  1. @Mow

I'll report it for you. ;)

    Travelling Europe !

    Travellers involved: Mow, Beldarius

Capitals travelled: Nicosia, - (ticket to Helsinki will be given out as soon as possible) or (no ticket needed in return)

I'm not entirely sure if Beldarius wants to go to see more of Helsinki, but I hope so.

  2. @Ext3h:

    That's devastating news.

EATW was my one and only standard hatching site ever since I started DC back in 2012, because I found it simply the best by far in terms of handling and, much more important, views management.

I could put my eggs in there, and know the little ones would be save and sound until they hatched/grew up - which they usually did right at the 4 days mark.

DC won't be the same for me with EATW gone. (The alternatives are either woefully slow, or have a much higher risk of sickness, as far as I observed.)

So I'm very, very sorry for all the users that loose this great site, but much more for you for loosing a project that you invested so much time, work, dedication and money in, and that was among the best of its kind (the best in my books).

Many thanks to you for keeping it running for so long, improving it on the way, battling difficulties and being a large help to the DC community !!

PS: Maybe you should open a separate thread for this announcement, I'm sure there are many users out there who were using EATW, are wondering what its fate may be, and might miss the post in here ?

  3. @Mow

I offered a ticket to Paris. Take a stroll along the Seine, look down from the Eiffel tower on the illuminated beauty of France's capital, and when you get cold enjoy a plethora of delicacies in a charming, warm café, bistro, or restaurant.

  4. I'm a bit late to the party, but I just had to add my praise for the new dragon !!

The Garlands are just gorgeous ! Those warm, rich colours are wonderful, and the clarity of the details is marvellous !

This dragon looks like something straight out of a book of fairytales - the romantic old-fashioned ones where each illustration is a little story in itself. (Those books that I sometimes buy no matter what the stories are, just because the pictures are so beautiful. ;))

The whole idea of the Christmas wreath/ candle warmth theme is great, and it is captured in perfection ! Pose, proportions, facial expression, character... it all comes together splendidly.

It is very nice to finally see an actual "in game" description of a Christmas dragon ! I would have been happy with the Christmas dragons keeping their common description on their view pages, and getting the individual ones via the encyclopedia, but since there are no encyclopedia entries for them it is much better to see individual descriptions on the view pages than seeing none at all.

So, many, many thanks, @Fiona & @Odeen ! You created DC's first Christmas fairytale dragon (well, in my eyes) ! ;)

And just as a funny sidenote: Earlier in the thread I read things like "far back when" and "long ago" and such terms, regarding the tradition to decorate Christmas wreaths and Christmas trees with actual candles. Well, the Christmas tree in our living room is right now giving off the warm and homely glow that only real candles can give (and the warmth and special smell, too). If you pick a freshly hewn tree shortly before the holiday, mount the candles with care, and stay in the room while they are burning (or extinguish them if you go), there is no security issue at all for at least one week. (Even if the candle flames get to the needles there isn't a flame/fire, the needles in question only glow off. The trick really is to get a fresh tree that hasn't already dried out for a week or more before you even put it in the house...) Usually we have our Christmas tree in the house from December 24th till January 6th (Three King's Day, a traditional date in our parts here to get rid of your Christmas tree), and use real candles all the time through, without ever having encountered more than singed twigs. (And a smouldering blanket that someone put over the backrest of a chair, which was shoved back against a candle on the tree when they wanted to make way for some big present. Threw the blanket out the window on the lawn an put a pitcher of water on it, that was that.)

  5. Thank you for bringing the list up to date, Beldarius !

I sent a PM with some minor changes.

Xenos and Fire Gems will have to be "one pair only", though. Each variant of them can breed all the others, so a 2nd gen wouldn't be specific for a given city if we had more than one CB pair in the project.

As far as I know Zyus breed true, so each variant can represent a city. (If anyone knows of Zyus not breeding true, please let me know !)

  6. There were no eggs at the last full hour (4 pm cave time) and neither in the 5 min drops since then.

Poor TJ, juggling stubborn code during Christmas time surely can't be much fun. And poor us, less opportunity to get the last missing caveborns.

Let's hope it is not too hard to fix.

  7. List of Christmas Dragons I Can Breed:

You can find a list of my holiday pairs here. They are listed under "Solstice Pairs" (both types of Solstices) and "Other Christmas" (all other Christmas dragons).

List of Christmas Dragons I need:

    user posted imageuser posted image

4th gen Rosy Solstice from checker Shadow Walker x Rosy Solstice, mate for him

    - 4th gen Blue Solstice from checker Shadow Walker x Blue Solstice, mate for him

user posted image  x user posted image

    - 3rd gen Aegis from checker Peaceful Aegis x Shadow Walker, mate for her

I can offer a bloodswap for all of these, or breed something else. If any lineage of mine is traded for I'll name all the ancestors in it that live on my scroll.

  8. If this is in any way possible on the technical side, I'd love to see something like it implemented !

Like others here I mainly hunt the AP for specific topics at any given time (sometimes CBs, sometimes specific lineages, sometimes just "something beautiful or interesting"), and it would help immensely to know which eggs I already looked at. Trying to memorize the codes only takes one so far, as do several of the other tricks I tried... And going through the whole "abandon it all again" adds up to quite some time.

It wouldn't have to be fancy, just some way of recognising your re-abandoned eggs at all.

