The Academy

Twig had been running on the outside ring of the track to minimize the risk of anyone stepping on him. It was a simple, but effective precaution.

But not perfect...

A shadow passed over Twig, and he looked up to see an immense, hairy..... thing falling out of the sky. He vary had time to squawk in surprise before the assailant smothered him.

Twig struggled under the pile of fur, looking for some way to escape from the embrace of the coat. Eventually, he managed to climb out through a sleeve, and got his first good look at what had trapped him.

"Oi! Whose just throwin coats around like it's rush hour at the taylor's shop?!" he called out.

Oh, would you look at the time?

BONG! BONG! BONG!

The obnoxiously loud bell bellowed again. "All right, all right! That's enough! Gym class is over. Everyone head to your next class." Burung announced. If his memory served him well, this batch of fruitcakes had science next... and the science teacher hadn't shown up yet. He wondered for a moment who the substitute would be, and then on a deeper note, how Kaio could just summon substitutes on little to no warning. The thought disturbed him. What if Kaio was a necromancer who just summoned dead people who used to be teachers during the war, but died?!

Then, the teacher dislodged the bizarre scintilla from his head and thought to himself, '...Stop it, brain.' Even the teachers didn't fully understand how the Academy ran sometimes. Meanwhile, he said nothing to the mass of hugging students that had collapsed on the track for lack of need. Any Love Demon would know that they were just excited to see each other again so he could let it slide, especially at the end of class.

Dain took off running the minute that the teachers gave the O.K. He did however slow down near the end t=so that Tatsuke could catch up with him, which he soon discovered to be a mistake. As the two friends were running together Some other friends showed up. This wasn't a problem at first when Devon pulled up next to them, it instead become a problem when Syassuru decided to tackle the group to the ground. Dain grunted and pulled himself out to sit next to the group. "Well Syassuru, wasn't that just a bit too excessive? I mean, I am very happy to see you to, however a tackle to the ground was just a bit to much." Dain was trying to criticize his friend, yet couldn't help but laughing at the same time. "Anyways friends, I will have to catch up later because I pla-," as the bell when off, Dain paused and frowned. "Well never now, I guess it is time for class to be done."

Dain stood and walked a bit closer to his friends and knelt slightly with his hand extended for help. "So, is the next class a necessity? Or is it a choice?"

Luke

Courtyard -> Science Lab

Luke flinched at the absurdly loud bell once again. They were outside but it was still loud enough to ring in Luke's ears. He sprinted the last lap to the full of his ability, passing by another large chunk of the class and stopped exactly at the finishing spot. Maybe it was OCD or maybe it was just his precision but nonetheless he was able to coordinate his movements to almost perfection. Luke had built up a large amount of stamina the past few years from training but he was still slightly out of breath. Picking up his bag, Luke headed for Science class. He thought he saw a large black eagle briefly but since it was not important, he abandoned the thought.

Arriving at Science class, he was not sure whether to wait outside the class or inside but seeing as some had already gone inside, he decided to follow them. He chose a seat at the back of the classroom so he could avoid sitting in front of troublemakers who would most certainly bother him and to avoid detection if he got bored and started to read a book.

Haruki

Teacher's Lounge -> Auditorium -> Above the Courtyard

Haruki looked outside the window as the class started to go in after the annoyingly loud bell rang. There were hardly any clouds and the day was sunny, so why not go for a little fly? It had been so long since Haruki had stretched his wings fully and enjoyed the breeze against his face. Well, that was if you saw two days as a long time. "Hey bud, you wanna go out flying?" Haruki asked his dragon. Haruki knew Cisum didn't really like flying but it was worth asking him. His dragon simply shook his head and took another sip from his cup. Haruki shrugged his shoulders and ran upstairs to the Auditorium.

Arriving in the empty hall, Haruki opened one of the windows and felt the air. It was crisp and fresh like it always was. Just like home, thought Haruki. He climbed up and looked down below. It was a hard fall and he would certainly die if he wasn't careful. He took one step into the emptiness and fell. He counted the floors he passed as he was freefalling to the ground. 48...45...38...34...28...21... He counted as he gained velocity. When he reached ten, he spread open his wings quickly, causing him to jerk up wards slightly. He flapped once and pierced through the air laughing. Haruki could not imagine life without wings and chuckled at the thought of other wingless species imitating the Icari by building fake wings and devices. He spun-dived once and shot up in the air again in a twirling motion. Life was truly great with these wings of his.

