Pagos Epochi - The Time of Ice

user posted image

Millions of years ago, life as we know it was utterly wiped out. Sheets of glacial ice ripped up entire countries and continents. The human race was utterly destroyed. Technology couldn't advance quickly enough, and their frail bodies perished easily in the cold. The surface of the earth was reformed, familiar landscapes became nothing but rubble. For hundreds of thousands of years, the planet was covered in ice.

For a while, dragons thrived. Freed from their human oppressors, they enjoyed life to the fullest. Over the years their lives grew short. The irrepressible cold and lack of food forced their numbers down to a few thousand. Then, a few hundred. Finally, only a handful were left. The Christmas holidays among them thrived on the ever-present winter, but it wasn't long before they tired of it. They gathered supplies, the few remaining eggs, and their courage. They sought solace in subterranean caves warmed by the earth's core. They lived in darkness and gloom for thousands of years.

Eventually, the wrath of the snowstorm subsided. Plants began to grow, pushing through the ice and snow. A new spring came across the earth. Strange new species surfaced, brought out by the sudden sunshine. Soon the dragons heard of the change. A few restless dragons left the safety of the caves to eke out a new life above. Some stayed behind, unsure of the fickle weather.

You are one of the few that made it through the Ice Age- but will you survive now that it's over? Will you die at the claws of another dragon, will you die of starvation? You're not in the clear just yet- fate can be just as cold.

Plot (Updated as the story progresses)

Even thought the ice is receding, food and shelter are scarce. Dragons have taken to fighting with each other for the bare necessities. A few of the more violent species have banded together, forming "raiding parties". They fight over the best hunting grounds and the choicest kills, killing anyone who threatens their fragile security. Murmurs of unrest have reached the ears of everyone, even the smallest hatchling. The land is on the brink of chaos.

More rumors are circulating the snowy winter plains, stories of piratical monsters and a skeletal Ice. Eggs and hatchlings have been kidnapped. Villages lay in frostbitten ruins. Entire colonies wiped out in a night, and nothing is left. The hardiest dragons wave off the threats; they've seen it all before. Bandits and robbers are useless on the cold surface. A few of the scared and tired take warning, and delve deeper into their safe, secure, impenetrable caves. Tension mounts.

Just one more thing: I would really appreciate it if you could all post in color <3 Not only does it make it easier to distinguish person from person, it also makes the whole RP much prettier/festive.

~ Ayesthine:

Username: Ayesthine

Name: Absalom

Gender: Male

Age: Adult/Ancient

Breed: Winter Magi

Appearance: The Winter Magi's scales have dulled to a grayish hue after his centuries underground. His wingspan is massive, and his body is large and hulking.

Picture: user posted image

Personality: Absalom is an omnipotent, fatherly figure to all who live in the caves. He is the oldest dragon on earth, and his wisdom knows no bounds. His age and knowledge make him distant to all but his closest friends. He is patient and kind, slow to anger and quick to listen. When he is roused, though, his fury is terrible to behold.

Bio: He is the only dragon who remembers life before the Ice Age. He is millions of years old, as far as anyone can count. Some say he is the original Winter Magi, the one who brought in the first Christmas. All of that is just speculation. It couldn't possibly be true... could it?

Power: Like most Winter Magi, he has control of the weather. This is his only known and showcased power. Other than that, who knows?

Other: He won't be much of an "active" character. Meaning, he isn't going to go out and help you rescue someone, but he'll give you advice on how to do it.

Username: Ayesthine

Name: Bwriadol (Doll)

Gender: Female

Age: Adult/Ancient

Breed: Copper Dragon

Appearance: Doll is a rich, sienna brown wyvern. Instead of the coppery sheen natural to her species, her scales dulled to a leathery texture. The sharp talons on her wings and feet have been honed to needle-thinness, and the curving horns at her temples are large and heavy.

Picture: user posted image

Personality: Bwriadoll is naturally a motherly person, but circumstances led her to become someone else entirely. She's suspicious, aggressive, and overly defensive. She's protective of whomever she considers a friend, and will willingly put her life on the line to save someone else. She dropped all formalities years ago, and is incredibly forward.

Bio: Doll was one of the few dragons born in the caves. She lives primarily there, but often ventures out on the surface. She hatched at a dark time in the caves. Araiandy, a Yulebuck caretaker, had gone insane. He haunted the other dragons for years, stealing food and making messes. He quickly moved from petty theft to murder, kidnapping, and torture. Because of this, Doll learned quickly how to defend herself. One of her fist actions as an Adult was to track the insane Holiday down, and kill it. She now works as a recon agent for the caretakers. She is sent out into the wilds to retrieve lost dragons, or to bring aid.

Power: Like most Coppers, Doll is incredibly skilled at hunting and killing. Her soft, leathery-brown scales blend in with most everything, making her a stealthy killer.

Other: Noop.

~ Doctortear:

Username: Doctortear

Name: Evie Nather

Age: Adult

Gender: Female

Breed: Turpentine

Appearance:She is wall-eyed, meaning one eye is looking up while the other looks down. In truth, only one eye is "broken" and that is her left eye. She is nothing but skin and bone. Her fragile frame has little to no meat on it. Her stomach is pressed inwards and her collarbone pokes out. Her legs are nothing but twigs looking as though they'll break at any moment. Signs of frostbite cover her skin. Her Old wounds are plagued by the frozen wasteland and every part of her. She is literally a walking corpse.

Picture: user posted image

Personality: Despite the circumstances, Evie is rather jolly. She isn't overly cheerful and is timid around strangers. Evie is very sensitive, especially when it comes to her "broken" eye. However, she can snap at someone when she needs to and her mood can turn sour if she is provoked. Evie can be brutally honest and won't understand if someone gets upset over her honesty. She can sometimes be oblivious to others' feelings and finds it hard to understand other people. She questions the world around her, but is very naive and will take almost anything as an answer. She freaks out and panics during drastic situations. She'll try to help in anyway she can, even if she messes up most of the time.

