpg

Description: Mel has long, burgandy colored hair, with long streaks of pure white running through it. She has a bold face, with a small nose and even smaller lips. Her skin is unusally white, since her animal is an albino, and her human eyes are a pinkish-red, and the pupils are extremely dialated to shield her from the sun. Her whole body seems elongated and lithe, and her tattoo is a small pattern of scales on her right cheek. She seems to move like a dancer, or more like a snake, sometimes swaying back and forth as she walks in human form.

Character Name: Talio

Age: 17

Sex: Male

Personality: Talio is very gentle and soft-hearted, living peacefully with his small herd of deer in the semi-tropical forests. He does not like to harm any living thing, but sometimes he can be a bit too prideful and will try and compete, especially around the fall. He will, however, defend himself and his herd if any predators decide that they herd will make an easy meal. Talio likes to see every creature in his herd happy, and he cannot stand seeing another living thing suffer. He finds it pleasurable to play little games for the small fawns in his herd, and cannot think that as a human, he could eat those little bundles of energy. He despises all carnivoires, and if he meets a carnivoire shifter, Talio tends to maintain a cold shoulder towards them.

Animal Form: Black Stag-->https://i.imgur.com/vGGrn.jpg

Description: Talio is pretty small for his age, only about 5'7". He has chestnut locks of hair, with small black streaks, and soft, black doe eyes that have a piercing quality to them. He has the darker skin of a hispanic, and his tattoo is two small antlers on his forehead. The tips of his ears are just slightly pointed, and give him sort of a semi-elfish look. Talio clothes himself in nothing more than some scavenged shorts made out of tarp, and a carved wooden deer necklace arouind his neck, which he never takes off.

Character Name: Rin

Age: 17

Sex: Female

Personality: The only time she's not active is when she's sleeping or just waking up (which can be difficult, as she does love her sleep); when she's awake, it's like she's filled to the top with caffeine. Exactly what sort of hyperness she's experiencing can vary from extreme happiness to extreme, gritted-teeth, -I-will-strangle-you-now irritation. However, she rarely moves to violence and overall would prefer to be left alone, enjoying the island's natural beauty. Rin is extremely stubborn and will rarely go along with the plans and ideas of others if she has other thoughts on how to go about things. However, she's not stupid, so she'll heed the call of common sense should it be persistent enough. She cares very little about the structures and machines and, aside from curiosity getting the better of her a few times, avoids the areas where they are present.

Animal Form: Cassowary :D (Wiki link because they're fairly obscure.)

Description: In Rin's animal form, she's 5'10" and weighs 120 lbs; incidentally, she has the same height and weight in human form. Her animal mark is a red wattle marking slashing diagonally across her throat, making it look like she's been injured. Used to the protection offered to her in her animal form, she wears long jeans and heavy boots despite the jungle's heat. She does wear a brown tshirt as she's not impervious to the heat, but at times she straps on a pair of cobbled-together bark-and-vine armguards so that she can push through thick undergrowth easily. Her hair is bloo! black, raggedy, and short, and held in place by a bandanna.

Other: Her primary weapon is a good-sized lead pipe, though she keeps a shard of metal around to cut things.

Character Name: Rona

Age: 17

Sex: Female

Personality: Rona is quiet, but she is a wonderful listener. She hoards her secrets protectively. Rona doesn't say much, but she will act strongly in what she believes in. She lives with the clan and loves it because her greatest fear is being truly and completely alone. If you ask her, she'll tell you that the children are annoying and the adults even more irritable, but you can sense an underlying affection for both. When Rona speaks, she tends to be sharp-tongued and hot-headed, but in the end she truly cares about everyone around her.

Animal Form: Raven :)

Description: Rona is small and short. She has pale skin that looks like it takes on the color of moonlight. Her hair is a midnight black color, and if her hair is dark than her eyes are even darker. When you look into them, it appears like you're looking into a black hole. Her black hair reaches her shoulder blades and cuts off jaggedly like the teeth of a jack-o' lantern. Dark bangs cut across her forehead and stay right above her pitch-black eyes. She has an angular and delicate face. Rona is lithe and fast. She has the build of a runner with small yet muscular legs and thin, but strong, arms. She has the mark of a black wing on the small of her back. Rona wears a black tank top and gray running shorts that have torn over the time they've been on the island. For some reason, she wears a twisted bracelet made of flowers and weeds on both of her wrists.

Other: She is part of the second-generation Shifters and carries a small dagger strapped to her thigh.

