Introduction

 

The cool night air rustled among the tall trees, which stood silhouetted against the pale moon as if the ground were reaching out with dark claws to snatch the shining stars. Suddenly, the gentle wind became a harsh gust of frosty air, and it blew dark clouds across the moon, causing somber shadows to obscure the earth. Three cats shivered as they crouched concealed in the undergrowth, their eyes gleaming with the waning light of the stars. Finally, the three of them stood at once and padded hesitantly out of the shadows into a small clearing, the wind brushing their fur and the mist rolling slowly around them. They dipped their heads to each other politely, but there was no mistaking a hint of suspicion - and maybe even a glint of hostility. One of the cats - a broad-shouldered brown tom - raised his head and spoke in a grave voice. "I, Oak, believe that my cats have the right to rule the forest. They are clever yet strong, and have every right intention to lead." A muscular smoky gray tom leapt to his paws, his fur bristling and his amber eyes blazing. "I disagree! I, Mountain, am the leader of MountainClan. I insist that my cats will be able to lead the forest to a great future. They are powerfully built, and will always have the advantage in a battle." Oak's lips curled into a malicious snarl and he unsheathed his claws in a threatening stance. In return to the vicious gesture, Mountain bared his sharp teeth and growled deep in his chest, raking the air with his paw. Suddenly, the third cat, a slender silver she-cat, yowled bitterly. "How dare you challenge StarClan's orders! We came here to make an agreement, not to fight." The she-cat's eyes were dull with fury and disappointment, but her voice was loud and clear. "StarClan, we cannot reach an agreement! We need your assistance!" Oak and Mountain faced each other furiously, but - fortunately - they both settled down to listen to StarClan's wise words. Not one, but many voices spoke in unison, filling the restless air with grave words. "Three clans will be created; MountainClan, StreamClan, and OakClan. They will each have their own territories, hunting and patroling within their borders." Mountain opened his mouth to protest, but the cats of Starclan weren't finished. "Someday, they shall meet, and the three of you must protect them from sending them into a world of chaos!" The voice was gradually fading, and the three cats leaned in with pricked ears, straining to hear. "But beware. Beware the creatures of cunning and stealth, terror and death. Beware the foxes..."

 

Three clans roam a huge, magnificent forest, not yet aware of each other's existence, just as StarClan has promised. They hunt and patrol their borders, following the Warrior Code and devoting their life to protecting their clan. Each clan lives in a different part of the forest, and they each specialize in different skills. The three clans are MountainClan, StreamClan, and OakClan, all named after the lush territories that they live in, and their great founders, who are in the paws of StarClan now. But the cats can't avoid each other forever. When they cross each other's path, will there ever be a way to find peace, a solution to the turmoil that has been unleashed? Or will arguments and battles break out, sending the clans into a world of darkness and shadows?

 

In the uncertain, quarreling cats' midst, there is a band of bloodthirsty foxes, who go by the name of the "Excelsiors", that would love to sink their teeth into a cat's throat. The foxes are made up of spies, trackers, and assassins that are assigned by their ruler to hunt down and kill individual cats. They delight in stirring up confusion and terrifying battles among the clans, watching the cats shed their blood over nothing.

 

You are a warrior in one of these three clans, dedicating your life to protecting your clan mates. Can you share territories with the other clans, while keeping the cruel foxes at bay? Or will their forever be anger and bloodshed?

Territory: At the base of a tall, rocky mountain. Their camp is a well hidden cluster of boulders. This is what it would look like.

Prey:They can hunt up on the mountain, or they can find some small prey around their camp. In the mountains, they can hunt falcons, mountain goats, and hares. Around their camp, they can find small birds, squirrels, and rabbits.

Talents: Muscular and Broad-shouldered. They can easily leap among sharp, rocky mountain ledges. This is what helps them hunt falcons and mountain goats.

Territory: The area they live in is laced with fresh streams, and their camp is between two of them, so the only way you can get into their camp is by wading, or swimming when the streams flood. This is what is would look like.

Prey: They can use streams to hunt for fish, water voles, and water birds. They only hunt on land when it's leaf-bare, when the streams are frozen. There, they can find mice, rabbits, and voles.

Talents: Sleek and agile. They can swim very well, each of them have the talent. They can also run very fast, due to their agility. They can use their good reflexes when they fish.

Territory: Your average forest. It consists mainly of oak trees (of course :3). It is lush, and holds many good resources, and some dangers. Their camp is hidden well behind a wall of thickets. Once you go through the opening, there is a clearing large enough for many cats. This is what it would look like.