Bio: She didn't stay too long with her family. She was left by her mother after she saw Evie's disability. Evie had to survive on her own for the first couple years of her life. She barely made it, but just right when she was about to drop, a kind old stranger took care of her. This old timer taught Evie to always be positive even when hell broke loose. After decades of living with this elder, Evie finally left after he died, burying his body and never looking back. Now, Evie lives by herself. She tries to make friends, but it's been rather hard when everyone is suspicious of each other.

Power: Evie seems to be able to fix the oddest of things. She never really tries, but sometimes, Evie can find herself understanding something she's seen before. This may be due to the fact that she looks at things differently from everyone else.

Other: She isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

Username: Doctortear

Name: Felix Mitch

Gender: Male

Age: Ancient

Breed: Gray

Appearance: Old age has taken its toll on the old gray. His scales are dull and his body aches. He has sharp golden eyes and a sharp tongue. His horns have been sharpened to a point and his claws are thick and long. His serpent like body holds two massive wings with muscles bundling all around them.

Picture:user posted image

Personality: Felix is rather calm and quiet. He keeps to himself and doesn't enjoy interacting with others. He seems indifferent to most things and usually lets others deal with the problem at hand. He used to be hot-headed like most of breed, but he has managed to remove this factor after millenniums of life. Felix doesn't care much about other dragons and simply enjoys being alone in the sky.

Bio: Felix hatched a very long time ago. He hatched a little after the ice age first started. After he was around twenty, he ran around from his family to live on his own. He watched as the ice age slowly sapped the life out of the world. He saw untold horrors unfold and kept his distance from those who were dangerous. Felix spent his days training himself to control the weather around him. He hunted for food that was scarce and drank water from the storm clouds he created. Soon, Felix decided that life was becoming too difficult for him. His once plump stomach was replaced with ribs poking his skin and his once strong body was now wilting. He found Lask Frildur and his horde and took an interest in it. He joined the horde and made a deal. As long as he was fed, Felix would lend his skills to the horde. Now, he spends his days in the sky; keeping his distance from everyone around him and waiting silently to be called upon.

Power: His control over the weather is phenomenal. He can create storm clouds that block out the sun and lighting to strike down upon the earth. However, due to his old age and personality, he rarely does anything huge. He doesn't care for the sound of thunder and prefers the soft beat of a light shower. His powers are limited by his lack of energy and lack of wanting to mess with the weather.

Other: He has a fascination with creatures trapped in amber.

~ Taleena Fuka:

Username: Taleena Fuka

Name: Hairo Taikyu (Kyu)

Gender: Female

Age: Adult/Ancient

Breed: Ribbon Dancer

Appearance: Over the years her brilliant green scales have dulled to a grayish look but her scales still retain their shiny, reflective look. She prefers to stay in her mature hatchling form, but will show her true adult form when she wants to show authority or whenever she deems necessary.

Picture: user posted image

Personality: Loves saying "kyu" a lot and she a bit crazy, playful, and carefree. Kyu is often found hidden deep in the snow or frolicking in the snow. Despite being a care taker, she often shirks her "duty" to tell stories to other dragons and instead likes prank others by abusing her powers for her own enjoyment and then quickly fleeing.

Bio: She was once a dutiful storyteller and always used to gift every dragon she met with a lovingly made snow sculpture. Her specialty used to be spreading generosity and laughter, but as time went on others around her began becoming selfish and only thought of themselves. One day when someone destroyed her snow sculpture she gifted right in front of her she pranked them by teleporting their food storage into the "broken" snow sculpture and showed them a terrible illusion afterwards. While she was initially dismayed by it she personally found that acting this way was the only way to teach the others of this era a lesson.

Power: Makes it snow when she wants, teleport short distances, create minor illusions(?)

Other: When she IS doing her job, she loves making snow sculptures to gift to others and uses illusions to help tell stories.

Username: Taleena Fuka

Name: Sora Syali (pronounced so-rah sha-li)

Gender: Male

Age: 13-15 in human years

Breed: UltraViolet

Appearance: Normal... For now.

Picture: user posted image

Personality: Naive of the world, and believes that he has endured plenty of hardships already. At this point, all he needs to do is step forward and prove himself.

Bio: He lost his parents just before the dragons deemed it okay to venture out into the world again. He has mourned their loss for a very long time and stayed within the safety of the cave.

Power: He will use his claws, fangs and especially his tail to defend himself. Can breathe a small blue flame, but never uses it in battle because he never bring it forth in tense moments.

Other: Often looking for flat rocks to sun bathe on. Occasionally moon bathes on the full moon and when it is humid outside.

~ XxDragonletxX:

Username: XxDragonletxX

Name: Tirren

Gender: Female

Age: Mature Hatchling

Breed: Coastal Waverunner

Appearance: Tirren's black blue hide is now a dark blue-grey grey due to the long months of staying underground and having to struggle for food. Her light turquoise markings are now dull with the ocassional dirt here and there.

Picture: user posted image

Personality: Tirren is smart and observant. Even though she is a hatchling, she has learned a lot after the long, dark months of scavenging off of carcasses and hunting whatever little thing that the cold earth had to give. She observes things very closely and she learns whatever she can so that she can survive later. She uses big words.

Bio: Tirren doesn't really know much about her family. She can never trace her family tree back to anyone besides herself. All she remembers is hatching underground and surviving alone in the cold months of darkness.

Power: Tirren doesn't really have a power except she is excellent when it comes hunting in the snow

Other: Tirren likes to go 'hunting' at night.