Character Name: Fyre

Age: 15

Sex: Female

Personality: Fyre is somewhat shy and only voices her opinion occasionally. If she has strong feelings about something then she will always defend her point, unless she feels very threatened. When she feels threatened she will try to hide, and if she can't she will pretend she is very powerful and hopes she will scare away whoever threatens her. If you are kind to her, then she will come more out of her shell and when she is like that she is a really good friend. She is very dedicated to her friends, since she has few, and will do anything for them. She prefers to be awake during night, but she can sometimes be seen during the day. Fyre is very particular about weather and likes it when temperatures are just right, not too cold, not too hot.

Animal Form:Red Panda!

Description: Fyre is a very small size for her age. She has a very lean body and dark, almost black eyes. Her fluffy hair goes down past her waist is mostly burnt orange with a few blonde highlights like the tail of the animal she changes into. (This is her marking) She typically wears it in a ponytail, but occasionally she can be found with it down. Her arms are shorter than normal people's and she walks with a small waddle in her step. She prefers to wear comfy t-shirts and jeans, and if she has to wear something else she will take it off as soon as possible and put on more comfortable clothes. She has something against jewelry and refuses to wear any at all.

Character Name: Rukai (Kye for short.)

Age: 18

Sex: Female

Personality: Rukai is generally a very calm person. She keeps a straight emotion in the face of danger and panic. When she does become angry, it's the small things that set her off; asking, "What," once too often, or tapping fingers that are half-a-decibel too loud. She is not one to hold a grudge, no matter how much she tries too. Rukai is not usually very likable, but she places the blame on others for this. Her ideal friend is one that completely accepts her how she is, and is completely loyal. Even though she doesn't have very many friends, she likes to stay around others. Until, that is, it becomes too chaotic. She's sometimes very spooky and quick to strike when frightened.

Animal Form: Reindeer This one to be exact.

Description: In her animal form, she is large for her age, and looks as if she should be older. The majority of her body is white, but with small chocolate spots littering her pelt. Her antlers are slightly pink and are more blunt than most's.

As a human, she stands medium height, about 5'7, with a light-to-medium build. She is more lean than many, but muscular. Even if she does not appear so, she is extremely strong. Plain brown hair hangs down her back, reaching about the middle. The underside of her hair is pitch white, and almost never seems to become dirty. Rukai's eyes are very odd. They are dark brown, essentially, but they are such a shade, the look blue from a certain angle and light. She has a square-er face and bold features. Her mark is a dark hoof-print (from a reindeer, obviously) on the back of her left thigh. She usually wears a tighter 'spaghetti-strap' tank top, with very short shorts, purposely exposing her mark.

Other: The bottom of her feet are extremely callused, allowing her to go barefoot everywhere, and anywhere; even into places no other would dare to go, because the terrain is just too rough. Instead of running normally, she'll hop on the balls of her feet. Even though she is strong, her muscular endurance outweighs her strength. 2nd generation shifter.

The shifters themselves are usually spread out over the island, and some have no idea that others of their kind exist. There are around fifty in total, with a small group near the east-most side of the lake. They have various different forms, but they only have one that they discover during their adolescent years.

Awkward last sentence.

The animals that they turn into are perfectly normal, with no added strength or abilities. The single difference is the human mind within the creature and the intelligence – or lack thereof – that comes with it.

Typo.

Also, you might want to add a section for what animal they shift into to the character form skeleton.

Question. Can shifters communicate with each other while transformed? Or do they also acquire the language of the animal they transform into?

Interesting. Perhaps you could put a bit more detail about how they were turned in to shifters? Or maybe a bit more detail on first generation?

And also, if they don't know that others of their kind exist, then what about parents and reproduction? You put "first generation", so what about the second generation of them? Where did they come from?

That's loads better, Wonderbubbles. I think you might need to include the fact that those few shifters who have encountered another have made families, and there are second generation shifters...

Brittle twigs crackled softly as a bare pair of feet dashed across the forest floor. A shadow weaved between the tree trunks, lithe and swift, ducking under low hanging branches and leaping with utmost skill over fallen logs and debris. There was minimal noise as she passed through, thus she hardly went noticed the closer to the plains her scarred feet carried her. As the trees began to thin and break into the grassy meadows, the tall figure stooped under a thick mat of foliage and stared between the leaves with bright, earth-colored eyes. Standing amongst the waving blades of yellowed grass were several tall, muscular creatures with their heads lowered to the ground to graze. The figure in the trees admired the horses' supreme grace and beauty, even from as far from them as she was.