James looked up as he heard the bell, slightly dissapointed that he wouldn't get his race. Sighing, he jogged over to where he'd discarded his cloak. Only to find a small person standing next to it, looking angry.

"Oh!" Jams exclaimed, as he heard the accusations. "Im really sorry, I through it away because it was a bit heavy," James apologized. He leaned down and picked up the large cloak, sweeping it about his shoulders.

"I just threw it in a random direction, If I'd known you were there. Well I wouldn't have thrown it at you, I would have thrown it somewhere else, because it was heavy and I was hoping to have a race. I mean a cloaks not that useful when your running," James stopped, mentally slapping himself.

He looked back and saw nearly all the other students had gone, obviously to science class.

"Oh no! I can't be late for a class on the first proper day! What would my brothers say if they saw that! Come on," Before the small elf could respond James scooped him up in his hand and began running after them. Seeing the girl he had been intending to race he called out as he slowly drew the distance.

"Race to the class room!" He called. Then grabbing the elf and carefully placing him on the ground, James phased through the wall, not bothering to veer to the door.

[Hope this is alright for the first post]

A red-haired human girl hurried through the school corridors, a faint yellow glow surrounding her form as she moved, heading for science class. Agatha Fletcher had just arrived at the Academy - a few days late from what she could gather from the receptionist that had given her a timetable and a map of the grounds. Her dragon companion perched on her shoulder, eyes half-closed in concentration and wings splayed for balance.

This would never have happened if you hadn't shown up, Jolinar! she snarled mentally at her Sesseljae companion.

If I hadn't, you'd be sitting at home, bored out of your mind making arrows that practically no-one buys anymore. Jolinar pointed out, Besides our race needed a representative - and it was decided that a young one would be the best choice.

That didn't mean you had to drag me along as well!

Actually I did. You know as well as I do that.....

Any further conversation was cut off by an amused chuckle. This one came from a third party, her newly hatched dragon. The Royal Crimson had literally popped out of its egg as soon as she'd picked it up.

During the next break, Agatha or more correctly - Jolinar - would need to pick up her room assignment - the office staff had kindly dealt with her small amount of luggage so that she didn't miss any more of her lessons.

Courtyard

The loud bell did little to affect Syasurru as he sat up, so everyone could get up with a bright grin on his face that looked more like the cat that ate the canary, rather than the feigned innocence he was going for. Batting his long blonde lashes at Dain Sya replied, "Who me? Excessive? Why what ever do you mean?"

Sya was just that guy. You know the type. Egotistical, full of mischief, but over all a good guy who just wanted those around him to have a good time. Even if what he was doing looked foolish, if it got a laugh it was worth it to Sya. To Sya this had been a roaring success. Accepting Dian's hand, Sya got to his feet and dusted off his normally pristine outfit just as Iris and Rory joined them.

Devon giggled as she turned on to her side and said, "As I was saying... Hello Tatsuke and Dain, I have missed you too. Very much..." Just then the obnoxiously loud bell rang. Devon giggled again as she continued, "Wow they really want you to know the time this year don't they. I'm also eager to hear about how your summers have been. There is much to to talk about, but Sya and I need to find the Headmaster before before the next class."

She shifted to her Naga form, but still accepted Dain's offered hand to steady herself faster, "Thank you Dain." Devon returned her emerald eyes to Tatsuke, her smile broadened as she added, "Perhaps you would like to catch up over a game of Go?"

Devon knew what the answer to her question would be. He was probably just as eager to play as she was. True he was so much better at these games than she was, but Devon still loved to play against Tatsuke and learn from his style. She kept her inner worry to herself for now. She had sent a letter for Tatsuke explaining the situation with the runner who was sent to deliver the letter her Wisdom Keepers sent to the academy. That runner should have arrived days ago... She couldn't let that worry her. Maybe the letter had gotten misplaced? Yeah that had to be it. It was just a simple mistake... Devon was too happy to want to contemplate any other scenario at that moment.

(Lotus ninja'd me.)

Tatsuke wiggled out of the grip of his Fairy friend, and rose to his feet on his own. He didn't want to take Dain's hand because he felt it would be rude to take his hand when Devon was also down on the ground and could use it just as much as he could. For a moment he almost forgot she had a Naga form as well as a humanoid one. While he was glad to see his friends, but class was always his top priority and they'd had their group hug now. Time to get back to school... and into a class that didn't involve physical activity. Also known as a class Tatsuke didn't suck at. "Science is necessary. We must learn why sky is blue, why clouds are white... cannot have students thinking sky is blue eye of giant and clouds floating sheep."