Prey: They can hunt well in their dense forests. The prey they find is small birds, mice, voles, and the occasional rabbit.

Talents: Long-legged and clever. They can move quietly through the forest and their legs help them move quickly among the undergrowth. They are smart, which keeps them well-fed.They are also excellent tree-climbers.

Excelsiors:

 

Territory: The Excelsior foxes sometimes slink around the clan territories and dig makeshift dens here and there, but they do have a hidden lair on the outer boundaries of the clans. The area that they live in is a dense forest of pine trees, where fog always seems to hang, concealing them from the eyes of intruders and stifling their strong fox-scent. This is what it would look like.

Prey: The Excelsiors eat anything they can catch in their pine forest territory. Sometimes, in times when prey is scarce, they will even stoop low enough to eat crowfood and even the cats they have slain!

Talents: The foxes don't have any particular talents, unless you count their abilities to be able to keep themselves hidden and disguised. They mask their scent when they go into cat territory by rolling into something strong-scented and they always cover up their paw prints.

Appearance: Raze is a rare sub-species to the red fox, called a Marlfox. He's a large fox with the typical large paws, thick coat, and broad shoudlers of a red fox. But instead of red fur, his fur is a light black with a silver over-coat. His muzzle ears, and paws are black rather then silver, and the tip of his tail is white. Raze's eyes are a dark brown.

Personality: Raze is a silent kind of killer, and does not speak unless spoken to or if he really needs to say something. He's not afraid to kill, though does not find any pleasure in doing so except if it's an enemy. He sticks to the shadows and side-lines unless in battle, his dark silver fur blending in with the darkness and moonlight and giving him cover to silently sneak up on an enemy, dispatch them, and slink off without a trace. He's good at watching others, even other animals, to pick up techniques to use when fighting of hunting (whether it be prey or a enemy). He's good at reading between the lines and seeing things that others are not saying. To him, the eyes are the windows to the soul and he often times uses them to understand someone. While he's good at being quiet and being cunning, those skills do not relate to being social or allowing others to get to know him. So he's not good at making friends or being part of a large, loud group.

History: Raze was neglected by his family when he was born, they were frightened by his sinister black coat with silvery streaks. He showed little interest in both his fur and his family, and trudged off to the Excelsiors, where he gained enough respect to become the Lead Tracker.

Appearance: Hawkfire is a large, somewhat bulky tom with broad shoulders and powerful legs made more for fighting then running. He's slightly scarred around the face and shoulders, most notably the scar along his cheek. His short fur us a 'ruddy' red with a darker dorsel stripe running from his forehead and down his tail. His eyes are a light hazel.

Personality: Hawkfire is a generally quiet, thoughtful cat who, oddly enough since he's leader, does not like to be center of attention. Rather he likes the company of friends on patrols and hunts, and is more then happy to lie back and talk to his warriors or sometimes apprentices. Even though is is a soft-spoken cat, that does not mean he's weak; rather Hawkfire can take control quickly and rally his clan up to battle with ease and will happily fight along with them. He's a good fighter, and is not afraid to engage an enemy in battle to do what is right. But in down times, when no one is looking, he'll gladly flick his tail around for kits to pounce on.

Appearance: Morningkit has short yet silky fur as white as fresh snow, but it dissolves into a pale tan at her paws. Her tail is striped like a tabby, along with her front legs. The backs of her ears are a dim, dark grey - almost black - and she has black markings just above her eyes and along her nose. Her eyes are a startling sea green that shine like luminous emeralds among her plush white fur.

Personality: Morningkit is a brutally honest she-cat with a gentle voice and an even gentler demenor. She rarely raises her soft voice, but is good at using words to allow someone to understand her emotions rather the shouting or crying. Though she does not always like to, she good at guilt trips and making someone feel small if they deserve it; one of her odd quirks. She is a good listening and is seen often times giving out advice or lending a shoulder to lean on for those who simply listen.

Personality: Despite her old age, Nightsong is a cheeky, lively, sometimes sarcastic she-cat who does not know when to mind her own business and shut up. She can be endearing, and sometimes sweet in her naivety, though it could be annoying to someone who do not see the brightness in life but rather the darkness. She is also very fond of kits, and would gladly spend hours a day playing games with them. She tends not to be a pessimist but is rather an optomist, and is quite vocal in her beliefs. She does have a bit of a temper though and uses both her claws and sharp tongue to attack before she thinks about what she's saying.

