Heavenly ☆ Branches [OOC]

Recommended Posts

Some Clarifications on Out of Link (OoL) magic because people have been asking on chat:

First years are just starting out. Some are more skilled than others, but since they lack experience, the first few times the magic either fails to manifest or goes out of control. After a bit of practice, Robinson expects Air to be able to create a hand-sized pocket of turbulence, Water and Earth to be able to manipulate a handful of their respective element, and Fire to be able to conjure a lighter-sized flame without burning themselves or anyone else. If your character is particularly diligent, they can exceed these expectations -- as the RP progresses, their abilities will become on par with the upper years.

Upper years have much more control over their element, and both their strength and finesse are quite great. Some choose to focus their control on a specific aspect of their element, such as powering their jumps or making their magic subtle enough that no one even notices it. Air can float for a short period of time, for instance, or they could focus on making obnoxious noises by vibrating the air at 3khz; while a water user might focus on being able to condense water from the atmosphere to control the mist; an earth stem can create small rock formations or learn to control magnetism, and a fire stem can create a decent sized flamethrower or control their element so well that they continuously radiate a soft heat.

a single lonely cheese (with slight revisions)

Username: Lady_Lunevis

Name: Elliot Alaine-Lavelle Charlebois

Age: 16

Gender: Demiboy - he / him

Sexual/Romantic Orientation: Panromantic pansexual

Appearance: Elliot stands at about 5'4", with wavy white-blond hair and bluish grey eyes fringed by long eyelashes. He has a beauty mark near his left eye, a small mole that only adds to his pale skin and elvish face. For appearance, Elliot dyes his hair quite often; his natural colour is more of a dark brown, taking after his father's hair, rather than his mother's light blonde. Due to equal parts vanity and wanting to please, Elliot has his hair professionally bleached constantly. As he's only been doing this for a short while--before, his parents thought him too young, but upon the age of 15 decided he was old enough to be tailored for the company's image--his hair isn't quite damaged just yet, although its becoming increasingly so at an alarming rate.

Elliot is not physically strong; his raising has completely neglected anything physical, so the male must be careful while lifting anything heavy as he either does not have the strength or might tear a muscle.

Taught to dress the best, Elliot's clothing is always ironed and crisp, ready to go. For his school uniform, he replaced the, in his own words, 'tacky tie' with an elegant Victorian-style cravat with ruffles, his Branch like a necklace located right in the center of his throat.

Personality: Elliot's personality differs depending on who he is talking to. Since he was raised from birth to become a wealthy heir, Elliot is charming and polite when greeting people of higher status, the perfect little prince for others to dote on. He feels most at ease around older, upper-class citizens, and lives by the knowledge that money can help you through anything. Around his people, Elliot is a charming host and perfect heir.

However, around others his age, Elliot's personality completely shifts. He's unable to wrap his head around concepts that others would consider normal, and feels very socially awkward around people that are actually his age and with such diverse personalities. He dons an air of superiority, looks down on all that he talks to, and eventually ends up attempting to give the person money to convince them to go away as that's what he thinks will work best.

Around people he is especially interested in befriending or something more, Elliot will be completely out of his range and attempt to scare the person away. He thanks the stars that his parents are not here to see him now--they would cringe seeing how their suave son is completely of his range, but Elliot is so bewildered that he desperately wants some semblance of home to cling to. Though he thinks himself independent, truth is Elliot's childhood was so controlled in little ways by his parents and grandmother that he never really had the chance to make big decisions by himself, so being suddenly dropped in a school setting is both overwhelming and exciting for the blond. He aspires to do his best, but will willingly admit--with the slightest of shame--that both school and fighting demons are completely new experiences to him and he is rightfully afraid of both. Even so, he won't give up! Elliot's ultimate goal is to make friends--something he's never really had nor considered until now, but after seeing what friends seemed to do together in the movies he decided he wanted that for himself. His approach, however, could use a little work--he really doesn't have much to go on beyond money, which always seemed to help him out elsewhere.

Elliot can also be painfully gullible at times--he will fall for little tricks, and does not have knowledge of the more darker things in life. He has no idea what life is like for the poor, what death really means, nor can he warp his head around the concept of an unhappy family. Raised in a perfect world, Elliot takes many of his blessings for granted.

History: Born to wealthy French parents, Elliot's childhood composed of the best private schools money could buy. As his parents' business was based in England, they moved to Britain when Elliot was a young child of three and never returned to their homeland. From the moment he was born, Elliot was trained for his inheritance--being the only child of two wealthy entrepreneurs meant that he would be in line for a grand future, and his parents did everything to ensure their son would become a good businessman that could uphold their legacy.