~ Bacon_Strips:

Username: Bacon_Strips

Name: Nigh

Gender: Male

Age: Young Adult

Breed: Dark Myst Pygmy

Appearance: Aside from his wings being noticeably damaged from birth, he looks like any other Dark Myst.

Picture: user posted image

Personality: Nigh is a quiet, solemn, and serious dragon, which alone make him look like an outcast, at times even seeming completely unemotional by his nature. He doesn't mind being different from the rest, however, and rarely tries drawing attention to himself, acting more as a follower than a leader. He is respectful to others around him and doesn't enjoy arguing with others verbally, though he may disagree with them in his mind.

Bio: When Nigh was a mere hatchling, his parents were violently killed during a raid for food. At the time, he was living alone with just them in an underground cave, and the attack scarred him mentally for life. To this day, he continues to suffer from haunting nightmares of his parents' dead bodies. After the raid, he ran away from the cave, searching for any other dragons he could find. Weak and afraid at the time, it took two months for him to come across Absalom's group, who took him in and cared for him. After he became healthy again, he decided to officially join the group.

Power: While Nigh has no real power, his natural quietness makes him rather stealthy, mainly at night. He is also capable of quick motions with his small stature, although it's hardly ever necessary.

Other: Because of his wings being damaged, he is a terrible flier, and prefers walking above all else. He is also aromantic-asexual.

~ Jass:

Username: Jass

Name: Ace

Gender: Male

Age: A mature hatchling

Breed: Albino

Appearance: Not much difference in appearance.

Picture: user posted image

Personality: He's a sloth, usually being too lazy for doing even the most simplest things, like actually getting up of bed, or listening. He occasionally acts playful, although its usually because he thinks there really is no choice but to do it. If you interest him enough, he may listen to you, or even follow you around to investigate. He usually holds a boring expression when awake, and he won't even bother to reply to other dragons sometimes.

Bio: Ace lived a dull life like any hatchling, or, at least, that was how he considered it. When his parents disappeared, he thought an adventure would come out of hiding and guide him the way. When he realized that not one thing that was very exciting came out of it to him, he deemed the world he sees "the most dullest of them all."

Power: Useless eye-glowing powers! :D

Other: "The world is revealing nothing exciting today." -quote from Ace

~Skiddajane:

Username: Skiddajane

Name: Oliver

Gender: Male

Age: Adult

Breed: Horse Dragon

Appearance: Just like a normal horse dragon, with the exception of a few raw patches of skin where frostbite has obviously taken its toll.

Picture:user posted image

Personality: Oliver is a naturally funny dragon, and often cracks jokes and tells funny stories to others. He often talks to himself in long conversations, although he is not really sure why. This is such an issue, that he may suddenly start conversing with himself in the middle of a conversation with another dragon. He is usually fine with being alone, and tends not to seek help from others because he likes to solve problems on his own. He has a strong belief that everyone needs to learn how to be self-reliant in case of a time where there may be no other dragons around to depend on.

Bio: When he was young, Oliver's mother was very protective over him, and he relied on her for nearly everything. He didn't have to do anything for himself, and when his mother died of starvation, he was left to completely fend for himself. As things got colder and food became scarce, he was forced into hibernation. When he awoke years later, he taught himself how to hunt and become a survivor. Since then, he has been afraid to depend on others.

Power: Being a horse dragon, he can take to the air quicker and quieter than most other dragons. In a warmer climate with less ice to slip on, he might be a very fast runner, but currently the conditions don't allow for it. He has excellent sight, and can spot prey and other dragons very easily, both in and out of flight.

Other: He really likes the taste of Conifers for some reason.

~tapir:

Username: tapir

Name: Knock

Gender: Male

Age: Elder

Breed: Pillow

Appearance: Upon meeting him, it is almost impossible to discern his breed. Unlike other Pillow dragons, Knock has lost all of his fur. You can clearly see his leather skin, the only scales being on his face and feet with patches along his tail.

Picture: user posted image

Personality: Knock is one of Lask's more succesful and.. lively experiemnts. His sense of right and wring is so imblanced that killing is more natural than listening. Everything, including his own life, is a joke. The only goal in life is to be viewed as an equal by his creator. He has adopted Lask's cynical air, and often undermines his peers through insults and needlesly violent pranks. His ties to the other dragons are nearly non-existant, as he pefers to work alone.

The only reason he helps along Lask's terrifying experiments is to gain the favour of his enigma of a leader. Otherwise, he would kill or abandon of all of his competition to get a chance to be the Ice's favorite.

Bio: One of Lask's first "experiments", and one of the few early ones to even survive, Knock has worked hard since he was a hatchling to gain the affection of his master. Knock's hair shed and never regrew due to the process of Neglect, leaving him more vulnerable to the cold than he might have been. However, his centuries spent forcing himself to experience the cold and to do the will of Lask have helped to toughen him. But in the end, his loyalties remain to Lask, and his wish is to one day be viewed as acceptable in Lask's eyes: to be allowed to be closer to him.

Power: None- strong willpower, but still physically fragile in the cold.

Other: He can be ruthless, but fair. Described as having his own set or morals, however twisted they may be. Knock does not kill at random or without purpose. He may throw a joke in at the least appropriate moment, or feign light-heartedness. Only he finds himself funny.

Age: Adult

Gender: F

Breed: Two-Headed

Appearance: She lost her left arm to frostbite

Picture:user posted image

Personality: Iceburn's two head's veiw themselves as completely separate entities, but an outsider wouldn't know that. They agree on everything and generally speak as if they were one. But in private things can get messy, neither of her two brains has very much self-esteem and she tends to have trouble coping with this in private.

Bio: Iceburn is young. Most of her life has been scavenging and defending herself. She lost her arm one night to the cold, she almost lost her life too.

Power: None

Other: Zactot xd.png Don't tell guy.

