Posted July 4, 2015 I have a question, on looking through dragon types, i came across this: its about Faeries, just wondering, i know there aren't any on dragcave yet, but when was it every suggested there would be? Also, the wiki is amazing, i use it so much!! Share this post Link to post
Posted July 21, 2015 (edited) I think the rarity guide needs editing. Like....are Xenowyrms really uncommon? I understand they're still new but it's odd to see them in the same category as the Nebula and Swallowtail. Or maybe the ratios are just really messed up... Posted July 21, 2015 It does need editing (and it says so at the top: "Under Construction"). For example, some breeds are still missing, like Black Tea. Share this post Link to post

Also, the wiki is amazing, i use it so much!! The thing with Wikies, is that everyone can edit existing info or add new ones. Fairy dragons hasn't been aproved yet, we're not even sure if they're going to make it to the actual Cave at some point, but that was probably created by someone that wanted them in there too much, so skipped everything and went on creating a page for them. Posted July 30, 2015 Is there a way to make the a pages lag less? I think it's just due to the fact there are so many pictures on one page but my computer glitches up anytime I even try to look at the 'all dragons' or and individual dragon breed info page. My computer is perfectly able to run two downloaded pc games at once so it's not my ram or hard drive that is the problem. Not sure if I am the only one with this problem or if there is anything that can be done but I literally had to wipe my history just now because opening the new release page made my whole firefox browser stop responding from the lag/load. Posted July 30, 2015 Are you using any adblockers or scriptblockers? If not, it might be a good idea to use some - wikia is using way too many third-party scripting. Share this post Link to post
Posted September 11, 2015 (edited) Omg, I'm so sorry that so many of you have been left hanging in this thread. The other admins have control over the wiki's forum account and have been managing this thread so far, I thought they were still managing it. I'll do my best now to answer any questions that have been left hanging as well as keep an eye on this thread Again, don't forget that most of the time, any errors you spot on a page can be changed by you (even if you don't have an account on the wiki). Likewise, if it's something you can't do, you can leave a message on my wiki wall (even if you don't have an account again) or just PM on the forums- I don't bite ---- Hi all, On the front page, under Dragons --> Subtypes there is both "DC Drake" and "Drake". The content for the "Drake" page has been deleted, but the link in the menu remains. I can't do the edit myself because the front page is protected (which is fair enough) Could someone with more permissions than me have a look please? Thanks! Fixed! The habitat of Sunrise/Sunset dragons on wiki says: Alpine, Coast, Desert However in the encyclopedia it is: Alpine Is it a bug? Will investigate this issue now, considering the Autumn dragon has a glitch regarding its location in the encyclopedia entry. Will update when I have a clearer answer! Edit: At this stage, it seems like it was an error on behalf of a user and an admin who added those extra biomes to the page(s). I am yet to find a Sunrise or Sunset dragon with a biome either than "Cave" or "Alpine", and upon discussing it with the spriter LadyLyzar, she doesn't recall these dragons have multiple biomes (although did say she was unsure herself). I will try talk to the users who added this info to see if it really was an error or perhaps the biomes got changed at some point, but for now all pages that show these dragons should show that they come from the Alpine biome only now Thanks so much for bringing this up! We rely on the community to find and correct errors like these and help maintain the wiki's level of accuracy (and trustworthyness as an information source). I have a question, on looking through dragon types, i came across this: its about Faeries, just wondering, i know there aren't any on dragcave yet, but when was it every suggested there would be? Also, the wiki is amazing, i use it so much!! Also @Ylvanne's post: Please don't assume things in such a negative manner; the wiki does it's best to uphold a high editing standard That category is there because there are a lot of dragons in the Dragon Request board that fall under this sub-type, as well as various petitions on the forum to get Faeries into the cave. We've simply just prepared this page in advanced for the day they do arrive, as when a new sub-type of dragon is released in-cave it is statistically more likely to be a Faerie. We did this with Wyrms as well, under the same ideas, and this paid off during the Xenowyrm release It's not about hinting that we know something you guys don't, we just like to prepare ahead of time as release days are always stressful on the wiki I think the rarity guide needs editing. Like....are Xenowyrms really uncommon? I understand they're still new but it's odd to see them in the same category as the Nebula and Swallowtail. Or maybe the ratios are just really messed up... As Ruby Eyes said, the page is "under construction" and I have big changes in store for it. Sadly it's just being held back as we're working on more important projects at the moment, namely