However, as she studied the herd, something dark in the sky caused her gaze to flit upwards. Amongst the sparse clouds was a small, black creature that drew closer at impressive speeds. The figure pressed herself against the tree trunk and gripped the leather handle of her whip- her only weapon, and the one she was quite talented utilizing. Any threat she faced met the savage lash of her whip, and it would be no different if the object in the heavens posed danger to her survival.

A moment or two had passed before it drew close enough for her to distinguish its features. Pumping wings were not what she would be cautious of- thus, the hawk was simply ignored, and the raven-haired amazon resumed her examination of the wild horses. The wind began to pick up slightly and rustle the grass, bending back the long stalks into wheat-colored arches. The woman, hardly clad in anything but tattered shreds of cloth, crept forwards on her knees so that her eyes were barely peering over the dancing grasses. None of the horses noticed her there; with a smile turning at the corner of her mouth, her eyes fluttered closed and a pinched expression of concentration overcame her tanned face. Although she had taken a deep breath prior, she held it fast now and tensed. Her jaw clenched tightly and her hands grasped the soil with increasing strength as the bones beneath her scarred flesh started to move. Flashes of pain spiked through her spine and limbs and she held feebly onto a startled gasp. No matter how many times she'd gone through a transformation, she was always surprised with the amount of agony that twisted at her nerves. Her breaths were released sharply and in quick bursts, but as her jaw and mouth started to reshape and her lungs deepen, her breathing sounded low and ragged. The woman's skin rippled as dark color surfaced, only to be shortly followed by ebony hairs that sprouted over every inch of her reforming body. Her hair shortened slightly but the roots lengthened out from her skull down the back of her arcing neck. A broad muzzle pulled out from her lips and nose, with wide, flaring nostrils that pumped pained snorts. Both ears rose from the side of her head until they were nearly atop of her cranium, now triangular in shape with pointed and furred ends. They swiveled around a few times, testing out the range of sound that accompanied the metamorphosis.

Oddly enough, the largest shift went the quickest. Her arms and legs grew long and bony with rock-hard hooves to stamp at the ground. Muscular, rounded flanks formed at her rear and a wide barrel expanded from her ribs. Lastly, a ribbon-like tail whipped out from her hindquarters and lashed fiercely at the air. As her shift completed, the glossy black horse rose from the earth and tossed her head, letting loose a piercing whinny of triumph. The other horses looked up to investigate, and upon seeing the new arrival grunted and snorted with curiosity. As a few of the older, superior males trotted closer to her, the black mare pinned her ears and barred her white enamels in warning. One stallion crept slightly closer, but upon noticing his movement the mare lunged for him. Her tail cut across her back legs impatiently as the males returned to their grazing spots, content enough to leave the aggressive female to her liking.

The dark horse gave a satisfied exhale through her nostrils, and lowered her muzzle to munch delightedly at the straw.

((XD She can't even stand male animals? Oh my. x3

Oh, and, Dark Realm. c:))

A languid figure was sprawled over a low tree branch, on her back with one arm thrown over her eyes. One leg dangled off the branch, in the shadow cast by the limb of the tree, while the body attached to the leg lay in the sunlight. Short, orange locks draped down one side of her bronze face, curling gently at the tips. The little woman was asleep, away in the world of dreams, and her expression was slack and peaceful. Her wide lips were parted slightly, revealing a sliver of glinting, white teeth and a dark mouth.

((Gah, pressed tab, then enter. >-<))

There was a light giggle from the ground below. The woman's ears twitched, but she stayed motionless. Then there was another giggle and a soft shushing; it was closer, though. Her lips closed and curved into a tiny smile. Another giggle, from beneath her branch this time. Before the cubs could tickle her foot, like so many times before, she had pulled it up and flipped into a crouch in one fluid movement. A chorus of disappointment emanated from beneath her while she let out a peal of laughter.

"How'd you hear us, Stripe?" a young male asked.

"Oh, I was just pretending to sleep," the woman lied, hanging her upper half over the branch. She didn't have the heart to tell the cubs that they were really noisy.

In an almost lazy, graceful movement, she leapt from the tree, landing easily on her feet, facing the two young males. She grinned at them, beckoning playfully with a bronze hand. With delighted giggles, they raced toward her. Not wasting any time, Stripe bounded - slower than usual, for the cubs - through the trees behind her. The boys thudded after her, smashing through the jungle. She moved slow enough for them to keep her in sight, but fast enough so they couldn't easily catch her.