~ LegendOfKorraFan:

Username: LegendOfKorraFan

Name: Leonardo (Leo)

Gender: Male

Age: Adult/Ancient

Breed: Wrapping Wing

Appearance: Nothing special. Just normal

Picture: user posted image

Personality: Leonardo is a very picky dragon, and can be extremely fussy. He loves tending to hatchlings and telling stories to all. Leonardo is old fashioned, and can be serious at times. Although, due to being in the cave for so long, he has a rather short fuse when the hatchlings step out of line. In all honesty, Leo is a hopeless romantic, using all the tricks in the book and making up some as he goes.

Bio: Leonardo was a dedicated Care Taker in the beginning. He showed all the dragons with respect and taught them lessons through stories. But as the years have gone by, the stories he told gradually changed, and now has a warped sense of the history. He thinks things have happened that never actually did. His memory is now terrible, and the stuff that he does remember is completely different from the truth.

Power: Frost breath (NOT ice breath)

Other: He likes freezing flowers and giving them to people

Username: LegendOfKorraFan

Name: Stella

Gender: Female

Age: Young adult

Breed: Olive

Appearance: Paler than a regular Olive due to being underground for so long. She is actually very beautiful for an Olive dragon. She's thinner, but still retains a good amount of muscle.

Picture: user posted image

Personality: Stella is a foul. arrogant, manipulative, evil, sadistic, and down right jerk. She will use anything to her advantage, including her looks. She disguises her true intentions with a bubbly personality, but she often "breaks character" when annoyed. She will deceive anyone she can and use them to her advantage.

Bio: Stella was just a baby when it happened. She was cute, little, charming Stella before it happened. What was "it"?. She was kidnapped, abused, tortured, and endured terrible things through out her childhood. It's been twenty years since then, but it seems like Stella's the only one that remembers. She hates everyone and everything because of what happened to her, but deep down, she just wants someone to love and care for her, someone to vent to. But until that day comes, she will stay the disgusting dragon she is today.

Power: While not strong enough to kill anything larger than a small deer, her venom causes an extremely painful reaction and necrosis at the site of the wound, sometimes causing the flesh to rot and limbs to fall off, much like other Olives.

Other: She hates everything except fresh Maple leaves, which she's only seen once as a newborn hatchling.

~ Evensong:

Username: Evensong

Name: Freya Chinnook

Gender: Female

Age: Young Adult

Breed: Specklethroat

Appearance: Pretty in pink, with lovely rosy scales that fades to grey along her wingtips, paws, and her tail. She lacks the tail-stripes of most Speckletails, but still has the distinctive speckled throat. She's very pretty in a cutesy kind of way, although she's kind of clueless when it comes to guys and romance.

Picture: user posted image

Personality: Friendly and playful, with an almost child-like enthusiasm. She loves life and everything about it, and is usually bubbly and upbeat, and very, very sweet. She's adventurous and sometimes headstrong, even rebellious when she really wants to do something. She's usually easily distracted but can be surprisingly focused, and determined about some things. She can be very sensitive and emotional, and can go from Happy bouncing off the walls Freya to Depressed don't talk to me I'm sad Freya in a second. She's relatively slow to anger and quick to forgive and forget, and almost never holds grudges or hates others. However, when she does, she will hate them with all her heart, and never forgets. Her parents are both a sensitive topic and her mom the one dragon she is always searching to find. She's rather clumsy, and more of a flight rather than fight kind of dragon.

Bio: Freya's father was killed in an aboveground mission before she was hatched, and her mother had stayed only long enough to place her egg under the safekeeping of the elder dragons before she disappeared. She grew up with all the elders being her parents and family, and considers herself to be their adopted daughter.

Power: She can catch very distorted, unpredictable glimpses of a dragon's future and past, but it happens randomly, and she cannot control anything about it, from what she sees to when she sees it to even who's point of view she sees it from. She blacks out for a few seconds to an hour. She can almost never make out anything that happens in these "flashes", and one is always different from the last. She can only see flashes of dragons she's seen before, including herself. To be honest, it's more bothersome than helpful, especially when one blacks out during the middle of a battle to flash back to a few seconds of her eating toast.

Other:

~ SpiritWolfe:

Username: SpiritWolfe

Name: Sylvi

Gender: Female

Age: Adult/Ancient

Breed: Snow Angel

Appearance: Sylvi has a graceful, slender body with a narrow muzzle and long legs. Her scales are a soft, shimmering silver-white with distinct and elaborate emerald green and bright scarlet markings along her legs, tail, and horns, although they are quite a bit duller from her time living in subterranean caves. Her beautiful, silky, silver-feathered wings are tinged with delicate, pale gold.

Picture: user posted image

Personality: Sylvi is very straightforward and studious, curious and determined to gather knowledge no matter the situation, unlike her mysterious breed. She can sometimes be oblivious to others, but in truth, she is very gentle and soft-hearted, if not too sociable. She tries to live up to her name as a caretaker and can be motherly at times, gladly flicking her tail around for hatchlings to chase. She doesn't seem to be easily hurt by others and their words. If it comes to a quarrel, Sylvi can be a real fighter, defiant, relentless, and proud to the last.

Bio: Sylvi, as a caretaker, was one of the first dragons that sought and led the others to a home underground. When she heard of the change in the weather she was instantly curious, among one of the first and most intrigued dragons to venture to the surface. She roams across the snowy land often, despite her duties as a caretaker.

Power: Sylvi has no real 'power', but in her careful studies she has found a use for herbs in healing.

Other: N/A

~ Silverphoenixx:

Username: Silverphoenixx

Name: Nightingale

Gender: Female

Age: Mature hatchling

Breed: Blusang Lindwurm

Appearance: She has silvery highlights along the tips of her wings, and the normal blue and beige color scheme of Blusangs.

