-------------------------------------------------------

What is this about?

Dragon codes that look almost like a word or a name, but not enough to count as a "Cool Code".

I call them "almost cool codes", abbreviated as "ACC". (Please let me know if the abbreviation is bad for some reason, or is already in use for something else on DC.)

What on earth should we do with these codes when they're not even "cool"?

Give them the context they need to make them cool! smile.gif

... How?

Name the dragon, using its code exactly as it is* as a part of the name, and adding whatever it needs for context.

The easiest way to explain is by showing examples, so here are some of my ACC dragons:

"R0BXN" is only half cool, but here's R0BXN Hood!

"aRoGG" makes more sense when it is Between aRoGG and a Hard Place

"KjrrX" is cooler when he becomes Captain James T KjrrX!

And "pZONY" is now My Little pZONY

* Some exceptions allowed, see below.

What are the goals of this project?

1. To encourage collecting: similar to Cool Codes and the Z project, this can turn a "boring" ultra-common dragon into something special, which I think is always a good thing.

2. To encourage naming: if you have lots of unnamed dragons and you want to change that, maybe you'll find some "almost cool codes" among them. Voilà, here's your naming idea! (And it's very very unlikely that an ACC name is already in use.)

3. To encourage breeding: wouldn't it be cool if two ACC dragons bred another ACC...? I haven't been successful with this so far, but I'll keep trying. After all it should be a little easier than getting a perfect code from perfect code parents. smile.gif

How do I join?

Name your first ACC dragon and post it here.

(See forms below.)

Which dragons can be ACC dragons?

All of them. CB Silver, messy inbred Pink, frozen EG Ochredrake, Unbreedable...

All it needs is an "almost cool" code. And since everybody might see (or not see) different things/words in a code, it's up to you to decide if the code is fitting for this project.

What can we do here in addition to posting ACC dragons and admiring how great this project is?

- Ask for naming ideas

- Enjoy other people's funny/cool/original/silly dragon names

- Gift ACC dragons if you don't want to keep them

- Gift offspring of ACC dragons

- Other ideas welcome!

I'm a Z project member, and now I have an ACC dragon that is also a Z dragon. The naming rules are conflicting, what do I do?

Add the apostrophe required by the Z rules. This is an exception from the "use the code exactly as it is" rule.

If my almost cool code has two or more words, can I separate them by inserting spaces?

Keep the code intact whenever possible. (Ideally, a DC player who looks at the dragon will immediately notice that the "weird" group of 4 or 5 characters could be a dragon code. Then they check if it actually is that dragon's code, and feel happy when they see they guessed correctly. ^^)

However, if the lack of spaces between words would make it too difficult to understand the meaning of the name, or if it bothers you for another reason, then add the space(s).

This is the 2nd exception from the "use the code exactly as it is" rule.

Rules...?

1. All DC and forum rules and also Wheaton's law.

2. If a code looks like something inappropriate, better keep the dragon out of this project. Otherwise it might be considered censor evasion or violation of DC naming rules.

(Example: if "cat" were an inappropriate word, and you had a code "CA4t", don't name the dragon "curiosity killed the CA4t", because then it would be obvious you meant that bad word "cat".)

3. If someone doesn't understand what one of your ACCs is supposed to mean, don't be sad and don't be mad at them. We all have different brains that see things differently. An explanation of the name/code would be nice in that case. And vice versa: if you don't understand a code, but you would like to know, then ask - but don't tell someone their code isn't valid.

4. If you take a dragon that is offered as a gift in this thread, please tell the person who offered it that you got it.

5. If you have no intention of joining the project, please don't take dragons that are offered here.

(If you want to gift a dragon, please be aware that non-members might ignore this. Use two-way teleports and ask for dummy eggs if you want to make sure your egg/hatchling doesn't just disappear.)

Is there a list of all ACC dragons?

I'm not planning on keeping one apart from this thread. TBH I'm afraid that if this becomes big enough to make a list, it might also become too big for me to handle that list. I'm open to suggestions though.

=========================================

Forms

1. "Green form" (list of all your ACC dragons)

Post the following form only once and edit that post to add new dragons in the future. A link to this list will be added next to your name in the member list.

(Replace XXX with your name, LINEAGELINK with the dragon's lineage link, and NAME with the dragon's name.)

List of XXX's ACC dragons
NAME
NAME

2. "Red form" (presenting new ACC dragons)

Post the following form whenever you want to show new ACC dragons you have named.

(Replace LINEAGELINK with the dragon's lineage link, and NAME with the dragon's name.)