Sent to boarding schools, taught multiple languages--although never French, his parents based his education around success and thus allowed him only to dabble in worthwhile business languages, saying that he could leave the others for later times--Elliot was set up for success. As his childhood was controlled by his parents, they also decided on his education. Instead of being taught subjects such as history or English, Elliot was taught maths and business--subjects his parents deemed most useful in order for his future to be ensured. Due to this, he never had the chance to develop hobbies or other talents and thus finds the act of playing an instrument or anything to do with artistic skill beyond fascinating.

Never having really met other children in his childhood, Elliot is more at ease with adults and quite charming, using his good looks to his advantage when charming older citizens. He is particularity close with his grandmother, a retired business tycoon that has nothing else to do but dote on her only grandchild. She spoils Elliot and constantly worries about his wellbeing, always asking him if he's made any new friends or if he needs anything new. However, there is a bit of tension between his parents and his grandmother; his grandmother believes Elliot should be allowed to live a childhood first, spending time with children his age and learning how to live, while his parents argue that he can find 'time to live' when he is older and more responsible, and that flying to Hawaii to lounge on one's private beach is better than playing around in the sandbox with some toddlers. As Elliot was too young to fully comprehend the situation when the fighting began, he never got to form a personal opinion and just goes along with what his parents decides, as he believes that they really do know best.

Since he grew up sheltered in a very closed-off world, Elliot is especially close with his parents--almost too close, in fact. He believes they can do nothing wrong, as they have been telling him that since before he could speak. Although his memories of being taught to walk are more with his grandmother, Elliot is somewhat internally conflicted--once again, he takes the privilege of his bond with his grandmother for granted and seeks to please his parents, who know how to lavish him with gifts at exactly the right time and fill his head with thoughts at another, yet are somewhat distant due to their jobs taking up so much of their time. Through his mother and father's tutoring, Elliot believes that above all, he should trust in his parents to do the right thing, and that ultimately it is important to instill these values in his own children to continue the esteemed Charlebois line.

When his parents heard of the academy testing, they immediately lavished out generous amounts of money to the school for Elliot's acceptance and to be treated well during his stay there. His grandmother originally didn't agree with the thought of sending her precious grandson out to battle demons, but realised that this could be a chance for him to make friends that were his age and learn what a 'commoner's' life was like, so she reluctantly agreed. She demands that Elliot check in with her every weekend to tell her how things are going and if he's okay, and bought him many gifts as a farewell present. Now armed with a brand new wardrobe and a plump wallet, Elliot arrived at the academy.

Element: Water

Branch Color: Midnight Blue

Weapon: Cœur de la Reine { Heart of the Queen } - a sabre modèle An IX, with a white, curving blade and a silver hilt curved like a rapier, with a rose etched into the black leather sheath. Due to Elliot's upbringing, he is at a major disadvantage as he is not skilled in neither speed nor strength.

Armor: x

Other: He likes to pretend that he knows French to honour his heritage; thus, he will call everyone "mon petit fromage", also known as my little cheese.

He has a large allowance and thus thinks very little of large purchases.

Due to his upbringing, he can speak fluent English, Mandarin, and German.

He's almost never had to run in his life and has never played a sport, and would probably drown in the shallow end of the pool. Due to this, Elliot is physically unskilled.

Elliot has an engraved pocketwatch with his family crest that he carries around.

Username: Doctortear

Name: Priam Nightingale

Age: 17

Gender: Agender

Romantic Orientation: Demi-biromantic

Appearance: “Gentle giant” is a term that is applied to Priam often. The are exceedingly tall at 6’5” (198cm) with a muscular build that just makes their stature seem all the bigger. Their Hawaiian heritage is shown prominently through their have flawless olive skin. They have a rectangular body with long limbs. Their diamond shaped head has sharp features with red cheeks, full jaws arching eyebrows, and a small nose. Their eyes are a rich brown that can be clearly distinguished from their pupil. Priam has short light brown hair that reaches down to the nape of his neck. Their hair is fantastically maintained with bangs, save for one large bang that sticks out from the front center of their hair and is pushed towards the left side of their face, that are graciously swept to the side, allowing their eyes to be seen clearly. The don’t particularly wear their uniform in an special way and their normal attire consists of a variety of clothing that ranges from comfy jeans and t-shirts to formal dress shirts and slacks. Their Branch is attached to a thin black choker they wear on their neck. The choker itself is fashioned from black cloth with a soft texture.

Personality: Priam is, in a very real sense, the definition of a perfectionist. They must attend to every task with their best effort and if they don’t succeed the first time around, they will train and study until they do. As they are incredibly confident about themself, Priam isn’t afraid to voice their confidence every once in awhile which can easily come off as arrogance. They are incredibly amiable to everyone they meet and treat everyone, even those they don’t fancy, with the same level of decency. Outwardly, Priam radiates optimism and will often go out of their way to assist others. The are enthralled with the feeling of accomplishment and, as such, genuinely enjoy being productive. Although Priam, like most people, has very strong opinions, they tend to not to express their thoughts unless directly asked to do so. The generally try to be the middle man when an argument breaks out, always trying to form some sort of compromise as opposed to picking a side. The are extraordinarily hard to anger and can often hide their negative emotions behind a smile.