The grass rustled softly at her long legs as she moved through it, her mouth catching large bundles of the yellow weeds as she passed. Both ears continually rotated around, seeking danger and keeping alert for hidden threats. Although she was at ease, especially with the general calm of the horse herd around her, there was also more reason for her to be more cautious than the oblivious wild creatures that offered her protection. Lifting her black cranium to survey the flatlands a moment, an ear flickered and swiveled towards the side. There was a faint, barely audible sound of what seemed to be laughter, and a flurry of movement that was anything but graceful and stealthy. The mare's nostrils flared open and drank in the swaying wind, but the source of the unruly noise was too far away to be scented.

The dark horse turned her head and glanced back towards the trees she had come from, where she had left her whip behind. She would go back and find it later, as it could not go with her in transformation. Her instincts didn't feel triggered by the queer noises in the other trees, thus the horse dipped her soft muzzle downwards and snatched up another mouthful.

Giggles, this time, she was sure of it. Both ears pressed in that direction and her amber eyes fixated squarely on the opposite lining of trees. Some of the other horses had noticed at this point and lifted their heads in a similar fashion. They didn't seem particularly alarmed, however, and after a few moments returned to their feasting.

The woman-horse shifter had a piqued curiosity, however. Although she was far from having an affinity for humanoid creatures, she wondered what exactly would be so enticing and delightful for such obvious blunderings. Giving her silky tail a quick snap against her flanks, the mare eased into a smooth walk, ears forwards on alert.

((Aww, alright. x3

...How do you pronounce that? The first bit of your OoC? XD))

The running woman let loose another peal of bell-like laughter, leaping over a fern and dodging around several saplings. The children behind her ducked underneath the fern and blundered through the small trees. She grinned and glanced around herself. How could she make the game interesting? Through the trees to her right, she could see the grasslands with the grass swaying calmly. To her left, a swift river, rushing fiercely, much too dangerous for little cubs.

Stripe swerved to her right, dancing around the trees gracefully and leaping out onto the plains. There were surprised exclamations from the two boys, then excited giggles as they followed her past the tree line. She slowed for a moment, allowing them to catch up. They were almost close enough to tough her, now. Then she loped out of their reach, laughing happily. With a quick glance she knew exactly where everything was on the plain.

She saw the group of wild horses, probably uneasy about the shifter's presence. After all, Stripe was a predator. There was something odd, though, because one of the equines was walking in their direction. The little woman slowed to a walk and was abruptly tackled by two giggling boys. She chuckled and made a show of being out of breath (though she wasn't). Her hazel-gold eyes were on the black horse, while she smiled and laughed for the cubs.

Roo got her answer quicker than she expected. One hoof was suspended in the air, ready to return to the earth, when a short orange-haired woman and a pair of children came bursting out of the trees. The horse paused completely, her eyes locked on the older of the three. Although her ears were pressed forwards, she couldn't help but feel a familiar bubbling anger at the sight of the humanoid. If she had been a predator herself, Roko would have growled. But, alas, she was a horse, and horses did not make such strange sounds.

Instead, the mare's lip peeled back to reveal the gleaming white teeth behind. A harsh bray exploded from her lungs and the horse reeled backwards onto her hind legs, neck arched and ears pinned deep into her ebony mane. Her forehooves struck out wildly in the air and her maw jerked upwards at the sky in a chaotic toss, sending a whirl of charcoal hairs spiraling and slapping against her thick neck and shoulders. Then, dropping sharply to the ground, the mare launched herself with her powerful legs towards the small group, jaws gnashing together and head flinging dangerously about.

(Uh... "Bewuh"? Dunno, made it up. x3)

A copper-tan streak shot through various parts of the forest in quick bouts in search of something. Beautiful bronze eyes were visible for mere moments when the creature paused to ascertain its target was still present before disappearing again in a quick flash. Sometimes one would hear a soft pat pat pat with the creature's rapid footfalls as it moved before they'd halt completely and then resume again. Finally the steps ceased for what seemed an unseemly amount of time. The sound to be heard was a crash of brush and the dying cries of some large bird as the creature clamped massive jaws around its body and pinned it with paws the size of large hands. The creature finally became visible as a mountain lion as it dragged its prey out into a sunny clearing to begin eating.

When te meal was finished the lion rolled over on its back against a tree in a unbelieveably human position before something happened. The moutain lion shifted forms, becoming a beautiful young woman with blood red hair and emerald green eyes. Most inerestingly was the fact that her ears were slightly pointed, like an elf's but not quite as much. As she laid back against a tree, she pulled a large knife from her left hip and ran the razor sharp blade before her eyes with a contented sigh. Her name was Rustung, a inhabitant of the island.

