Got to 14.2k tonight (almost 2k in a little over half an hour). I love Scrivener. I only meant to get what was necessary for tonight. <3

And now I have to go study for my two tests tomorrow morning!

Good luck all! You can do it! *passes around hot chocolate*

Sorry to hear about your hand, Kestra. That sucks! D:

Oh my god... this thing is taking over my life! When I'm not writing I actually miss my characters! O.o

Anywhooo, need to make 15K today to stay on track, shouldn't be too hard

I was very naughty and wrote nothing yesterday.

But I just managed to reach 15,100 words exactly, (I started at 12,224.)

Now to get 3 hours of sleep. YAY! /sarcastic

I'm so far behind. -_-' Every time I try to work on it, I start falling asleep. D:

And I just don't have time to work on it as much between school and work, since I just can't focus in my downtime because I'm so dang tired...

Anybody have any tips for catching up?

Thirding this. I'm supposed to hit 15k today, right, and I'm barely at 8.5k...

I'm late to the party, but here I be! I didn't start until day 5 and I just hit 10k words, so I think I can I think I can.

As for catching up, well, I can only write after my kids have gone to bed, so it has been determined that November will be a sleep-deprived month. sleep.gif I just tend to write until 1 or 2 in the morning and grumble when my kids wake me up 5 hours later. xd.png

Good luck everyone!

I just have to force myself to sit down and write. I plan out what I want to write that day and don't let myself sleep until I've finished.

I find that if I know what's going to happen next (at least in the short term) then it's a lot easier to reach my word target.

There's also a lot of self-bullying that goes on in my head O.o

I'm starting late- just yesterday I began!

Biggest roadblock so far is researching. I'm doing some sci-fi!

Unfortunately, you have to pay for it - however it has a month free trial. Perfect for one NaNo. (My grandparents bought it for me two Christmas' ago.)

Advice

  • Eat something, drink something, then sit down to write without those. You'll spend more time eating and drinking than writing, lol.
  • Turn off the internet.
  • Full screen whatever writing program you're using. It's also not a bad idea to minimize anything else you have up.
  • If must helps you, turn on some music. Write for as long each song goes. Or put on a playlist and don't stop writing until it's done.
  • If you write better in silence, hide in your closet and write. =P
  • If you're stuck in a rut, move onto a different scene. You don't have to write your book in order!
  • Set up a reward for yourself. Make some muffins or gather some Halloween candy. Write for x amount of time or for x amount of words. You can't get up and get your treats (placed in another room) until you've met your goat.
  • If you get stuck, get up and do some jumping jacks, dance to a song, run around the block. Now get back to writing.
  • It's best if you can get a program that doesn't constantly display your word count. You'll focus more on that instead of writing.
  • Send your characters to the circus. Have them find a talking dog. Have them bump into an antagonist. Make them emotional. Something exciting to get you going. You can always edit it out during National Novel Editing Month. In fact, don't edit now. Now is for writing.
  • If you can, get a routine going - set down a time to write every day that is the same time.
  • The best piece of advice I can give you? Just write! Don't stop, even if it's crap. Bust through it and you'll get somewhere.
Now, I could probably burst out more tips and prompts and programs if you need, but in the end, what needs to be done is you sitting down and getting it done. I can give you all the help I can, but you're the one that's going to get it done. ;3

Good luck, all! <3

EDIT: Oh, and here's a quote I love that always inspires me:

“I believe that the so-called “writing block” is a product of some kind of disproportion between your standards and your performance ... one should lower his standards until there is no felt threshold to go over in writing. It’s easy to write. You just shouldn’t have standards that inhibit you from writing ... I can imagine a person beginning to feel he’s not able to write up to that standard he imagines the world has set for him. But to me that’s surrealistic. The only standard I can rationally have is the standard I’m meeting right now ... You should be more willing to forgive yourself. It doesn’t make any difference if you are good or bad today. The assessment of the product is something that happens after you’ve done it.”

17,020 words so far. I've only written 200 today, because I had school then I was lazy. And I'm slightly writer blocked.

Broke 11k about two minutes ago, going to keep writing until my download finishes. Glee (for me) is a great motivation, since I don't let myself watch it until I've hit my goal!

Wrote less than 1k words to get a little above what was necessary for today. Have a lab I need to work on that is more important. x3

Good job to anyone who has written anything, even if you're behind!

I'm really behind - only around 7000 words right now Dx I have a bunch of benchmarks/tests so no NaNo-ing right now. Hopefully I can get down to business on that during the 3-day weekend.

I just broke the 10k word count mark and am slowing down. I'm distracting myself, which is bad... So back to it.

Keep it up guys! The month is only 1/3 of the way through!

14k and counting right now. I'm going to try and get 3k over the weekend, maybe even per day, so I can get to the halfway point on the 15th. If I keep going like this I'll be behind .-.

How did you get the widget in your signature? I'm confused on how to use them, since I know most places want the bbcode (or whatever it's called).

Copy the URL from the HTML and put that in your signature, and then use the proper IMG tags.

I got around 1.1k words. Not bad from a late starter?

Bluh, I spent four hours researching. But I finally realized 5g forces mean that the gravity is stronger than Jupiter's.

I just tried write or die. OMG. I wanted to throw my comp across the room.

I found that I do not write well with something like that. I need time to figure things out and OMG, I HATE pressure.

I'm glad it worked for you Socky, but all it did was stunt my creativity and tick me off.

I only managed to get 130 words before I was all EEEEEEEEE, let me out of here!

I cut what I had and exited out the web page before it could scream at me.
