New players have to work their way up to rare things. I think this is true of all games, not just DC.

I would just like to know how that is possible without great catching skills, or being retired in order to have the time to sit in front of the computer all day to try for things in the cave or gifts from very kind people such as yourself.

 

Or raising 20-50 hatchlings for 1 thing while I have very limited space, time and still would like to raise things for myself.

 

It should be feasible. Not easy, so please don't think I expected anything handed to me. I don't.

 

But nothing is really feasible as-is unless you've connections, have been on lists forever or lots of time to hunt in the cave. And that's not fun, imo.

That is as close to multi-scrolling as it can be, unless you allow the people you trade with to hatch your commons in small amounts. But even then, unless you take them as soon as they hatch?

Raising multiple hatchies for a trade is NOT multi-scrolling, nor is it close, nor does it bear even the slightest resemblance to multi-scrolling. Its using common dragons as a currency.

 

Its also an IOU, and because we aren't allowed to advertize IOUs, that effectively limits the number of hatchies someone can directly ask for in their forum post to 21. Instead, they have to ask for "multiple", and say to PM them. I know, I've been on both ends of that.

 

So lets lay off the whole "Its like multi-scrolling!" thing. Cuz its just not.

We also raised commons and things for a trophy (reward: increased scroll space) ^^;;

(In fact, I'd go as far as to say that if DC ever gave rewards for achievements, along the lines of HMs, prizes, whatnot, I would have suggested introducing them by dragon number rather than raffles ^^;; just my opinion though)

For some, raising a big lot of cb common hatchlings is too much to ask. For others, it is a great opportunity. Just like for some people having all or mostly cb is part of the fun, or building even gen dragons, or hoarding oodles of shiny things. Everyone has different things they think make the game fun.

 

The point of this thread is to discuss ways we can come up with to improve the raffle. "Improve" means different things to different people too. There are some good ideas in here. We could debate forever what constitutes a reasonable trade for a dragon and never see eye to eye because it's variable and subjective.

As for your friend: 5 years is a long time to make friends , enemies and form connections in a community. If you dont do this, well, you cant expect people to just throw stuff your way, then. And if (lets say 8 weeks) some mild scroll renting is not worth it, well, then better quit. Because as C4 so nicely put it: everyone we know would grab such deals if they have trouble catching, but want it.

Ok, so....

Give out a shiny Black prize to everyone who got a raffle ticket

- It gives everyone something

- Should greatly reduce the hurt feelings / feeling left out which is caused by the current raffle

 

Change how Prizes breed

- make CB Prizes their own breed, so they produce lots of shinies?

- Adjust prize ratios in general so they produce shinies a lot more often?

- Have CB Prizes breed Shinies at a rate of 50%: half the time Prize, the other half is governed by the mate's ratios?

 

After the discussion, I'm more convinced than ever that simply increasing the number of Prizes isn't the answer.

 

The root cause of the problem is that Tinsels and Shimmers breed poorly and the demand for 2nd gens is astronomical. So get CB Tinsels and CB Shimmers breeding LOTS more shinies, and the market will correct itself.

I really doubt that any positive changes are going to be made given the way of thinking, which is a shame. The multi-clutching and dull CB variant would help make the game fun for everyone.

Uhm, well. If they only take mature hatchlings within a handful of hours or less of growing up? Is that not?

 

And dedicating more than half my scroll space (9 spots) for another person in a game where I am collecting for me isn't going to happen, regardless.

 

Catching 1 egg does not entitle anyone to monopolize my scroll. For a week, a month, or any amount of time. This is just entirely ridiculous.

 

Do you know that 2 weeks ago I have 2 low-gen tinsels, a blusang and dino I'd gotten off the departure board up to trade for a CB metal and got not one bite? I'm no longer surprised, after having come over here and seen just how much people want for these things.

All of the people I've had the pleasure of trading large hatch batches to have asked for just them, period, without the low-time requirement. However, even with a low time requirement; unless they're demanding them all up front (which, again, most don't!), you can just do a few at a time, and it's not a big deal. If you really want that rare, sparing a few stray slots per week isn't that much work. You needn't take the trade if you don't want to, but I don't think it's unreasonable. If that was the current trade rate for 2g Prizes I'd be thrilled.

 

Also, trading things you got from a gifting thread for free seems like bad form...

I'd rather have 40 hatchies for myself than any single egg because there are plenty of awesome sprites and more to come! I have done 6-12, but I've also been unable to collect on the IOU for them as the prize in question never bred. So, I started veering away from those trades.

^^;; Common hatchlings is one of those things I have in mind when I say "improve" because there one of the lower tier of things which aren't classified as "rares" in the Rare Trading Centre. Unlike CB metals or things, their existence is not limited to a person's ability to catch things, etc. Therefore, it is also one of those things where there is more competition. For example, I'd happily catch and raise more than 100 common hatchlings for a spot on someone's list, but someone might offer more, for example, 500. Because right now, I'm p. sure that we'd do anything.

Especially given the shortage of Eastern dragons, I think it would help.

I'd probably try to subcontract someone to raise dragons for me, but in the case I couldn't, I'd just do it. It wouldn't kill me and I would practically do anything.

In actual fact, I think it's probably easier to distribute as well. Maybe TJ could try limiting it to one Black per scroll and later releasing the limits once they've grown up, so that people couldn't grab more than one (which is probably easier than mass sending out emails to be honest ^^)

I am liking Suggestion #3 and #4

 

#3 - if there was a common chromatic colored prize sprite that either was released or appeared as 1 CB 'participation prize' on everyone's scroll, it would mean everyone would have the sprite of the prize, if not the color, and it would keep the metallic colors rare so they are still valued as a prize.

 

Having more than one CB chromatic if it were a sudden mass release for a one off as the raffle is announced (still runs the risk of people whining because they were not there for those days) but it would allow interesting lineages still.

 

If its just the participation 1 CB per scroll people can trade 2nd gens, since everyone will have one they shouldn't be that hard to get.

 

#4 - understanding of course that multi clutch would make the ratios so out of proportion - but yes it would be nice to get a mix of metal and kin eggs in a clutch instead of just one of either, since often both are sought after. This does run the risk of getting 4 kin though - and I seriously doubt TJ would implement a 4 metallic chance on all but it would still be a chance. But like the explanation says, you can get more 2nd gens out there because a Cb owner can breed more from the parent.

Mysfyt, the spriter of the Shimmers, supports a participation prize, so I think we can assume she's willing to re-color one.

Just to clarify -

the answer to your original question is yes - if TJ approves of a 'booby prize' of one coalskin CB prize (tinsel and shimmer and whatever else comes along) per scroll after every raffle (the effect would be cumulative after all) I will make a coalskin shimmer. Means I would get a CB tinsel finally after all .png even if it is just a coaling.