Picture: user posted image

Personality: Calm, but if you get her excited, she's going to be REALLY hyper. Like if she ate too much sugar. She can be humorous, but also serious. Normally though, she is calm and optimistic. Always has a smile on, except for dire times.

Bio: She was hatched during the time underground, around the time dragons started going outside above ground.

Power: Can disguise the sounds she makes and melt her appearance into the background. Basically expert stealth.

Other: None

~ tilldeathdouspart

Username: Tilldeathdouspart

Name: Saro

Gender: Male

Age: Adult

Breed: Flamingo Wyvern

Appearance: Saro, with the recent lack in food, is almost white due to lack of the nutrients which would normally turn his skin pink. The black crown on his head and the black strips along his wings are still intact, but being a pale offwhite still leaves him looking both very impressive, but also sickly to a dragon who knows better. Nonetheless, he carries himself with confidence, amber eyes always gleaming with a piercing gaze that is very hard to shake. His horns and the black "masked" crown on his head are both very impressive, and it is immediately evident that he is a mature male by the quality of his horns.

Picture: user posted image

Personality: Saro is fiercely intelligent, almost constantly taking down details - details about the dragons he meets, details about the surrounding, details in general. That being said, he masks it most of the time with cheesy jokes and light mischief - after the ice age, there is no room for anyone to be too serious, and he knows what a bit of comic relief - or someone being morbidly embarrassed by his bad jokes - can do to help someone in distress. Naturally, he is more serious, and keen, but he keeps up this playful demeanor for the benefit of others. On the side, he has a bit of a magpie tendancy, often picking up easily-carried items to carry and gift to people later.

Bio: This wyvern was hatched in the caves, grew up there, and is now wandering about with the other dragons. It's a miracle his species even had eggs left when they did, being a normally warm-weathered species, but his ancestors had lived in the mountain ranges, and were generally more used to the cold.

Power: Has a nearly photographic memory.

Other:

Username: TurtleDragon

Name: Flare

Gender: Male

Age: Hatchling

Breed: Hellfire Wyvern

Appearance: Flare's flames are a bright red when he is happy or excited although he is only a hatchling he already is bright as can be.

Picture:user posted image

Personality: Flare is usually happy. It takes a lot to bring him down to the level of sorrow found in some dragons. He is energetic and enjoys playing with toys (That are fireproof).

Bio: Flare was hatched only a while ago and is newly hatched. It is believed that his father lived in isolation and only met Flare's mother while hunting.

Power: He stays warm even in -10 F due to his flames being so strong so, it is believed he will be a great search and rescue dragon when he grows up. He was raised by a kind, loving, and thoughtful dragon of unknown breed as he cannot remember his "father's" face it is believed this is why he is such a nice hellfire wyvern.

Other: He has never seen his mother or father and is very sensitive about it. If you bring it up his flames will become dull and lifeless and you may not see him for 3 weeks or more. Although he is ok to talk to it with people who have had experiences that are similar.

Wreaths are strewn everywhere. The sounds of singing and laughter get louder as you reach the Great Cave. Flickering light spills from the entrance, and elongated shadows of dancing dragons scamper across the wall. A wonderful sight greets you. Dragons of every imaginable color and shape run around with decorations in hand. A huge hearth dominates half of the cave, and a merry fire burns within. Streamers hang from every possible surface. All of this pales in comparison next to one thing. Right in the center of the room is a towering green mass of needles, ornaments, and bark. A Christmas tree!

Christmas is as good as religion for you. Your entire life was spent here in these caves, learning stories and songs from the ancient Holidays. Their lives revolve around festivities, and so does yours. Winter here is a spectacular event, filled with snowball fights and blizzards and fun. December is a celebration, filled with singing and story-telling and giant platters of food. But the one thing everyone looks forward to the most is Christmas, when Santa comes to visit.

"O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!

Thy candles shine so brightly!

O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!

Thy candles shine so brightly!

From base to summit, gay and bright,

There's only splendor for the sight.

O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!

The eager and clamorous singing of hundreds of dragons comes to a close when a throat is cleared. An ancient Winter Magi steps out from the shadows, his hand to his mouth. "Excuse me." His eyes twinkle, and he spreads his wings. "I know how excited you all must be. This year, the food is more plentiful. The air is sweeter and warmer, and the fun more enjoyable. A change has come over the  land. It is waking up." Someone in front of you cheers. A few more hatchlings join in, until the Magi motions for silence. He smiled merrily, and spoke. "I do not wish to keep you. Leonardo tells me he has something special planned for tonight. After the feast, we will gather in the Hall and hear his newest story. Then, Santa's dearest helpers will distribute the presents!" Another cheer broke out. The Winter Magi shakes his head knowingly. With a dramatic sweep of his limbs, he releases the crowd. "Let the feast begin!"

As hatchlings and adult dragons alike flocked to the their seats, Leonardo look a step back and basked in the ambiance. The sweet smell off fruitcake tickled his nose. The hardy scent of beef stew was wafted towards him, causing his tummy to growl in delight. He looked to his left and saw a handful of adorable baby dragons running around and chasing after one another, full of Christmas spirit. Leo wouldn't normally have a problem with that, except for the fact that one of then was tripped and ended up breaking a vase that held one of Leonardo's specially frozen roses.

"What on Santa's blessed white Earth do you think you're doing?!". That's it. He snapped. "Do you realize how important your actions are, and what happens when you misbehave? When I was a young, handsome hatchling, we used to always listen to our elders. Would you like to know what happened when we disobeyed them?". The young dragon shook it's head in tears. It looked to it's parents sitting in their seats, but they just looked away. They knew better than to interrupt Leonardo while scolding a child. "We were locked in the dungeon and forced to eat our talons! I finally regrew mine when I was 703! Do you now realize the error of your ways?!" He screeched. The baby whimpered, then let out a loud cry. The pitch was so high it left a ringing sound in Leonardo's ears. Leo walked over to where the sweets were kept, grabbed one, walked back, then stuffed it in the dragons mouth. "Now get along now. Enjoy your Christmas!" He yelled with cheer.