Tatsuke shifted his small red pack on his shoulder. He didn't like to put his stuff down because he never trusted anyone around his belongings. Not since last year when he trusted his friend to help him pack and found female undergarments folded neatly on top of his favorite robe. "I would like to ketchup very much over game of Go. I warn though... I been practicing all summer!" On only a few subjects Tatsuke was a proud person. But when he was proud of something, he had a right to be so. Even if he was typically meek and was easier to walk on than a door mat, nothing could make him think twice about his skills at board games. Particularly Go. And on top of it... this was Devon. She was his best friend, even above Dain. His golden eyes were excited and full of glee. "Good luck finding Headmaster Kaio. I see you when you done, yes?"

Mizuki was already on her way to the Science classroom she looked back to see some guy letting down a small elf and shout: "Race to the class room!" And then phase through a wall. "A race, really? He thinks phasing through walls could help him out? Let's just see who gets there first." She says.

Since the classrooms were on the third floor, all she had to do was to look for the shortest way to get up there, which would be the walls. Secondsater, you can just see what Mizuki was doing over the roof of a building connected to the main structure. There she was, running on ledges and climbing on anything she can hold on to. After a few minutes, she was already in front of the classroom door, with her stuff of course. She walks in, waiting to see if the guy who just asked her for a race actually got here before her. She also notices that only a few students have come into the class, which would mean she got ahead of the others back in the courtyard.

"Science." She grumbles, due to the fact that she doesn't know much about it. She was a promising student back in the day, but lost her marbles after she got into practicing weapons. She ca do something that can surprise most people, except for the ones that are obviously more intellectual than her.

Beriiel walked swiftly through the school grounds, bearing a folder containing handwritten notes. Her lessons plans to be specific - hastily made in transit to the Academy.

Overhead, her dragon companion Myst flew, looking for a convenient roosting spot, she had gotten a little too big to be carried around.

Wonder what the students will be like? Beriiel thought to herself, hoping that her foundation make-up would withstand scrutiny. After all, her race wasn't exactly well known - and there was still the possibility of resentment towards them.

Arriving at the door, Beriiel took a moment to centre herself , it wouldn't do to show any sort of uncertainty on her first day.

Entering the room, she strode towards the front - where her desk was located, as she walked she noticed that some students had already arrived - but also that there were a quite a few empty seats.

Placing her folder down, she turned to the class.

"Is that all of you present - or are we still waiting on more?" Her amber eyes swept over those already there, mentally counting and comparing the number she had been given to expect.

As she spoke another student entered, this one a human female with a golden glow. Must be the sesseljae representative

---

Agatha/Jolinar arrived at her destination, not a moment too soon it seemed - since the teacher appeared ready to start.

She quickly took the nearest available seat. Hopefully the seat hadn't already been reserved by one of the other students.

The dragon on her shoulder sighed in relief - at least there was no more movement to compensate for. Now to get comfortable, or at least as comfortable as one could get in class.

Lorf

Courtyard

Then Hallway

Then back to Courtyard

Lorf jumped back when Deja opened his wings. His cloak had almost gotten burned. "Deja, are you ok?" Lorf asked. Then the bell gave a loud clang again. Its the next period already? he thought. "We should head over to class" Lorf said to Deja. Well, he wasn't sad gym was over. He never had to do anything like that before. We didn't even have time to spar, but i guess thats a good thing Lorf thought. He walked into the Academy and over to the science room when he suddenly remembered his egg. He ran back to get his egg. Oh no, i think im going to be late Lorf thought. He was nearly back at the courtyard when he passed a strange human with bluish skin and that dragon! He stopped for a moment, then realized the dragon must belong to that person, who was probably a teacher. He saw the dragon give a small grin, but Lorf took off running again to get to his egg.

Relan (teacher)

First floor Hallways

Relan decided he could head over to his room, but first he wanted to quickly check to make sure the spell he had placed on his classroom was working. He walked over to it as th bell sounded again. That bell is way too loud Relan thought. Darik followed him to the magic classroom. He looked inside, everything was much darker already. It would definitely be ready bye the mourning. Relan walked to the stairs when a large lizard ran passed him. The Shargonac stopped and looked at him and Darik, then took off running again. "Darik, you didn't really do something already, did you?" Relan said.

James grinned happily as he pulled himself up out of the ground in front of Mizuki. "Haha, what took you so long. I've been here for like one minute," He said merrily. He turned and smiled at the teacher.

