2017-03-19 - March Dragon Release

Recommended Posts

Viewbombing is a direct response to people being told 'dont be salty' by people who have multiple new eggs/hatchlings or a response to someone saying 'I got x amount of x egg'.

If there was a cap then the amount of view bombs would be less as people would be able to get their eggs easier. Anyways if I remember right eggs are counted as their breed for only a day...you'd still have the rest of the week to replace the eggs you lost.

Sigh now to return to trying to trade a 2G rare (silver) for ONE red gem! No bites and Ive had it up for almost 12 hours?!? If it was CB id have like 3 dang Fire Gems ;_;

That..is not where viewbombing comes from.

Viewbombing is done by people who ARE salty for various reasons (missed that gold egg in the cave, don't like the user, saw someone else get gifted something they wanted, whatever.) to attack the user.

It's the equivalent of "I can't have it so no one can!" and it really just makes more people end up hunting them because they have to replace their dead eggs.

A cap on new release eggs wouldn't help anyone. Most of the 80-something people hunting don't have a full set anyways. And plus, there's still a limit to how many eggs you can have. You can't have more than 7 new release eggs at once - and that's if you get NO other eggs from anywhere else (AP, ect.)

This would basically make it impossible to help others get new releases... Or colours swapping... my bf had 1 scrollful of greens only and if he was limited to 2 per each, he would never ever have a chance to get us the other 2 variants because he would be banned from catching more than 2 of ANY Fire Gems...

Anyway, no matter the reasons, no limits, please. Your suggestion is saying "I envy others who could catch 2 scrollfulls of new releases so let's make the game prevent the competition so it's easy for me to catch new releases if I'm coming a day after the release"... I hate seing people suggest sth that would ruin the game for some others...

Bigger drops would be much better than forcing limit on people who were more lucky or sth than you or I...

Totally agree...Would LOVE a bigger drop but no limit plz

When it comes to viewbombing, I can't help but wonder if putting "Please don't viewbomb me!" in your signature is a troll-attractor. I've seen variations of that message in lots of people's signatures, and I don't know if they get viewbombed more often than others who don't have that message in their sigs, but it wouldn't surprise me. Trolls and mean people love to be contrary.

I think having your scroll visible in your signature makes you more likely, as does posting on the forums. It makes it easier for them to get access to your scroll

That is why i'm always careful to check my eggs and hatchlings.

I've been viewbombed and to be fair, I personally think the message is of no help. Viewbombers have malicious intent to begin with, but some people like to give them benefit of doubt as in maybe they are newbies who are just trying to help. If someone is viewbombing with intent to cause harm, they will only cackle at such messages because it serves them. It is easier to simply learn all tricks to protect the scroll instead, which the game has provided, that makes it very hard to kill something via viewbomb if owner is fairly active.

Seen more CB Silvers than Firegems... but of course not caught a single one...

Well there we go, back to code collecting and hoping for trades later on in the year...

I just saw one (for one second)! Repeat: I just saw a Fire Gem (for one second)! After an hour of hunting and seeing nothing, seeing one fly past is like drinking from the Holy Grail.

EDIT: I think it's fair to mention that I haven't seen another Tetra at all since I got my two on the day of the release. Not one, even in passing. (Of course I haven't been specifically looking for Tetras, but still.)

Exactly. Thats why my scroll stays hidden. I only unhide it to add my eggs to click sites and then it gets hidden again. I would have had 5 CB Cavern Lurkers if not for viewbombers so I dont give them the chance.

Once bitten, twice shy, or something like that.

Fire Gems

Trying to write all this while wrangling a new puppy lol

I'm not really the bestat getting my ideas out in writing so if you have questions feel free to ask!

Laura-Borealis:

[q]

the blue male's pose, with his paws spread - is he showing off some gems? He so looks like he's saying "Look at my shinies, aren't they amazing!"

[a]

Funny story

I was working on them and got stuck on "what do I do with my hands"

Birdzgoboom jokingly suggested "jazz hands"

It ended up sticking

Behavior:

Oh man, these guys love shiny. They love being shiny and collecting shiny. Being rather prissy

they keep their gem like scales immaculately clean, and can often be found polishing their

hide.

Very Social critters, they tend to gather frequently for gossip and trade. In their society it is

frowned upon to steal from another dragons collection. Doing so could get one banished from

the group.

They don't have a set social ladder but often the dragon with the largest horde is considered a

leader of sorts. Others will come to them to help settle disputes and such.

It also isnt to unheard of for a few Fire Gems to be found trading with humans.

Creation History:

-Originally "Gem Derguns"

*breifly had a dr thread "Gem derguns"

* Believe it was made in early 2012

*it fetured lots of delightful spelling erros and types. (Note I fail at spelling and make all the

typos)

-Original concept had them as

*Emerald

*Sapphire

*Ruby

-All the sprites from the thread got redone, a lot

*except the Red male, He was only updated so a few folks might recall him!

*Green Female wins a being redone 4 times ˙ ͜ʟ˙

* Fun fact, the fire is litteraly the dragons color pallete inverted.

- The very sharp pallete from white - black was chosen on purpose. I wanted these kids to be

very shiny, some of the pallete was strait up taken from gem stones.

*Gem dragons have been something I've wanted to do for years, but never finished. Often I would have one or two sprties "done" only to come back later and scrap them. I only got the drive to really finish these off after the christmas event. I was off work on dissability and due to have surgery in early January, due to that I just really wanted to finish this project. Some awesome people helped me do it too! At the time I had 4/6 adult poses"finalized" but was struggling on the other 2.