Surprisingly, or unsurprisingly in some cases, Priam’s show of constant never ending alacrity is somewhat of an act. Though the are easy to get along with, Priam is very selective in terms of who they consider their real friends. As such, they open up to very few people and the people they do end up acting natural with are people the absolutely trust. In private, Priam is far more cynical and pessimistic about the world around them contrary to what they say when out in public. They do not believe they have their life together although the do believe they may eventually be content with their life goals. Priam remains incredibly sensitive about their twin’s death and is quick to change the topic of discussion if the subject is brought up. They are quick to change the subject if personal matters are brought up and, often enough, prod others to talk about their own lives instead. Although they value the opinions of just about everyone, Priam doesn’t care about the opinions of people they don’t respect and will often ignore what they as opposed to heeding their advice.

History: Priam was born in Hawaii to a native father and a mother from South Korea. Priam was born alongside their identical twin sister, Akamu, as the youngest of the two. With their mother working overseas as an engineer and their father toiling night and day at the restaurant he worked in, the two twins spent the majority of their time together. Both were extraordinarily talented in multiple departments. While Priam excelled in academics and athletic activities such as dancing or track, Akamu proved herself to be a patron of the arts through her beautiful singing, excellent paintings, and decent photography. The two felt as though they could take on the world together, hand in hand. At the young age of nine, the two’s dreams were dashed away. While on a boating trip, a horrid storm rolled in and Akamu tragically drowned. The death of their sister weighed heavily on Priam and for nearly two years, they completely shut down. The stress and pain that followed the tragedy ended up in Priam’s parents divorcing and with their father taking custody over them. Deciding that it was too painful to stay at home, Priam’s father moved to the mainland in hopes of finding a new future.

Priam, who had never really considered themself an individual but rather a half of a whole, began to contemplate their future. After much time and consideration, the ultimately decided that they would try to fill the hole in their heart by being what the two of them were together. Priam tried to capture their sister’s radiant personality by being excessively kind to everyone around them. Through vigorous studying and constant practice, Priam managed to breeze through both the subjects they were naturally good at and the subjects their sister was talented at (although they never quite reached their sister’s level of expertise). The impressed both their father, teachers, and peers alike with their success. Life for Priam, however, became much more difficult between keeping up appearances, getting good grades, and maintaining relationships among other things. Mastering their sister’s talents was extraordinarily difficult and the struggled with being even half as good as she was. Their relationship with their father became somewhat strained due to Priam constantly working or studying on one thing or another and they rarely called their mother. Although the weren’t initially interested in Heaven’s Gate, the combination of pressure from both their peers and school to take the test, along with a growing personal interest in the subject of magical powers, eventually pushed Priam to take the test. The were pleasantly surprised when the found out they passed the test as the hadn’t thought too deeply about what would happen if they did pass. Nevertheless, the were glad they were given the chance to join the prestigious school. Although the weren’t sure exactly what would happen, Priam was sure they would be just fine.

Element: Earth

Branch Color: Smoky Quartz

Weapon: Priam wields a double headed battle axe when in battle. The axe itself is around five feet long and its two heads being absolutely massive with each head being around the size around the size of Priam’s torso. The heads themselves protrude from the handle and curve upwards in an angular fashion. The heads texture and color bear resemblance to steel with the handle looks a lot like black wood. There are various intricate designs on the head but they’re more abstract than clear cut. At the end of the axe, a jutting metal point, that is just as sharp as the heads, is attached

Armor: When transformed, Priam adorns a peculiar stylized suit of armor. If their size wasn't intimidating before, their incredibly bulky armor, which adds a few inches to Priam’s height, is sure to turn some heads. Their full set of bronze-colored armor looks like it came straight from the Medieval Europe. Their gorget is just as thick as their breastplate and their pauldrons are very bigger than they need to be. The faulds strapped around their waist are somewhat long, reaching down to their knees. The fingers of the gauntlets are sharp with pointed ends. Priam’s face is covered by an armet that just barely allows them to see the outside world.

Other: Priam was taught how to cook at a very young age and has bloomed into a wonderful chef since. They wish to be a gourmet chef when they grow up and own a restaurant of their own. Out of all their sister’s talents that they have tried to master, Priam has best mastered singing although they would argue they are nowhere as good as their twin.

Hey, Xiao, I don't mean to be blunt, but if your character is a first year student, they wouldn't have attended the morning classes. That's when the beginner's orientation occurred with Dr. Robinson in the courtyard. Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but I figured I'd try and clarify before things got confusing.