Mitsuki snapped out of her trances at Kiran's nudge. She blinked, and looked at him curiously. "What happened? Did I miss anything?" She queried. A few dragons threw her strange looks. She'd been labeled as "not being right in the head" and "queer", because of her habit of daydreaming at random intervals. But she didn't care what the others though of her. As long as she had her brother, she was perfectly happ--

"Of course you did!" Kiran snapped, cutting into her thoughts. "You totally and completely missed the elder's speech!"

"'Totally' and 'completely' mean the same things, brother," Mitsuki replied pleasantly, starting to drift off again. "And anyways," she added. "It's not like we haven't heard his little speech before."

"Whatever! Let's just get some food," Kiran huffed. He tensed as Leonardo started scolding a hatchling, muttering under his breath, "It's only a vase! Would he just calm down? He really shouldn't speak that way towards the little ones..."

Mitsuki turned her head to look at the gold Shimmer-Scale, her eyes a little glazed over. "Hm? Did you say something?"

Kiran shook his head. "Just enjoy the feast. It was nothing."

Iceburn heard a song echoing across the icy landscape. She had heard this song many times before, she hated it. "Maybe we should go eat?" She suggested with one head.

"No, no one would have us." She replied with the other.

She was used to being alone, she had always cared for herself. Like many others her parents had left her egg in a deep cave to keep her warm, at least she assumed that was why. From the moment she had hatched she had been taking care of herself, she didn't intend to change that now, no matter how hungry she was. And she certainly didn't want to receive help from a bunch of religious fanatics. She continued trekking through the cold.

"Maybe we shouldn't stay so close to them next year?"

"Shut it."

She was cold.... so very cold. Evie shivered as she felt a cold draft hit her. She covered herself with her wings as her teeth chattered. It was freezing out here, but there was nothing Evie could do about that. She had lived out in this horrible and cold world for centuries. Her guardian had died decades ago, leaving her alone to face this unforgiving planet. A low and familiar growl appeared. Evie spread her wings out and looked down at her stomach. Her ribs were visible, and her stomach was pitifully small. Evie sniffed and looked up, shaking uncontrollably. She felt her bad eye drift downwards and shook as yet another cold draft hit her. Why must the world be so cruel to such an innocent soul?

Freya fluttered her wings excitedly as she rushed to and fro, decorating the tree. She looked very festive; around her neck was a string of bright blue tinsel, and she wore a tiny holly wreath on her head. In her mouth she had several bright ornaments. It was mostly hatchlings decorating the tree, but Freya couldn't see why she couldn't decorate too! Besides, someone needed to get the top of the tree! She bounced up to the enormous fir, singing softly to herself. "Silent night, holy night..." She carefully spread her wings and floated up to the top of the tree, not daring to beat her wings to hard because of the wind she would create. There. Perfect. She settled back to the ground and gave a satisfied hum. Her stomach rumbled and she decided to go find something to eat. But first, she had something to do! She bounced up to Absalom, blue eyes sparkling happily. "Hi Absalom, the feast is great! And your welcoming speech was very nice as well. But what was that you said about how it's getting warmer?"

Absalom raised an eyeridge, but smiled readily, amused by this boisterous dragon. "Hello to you, too, Freya. I'm glad you enjoyed the food." He shifted in his stone seat. "The weather above the caves is getting warmer. You know of the surface, correct? I believe Sylvi took a school trip up when you were a hatchling." He picked up a mug and took a swig. He grunted, relishing the cider. Smacking his lips, he continued. "The glaciers are receding. The age of ice has passed for good, we hope. Trees and grass are growing. Animals have ventured from their dens. The dragons we sent out before are finally able to thrive." His orange eyes darkened. "No longer will he have to hide in these caves like rats." He shook his ancient head, regretting his last words. The emotion was beginning to show in his voice, and he didn't want to alarm the young Speckle-throat.

---

Bwriadoll hissed. She loved Christmas, to be sure, but the caretakers were starting to sound like incredibly old fogeys. Their ancient mannerisms grated on her nerves. Pushing her plate away, she stood up from the stone bench abruptly. A young  Yulebuck at her side cleared his throat questioningly, and lay a hoof on her arm. Abruptly, she explained. "I need to get outside. There's too much cheer in the air down here." She turned away from the festivities and walked into an empty tunnel. Satisfied that she was out of sight, she ran a few paces and took off.

The copper veered crazily though the narrow tunnels. She knew well enough that it was dangerous fly like this, but she was in a hurry. Nervously, she checked the bag slug over her neck.

Good. Everything's still there.

The tunnel grew smaller, and the air colder. She burst out with a shower of snow into the cool night atmosphere.

That air feels much better. I needed this.

Her leathery brown wings curved around the frosty air, and she shot forward. After flying a few miles over the dark forest she stopped, kept aloft by giant wingbeats.

Her muzzle rooted around in her bag before pulling out a torn letter.

Now, what did that report say? Something about a solitary Turpentine? This better not be one of Leo's wild ghost chases. Especially on Christmas night.

As Doll read the notice, her eyes widened.

"This is serious. I'd better hurry, then. She might not last through this storm."

"Kyuuu! Kyuuu!" Her voice rang out throughout the cave. Suddenly, golden bells appeared and rang. Several small little bipedal creatures also appeared wearing white and bearing feathered wings all sang the verse in Kyu's voice. Kyu herself appeared in her adult form and circled the cave's ceiling as the cave ceiling appeared to become a bright blue sky with the sun brilliantly shining down upon them.

"Joy to the world, the Lord is come!