"Don't worry mam, we just had gym. I think some people are still a bit sore, so they're probably walking a bit slower than usual to class. I don't see why they'd be sore, I mean we were only doing jogging, but I suppose five laps might be a bit much for some of them. That winged girl seemed like she might be struggling, but I don't think she was built for athleticism, more for beauty. Her wings weren't gold today, they were gold yesterday," James cut himself off and scratched the back of his head embarrassed. He quickly seated himself down, trying not to look at the teacher.

At the reply, Beriiel nodded now understanding the reason behind the unfilled seats.

"In that case, I shall wait a few minutes for the other students to arrive before making introductions." It would give her time to work out how to introduce herself - without broadcasting her nature as one of the Astral Elves. She wasn't yet sure how many - beyond the Headmaster - already knew for certain.

Her black dragon had settled in one of the open window-spaces, where she could keep an eye on events - both inside and outside, and not be in danger of squishing anyone. Not that she was in anyway full-grown yet - but she was aware of the limitations due to her size.

-----

[Going to assume James's hasty seat is next to Jolinar - though if its not, she's talking to a random student]

Agatha/Jolinar only just managed not to flinch under the amber gaze of the science teacher, if only because she was fully aware of the small dragon on her shoulder - one that seemed comfortable.

"That gaze is creepy." She muttered to the student next to her, trying to engage in conversation to get her mind off the feeling - at least while waiting for the others to show.

Felic

Courtyard -> Science class

Sin was hesitant, Felic picked that up far easier than anything else from any of the other students. It made sense though, as he interacted more often with her than with others; save Sorge and Mitch of course. Still, he also felt the excitement that Tatsuke and his closest friends gave off almost as easily. That didn't matter though (but the Empath nearly giggled, all but knocked off his feet by the sudden burst).

How did he feel about what happened? Honestly? "I felt sick...." That was the most he could figure out, having spent at least a couple of hours trying to separate his emotions from those that Sin and Al'nivte had. "I still feel a bit sick. Al'nivte isn't someone I want to be near, someone I need to avoid as much as possible." Sin probably wouldn't blame Felic for feeling as such and expressing that fact. Had he been "ballsy" and brave for his actions last night? The Empath wasn't sure.

A frown crossed his features, taking a few moments to just focus on his pace and his breathing. "I don't know why I tried punching him a second time. It almost felt like he was goading me though...." Glancing at Sin, he allowed himself a tiny, shy, smile. "You think I was brave?"

The bell that dominated the rooftop of the Academy tolled and Felic came to a halt, looking back at the impressive building. Science was after Gym and, while it wasn't his least favorite, he still found it a bit tedious to follow. However, he was optimistic that perhaps, this year, it would be better. They had a new teacher, didn't they? Maybe the new instructor would be less monotone during lectures and possibly provide more activities for the class to do. He was now expecting one of the newer students to ask, when given the opportunity, if they were going to blow anything up during the year. A student asked that last year and their former teacher gave them a firm "no." In fact, they barely did anything that wasn't strict paperwork or reading assignments.

Grabbing his belongings, he easily slipped his coat and tie back on. The jogging didn't leave him with too much of a raised temperature, his focus having shifted elsewhere and thus slowing his pace as a consequence. It still took him a short while to regulating his breathing again but he wasn't going to be bothered by wearing his coat. Besides, it was lightweight fabric; more for style than for warmth.

Down the hallways, around some corners, he passed the stairwells that led to the second floor, passed the Hatchery, cafeteria, and other classrooms until he found the room designated for Science. A sense of unease and embarrassment met Felic before he had reached the doorway; new students for sure. He recognized James's frequently occurring emotion but the unease belonged to someone he hadn't met yet. Well, they would cross paths at some point and he could meet them then.

Out of habit, he looked for two adjacent seats, having a preference for sitting closer to the front of the room. He took a desk in the second row that hugged the right-side wall. That left Sin the option to sit either in front of, next to, or behind him. However, she typically chose to sit at his side, often forgetting something like a writing utensil or simply so she could easily lean over and make a comment of one sort or another; most made him laugh.

Al’nivte

Courtyard -> Science class

Shoot. Gym certainly ended sooner than Al had expected. However, that was certainly typical; keeping track of time wasn’t much of a strong point for him, but he didn’t care anyway. Without a hitch in his pace, he headed for the massive doors that led inside, grabbing his coat with little thought, and followed the throng of students to Science. Some students opted to ditch, others lingered to chat with friends or new acquaintances, while the rest made their way like good little children. Again, he asked himself why he was bothering.