The young girl leaped through the trees, only pausing a moment to keep her balance. Her hair, tied up in a long braid down her back, followed behind her, like a tail. Leaping into the next tree, she stopped and crouched on the huge branch. Dirt covered her face and her body, but her exhilarated smile and bright hazel eyes showed her pride. Her eyes shifted to the black mare below her, about 25 yards away. She studied the the horse, she'd seen the transformation. Her eyes narrowed subtly and she pulled out her bow. Drawing back the arrow shaft she aimed and let the arrow whistle through the air. A squeak and a drop confirmed her hit. She saw the small fox hit the ground the same moment she began to leap down from the tree. Pulling out her knife and pulling her bow over her shoulder, she finished off the whimpering creature.

Satisfied with her hunt for now, she ripped the arrow out of the fox and put it back her in holder and picked up her prey. She walked away, the twigs cracking and breaking underneath her bare feet. The tall girl grinned and leaped into a tree. Sitting down, her hands melt into paws, light brown fur covering her legs and body. A tail sprouts, growing out the same length as her body. In no time at all, a puma holding her prey appears in the place of the human girl. Letting out a yowl, the puma travels by tree to her den, a cave with a fire in the middle. Suddenly her fur disappears, the tail and puma with it. All is left is Avery, the 17 year old inhabitant of the cave. Adding some wood to the fire, she sat down and began to skin the animal.

When she finished, she stabbed a piece of sharpened wood through it's body and held it over the fire. About an hour later Avery dug in and ate the fox, her hunger dulled for now.

Laying down on the cold floor, she watched the sun move in the sky. She picked up her weapons and headed out to look for wood. Moving along the the rocks, she yelped as she stepped on a sharp stone. Grumbling angrily, Avery shifted into her puma form and loped along gracefully, heading farther into the forest. The sound of her paws hitting the ground delighted her and she stopped suddenly as she passed a fallen tree. Clambering on top of the fallen trunk, she saw many small tree limbs and took them in her mouth.

Panting around the wood, Avery eyed the area cautiously. Her body disappeared suddenly as she leaped into the tree and sat on a thick branch, watching the area carefully before heading back to camp. Her silvery brown pelt barely showed through the leaves as she jumped from tree to tree, racing the sun back to her den. When she finally reached the cave, she lied down the wood and shifted back, her braid laying on the floor as she added the wood to the fire. She yawned lightly and lied down, watching the sun sink down the horizon.

((Dun worry, I wouldn't shoot you Haze))

Not far away to the east, a shadow moving very fast through the forest makes his way through. To the untrained eye it would look like a blurr because of how fast it's swinging, but to a well-trained eye, it would look like a large monkey. It's tail whipping ahead to catch the next tree limb as it flips in the air. The weight of the weapons and minimal armor on it give it more speed as it swings through the trees. I need to find some fruit and quick, getting hungry. He thought. He finally found a decent size tree that was bearing very ripe and fresh fruit. The monkey lands on one of the tree's arms, making screeching noises. As the screeching goes on, the monkey changes into a human form, the hair all over his body retracts, except for on his head where it only shortens a little. The hands on his legs shift into feet, the mouth retracts back into the skull, the nose converts out and the back of the skull retracts, reforming a human head. The screeching changes to the yelling of a man. "Rrrraaahhh!!!"He shouted as he finished his shapeshift. He looked up at the fruit on the tree. "finally, lunch. Getting tired with all of this swinging around." He reached up and grabbed a couple pieces of fruit, sitting down on the tree branch to eat.

The big, black horse curled its lip back. Stripe immediately knew it was a threat; she leapt to her feet and ordered the two cubs to run to the trees. They stared at her for a moment, not moving, until she growled at them with her already changing vocal cords. Then they were gone; running and stumbling through the long grass of the plains. She eyed the horse, who had reared and started galloping toward her. Was there enough time to shift? But it was too late to stop now.

As the sun began to set, bathing the island in golden-orange light, Stripe was on all fours and trembling. Bones cracked and reformed, muscles tore and rippled into place. The small woman dug her fingers into the soil, keeping her changing eyes on the charging horse. Soon enough, a Sumatran tiger was crouching in the grass, whipping her tail back and forth. The horse was swinging its head about and she wasn't sure how it could see straight.

The small tiger bounded through the grass, moving toward the trees. If the horse saw she was leaving, would it leave her alone? The wind wafted a scent her way; the cubs were too close, probably in the tree line. She yowled in irritation, then changed her course for the far end of the plains. There was another line of trees there, but she could hear the river roaring beyond them. With a growl of frustration, she had to slow down, for she was running out of breath. Tigers weren't meant to sprint long distances. They were only supposed to manage short bursts of speed. For the first time in her life, Stripe wished she were a cheetah.