Let earth receive her King;

Let every heart prepare Him room,

And Heaven and nature sing,

And Heaven and nature sing,

And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing!"

As they finished the last line of the song the golden bells ringing faded away as did the little creatures singing the song in Kyu's voice. Finally Kyu landed in front of the Christmas tree and the bright blue sky and sunlight faded to reveal the cave back to normal. As if flaunting herself for a job well done she spread her wings wide and then put them at her side. Although she was best at making snow sculptures, she could also make toys for the other hatchlings. Though they paled in comparison to the toys that Santa made, but hers was still decent enough to keep the hatchlings entertained. She brought a sack of toys seemingly from nowhere before her. "Toys for everyone~!"

"Yay toys!" The ultraviolet pranced up to the Caretaker in joy. There was a line for the toys already and this hatchling along with the others in line were really excited to get his toy. He just loved Christmas, but he also wondered what laid outside of the cavern walls. It couldn't be that bad, he's already seen the worst! It must be wonderful and like all the various and beautiful things that Kyu shows them at Christmas every year. As the line moved at a painfully slow pace he began to ponder about another thing. "I wonder how Kyu can do all these awesome things. Maybe its because she gets to venture outside a lot and because she's an old fogey. Whatever fogey means."

Sylvi gazed at the elaborate festivities with a soft smile, but she didn't join in. Instead, she laid back in her stone seat at the edge of the large cavern, with the ornaments on the great Christmas tree twinkling down in her. This is what Christmas means, she thought with a content sigh, watching Kyu's line for toys rapidly getting shorter and shorter. Everyone is happy and cheerful, as they should be.

"O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!

Sylvi sang the last verse of the Christmas carol under her breath softly, closing her eyes as the merry tunes danced in her ears. Her startling scarlet eyes flicked open again when she heard her name, and she noticed Absalom talking to a young Specklethroat a few seats away. "Oh, yes, I remember that school trip!" she broke in after the Wnter Magi had finished speaking, seemingly oblivious to his dark words. "It's true, the glaciers are receding. The animals are coming out, and there are so many plants. Think of how useful they will be! For food, healing..." She stopped herself from rambling with a tiny shake of her head, but continued to smile brightly.

She couldn't do it anymore. Evie collapsed onto the ground and felt her chest heave. She had walked for miles, but she couldn't walk any longer. She was starving, parched, beaten up, and out of energy. Evie's various wounds had been collected over the time of her trying to find a meal. Most of them were from brambles, rocks, and tree limbs, but some of them were claw and bite marks from people who did not enjoy her company. All of the wounds covered with frost now, and they were not very visible. Evie felt her throat surge and she coughed madly. Blood spattered the white snow, making it a shiny red. No vomit or saliva had came from Evie's coughs. She was too dehydrated to even produce spit. Heh, such a funny thing. She was in a storm, surrounded by snow, but she wasn't even hydrated enough to produce spit. Evie would laugh, but it hurt to open her mouth and her lungs felt oily. Maybe she should just give up. She could just lie down and let the snow cover over her; let it brush away her existence. A sheet of snow covering over her body, erasing her completely. It would be alright, no one cared about her and she didn't have anyone to care about. Her death would mean nothing to the world. Maybe... this was the right thing to do. I had a good run. It was fun while it lasted, but now my time is up. Slowly, Evie lowered her head and laid it against the soft snow. She was so weak and her bones shown so well, that one might even think she was a skeleton. Evie looked up at the sky and then let her eye lids close softly. She felt nothing, absolutely nothing. Doll swore under her breath She couldn't see anything in this weather. Her wings were freezing, and every breath pierced her lungs. Leathery wings dipped, and she headed towards the snowy ground. She landed awkwardly, fumbling in the deep snow. The atmosphere was even worse down near the ground. Whirlwinds of snow whipped up by the wind skidded across the ground. The grainy snow stung her eyes, detracting further from the visibility. "Damnit, Absalom. I know you wanted a blizzard, but this is a bad one."

The copper's neck contracted, and she spat out a firey, gaseous missle. It shot forwards into the darkness, melting the snow as it passed. The red glow illuminated the area for a split second before the darkness closed in. Doll spat on the snow. "Disgusting. Now all I can taste is sulfur." Sighing, she reached in her bag. She pulled out a paper-covered stick, and lit the end with a puff of flame. She held the flare out with a claw. She flapped her wings and hovered a few feet off the ground. The flare lit up the area for a ways around her, but she could still barely make out the ground below her.

It's probably best if I fly. I'll see more that way.

It wasn't that she didn't want to be found, it was the fact that she couldn't move anything. But that didn't matter to Evie. She just wanted her suffering to end. As the feast was coming to an end, Leonardo walked over to the stage that was built for story telling. He looked over to Kyu as she distributed presents to some of the hatchlings. He frowned slightly: Santa was supposed to be the one handing out presents, not Kyu. He quickly brushed it off though and cleared his throat. "Attention everyone! It is that wonder time of year again. Once everyone is done their meals, I invite you all to join me as I tell a wonderful, and NEW story this year".Leo heard cheers coming from across the hall, and he smiled. It truly warmed his heart to know that people still enjoy his stories. It was probably one of the few reason for him getting up in the morning.

Bwriadol's sharp eyes scanned the ground. The red glow of the flare was fading, but the light still picked out the drifts in the snow. The copper dragon pursed her lips.

This is useless. I haven't found anything but snow, ice, and more snow.

She landed painfully on her stiff, cold legs. Grabbing the flare from her mouth, she reached down to snuff out the flame in the snow. Something stopped her. Up above, just a few yards away, was a.. snowbank?

No, it couldn't be. this area is barren. Nothing around here could make a drift THAT big.

She hopped forward a few feet, cocking her head to get a better look at the strange mound.

Is it what I think... ?

She brushed off a layer of snow with her wing. Underneath was a yellw-and-gray scaley hide.