Oh, that’s right. As he entered the filling classroom, he immediately spotted Sin and Felic. The Empath was presently taking out a notebook, pencil, and a few pens. The supplies weren’t like the ones back at Al’nivte’s home but, he was able to understand the purpose similarities. ”Well, look at you Ic!” Situating himself in the seat behind the Empath, the Uccello leaned back in his chair and idly examined his dark claws. ”Is science your thing? You look like the math type but, I could still be surprised. Like that punch you threw last night!” Clicking his tongue against the roof of his beaked mouth, Al shook his head and made a sort of tsk’ing sound crossed with hums. He leaned forward and extended a clawed hand between the pair of senior students. ”We started out on the wrong footing. Care to start over?” Beaked creatures just shouldn’t try to smile; they could be misinterpreted but, if anyone could understand that, it’d be Sin and her toothy grin.

Al’nivte watched as Felic’s eyes narrowed a fraction, staring the Uccello in all four of his eyes. Surely, the boy would be gracious enough to give the new student a second chance? It would be much more interesting to break their backs when they weren’t truly expecting it. Of course, he wasn’t going to be all friendly with them. No, that was a repulsive idea! Him? Making friends with a human? His tutor would laugh until he had tears! Besides, he couldn’t stand the stench for very long. He merely chose to sit so close to them in an attempt to put them on edge. They were certainly easy enough to rile up when you pushed the right buttons. And Al’nivte had found some good ones last night during their brief encounter.

It was quite entertaining for him actually. H - ”I don’t trust you….”

The Uccello grinned, the expression showing better in his eyes than through his beak. ”I’m stung, Ic! I thought you were a nicer lad than that! Why don’t you trust me? I’ve apologized for last night, haven’t I?” Perhaps this fleshy-thing had another surprise waiting for Al within his sleeves? Could he read minds? No… Al’nivte didn’t quite think so. Nothing in the boy’s expression revealed that he knew what passed through the Uccello’s mind. Maybe it was something else. Oh, what was the term? A hunch? Something like that….

Anyways, moving on. Felic didn’t seem privy to answer Al’s half-hearted questions and the Uccello shrugged the matter off, mumbling a “fine, suit your self,” expression and leaning back once more in his seat. Whatever Sin was sure to comment on, Al’nivte didn’t do much to respond to her except through brief glances. He would focus on her later.

"Hey, no need to brag about how fast you can go." Said Mizuki, as she took a seat next to the guy who just asked her for a race. "It was no fair anyway, you kept phasing through walls. It was a big advantage, anyway. Took me like a few seconds just to look for all those ledges to climb on." She continued.

Most of the students were already there, although there weren't enough to start the class. "What if I talked to the teacher for a while? She looks nice." She thought. But it would be a waste of time. Class was nearly starting.

Dain stood as the three of his friends stood up. He groaned in anguish as Tatsuke said that science was indeed a required course. This just meant that he had to pay attention and couldn't skip like he would prefer to do. After the few hellos, and sudden goodbye's with Devon and Sya, Dain and (assuming Tatsuke) made their way to science. "So what if I don't want to take Science? Which by the way, only fools would think that the sky is a giants eye and the clouds sheep. The sky is obviously a giant ocean that is held in place by an invisible wall and the clouds are actually the belly of the fish." Dain was of course joking, but it didn't matter. "Oh, I know! Tatsie, let me drink some of your blood so I can seem smart!"

Dain ran off quickly after his statement as to not be late. He let Tatsuke there to attempt to figure out if he was joking with his last statement or not. As Dain arrived he noticed many kids already in the room, yet a few not there as well, though, this was to be expected considering the fact that there are some new students. Dain found his seat about the middle of the class and figured it was fine. He didn't care for the last science teacher, and doubt he would like this one.

Devon

Courtyard and Academy

Another person might shy away from going against someone as brilliant as Tatsuke, but not Devon. Quite the opposite in fact. She loved the challenge outcome from both mental and physical challenges. Barely able to hide the excitement from her voice, Devon's smile broadened and replied softly, "Then I shall look forward to it even more. We will see you in class. Would you please let the professor know Sya and I will be late? We shouldn't be too long. We had all better get going though. I don't want to make you late and the sooner we find the Headmaster the sooner we get to class. I don't want to miss any more class than I have to. See you there in a little while."