  11. I don't know if it's just me, but I just got a refusal breeding a Radiant Angel x Solstice pair. It seems the cave wasn't ready for Christmas yet when I bred (after reading and posting here). (screenshot proof)

I hope the dragons will be set back to breedable, but everyone should wait a little before breeding, I guess.

Edit: That was just me messing up the dates. Very sorry for posting such confusion !

  12. A very merry DC Christmas time to all of you !

And especially to our lovely Santa TJ !

Many, many thanks for bringing back the old caveborns, it's a very special Christmas present ! (Edit: And, as 11th said, many thanks as well for keeping the/a limit !!)

Now off to juggle breeding and CB catching...

  13. @Winterspheonix: Thank you, I'm sure Andorra will be a great experience !

Perhaps you should take Moscow as well, and send the next Andorra ticket to catstaff. It would be within the rules.

@catstaff: Sorry for stealing the last seat on the plane. ;) I hope you find a visitor for Moscow. It's a fascinating city.

  14. @Winterspheonix: I'd love a trip to Andorra. Offered a ticket to Paris in exchange, you could visit the "City of Light" while it is preparing for the enchantment of Christmas.

@Mow: Welcome to our merry fellowship of travellers as the new host of Helsinki ! You could already fill out a Passport if you'd like. As fuzz already asked - are you planning to keep the Water dragons, or will it be a new breed representing the city ? (I'm asking so I can bring the lists up to date.)

  15. I was viewbombed for the first time during this year's Halloween. Usually I don't put eggs over 5 to 4 days in hatcheries during events, and I only ever use EATW and Valley Sherwood (with sometimes the help of AoND if I need results really fast).

This time, when I realized just how many views everything had, including the newer eggs, I looked around - and found all my eggs and hatchies in a multitude of click sites (some of which I'd never heard about). I was really thankful for that list of click sites here in the forums, otherwise I'd have not even known where to look to get them out again.

After that I fogged everything until it was ready to hatch/grow up (which was annoying, because I had 15+ growing things at that time), and after that could go back to business as usual, thankfully, because the view bomber wasn't interested in me, specifically.

I think during events there are people just going through the event thread in the news, picking (mostly random) people that have their scroll linked, and viewbomb them. Those persons must have quite some issues in real life, I guess, if that's their idea of having fun or feeling powerful.

I didn't post about being viewbombed at that time, because I thought that might probably catch the attention of the random view bomber again, and during holiday breeding I don't have the time for such stupidity.

Of course there are other kinds of view bombing (to kill trading competition, or out of personal spite), which I think just as bad, but thankfully I was never targeted by those.

  16. @OutlawQueen: I'd love to travel there. I offered a ticket to Paris in exchange. If the weather is cold and clear, you'll have a fantastic view from the Eiffel tower or from Montmartre, and if it's nasty you could spend a day or two in the Louvre, or in lots of wonderful cafés, restaurants and clubs. ;)

  17. @Winterspheonix: There's nothing wrong in asking questions if you need something cleared up, so don't worry. :)

fuzzbucket is right in this. Breeds that once represented a city will stay unchoosable, to avoid a mix-up of cities in future times. (So if a traveller has a Skywing, they will always know right away that they got it when travelling Andorra, not any other place.) There are many things to be seen in each city - so there are different breeds that can represent it. But the sights of each specific city can be found only there, so you can't "find" the same breed of dragons in different cities. So to speak. ;)

  18. Welcome to our merry fellowship of travellers, Winterspheonix !

May you have many wonderful travels all through Europe ! I look forward to a visit to Andorra ! If you'd like to exchange tickets with Paris or Heraklion, just let me know !

You were added to the lists and the map.

    Greetings,

  19. Great. The news thread was closed while I was typing my post. So I'll paste it in here, most of it concerns the new sprite, anyway. ;)

I'm not sure I mentioned it explicitly already, so I'll do it now, just to be sure:

Thank you, TJ, a gazillion times, for opening the Halloween biome and giving us the chance to get CBs of the breeds that we missed because they came out before we joined !!

Now I finally can start lineages with my beloved Shadow Walkers without getting in a desperate trading frenzy each year ! (I'm sure I'll still trade, but the pressure is considerably lessened.)

(And many thanks again to the people who gifted me 2nd gens in the years past, I won't forget your generosity !)

As for the new Halloween dragon:

The sprite is very dynamic, and very busy. It's really hard to see where's what, what's what, and how it is actually moving. You can only pin it down by squinting at it long and hard, and that's not really easy. (Many thanks to the person who made that pictures with the red circle around their heads, I think I'd never have made them out without that !) But it makes sense in itself, and the parts, despite looking like they don't come together at first glance, do, infact, fit into a very neat final picture.

I have to say: Many of these things have been pointed out as flaws. But when considering that this is supposed to be a dragon inspired by Lovecraft and things like that - they are not bugs, they are features. Almost all the things that have been criticised, even the wording of the complaints, can be found in the description of lovecraftian monstrosities: "Their form is so confusing, it hurts the eyes." "I can't make out what part of that being is what." "Where the hell are their heads ?!" "Their silhouette is unrecognizable !"

Sure, that's not the aim when creating the typical DC dragon. (Thank god !) But within the concept of this special Halloween, all the things that are "wrong" are exactly right !

... That's why I never developed any kind of taste for Lovecraft and Co. ...

So - not my kind of dragon. But a real masterpiece by birdz and Process in picturing the "undescribable" and capturing the "intangible" ! (And all that done without even using a single tentacle !)
