Cats

Recommended Posts

I have two cats Jemma and Pearl, one lives at mums with me and the other lives at my dads house, but she's still mine.

Jemma is a GORGEOUS almost fully black moggie, strangely enough, when she had kittens she had a daughter who was a carbon copy of herself, two tuxedo cats (one grey and one black), and a Seal Point who grew to twice her size.

Pearl is a Ragdoll whom which I got from a R.S.P.C.A. and she has a buggered eye. She is the boss of my dads house (even over the dog (Hamma), who is a Rottweiler cross).

I love both my cats and wouldn't give them up for the world!

I like cats but I have three dogs, one of which just gave birth to seven puppies. I think getting a cat is out of the question. rolleyes.gif

I have an unexplained attraction to hairless cats. I find them beautiful, somehow.

I currently am in possession of two chihuahua-mixes. Their 11 years old. I'm pretty sure their mission in life is to make me insane.

I'll also hopefully be getting a Mexican Black Kingsnake. :D Hopefully before August (at least, my dad promised before August. :L). I'm hoping to get a male. x3 Having some issues finding places to buy one, though. D:

One of these. They're little beauties. <3

I went to my friend's house today to feed their two dogs because they're going out of town. After being with their horrible dogs, I felt lucky to have my sweet dogs. >.< My friend's dogs are very hyper and they are sheep dogs. They are meant to be living on a ranch, where they have more space to roam, but instead they live in a small backyard... It obviously isn't doing them very well, because they have so much energy to burn off. dry.gif Trying to take care of them was hell, because they always pounced on me! mad.gif

You find a Gif image on the internet, then add it into your post as a normal image.

ie.

@Tikindi, if you're around. I saw you talking about the FeLV vaccine in another thread, and I was wondering what you're thoughts on vaccinating indoor-only cats (in single-cat households) is. Do you think it's worth it or not?

Waaaaay past my bed time when you posted that wink.gif

Wouldn't consider it worth it, myself. My moggie is vaccinated, because he goes out, the siamese at Mum's are not because they don't.

lol, I figured you'd see it eventually. xd.png I'm not really sure how much further ahead you English posters are. xd.png

Thanks for the advice. My moggie has to stay indoors so I had been thinking about it. I haven't had him tested yet and the shelter doesn't routinely test, though.

Probably doesn't help you guys that I go to bed early by my time anyway. I tend to be in bed at 9pm GMT because both of us have very early starts in the morning. *shrugs*

You probably don't even need to bother testing him unless a) the shelter say's he's been a stray or B) you're planning on getting another cat.

There can be a slight risk to not vaccinating if your cat ever escapes the house and goes missing, so you'd need to make a judgement call on how likely that is (for example - do you have small kids coming over that might not realise they can't let hte cat out kinda thing). If you think it's unlikely the cat will ever get out to go roaming then the reason for not vaccinating is the cat's stress levels - they don't like going to the vet. They don't like being in the car. They don't like the waiting room. And they certainly don't like being stuck full of needles. It's quite a yearly stress-fest (plus expensive) to keep a cat vaccinated. Which is why I'd always say if they're indoor, don't bother.

I'm going to test him, because he was a stray. He's about three years old and we don't know any of his history before that. I'll have to think pretty seriously about vaccinations; my brother is almost seven but he doesn't remember to keep the door closed all the time and my cat has already made a break for it once (into a hailstorm, honestly...).

Interestingly he had a rather good time at the vet. He's very outgoing and came straight out of the carrier to give the room a good exploring. I was surprised because that isn't what I expected but the vets were certainly happy to not have to pry him out of the carrier. xd.png He had like four vets loving on him. True to form though he wasn't too pleased with the actual examination once they had to hold him still for some time.

He doesn't seem to mind the car much either. xd.png

I have 3 cats, but you reaaaallly have to watch out for them when they get at it with their little games.

Chasing each other down the hallway, rough fights, the such.

But they are soooo cute.

The black one being laid on is named Boots. She is really fluffy, and her face and paws are slightly darker than her body. She's the one who instigates most fights. Her meows are really high pitched like a squeak, and it sounds soooo cute. :3

The black one on top is names Shadow, she's the snoopiest of the three, and she is obsessed with trying to get our Oscar named Oink. Sometimes she gets some rough spankies, depending on how bad she is being.

The gray one is Tiger, and she hates being held. Her tail is extremely fluffy. She chases shadow lots of times, and likes to sleep up hig: On the very top of my huge desk or on top of the bin on my dad's bookshelves, which is nearly a foot taller than my desk.

They all like to be in windows, and they all rush in when the water is turned on or food is being poured. When I use the bathroom, Shadow always rushes in to watch me do my business. Since they like water so much, I wonder what they will do once we get my bathroom's tub and shower fixed. Maybe they will come take a visit.

EDIT: Removed image tags. Holy crap that's a huge image. O_O

Thanks. biggrin.gif They are much older now. Tiger has gotten a bit on the chubby side. xd.png Boots is still the smallest, and still has the fluffiest cheeks.

I sleep with her sometimes. Under the covers, too. She loves it. laugh.gif

I've been approved to foster animals, and have been contacted by the Iowa City animal shelter to see if I would foster either a pair of kittens from one litter or three kittens from another litter. I'm new to fostering and have never owned a kitten, but have had an adult cat and, more recently, an adult dog - I'm currently without a pet. The foster period is only for four to six weeks, so I'll probably swing by the shelter after work tomorrow and discuss it with the animal care specialist before deciding whether I'll foster one of these groups or if I should wait.