getting encyclopedia information into dragon articles. I try and maintain it to be accurate at the moment, even if it's not pretty to look at right now. What you would have seen regarding the Xenowyrms is that "uncommon" was their initial release rarity status. This initial status is very much subject to change as during the initial release period (and the weeks that follow it), the cave is still trying to balance out the breed ratios. Once they settle, we check back again and make any adjustments if necessary. Hence why you'll find the Xenowyrm in the "Rare" section of that page now (I changed that quite a while back) Is there a way to make the a pages lag less? I think it's just due to the fact there are so many pictures on one page but my computer glitches up anytime I even try to look at the 'all dragons' or and individual dragon breed info page. My computer is perfectly able to run two downloaded pc games at once so it's not my ram or hard drive that is the problem. Not sure if I am the only one with this problem or if there is anything that can be done but I literally had to wipe my history just now because opening the new release page made my whole firefox browser stop responding from the lag/load. Some pages on the wiki do that yes, because they're very large. The only one I can see having big problems with is the Dragon Types article. I'm aware of this issue and coming up with some solutions that will be implemented at a later stage. At this stage though, I would recommend Ruby Eye's suggestions as they do help a lot. Also, if you experience lag when editing big pages, try edit in just the section you need to rather than editing the whole article (go to the section you want to work on and select Edit rather than selecting Edit right at the top of the page). Posted November 14, 2015 (edited) I've been trying to find breeds with a specific "Elemental Affinity" recently for lineage planning purposes, and I kinda hoped I could just click a link on the wiki that would lead me to the category with, say, "Elemental Affinity: Light" but apparently that's not a thing yet. Thus, I find myself checking all 157 pages in the Encyclopedia. Would you think it would be a good idea to add "Elemental Affinity" categories similar to the "Habitat" links to the dragons? apparently I cannot type "apparently" anymore .. You'll find the category does exist but is empty at the moment We've made all new templates for the encyclopedia information as well as new infoboxes to go on dragon pages. I'm in the process of updating them now (about half way) but it will take some time considering how many dragons and creatures DC has Sorry for the delay! Share this post Link to post
Posted November 22, 2015 I was thinking earlier today that I'd like to make a suggestion (assuming it's not already been made and is in the works, of course!), but then I forgot what it was...then I looked back at the Wiki page and saw I was on the Astrapi Xeno page and remembered that I would like a pronunciation key or guide of some sort! I'm not even going to tell you how I pronounce that particular dragons name, because there are children on this board. Share this post Link to post

A valid suggestion but hard to do as the the spriters and TJ don't always provide the pronunciation when a dragon is released ^__^ The ones that do have that information given to us can be found in the "Additional Information" section of a dragon's article, in the form of the artist being quoted (for example, see Magi Dragon). This would actually be a really good suggestion to make as something to be added to the Dragon Encyclopedia! Share this post Link to post

Just as a matter of interest, that one I say Ass-trappy. Short A, stress on the trap. But your concern about the word won't hold up, whichever way you say it, as BOTH pronunciations are used for the human posterior, depending where you are in the world - and it is hardly an obscenity ! The only way this could actually work in a foolproof way would be to use the IPA, and very few people understand it. Edited November 24, 2015 by fuzzbucket Share this post Link to post
Posted November 24, 2015 Somewhere along the line Wikia made it so that on certain wikis, ones that are more children focused -- how they determined that I'm not really sure -- you have to have an account to actually be able to edit. It's the same case for the DC wiki, you need an account to actually be able to edit now. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 24, 2015 Just as a matter of interest, that one I say Ass-trappy. Short A, stress on the trap. And I "pronounce" it quite differently -- something like uh-straw-pee (oops, is that another no-no? ). But I wonder how much it really matters. I really have no one to actually speak with about my dragons, so the only reference I ever make to them to others is in print. I guess for those with family or friends who play with them it may be important, but to me it is not. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 26, 2015 Let's stay on-topic please with regards to this being a thread about the wiki rather than pronunciation discussions Somewhere along the line Wikia made it so that on certain wikis, ones that are more children focused -- how they determined that I'm not really sure -- you have to have an account to actually be able to edit. It's the same case for the DC wiki, you need an account to actually be able to edit now. This is very strange, because I know the feature you're talking about and I've seen it as an optional feature on the admin panel of newer wikis. However, I can't find it as an option to turn on and off on our wiki. I wouldn't think that it has something to do with being a site geared to younger audiences, as Wikia never interferes in that sense, it may just be because we're an older site and the feature hasn't reached our admin panels yet. I'll investigate this issue further and let you know what happens- thanks for letting us know! Share this post Link to post
