    Where's your name from?

I've seen some pretty creative names here, and I'd like to know how you thought of them! My forum name is the name of a Green Day song, and it's also been my nickname for awhile. My scroll name is less creative... it's just my name with Bill Kaulitz's last name.

    Green Day

Sorry if this is a duplicate, but search only came up with "Green Day vs. Paramore." So... what do you guys think? They're my favorite band right now. I like all of their songs, though I prefer their older stuff and American Idiot. And I'm going to their concert on monday!

I thought there was a thread for this, but I searched and nothing came up. What languages do you speak (or are learning to speak)? I speak English (obviously ). I'm learning German in school, and teaching myself Na'vi and Romani. I also want to learn Japanese and Romanian (the list keeps changing.)

    Gender and Gender Identity

Am I the only trans person who is uncomfortable with using "natal ____"? Personally it just feels like people saying "well you're this gender now but you were born ____." No, I was born male. I was assigned the wrong gender at birth. I'm not saying it's necessarily wrong to use it- if it's what you're comfortable with, all power to you! But am I weird for not feeling comfortable with the term at all?

    Gender and Gender Identity

I'm not really sure I understand... I am a man (for the most part) at heart. That is how I identify. But I'm not cis.

    Gender and Gender Identity

Except it's possible to have strictly one type of genitalia, and a different set of internal reproductive organs (or parts of both.) Or one type of genitalia and another type/different number of sex chromosomes. Or one type of genitalia and your body produces the hormones typical of another sex. All of those would be considered intersex, but each combination also falls in a different part of the spectrum.

    Gender and Gender Identity

It's really a bit more complicated than that! Sex isn't really "so this is definitely male, this is definitely female, and everything else is intersex." It's on a spectrum, much like gender. Sex is determined by multiple factors: chromosomes, internal reproductive organs/gonads, genitalia, and hormones. What we define as "male" and "female" are really just the most typical combinations (or enough of them grouped together to assign one of those sexes). However, multiple other combinations are possible. Usually they're grouped together as intersex but are really a wide variety of biological sexes. https://www.plannedparenthood.org/learn/sex...e-male-intersex <For some more reading.

    DC Photography Contest #114

Since it's almost Halloween, I figured it's a good time to show off your photos of scary things. What are you afraid of? Dark spaces? Spiders? Or maybe you've captured someone else's fear on camera. Example (using a stock photo because I actually found nothing in my photos O_o) I think you guys can get pretty creative with this one! The rules: - One entry per person - Picture has to be made by yourself and can't be just a reproduction of someone's work. If someone else's work is in the picture, there needs to be something extra. - No manipulation besides basic photo adjustments (contrast, exposure, cropping, color balance, lighting, etc.) - No text or framing in the photo. A signature/watermark is just fine, but it's preferable if you don't have "O Hai Eye Hav3 T3XT" (or something similar) present in the photo. - When voting, please don't select your own image. This will ensure fairness. - You are free to submit an old photo; you don't need to take a new one just for this competition. Deadline: October 31st Previous themes: 1: Beginning anew 2: Simplicity 3: Summer 4: Wildlife 5: Black & White 6: Food 7: Macro 8: Farewell 9: Light and Shadow 10: Urban 11: In the home 12: Travel Photography 13: Pets 14: Red 15: Coupled Animals 16: Clouds 17: Green 18: Water 19: Scenic views 20: Invertebrates 21: Sunrise/Sunset 22: Purple 23: Out of Context 24: Snow 25: Flowers 26: Mountains 27: Old 28: Birds 29: Inanimate Objects 30: New Life 31: Play 32: Road 33: Leaves 34: People 35. Gender and Gender Identity

Some states also require you to have lived in the same county for a certain amount of time. And get fingerprinted, which costs money to get done AND to file. The judge also asked me if my name change was because I'm trans... not sure how legal that is; it's really none of his business.

    d/Deaf/Hard of Hearing

Searched, and did not find a similar post, sooo... Anyone else here who is d/Deaf/HoH? I'm curious, and I figured why not have a space where we can all discuss our experiences. Myself, I'm HoH, been so since almost a year ago. I got really sick, and the infection spread to my right ear and permanently damaged my cochlea. I have a little residual hearing left in it but now I have to depend on my left ear and lipreading to understand speech. (and lipreading is a HUGE pain in the censorkip that will need a post all on its own, when I have the words.) I've also been trying to pick up ASL, though that doesn't help much when I know maybe two people who know a few signs. Please, let's not play the "not d/Deaf enough" game; how someone with hearing loss identifies is their concern alone. Also, for the difference between d/D, here's a link.

    d/Deaf/Hard of Hearing

I did! It helps a lot when I'm talking to people. Still have the same problems with background noise though; I don't think that's going away. Not very comfortable though

    d/Deaf/Hard of Hearing

How fun, my roommate thinks I'm lying about being HoH because he keeps me up at night playing video games, even when he's talking at a normal volume and across the apartment. I can't really get through his head that a) I still have hearing in my left ear and it fluctuates, there's no background noise at night and c) I can tell the difference between talking and not talking, the HoH part means I can't UNDERSTAND him. Hearies sometimes! >_< In other news, I'm going to a Deaf game night/lunch thing tomorrow. I've never been to a Deaf event before, so any advice?

    Gender and Gender Identity

But asking for pronouns isn't misgendering?? I see it as the opposite - you're asking so you can avoid misgendering them. I'm with Sock & would definitely prefer someone asking me my pronouns than assuming the wrong ones. I'd even prefer it over someone not asking for fear of offending me. It should be a normal part of introductions, whether you're cis or trans.

    Emotional Support

*hugs all around* Monday was supposed to be my court hearing to legally change my name. I thought it was going to be approved no problem, but apparently I'd been living just south of the county line for half a year, and in this state you're required to live in the same county for a year. So, name change was denied, and I'm stuck with my birth name until bleeping May. I could barely last the two months it took for all the legal stuff to go through... my birth name contributes to my dysphoria, and it's only gotten worse since it got denied. I don't know how I'm going to find the strength to deal with it.

Hey, something we can agree on! While I wouldn't say I don't value children, I would not be able to cope with the psychological damage that that less than a year would give me, so I hope I never get pregnant either! It really is though? A fetus does not have bodily autonomy, while a baby or child does.