Devon waited for everyone to say their goodbyes before she led Sya and their young dragons towards her rucksack and slung it over her shoulder as they walked towards the Academy doors. It worried her that the messenger her people had sent hadn't arrived, and Devon knew even Sya was contemplating what that meant. Devon thanked Sya when he held the door open for her and stepped across the threshold. Devon wondered if they should go to the Headmasters office, or if he was randomly going to appear out of nowhere like last year, which nearly gave her a heart attack. She decided they should make their way to the third floor just in case. If he was going to show up then there was plenty of time for him to do so.

**You're thinking about Him aren't you? Are you going to tell the others? I bet you're going to tell Tatsuke first!** Sent the Blusang Lindwurm slithering along side Devon. She was his whole world, and Rory always knew when something was bothering Devon.

Devon smiled to her young dragon replied, **Yes I am thinking about that. I will tell the others when the time is right. Let's not talk about that right now though. We have a letter to deliver.**

Rory smiled back as he sent, **Okay!** To Sya, Devon and Iris he continued, **I wonder what school will be like this year. Last year was so much fun! What do you guys think the new students will be like? I can't wait to meet them all!**

Syasurru

Courtyard and Academy

Sya groaned right along with Dain at the thought of having to take science class. If he could skip it he would, but nooooooo he had to have a dragon who loved the tedious task of studying. He loved Iris to bits and pieces, there was no doubt in anyone's mind about that, he just didn't see the need to be cooped up for hours on end doing something he found so very boring. As they said their goodbyes, Sya smiled and said, "Yes we will be there. I truly wish we could be anywhere else than class, but we don't really have a choice this year do we. Ah well. See you there anyways!"

He knew Devon wanted to keep things lighthearted for now. However even Sya couldn't help but worry about the events which transpired to make them late. It made him wonder what he might do if he was in her shoes. He'd never experienced anything remotely like what she was dealing with, but he doubted he would be able to handle things the way Devon was. He knew Devon would tell Tatsuke, probably tonight while they played Go. If she would tell the others... Well that was up to Devon. Knowing her as well as he did, that meant she'd tell only the senior students. She wouldn't want to worry the new students unless there was no other choice, of course. From what he'd seen at gym class, it wouldn't be because she thought they couldn't handle themselves. No Devon just wouldn't want anyone to worry, or ask questions she would be uncomfortable answering. As he opened the door for the four of them, Sya wondered what Devon was going to do when the time came until Rory interrupted his thought process with his usual cheerfulness. "Yes from what I saw in gym, it looks like we've got quite the interesting crew this year. Some of them look like fun to hang around. Who knows, but at least it will be fun to find out." Sya replied with the faint hint of a mischievous smile playing across his lips.

Iris caught that smile and gave Sya a dirty look as she said, "I know exactly what you're thinking Mister. If you do anything to that gets people other than yourself in trouble, you won't have to worry about what punishment the teacher gives you."

"Dearest Iris, why what ever do you mean? I have no plans for mischief what-so-ever. I was simply stating my views..."

"I know you better than you know yourself. I know what you left out 'yet' after 'what-so-ever' on purpose. You promised remember?"

"Yes Mother I remember. I won't break my promise to you. There are lots of ways I can have my fun that won't affect my word to you one iota." Sighing Sya continued, "I hope we find the Headmaster soon. I may not like class, but all I want to do is sit somewhere and rest. How on earth do you're people walk, or worse run, everywhere and manage to not break a sweat?"

Devon chuckled at Sya's reply to Rory and the resulting exchange between him and Iris. Devon smiled and replied with her usual soft voice, "If you'd had as much practice as I have in running in the tropical heat, then you too would be able to run like we do as well. Oh I would just love to see you go through the courses we had to go through, or running from one side of Naga/Siren lands to the other and back until you get sick from exhaustion..."

"Please, I beg for mercy! Just thinking about it makes my stomach turn," Sya chuckled quietly so they wouldn't disturb anyone.

Nothing happened in Kaio's school without Kaio being privy to it. That was at least what nearly everyone in the school dictated as fact, and there was no debate that the third floor was ruled by the mysterious Headmaster. He could have come at a sooner time, when they were not on the forbidden third floor, without question. He did it all the time when dangerous shenanigans took place. But for whatever reason, he did not appear until Devon and Syassuru had reached the third floor.

When he appeared in close range, the air itself changed. The atmosphere, filled with oxygen and whatever meaningless elements congregated and soon seemed like a thick substance that pressed on all sides like water. Some mammalian students felt their hair standing on end, reptilian students felt their blood warming or chilling. This was most likely the reason no one had ever attempted to stroke his carapace-like 'skin'. If simply being within three feet could seemingly change the air itself, who wanted to risk placing their limb at the center of such unnatural disruption?

