How big are our dragons?

Recommended Posts

Day Glory drakes are the size of 4 month old kitten body-wise, hence they can land on your arm and walk on it. Night Glory drakes are about the same size.

Electrics, when they stand are about as 4 meters tall, excluding spread wings, from feet to head and like 7,5 meters long from tail tip to snout. Their average size, so far.

I made this for myself once. I know that's very far off what the artists believe of their dragons, though. :3 I just made it for fun. (It's in no way exhaustive.)

Pumpkins and pygmies can interbreed, so they're very close to the same size.

And thanks, earthgirl, for clearing that up. I've always been fond of smaller dragons.

I would imagine that most the dragons would be quite large, bar the mint, and some others I cannot remember. The Guardian one, I would think would be quite big, cause of their tails and what nots.

Yeah, I can imagine its complicated to sort out.

One of the artists was telling me about it (Dove, I think. It was months ago). You used to agree that mints were cars, and stones were about the size of a mountain- and then you sat down and realised that might be a titch too big XD

So, when you say your dragons are big, how big are we talking? Building sized? I know the Terrae dragons are massive....

I'm really among those who likes my dragons to be on the small size, mostly because I know with the thousands and thousands of dragons in existence, the ecosystems probably would have collapses ages ago if they were too big. None of my guys have ever been larger than a horse.

I'd like to say they don't ever really stop growing, but I really don't intend on them being the size of mountains. x: It's hard for me to set a size for them really.

I honestly feel like if I set a size, it ruins the feeling of imagination on your half. For example, I used to think that skywings were HUGE and super thick (like for any of you who have played shadow of the colossus, phalanx is the thirteenth Colossus in the game, who is pretty darn big). When I found out they weren't even a half the thickness or nearly as long I felt a little bummed, but of course I understood that that was Dove's decision and accepted it.

I'd like to say that in the group most of them are big, but not ridiculously so, and the 'leaders' just are massive. Since they were based off of sauropods (well..those and deer) I would say they can reach those heights or bigger, minus the neck and tail. Similar to dungeons and dragon's dragon size.

But again, I really want you guys to think of WHATEVER sizes you want, they're your dragons <3! If you'd like them to sit in your lap, so be it. If you want them to be the size of the sun and eat planets, go ahead x]!

Edit: OH WAIT ^just for clarification this is only my belief. Other artists may not agree with me. I'm just referring to my own creations x:!

Personally, I wouldn't be a huge fan of having specific sizes. I like to think dragons are as big as their owners need them to be for their own imaginations. Just seems more fun to imagine than to know. smile.gif

I would picture some of the bigger breeds being as large as an average-size house.

To the person who made the comment of thinking of them d&d sized....Wich edition do you have? Most ove the ones I have seen, humans are roughly the size of a reds toenail lol. I personally like using the dragonology book as a refrence

I always pictures the pygmys as about the size of a cat, the mints about like a large dog, and reds/greens/most other dragons about the size of a house. The snake-like ones I picture as being longer though since they are long and skinny.

I never pictured them being super-huge. I always thought they'd be about the size of a medium-sized dog through really big horses, except for the Terrae dragons, which are supposed to be huge, and the little pygmies and pumpkins. I think the pumpkins, to fit in an average-sized jack-o-lantern, would be about the size of a really big housecat. The horse dragons should be about the size of a horse, and stone dragons should be about the size of an ambulance or van. Just thinkin they shouldn't be really really big.

I use 3.5e currently. I'm pretty sure in all D&D versions they are the same size.

I have varying ideas depending on the breeds.

The Pygmies of course are cat-sized :3

Mints are…I visualize them as being between a Gila monster and a largish iguana.

When I think of Vampires, they aren't too big, about the size of a medium-sized horse. Pinks, Whites, Whiptails are about the same size. Stripes are a little larger but not by much, maybe a foot or two. Insects are an abundant and highly nutritious food source! smile.gif

Dragonhorses — mmmh, somewhere between Friesian and Clydesdale, vis-a-vis 17-18 hands, 1600 pounds.

Water, Skywing, Magi, Red, Green, Sunrise/Sunset, Silvers, easily 45 - 50 feet long. Dinosaur-sized.

I think of Splits, Golds, Guardians and Stones as among the largest of dragons — 120 - 150 feet long + wingspan, insanely huge.

The Trio, I think, should have statures corresponding to their Legendary status. 200 feet long, up to 50 feet tall.

Storms I consider to be awesome-crazy titanic — especially the male. They're shown holding thunderheads in their talons, and those ain't small. Pyrocumulae need to build up mass before they cut loose. Minimum of 300 feet long, up to 1500 feet long, possibly bigger. This would explain why they almost never land and spend most of their time in the air. I think seeing a Storm dragon above the earth would be so terrifying as to be a life-changing event: you'd either a.) Remain aware but never, ever forget it, b.) Faint, c.) Be literally frightened to death.

Well, you gotta keep in mind their food supply. A mountain cannot catch a bug and eat it. That would be just a little bit hard.

I think that in fact all our dragons are really tiny... No bigger than 100 pixels tall...

Anyway, yeah, I see most of them, in particular the water dragons, being quite large. The deep Sea ones must be pretty large, say 10 metres long or something.

I think my dragons are all itty tiny tiny. So that way I can fit all 250 or whatever I have on my shelf... laugh.gif

I think they would be 20 feet long including the tail, and maybe 10 feet high at the shoulder.

To me it would depend on the dragon like some live in tree tops so prob not bigger then a monkey I would think, but waters would have to get pretty big to not get eaten.

vines hide in plants so not to big would i think they would get

something like a guardian I would assume would be of quite large size

silvers can light up the room they are in so Id think they were of some size

so it would have to depend on the dragon in my mind to determine its size

I imagine Black dragons to be about four feet tall, and a bit longer.

I want to think that at least most of the dragon cave dragons are ride-able size. xd.png; So yeah, roughly the size of a quarter horse? Give or take.

Although, presence of the sprite has an effect on how big I imagine them to be. Hellfires, Electrics, and Alt Blacks seem fairly massive to me. Frills do, too, even though their description says they're small...

Magis and Snow angels look like they'd be fun dragons to ride. Just their body shape. xP

Well, per the 2nd ed. MC that I still use (monsterous compendium - yeah, I'm THAT old school) the average size of the 'juvenile' (base encounter) red dragon body is 61 feet and tail is 49 feet for a total length of 110 feet, assuming that the body length encompasses the neck and head (which I've always assumed) - great wyrm totals out at 350 or so feet, so... I don't know where you got the 20 foot estimate from. (pulls out books to verify) Yep, my knowledge hasn't faded.

So I wouldn't use D&D as a reference to DC, unless you imagine your dragons blotting out the sun whenever they take to the air. smile.gif If you do, more power to you.