The Turpentine! It's been lying here for a long time, it seems.

Carefully, she rolled the body over. A few puffs of air escaped it's open maw.

Oh, thank Nicholas. It's alive! If I had time, I'd make a fire, but this poor fellow seems pretty far gone.

Doll pumped her wings, scattering the remaining snow. She slipped off the bag around her neck, and pulled out a thick blanket. She spread it on the ground before rolling up the Turpentine. She jumped in the air, grabbed the corners of the blanket, and rose heavily.

For once, I'm glad of my size. If I was any smaller we would BOTH freeze out here.

Absalom hummed a tune to himself as he cleared away a stack of plates. He handed the load off to a balloon hatchling, who floated away towards the kitchens. The ancient dragon smiled to a newly hatched Skywing after rescuing a toy train from it's jaws. "Toys are for playing. Food is for eating." He picked up a candy from the table and popped it into the baby's mouth. "There." He shooed it away, watching as it slithered towards where the hatchlings had gathered. They were crowded around the tree, anxious to hear Leonardo's newest story. "I hope it isn't a wreck like last year... " The holiday muttered.

Kyu had given out the last toy when she heard that Leo had announced that he was going to tell a story. When she had seen the last hatchling off she shot a dirty glare at Leo then loudly snorted in contempt as if she wanted him to hear her. Before anything of consequence could happen, she took the empty sack and went behind the tree. If one had followed her or were on the other side of the tree they would be surprised! It would have seemed that she suddenly dissolved into many sparkly sea green particles and disappeared into thin air...

...When in reality she had just shrunk to roughly twice the size of an adult pgymy dragon- she had turned into her hatchling form and promptly hid herself and the sack in the tree. In comparison to her adult form, she was pitifully small. On the bright side however, it allowed her to feel like a hatchling again and most importantly go places she normally wouldn't be able to. She wondered if she had missed anything she was supposed to do. Showering the dragons with her illusions..? Check. Giving snow sculptures to all the neighbors in the area including outside..? She had a flash back of a few years ago about a smashed snow sculpture and some garbled words of someone yelling at her. Err... Check. Yes... Give out her selflessly made presents to the hatchlings..? Check. This was in fact one of the few times in a year she would actually do her job AND enjoy it. Its always worth it to see the faces of wonder when others see her illusions and the joy on the hatchlings' faces when they see the toys she had made. She kinda envied Santa a bit even. What kind of faces would those hatchlings -and even the adults!- make when they receive those sleek and perfect toys? Eh, she does what she can because she can.

"I guess that just really leaves one more thing left!" She pranced around a bit, doing little dances that went largely unnoticed. She pranced and she danced until she was far away from the festivities. Before taking a final step to the outside, she turned her head back towards the cheers of the other dragons. All ages were anticipating his story, even Absalom was. She sighed, shook her head and said to herself, "What ever happened to the actual stories I liked, huh, Leo?" By now the cold from the outside had chilled her body, just the way she liked it. Shaking her body excitedly a wide grin spread over her face. "Kyuuuu-yuuunn!" With a flick of her tail she jumped headfirst into the snow, practically burying herself in it. She tunneled through the soft, fluffy snow and even occasionally shot up to the surface, did a complicated twirl and then dove back in. To her, piles of snow was like a water hatchling swimming in his lake.

As Bwriadol flew, her aching talons froze up in the cold. "Oh, censorkip.gif!" She cursed as one of the corners of the blanket rolled out of her grasp. The body of the turpentine hurtled towards the ground. The drop was only few hundred feet, but the landing could kill the smaller dragon. The frozen turpentine landed unharmed on Doll's expansive chest, and slid off into the snow. The copper groaned and rolled on to her stomach. Her tail hurt like hades, and she could barely move it. She stood up shakily, picking up the blanket from where it had tumbled into the snow. She wrapped it around her companion, slung them over her back, and trudged through the snow.

"I- I have t-tt-to get-tt back... " she whispered, her jaw chattering. She was freezing, exhausted, and about to drop. She didn't know how much longer she could force herself to go.

The Specklethroat squealed in excitement. The ice age is finally ending! It's lasted forever! I think only the oldest of the caretakers remember what it was like before. She thought about what Absalom and Sylvi had said.  Animals? And plants? She wanted to see this. She had heard the Caretakers talk all about birds and deer and fish and enormous trees everywhere. To be fair, she had seen trees underground, but she couldn't possibly start to imagine a forest. Trees growing everywhere, in all shapes and sizes, dense and green... Yes. She wanted to go outside. "Can I go outside?" she asked, not realizing that Absalom and Silvi had both already left. "Huh." she grumbled, disappointed. She would have to wait. Head drooping, she sat, sadly imagining the wonderful outdoors and how she couldn't go see it. She was distracted by the familiar green and yellow shape of Shee, her Teimarr friend. "Oh, hey Shee! she exclaimed, happily. "You wouldn't believe what Absalom just told me..." She launched herself into a full description of the wonderful outdoors, her disappointment forgotten.

Saro settled into an unoccupied space of the hall, golden ribbon tied into a large, poofy bow around his neck in celebration of the season. A couple of small silver bells he'd picked up along the years also hung from the bow, and although they were a bit mismatched, they were festive nonetheless. As the group gathered for the story, his eyes softened as he looked down on all the little hatchlings scampering about. He could almost imagine them bristling with excitement! He remembered his first holiday in the caves... it had made his world to see all the festivity and cheer. He'd come back into this hall once more, as he had done every year, to experience that wonder again. He'd heard these stories, these songs, for a good hundred years now, probably, but that didn't make them any less special to him. With a content sigh, he laid down, propping himself up a bit on his wings to listen to the story being told.

A new story, a new beacon of light in the dark. He briefly wondered what it would be.