Whether he phased through the floor like a ghost or he simply materialized, he had appeared behind the Fairy and the Naga. Perhaps so they wouldn't see how he appeared, perhaps so they wouldn't turn tail and fall down the stairs. "This is a matter of great importance." His voice appeared as suddenly has he had. Was it a statement or a question? It certainly sounded like a statement. "Come to my office." His powerful tail flicked as if beckoning and he hovered in front of them, leading him to his office. No formalities were necessary with senior students.

Tatsuke

Courtyard ---> Science

His eyes rolled around his sockets at the sound of his friends bellyaching. They just didn't understand the importance of studying and learning, and didn't see how interesting it could be if they just paid attention. Why, without Science, Tatsuke would never have known how to draw a contour map or how blood clots to stop bleeding. Maybe those skills would come in handy some day! Even if they didn't, it was all something that made him a little brighter than he was yesterday.

He nodded at Syassuru and Devon as they left. It was no problem to let the teacher know. Once they turned to leave Dain and him turned to go to science, Dain griping about it all the way. He shook his head like a disbelieving smile and furrowed brows as Dain claimed the world was floating in an ocean knowing he was joking, and he had no doubt he was also joking when he asked to drink his blood. No one asks seriously then bolts away... besides, this is Dain. "I tell you, my blood give you no sleep, turn you into werewolf student. Howl at night to pictures of moon in textbooks!"

He tried to run after him but fell behind. Dain was quick. No matter, however, once he got to the class he took his usual seat at the close side of the room near the front. He sat here so he could be close to the board, but far from the window so there would be no distractions to himself. They were going to have a new teacher this year so he could have changed his seat, but he enjoyed where he sat. The teacher from last year was bland and did nothing more than assign work and teach the lesson without adding the slightest bit of excitement to his class, so Tatsuke had no opinion on him. He was just a teacher. Maybe this one would be a bit more interesting and a little nicer on their workload.

Sin

Courtyard ---> Science

If the bell had been any later, she would have assured him of his valor. But the chime ruled all, and they had to be off.

Felic didn't have to tire himself at all with that light jog. For a human like him, it was a small feat to keep up that pace. Sin however, had given a modest effort. But she was thanking her aunt's summer training that had made her able to keep up that pace for that short amount of time without breaking a sweat. Not to say she had given all of her energy to it, just that she gave more than just a little. Azazels had a lot of weight to lug around. They were the tanks of the Humanoids, and one doesn't expect a tank to keep the speed of a car without a bit more hustle.

Upon reaching the room Sin took her seat beside Felic, though she would have preferred to sit near the back considering the class. The old teacher and her didn't get along at all because of conflicting personalities. He assigned work, she usually copied answers or drew bad pictures. He demanded attention, she passed notes. She had to stop herself from singing when they entered the topic of chemical reactions in the brain that cause behavior when he asked "What is love?" But they were getting a new teacher this year. The Azazel eyed her up and down for a moment. A female elf. She tried to make an assumption at first glance, guessing to herself that this one would at least be more unique than the old teacher. Elves tended to be very strict and cultural, right? So she could probably count on still getting a lot of work from this class. Or maybe not? It was wrong of her to assume stereotypes in the Academy especially considering her best friend was human.

It was about this time the bird-lion-man-thing came in and took a plump seat right behind them. Well, there goes the year. She glanced at Felic during the exchange, ready to go with however he felt. He was an Empath and Al'nivte was ultimately his 'foe'. He made judgements based on things she could never hope to feel, while Azazels and animals seemed to be closer to animals than the average Humanoid Felic's sixth sense was sharper than the tip of a spear. If he sensed utmost sincerity, which Sin doubted he would find, she would follow his call but keep her eye on the Ucello. Thankfully, she didn't have to walk on eggshells because he outright denied Al'nivte. Felic didn't trust him? Then Sin didn't either. Good, they were in agreement.

She wanted to turn now so they could both ignore him... but her smart mouth couldn't resist a sharp comment. She mumbled it in a raised whisper, just loud enough that Al'nivte would only hear if he was paying attention, "It must be hard to talk with a beak... too bad he doesn't speak with his mouth."