The awesome JereduLevenin drew me up the Red and Green Female.

Mid-way threw working on these birds and Pie tossed the idea of despis like tails (Good catch people who noticed the similarities!) Birds also helped me position the tail on the Red female, damn I love it.

Then the hatchlings needed to get done. Man, i hate doing hatchlings. To re rescue again JereduLevenin drew me 6 differrent ones! (I was originally going to be lazy and make like maybe 3? but I couldn't let the awesome art go to waste!)

Finally TheCompleteAnimorph helped me out a ton with the S1's and descriptions. I had a few basic ideas

like "they are shiny and like shiny" but she really helped me flesh it out and write it in a beautiful way.

(Really writing descriptions are not my thing)

Well, I accidentally spaz-grabbed a mint. And then a magma. And now I'm egglocked.

My chances, which were already approximately one in sixteen hundred billion, have been quartered. :'(

Interesting info! I love all fussy dragons. biggrin.gif These are going to be my next favorite alongside the high maintenance male golds. Now I know why I liked the green sprites best, emeralds are my favorite gems and I can really the similarities between gems and these sprites. Kudos to the excellent work and thanks to all other artists who helped. :>

Eh, the new dragons are ok, not my style so I won't be collecting them, but nice to see some new additions. Sorry to the other folks that are struggling to get a hold of these guys. I'm having a hard time getting to the computer for the correct time/color correlation to even attempt a hunt on these guys (searching for blues still).

I wish during the first 2 or so weeks after a release that people were locked with how many CBs of the new breeds/variants they could own. Like for this release you would be allowed 6 Firegems and 2 Tetras (enough to get male/female pairs of each breed and variant color) that way people who have better devices/net/luck/have no life cant hoard every single egg drop and people who struggle during releases or who have school/work/young children can get what they need. After the week or two the cap releases and you can catch all that you want. For those looking to hoard...just as easy to hoard in 2 weeks as now and for those who breed? Not too hard to wait a couple of weeks either, heck might be easier to hunt when you dont have to fight people like me who just want a CB male/female of each breed/variant. The cap would only count the eggs on your scroll so if you traded off an egg or two you'd be able to get more, this will mean you can still do payments of release day eggs or use your first batch to buy something nice...though you may/may not be able to get CB metals/2g Prizes...which shouldnt be necessary fodder for an uncommon anyways.

Bet you all 20 to 1 everyone who complains to this have a ton of Fire Gems or some CB shinies/2G goodies that were paid for by tons of Fire Gems.

You lose your bet, big time. Go ahead, check my scroll, I DEFINITELY don't have a lot of Fire Gems. Both of my Tetras are from the AP yesterday and that ONE Fire Gem I have caught the entire time since they got released on Saturday? A misclick. tongue.gif I'm a player with super-ambitious collecting goals and I usually don't have a hard time getting new releases. I am this time. (I'm also PERFECTLY OKAY with this. No whining here, just bemusement at the Fire Gems' elusiveness. They're hiiiiiiding! Let's play hide-and-go-cleek!)

I've been entertaining myself with the lovely low-time AP and clearing commons out of the Volcano to hopefully let more Fire Gems through to help the general DC community. If you can't catch 'em, why not try to help others catch 'em?

Bigger drops or not, I've been through the advantages and disadvantages of both over the years on DC, but please no limits, either caps on collecting or minimums. Please also don't suggest changing how many eggs we can get release day based on wanting a m/f of each breed/color variant (and there is no "just" about it, when sometimes 4 or 5 breeds get released at once). You may think that such a goal is a no-brainer, but many many DC players have very different goals! You say "people who struggle during releases [etc.] can get what they need." How do you know what they need?

One of the great things about this game is that we make our own fun (and our own stress) - the only set goals are the trophy levels, everything else we create. We should not assume we know what others want to collect.

[Fun facts: I know a player who only collects messies and has an extensive RP about adopting them; I know a player who when TJ's new releases grow up abandons the eggs they don't like the adult sprites for (and they are picky); I know a player who collects 20m/20f cb of anything available cb in quantity - and way more of dragons they like; I know a user who only collects pink colored dragons; I know a user who purges their scroll every time it goes over 2 pages; I know a user who is proud to have cb metals as freezies... etc. Not all of them are on the DC Forums. Please don't assume everyone enjoys DC the same ways!]

Considering they are harder to grab than CB silver at this point, the best bet is to run with whatever you can grab and color swap it later. Lots of folks looking for color swaps in trade, I swapped several of mine too.

I'm not someone who has ever complained before about the drop rate of a new release, but I'm personally finding this new release to be very frustrating. I have been trying since the 20th to catch more Fire Gems (I still need a pair of Greens, of which I have none, and one Red female). I've spent hours hunting, even just refreshing the main cave every five minutes... and haven't seen a single Fire Gem or even Tetra in the last 24 hours (that I've been online for, anyway).

If these new breeds aren't meant to be rare, I don't understand why they aren't dropping more regularly.

Aside from the hunting disappointment, the new sprites are beautiful. And I love the Tetra's happy faces. smile.gif

Just wanted to thank Raptor of Dragons and CellyBean for all their efforts in getting a new dragon to players who couldn't catch them. And thank you to all the kind players who dropped new eggs in the AP and in the Departures Cave.

And thank you to everyone helping out in this event.

It is not in any way blaming the victims. But if does let the bullies know they got under your skin. For them, that is gratification and justification. And it won't stop them.