Posted November 27, 2015 (edited) Let's stay on-topic please with regards to this being a thread about the wiki rather than pronunciation discussions Please direct any further discussion regarding pronunciation here (and thanks to bluesonic1 for suggesting it needed it's own thread). This way we can keep the conversation going (and please, feel free to add your comments from this thread into that one!) without taking this one off-topic. Something I'd like to see on the Wiki page is on the "Which Egg Is Which?" page. Since rarity type is listed, and seems to stay pretty consistent as far as "rare" and "uncommon", perhaps in the contents navigation area (where there are in-page links to Year-Round, Holidays, Leetle Trees and Discontinued) maybe there could be an additional link or two for "Rare" and "Uncommon"? Or even just one for "Rare" that would point straight to Metallics and Prize Dragons...or it could even link to the Rarity Index. WEiW is the page I primarily use, and I know about the rarity index, but I didn't even know it was there until I accidentally stumbled upon it one day a few weeks ago! I'm not sure how it is now because I haven't edited in quite some time due to health and school so I'm not solid on this information but it was originally do to suspected age range of the wiki. Certain wikis eventually had it that you need an account to edit because the wiki might have a wide age range. Wikis with an older age range weren't this way. I was previously an admin on DC wiki and I used Wikia quite often. I can ask a friend I have about this, he's a member of Wikia's VSTF so I can try and get updated information on this. The rarity index is very much NOT up-to-date anyway so there's currently no reason to add more links to it. For most breeds, you can estimate their uncommonness according to their release date - the newer, the more prolific they are. Coppers, Pyralspites and Xenos are obviously an exception due to their multi-version - everyone wants to collect and breed 3 times or 6 times as many from those as they would with single-version breeds. WEiW is the page I primarily use, and I know about the rarity index, but I didn't even know it was there until I accidentally stumbled upon it one day a few weeks ago! Ruby Eyes summed up pretty well why that's not on the Which Egg is Which page. We do have it for the Dragon Types pages however, because that page is dedicated to be as comprehensive as possible. But the egg page is literally just to list what egg has what description to help with hunting & make it faster to check between the cave and the egg's match-up on the wiki. That said, those categories are very easy to access via the navigation bar near the top of the page (the brown bar). Hover over "Dragons" and then down to "Rarity Index" and you get a link out to all 3 categories Update on the issue of anons not being able to edit: yes, Wikia has gone around and disabled anon editing on sites they think are aimed at audiences younger than 13 years old. This came around due to changes in US laws regarding COPPA, so they had no choice but to force the changes on users, unless the wiki can prove that their site is not aimed for that age bracket. Considering DC has a clause to prevent user under 13 years from registering, I'll be looking at contacting Wikia to try and get the restriction lifted from the wiki. Edit: After explaining the situation, Wikia has opened up anon editing on the wiki again Edited December 3, 2015 by bluesonic1 Share this post Link to post
Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) Edit: After explaining the situation, Wikia has opened up anon editing on the wiki again Following on this, since the 5 days that anons have been able to edit on the wiki, the wiki has received 6 different accounts of vandalism. This calls into question whether anon editing is appropriate for our wiki or not, and the community is urged to discuss whether this feature should remain. If you already a user of the wiki, please use this thread to discuss whether anon editing should remain, otherwise discussion is welcome on this thread. Edit: Since making this thread, we've had 1 new anon editor, with 1 extra case of vandalism. I would also like to take this opportunity to add that all dragon habitats should be accurate now, and I apologise for the large errors on behalf of the admin team. I'd like to use this event to highlight to users the higher editing standards the wiki now holds; be prepared to show evidence for edits you make or even better, link it in yourself, to show the information you are adding is valid, else face having it removed by staff. If you've had an edit undone and don't understand why, or have the evidence to prove otherwise, please don't hesitate in contacting any of us to rectify the situation ( ~ Bluesonic1) Edited December 8, 2015 by DragCave Wiki Share this post Link to post