Personality: Wolfstar is a firm, yet fair leader to his Clan. With many moons of experience, he's learned how to better lead his Clan through trying times. He tries to make the best out of every situation and though he attempts to listen to the advice of his Clan, once he has made a decision he will not deviate from it.

History: Wolfstar was always ambitious from the time he became an apprentice. He wanted something more for himself than the life of an average warrior, and so he strived to go above and beyond for his Clan in everything he did. Every sundown he went to sleep exhausted, though content with his efforts, which eventually led to his appointment of deputy and later leader.

Appearance: She is actually not an arctic fox, but a rare color of the gray fox. She is not an albino. Her fur is white with a brown tinge, and it can get dirty sometimes. She has honey-brown sanpaku eyes. Her body features are that of a gray fox. The white of her fur doesn't give her away, but it actually does help her a lot, despite what others think.

Personality: Sicarius is always stealthy and silent, seeming to sneak up on other foxes of her pack. She is cold and very serious, and will usually snap at others who are playing. She usually plays too when you can get her to. She is able to open up, but almost never does. She can be ruthless on her prey/target if she is seen.

Personality: Mossshadow is a quirky little she-cat, she has a strange habit talking aloud to herself and sometimes even answers herself back. If you look past all of her....quirks you'll see a very friendly and humorous soul. She is a good friend to have, although she isn't very good at remembering names. She provides a shoulder to cry on and an ear to tell secrets to, it's very likely she won't remember what you told her but I digress. She is quick with a joke, some are quite dumb but if you don't laugh don't worry she'll laugh at her own jokes. She would be a fun mentor, mostly because she acts like a kit or apprentice.

History: Mossshadow was, believe it or not, originally a kittypet house cat. She was much more adventurous than her siblings and when she came across an open window she took a chance and leaped into a new world with no walls. Personality: Oh my, where to start with her. She is very suave and cunning, a lie she tells is very well planed and formulated. She is always thinking, plotting, planning, it would be best to remain on her good side.

History: Satana was born into a very normal group of very normal foxes, her parents were kind and loving, her siblings were sweet, and her extended family was inviting. The only thing that set her apart in those times was her unusual pelt. But that all changed, during a long and harsh winter prey ran out and her happy family began to starve. Weeks, months went by and all that was seen was the steady blanket of white on the ground and the grumble of hungry bellies. It was maddening, so in an act of desperation the parents and elders resorted to cannibalism, starting with the pups. This vicious cycle continued until every last member of the happy family was dead, except for Satana who had hidden herself away and watched. She roamed all over, going from wood to wood, town to town but she was not accepted by any one, she was no longer the sweet thing she used to be. Soon she grew aggressive and attacked any soul she happened to meet. It was townspeople who gave her the name of Satana, the demon, she has long forgotten her birth name.

Morning sunlight filtered in through the branches of Wolfstar's den and onto his long tabby coat, warming him enough to wake him from his dreams. He pulled his head up, emerald eyes blinking sleepily before stretching and sitting up. He took a moment to groom his fur before stepping out into the OakClan camp. The large tabby approached Robinwing, who was still sitting vigil from the previous night, and flicked her gently with his tail tip to get her attention. "You may rest now," he said quietly.

Robinwing nodded her thanks to Wolfstar and walked over to the warriors den, wondering if there would be a nest already made or if she would have to make her own. As she pushed her way in to the den she saw with relief that there was already an empty nest and it was quite near the center of the den, where it was warmest. As she lay down and drifted of into her dreams Robinwing thought contently to herself, "I'm an OakClan warrior!"

 

Badgerclaw

As Badgerclaw stretched and yawned, looking over to where Leopardfire and Springheart were stirring, thouching noses gently with Springheart, he pushed his way out of the den and looked around. The cozy camp was pale in the dawn colors and birds chirped cheerfully, promising good hunting, Badgerclaw wondered if anything could break this surreal peace.

Leopardfire's eyes opened to another day in Mountainclan. The sunlight peered through a crack in the cave and Badgerclaw was awake, looking around. She definitely couldn't wait to hunt for her clan.

Silverwind paced around the Streamclan camp, constantly glancing around. She sat down with an exasperated sigh. Clan life was getting to be boring, even with her role as deputy! Hunt, patrol, eat, sleep; was there anything else she could do? Silverwind sighed once again and padded wearily across the clearing over to Ghostwhisper. "Hey, do you want to go hunting with me?", she asked her tentatively, aware of her quiet personality. "It wouldn't hurt to do something for the benefit of the clan."

