Pretty, but not my favorite. The feathers are a little odd :c

Odd as in atypical for a halloween dragon or odd as in they are done poorly?

Not at all poorly done, but the feathers (along with the face shape) give more of a gryphon vibe than dragon.

I just wish they had feathers a bit further onto the face, but that's a design thing and they're still quite pretty.

Hmm, they're okay. I like the concept art a lot more-- I think it shows off the design and colors better than the sprites. Not that there's anything wrong with dynamically posed sprites, I normally love them, I just don't think the male pulls it off 100% in this case. His antlers stick out a bit for me, I think because they don't have distinct outlines. Dragons with long, skinny tails don't always work for me either, I tend to like more muscle and form.

The description also suffers from a bit of purple prose, imo. I can appreciate the mood the description is trying to set, but it can come across as being over the top. I'd think "...beguile their unsuspecting prey into peril by assaulting their perceptions of reality." and "stoking the fires of paranoia with masterfully-conjured illusions" would flow a lot better if they weren't in the same sentence. It's a lot of colorful descriptors as is without combining them.

I like the green parts of the design and wish they were a bit more prominent on the chest. Black, purple, and green is a nice color choice and the inspiration from will o' wisps and the like is great. Female is definitely my preferred sprite, she manages to look subdued but still threatening. Overall, probably near the bottom of my favorite Halloweens list (Marrows and Caligenes set the bar high) but they're not terrible or bad looking. Maybe they'll grow on me despite the things I dislike, like the Cavern Lurkers have.

They're lovely!

I think the male's horns are actually my favorite part.

Aside from the epic eyes I agree.

- Witchlight dragons are consummate opportunists, subsisting quite well on carrion when no fresh prey is available to them. Their strong digestive systems allow them to consume even rancid meat with confidence, and they will eat every digestible part of a kill - including the bones. Because of this, the victims of Witchlight predation have often been said to vanish into thin air.

- These nocturnal hunters have adapted to a lifestyle of stealth. The soft feathers coating their bodies muffles the sound of their movements, and they are not known to growl or roar at all. A Witchlight will huff or snap its jaws together when excited or irritated, but will otherwise remain eerily silent.

- A Witchlight dragon's illusions will tailor themselves to the unique fears and comforts of individual prey, presumably by playing off their own perceptions and weaponizing them. Some may be lured into oblivion by fantasies of warmth and safety, while others will be taunted with manifestations of their own paranoia and insecurity. Whichever form the magic takes, a Witchlight will not strike down its prey until their resolve is thoroughly broken.

- While Witchlight dragons are perfectly capable fliers, they hunt on foot and reserve flight mainly for the practical matter of traveling. The exposed leather of their wings makes too much noise in motion to be useful for stalking and ambush.

- The glow of a Witchlight's eyes and markings has an inherent alluring quality to it. They are capable of controlling the extent to which their eyes and markings glow, and use those in conjunction with their illusions to lure prey. However, they cannot control their own glow while they sleep: in order to remain hidden in their bramble-thicket nests and prevent their glow from attracting unwanted attention, they will wrap their wings tightly against their sides and tuck their heads under the sheltering darkness of their wings.

- Witchlights are solitary but not necessarily ornery. They make doting, attentive parents and will visit members of their families long after they've grown and established their own hunting grounds. Mother Witchlights will meticulously coat their newly-laid eggs with downy feathers preened from their own bodies in order to keep them warm and protected from the elements.

- It was once said by a particularly fortunate traveler that Witchlight dragons enjoy scritches, but few have dared to test that claim.

OHHH!!! Witchlights! NIIIIIIIIIICE!

They look great! I think my fave is the male though.

They will look good with Caligenes. Too bad we have to wait a year to bred them.

What am I going to name these guys though? My Magi's got the Witch names, and my Shadow Walkers got the Will-o-wisp names...

Maybe Death Eaters?

IDK.

I really do like these though.

Are these babies tall, short or medium in comparison to the average dragon? In the concept art they look a little bit short, but that's just me.

As I told my friend while I was painting it last night...

Not at all what I expected, but a nice surprise. I'm sure they'll look good with Spirit Wards and Horses. Caligenes are still my favourites, though.

Thanks again!

Would you say they fit the reindeer theme?

I gotta breed these with solstices.

I believe these are my favorite Halloween dragons in all my years of DC. Last ones were the Desipis. Better and better! Thanks for a dragon with AWESOME antlers!

These guys look pretty cool. Anybody have any ideas on what would look nice on a lineage bred with these guys?

A BIRD DRAGON!!! A BIRD DRAGON!!! Silent as owls?? Preen themselves?? LOVE SCRATCHES ON THE NECK???? BIRDS. And i looooveee birds. It is a strange coinsicende that the first three days of the breeding season i was not home, watching someone's pet Cockatiel??? Nggghhhh biirdss

I love these uys cause they're very reserved and quiet but so caring for their own and their lore is all around terryfying. It's like they're the best friends ever as allies and the worst nightmares as foes I LOVE IT.

Makes me think that no one knows of cases where Witchlights have human owners because Witchlights love to stay hidden too much! So it's like Humans who raised Witchlights would visit them somewhere in secrecy on / closer to the Witchlight's hunting grounds. I can imagine owning them is like owning huge birds !! And those illusory powers, what if Witchlights would sometimes use them to brighten their owner's mood if they weren't feeling ok, kind of like in the television series The 4400 that lady makes illusions for Tom.

These guys are great! But I may just be bribed because i adore birds and when it comes to scary topics, the topic of silent, unpredictable monsters is by far my fave and torturing via mind games is just about one of the most terrifying concepts imaginable, where you slowly, without acknowledging it, drift further and further away from sanity, having absolutely no chance of saving yourself without external intervention.

I kind of completely forgotten about the sprites itself, those are top notch too, I'm just, swooned by the lore and that reference sheet, aaaah.

Love these ones! The males are super cool. Love their lore, too. Just amazing overall ^^

And the egg is the best, love it peeking out. Having 7 eggs in a row doing that was so cute. Is it the first animated egg?