New ACC dragon(s)
NAME

You can choose any of these options:

 • Only post your new dragons to the thread using the red "New ACC dragon(s)" form. Possible disadvantage: there is no list of all your ACC dragons.)
 • Only make a complete list with the green form and edit it. (Possible disadvantage: other members don't notice when you add new dragons because you only edit an old post.)
 • Do both.

laugh.gif I like this idea. I will have to go through some of my dragons and see what "almost cool" codes I have. smile.gif

Your acronym throws me off a little, since it stands for the name of a rather large Animal Crossing community forum I used to moderate years ago.

Withdrawn, as it looks I've misunderstood.

(Almost?) cool idea! laugh.gif Can you read/guess those?

I had to google the last two because I didn't know the names, but they are... cool and I know I should maybe try to find some other words so I don't write "cool" seventeen times in every posting. tongue.gif

this unfortunate guy, who isn't lacking in mates.

These dragons are not named - and I wouldn't name them either, because their codes are way too good! biggrin.gif

However, this project is about codes that become (more) readable when they're used as a part of the dragon's name - I guess my first post was not clear enough about that. I'll make some changes to make that part more visible.

Anyway feel free to name your dragons to make them part of the project (although as I said, I think their codes are "too perfect" and would rather belong in the original "Cool codes" thread), or find other dragons to bring here. smile.gif

I saw this thread earlier and the first thing I thought was "this is such a cute idea, but I am not very creative so I would totally suck at it," lol. But I can join and give it a try, I suppose. smile.gif I don't think I have any dragons I can rename and use atm. Maybe I can look through them, now that I have some time.

I really love this idea! It feels more creative than just word codes. Right off the top of my head, I recently acquired dragon qddqB, and all I could think was IDDQD - Doom fans know what I'm talking about! biggrin.gif

I don't even know if that's obscure or not.

But this notion makes me smile! I know I've had neato codes of this sort in the past - time to go exploring on my scroll!

Welcome to the project everybody! smile.gif

@sylviamaris, I'm afraid there's a misunderstanding. The idea is to use the exact dragon code as a part of the name, so the rest of the name provides the context that is (more or less) necessary to read the code as intended.

I have a new example:

New ACC dragon(s)

O cPT5n - My cPT5n

(It was difficult to read without the "-", maybe still a bit confusing? It's supposed to say "O Captain! My Captain!". And umm yes, I just decided that using the code more than once in the name is officially allowed. wink.gif )

The name has to be the Code (look at my dragons for example) and you also have to copy the New ACC Dragons >..>

For the record, Confused Cat, I think you did a good job explaining what you mean in the first post. What I like about this project is you get to be more creative with naming your dragons. Some are downright amusing. laugh.gif

@Raptor of Dragons, I love your names, btw! MdnhG Hour for example was pretty creative.

Thank you! You're already helping by posting your dragons - those names are fantastic! biggrin.gif

("Lions-aTrGR-Bears Oh My" laugh.gif )

Should we have an official member list?

Anything else that is missing?

I think you should have an official member list. I'm digging through the AP AND the cave looking for almost cool codes now xd.png

I think you should, too. I'm not part of the Cool Codes lineage so I don't know what they do, but if you (or anyone) felt like it, you (or anyone) could keep a log with members and their dragons, just for kicks.

I'm now looking at all of my z'rejects for ACC's before abandoning them, laugh.gif Still haven't thought much about starting a lineage of pure ACC's yet but I'll be on the lookout, since at least one of mine is CB. I'm liking this lineage! I think it has great fun potential.

"Cool Codes" has (sort of?) a member list that links to users' posts in which they list their code dragons. (Here.)

Should I copy that system?

Everybody would create one post in which they would list their own ACC dragons and update it whenever they have new ones.

I think it would be nice if users could edit their dragon lists themselves, and the lists would still be collected in one place.

On the other hand, if new dragons are only added to the member's existing post that is linked in the member list, other members might never see them because the thread won't be bumped by the updates - and I think nobody is going to check the edit dates of other people's posts just to find out if there are new dragons to admire. wink.gif

(And guess who forgot to update her "Cool Codes" dragon list post for the last four years... Ooops. laugh.gif )

Maybe members could post all their ACC dragons to their original post, but then just post something like "added 3 new dragons to my list" which would both bump the thread and show others when new dragons are posted, while still allowing all that user's dragons to be posted together???? Or is it too much trouble having to post two places each time you add some?

I am adding dragons to the first post I listed dragons in. You want me to merge my second post into the first one?