Al'nivte and Felic

Science

The Uccello turned his yellow-green gaze onto Sin as she made her audible whisper. Still holding a pleasant tilt in his voice, Al rested his jaw against his fist, propping his elbow on the table. "Why, so kind of you to notice my troubles! Yes, I do experience an unfavorable time with pronouncing certain words but one learns a lot about their shortcomings and how to work around or improve them. Now, while a mouth with lips would be easier for conversation, I prefer my beak; it can do more damage when desired." He shrugged his shoulder, clearly unbothered by Sin's attempt to vex him.

"Though, it appears you might have things a tad confused inside your pretty, little head. I'm no shapeshifter, Sweetheart. But then, I guess you wouldn't know very much, would you? I shouldn't have expected more from a rock-dwelling demon such as yourself. Oh! The disappointment reminds me, where's your quivering parakeet friend? Roosting in a tree calling for crackers?" Dragons typically coaxed a form of respect out of Al, just like Phoenixes did and, to a faint degree, Unicorns. However, the wyvern he'd seen last night reminding him more of a small, mindless, bird one could find in a human's pet shop or home.

His gaze flickered to Felic, knowing his basic emotions last night when Al had decided to verbally assault the trio of seniors. The boy looked a tad bit ridged now, expression betraying the fact that the boy did not hide his emotions all that often. Good. The Uccello enjoyed seeing the reactions he gathered from his encounters. However, it seemed the boy would not be pushed again like last night as he turned around in his seat to face forward again. "Just ignore him, Sin... He's trying to goad us and I won't cause a disruption in class. He's not worth it."

Al'nivte felt a bit of true disappointment at Felic's comment, not really happy that he hadn't succeeded much in ruffling their "feathers." However, there would be more chances later when they weren't in class and the little scholarly boy couldn't interrupt class.

"Although, maybe he's just looking for attention instead. Someone to guide him through tricks and feed him crackers with each "good job" he does." Oh, yes he did. Felic made his own sharp comment at Al and the Uccello paused, four eyes narrowing a fraction. Al'nivte didn't respond this time, resuming his declined position with his clawed hands situated behind his head.

[Assuming everyone's who's going to arrive on time has arrived - just to get the class ball rolling.]

As more students filtered in and took up seats, Beriiel mentally went through the first lesson plan.

When it looked like no more would be coming in, she called the class to attention - ending most conversations, though a few murmurs could still be heard.

"Before we start on this year's curriculum, I believe a few introductions are in order."

"My name is Beriiel Rhuinae," she began, once she was sure of everyone's attention, "and the black dragon in the window is called Myst."

At the mention of her name, Myst inclined her head in a form of bow.

"Does anyone have any questions or concerns before we start?"

[To forestall the pronunciation question - it's 'Berry-el Ruin-eye' xd.png]

Mizuki felt like something was missing in the introduction. She asks, "Would that be everything? No background stories? No information of you education? You've made your introduction so short, that it's as if you're hiding something. Is there something hidden about you, miss Beriel?"

[[im in school so sorry for the quick post.]]

[short/quick post ok - I can work with it xd.png]

It seemed that at least one student was more aware of the concealing silent words than the others, as instead of a question concerning the subject content the first vocalised question was about her background.

"Perhaps I could tell a few stories - though that is not why I am here." Beriiel conceded, then she paused as if considering where to begin. Though it was really to compose herself for speaking about something she hadn't prepared herself for.

"How I met Myst will have to do for now, so I don't neglect my educational duties too much." That should forestall any further questions on her past - though not too harshly as a vehement denial would further suspicion, and there was a vague hint that further stories could be told in the future.

At least this tale isn't that painful - or revealing....

"It was during the tail end of the war, while going about one of my mercy missions, I came across the site of a recent battle. Wanting to avoid as much trouble as I could, I started to skirt the area."

"A loud cracking noise stopped me in my tracks however. Looking for the source, so I knew what to expect and act accordingly, I located a dragon egg that was just starting to hatch."

"I didn't really want to be nearby if the parents returned and found signs of battle near their nest and my presence, but I wasn't the only one that had been attracted by the sound. One of the participants in the battle also approached the cracking egg and emerging hatchling."

"From the insignia on the armour - I could identify a member of the Dragonslayers."

"I couldn't leave a newborn being to such a fate. I ran in, grabbed the hatchling from the egg and fled."

"That hatchling is now sitting in the window." Beriiel smiled at Myst, remembering the dragon's insistence that she was 'mommy'. Then she turned her attention back to class.

"Any other questions or concerns?"

After hearing what Miss Beriiel had just said, she still felt that she was hiding something, as if she never wanted anyone to know something about her. "She's hiding something. I know it.", she thought, while being quiet just to calm down herself.