Name: Mikona Mei

Age: 15

Gender: Female

Romantic Orientation: Panromantic

Appearance: She is about 6'1" and weighs 142.6 pounds. She has long, brown hair that is blond at the tips. She is pale and has freckles on her face. Part of one of her fingers on her right hand looks like a bone from a childhood injury. She has large feet. She wears glasses because of her terrible eyesight. She also seems kind of scary. She has her branch on a chain for a necklace, but mostly wears it on her wrist as a bracelet

Personality: She is cold to most people, but very kind to her friends. The reason she is cold is that people expect her to act that way because her element is water. She is a very kind person, but people started avoiding her because of her element. Her hobbies include gaming, reading, basketball, archery, shooting, cooking, and more reading. She is a realist.

History: She was raised by her father who has seizures. She has a little brother who is autistic. She did extremely well in school. She was bullied a lot, and had many close friends. She took the test because she wanted to help people, and she wanted to understand the psychology of the demons.

Element: Water

Branch Color: Very light blue (B5F8FF)

Weapon: Her weapon is a sword that she likes to call blood rose. It is bronze and has little roses on the guard. The grip has sharp thorns on it so no one else can hold the weapon. It is very heavy so the attacks have more force.

Armor: It is made of iron. When her magic is activated, it turns light blue.

Other: She uses each hand for different things. She uses her lets hand for writing and for holding her sword. She uses her right hand for everything else.

I believe I saw you in chat! Usually people discuss their character with me on there beforehand, so Mikona's is currently pending for several reasons:

- Students don't get their element until the first day of school, meaning that nobody would know she was in water. We start on basically the first day of a new school year, so Mikona wouldn't have really met anyone or formed an impression yet. Elemental stereotypes (fire is impulsive, earth is slow, etc.) are a cop-out and don't really exist in-universe, and I feel like you could develop her personality more.

- Straight hair? Build? Paint a picture of what she looks like, her posture, how she wears her uniform, things like that.

- History: Why is her family defined only by their health issues? There has to be more to it than that. History, Personality, and Appearance are all intertwined.

- Weapon is okay. Armor can be more specific and more creative because other than what it is made of we have no idea what it looks like; Heavenly Branches plays off the Magical Girl Warrior trope, after all!

Username: zakku_uchiha

Name: Erika Newman

Age: 15

Gender: Female

Romantic Orientation: Apathromantic

Appearance: Erika is on the shorter, and lighter, end of the spectrum, sitting around 4'6" in height and weighing just around 83lbs. With short, cropped red brown hair and emerald eyes, her light hazel complexion serves as a compliment to the light freckling under her eyes and on her forearms. Now, her slender appearance and lack of a noticeably developing bust often causes others to mistake her for a boy, but it never really seemed to bother her in the slightest. Outside of the school uniform, Erika doesn't really seem to follow a dress code, rather she wears what she finds most comfortable regardless of its outward appearance.

Personality: Erika is generally apathetic in the sense she doesn't go out of her way to initiate idle chitchat, sticking to her studies and leaving her lab only when absolutely necessary. Yet, she also won't ignore those who wish to talk with her, as long as they don't mind her direct and blunt way of speaking and her monotony.

History: Erika was a unique child, attending Kindergarten one year and then bumping up to third grade the following, the way she was able to process information was on a spectrum rarely seen before. By the time she was ten years old, Erika had graduated from the private high school she had been enrolled in and had entered into an advanced private university, taking both physical and online courses. Two years passed by and she had obtained her Master's degree and by the time she was 14, Erika had earned her PhD as an Advanced Weapon's Designer and Engineer.

Despite all these accomplishements, Erika grew up fairly isolated from the rest of the world. With her father constantly overseas and her mother working late hours, the only one who really assisted in her growth was the housemaid, Felicia. At a young age, this had been a grave disappointment, but as she grew older she saw it as an opportunity to experiment. As for classmates, most of them were several years older than her and, for a short while, they had shown interest in being around her, but after a while they all drifted away.

Element: Earth

Branch Color: A stripe of copper runs through the center with taupe colored, almost leathery in appearance, bands along each edge.

Weapon: Gungnir - Incorporated into her armor, particularly her gloves/gauntlets, Erika can utilize a magical energy reactor located within the palms to perform various support or combat abilities. Whether those be ally support/buffing shields or firing a compressed beam of energy into her target, it's all dependent on the situation at hand.

Armor: Ragnarok - An advanced combat battle suit that appears to have composite plating covering the essential areas. Within the helmet, however, is where the true magic of the suit lies, incorporating a highly efficient AI infrastructure that assists Erika in determining the best course of action. Deemed LOKI, the AI itself can also push out information to Erika's teammates, from tracking a target to navigation. Aside from that, the external part of the suit seems lacking in any kind of equipment, despite various docks and ports along certain areas.
