Posted September 11, 2014 I really hate needing descriptions reviewed too. I know we need it but it just takes so long! We can't delay that even more by allowing unlimited descriptions now can we? Ya, I agree with you Puppy, if I can call you that. Share this post Link to post
Posted September 11, 2014 The average (approved) description uses fewer than half of the available character space, with a standard deviation of less than a quarter (i.e. avg < 500, stddev < 250). So descriptions that near the character limit are a severe outlier. There are some changes to the description system in the pipeline (which will probably end up with their own Preview topic), though, so I'll revisit the length limit as I work on those. Those are actually really interesting stats: I tend to write long descriptions myself because I'm always a bit wordy. And YESSSSSS description changes! I'm super excited (and feel more motivated to catch back up on reviewing after my unavoidable summer hiatus). O3O Share this post Link to post
Posted September 20, 2014 Well, for one I love it when the guy in charge offer his own input. Second, several times last night I had to change my description because it was too long, which stinks. So, for increasing the limit by 1,000 or 2,000 is the best thing that could happen to me right now. Share this post Link to post

My descroptions usualy take up almost all of the available space and sometimes have to be cut down a bit. Of course, IF I had more room, I would probably still have the same problem. Also, many of the approved ones might be very old, which in some cases might affect their length. I like to write *long* descriptions when I do happen to write them, and I've often hit the limit and had to go back to edit stuff to make it fit, often ending up with grammatically correct but still awkward sentences. I would appreciate a boost of some sort. c: Share this post Link to post

Posted September 21, 2014 (edited) I just had the idea that two-headed dragons may have the most serious problem.. they may have two heads with two different characters to describe. (Me and Shely both encountered the "not enough space" problem only once when trying to describe Two-Headed Lindwurms. Edited September 21, 2014 by love_HP Share this post Link to post
Posted September 21, 2014 (edited) It would be amazing if the description limit could be increased. As an (aspiring) writer, I would love to be able to add longer, more detailed descriptions to my dragons. Currently, I don't often describe my dragons, mostly because I feel a little too restricted by the current limits. Yes, I know it's possible to write a good description in fewer than 1000 words, but I like my descriptions to actually tell a slightly longer story and I find it very difficult to get a good 'sense' of the dragon when I have to work with so few words. That is why I voted for a 3000-character limit (or, hey, if it got raised even higher than that, I certainly wouldn't complain). I do understand that everyone that has to approve all of these descriptions may not feel the same way, however. I would appreciate it if the limit was raised in some way, even if it's by a smaller amount, but I won't complain if it doesn't get raised, either. Also, in case anyone is wondering: yes, I have had to edit a good deal of the descriptions I did write, in order to get them to fit into the limits.