 

Dawnpaw - Mountainclan

Dawnpaw raced excitedly over to Badgerclaw, hopping on the tips of her paws. "How was the vigil? Was it tiring? Was it exciting? How was it??" She demanded as she danced around Badgerclaw. "I'm soo jealous! I can't wait until I get my warrior name!" Dawnpaw finally stopped and sat down with a thump, but her tail kept flicking and her ears twitched anxiously as she waited for a response.

 

Raze - Excelsiors

Raze trotted around the Excelsior dens, drinking in the strong scent of the foxes. He stopped for a second, ideas brewing in his treacherous mind. Soon, the cats will be cast away from the forest, leaving it under the rule of the foxes. We will exceed the limits and rise to our ultimate power. Soon. Raze's narrowed eyes flashed in anticipation, and he ran his long tongue around his jaws, revealing his malicious gleaming white fangs.

Badgerclaw turned as Dawnpaw pelted him with questions not giving him time to answer. He waited for her to slow down a bit and then replied, "A vigil can be very tiering but if you have the control of a warrior then you can stay alert and keep the clan safe easily." Badgerclaw padded over to the fresh-kill pile and picked up a mouse. I need to go hunting he thought to himself as he chewed on the stale piece of fresh-kill.

Mousetail walked wearily over to the OakClan warrior den after Wolfstar released him from his vigil. As he pushed is way in he saw his sister already asleep and curled up next to her, wrapping his tail contently across his muzzle, quickly falling asleep.

Springheart felt Badgerclaw's gentle nudge and pulled her self to her feet and gave herself a quick washing. As she padded into the MountainClan camp clearing she spotted Leopardfire telling Dawnpaw that they would be hunting today. She decided a hunting patrol would get her awake and alert so she walked over and stifling a yawn asked "Can I come with you?"

As the were walking through the forest, Springeart replied to Leopardfire with a nod of her head and thought for a moment. Hmmm . . . "The Sky oak will have mice at its roots and squirrels in the branches, why don't we hunt there?" she asked, pointing her nose in the direction of the tree. As soon as she suggested the oak Dawnpawraced off and Springheart, glancing humorously Leopardfire followed, listening to the bluejays chirping, the mice scampering, and the eagles screeching. Dawnpaw - Mountainclan

Dawnpaw nodded solemnly at Badgerclaw as he left to go to the freshkill pile, her jade green eyes wide with wonder. As Leopardfire, her mentor, called for her to go hunting with Springheart, she leaped to her paws and trotted enthusiastically out of the Mountainclan camp. Dawnpaw gazed around in awe at the lusciousness of the leafy trees and the budding flowers and plants. The air buzzed with energy; the birds were singing their shrill song and the bees flitted around the sweet-smelling flowers. She flicked her tail in understanding at Springheart. "Okay, let's go!" Dawnpaw raced to the giant tree, keeping aware of the two warriors behind her. She dropped into a sudden crouch as she spotted a thrush pecking at a worm at the base of the tall Sky Oak. She stepped forward lightly with her haunches rocking, making sure that she was downwind of her prey. Dawnpaw narrowed her eyes in concentration, waiting for the precise moment to strike. With a yowl, she propelled herself into the air and battered the thrush to the forest floor as it attempted to escape. With a quick bite to it's spine, she finished it off. Dawnpaw sat down with her head bowed and murmured a quiet prayer of thanks to Starclan.

At last...Leopardfire and the patrol arrived at Sky Oak. The she-cat licked her lips, anticipating the taste of an unfortunate squirrel. Yes, a squirrel shall be her priority today. Leopardfire's ears pricked as she heard a rustle from a nearby shrub. Like lightning, Leopardfire pounced on the creature, killing it with a bite to the neck. A mouse. It wasn't necessarily a squirrel, but the mouse was good enough to be placed in the fresh-kill pile or given to an elder.

as Badgerclaw reached the training cave he swiftly climbed the wall, hopping from perch to perch, until he reached the top. As he looked down at the mossy floor and rocks surrounding it, he spotted a rock about the same size as a badger and launching himself at it he imagined it coming to life at attacking the camp. Hissing and yowling he landed squarely on the would-be-badger's shoulders and clawed the moss of its back. He then bit the tough moss where the rock/badger's shoulder would be ripping a piece off and quickly leaping away.
