ANSWERED:Sub-scrolls/sections on scrolls

Recommended Posts

I don't know how people do it, honestly. I achieved gold trophy status quite some time ago, and basically have had to give up on my breeding projects. I just can't keep track of all my dragons anymore. There are so many of them! So many names! So many long pages they could be on! It would be amazing if there was a way to make sub-scrolls, so I could sort pairs vs. singles, pairs with projects vs. pairs without, exec. It also doesn't seem like it would be a huge coding change (though what do I know I've never built a site) so a pretty feasible thing that wouldn't really change the game, it would just... give me less of a headache? Haha.

This sounds similar to another suggestion called "MiniScrolls," which I can't find for some reason. It was locked though, so this one should be allowed to stand.

I still support an idea like this.

I support this too-- I currently use prefixes to sort my dragon by breeding project and it gets kind of annoying sometimes when I want to organize thongs a certain way but it has to be alphabetical. I also don't get to use cool/witty names.

But it's so far the only way that I can see myself keep track of anything in the future. Something more efficent would be nice, especially for people with 500+ dragons.

I remember a couple of similar suggestions and... I still support them. I'd love some way to sort our dragons by more custom criteria - not the custom sort we have now, it's a headache. Tabs, tags, sub-pages, drop-down menus, anything like that will work. The only way we can keep track of everything are spreadheets and I feel that's just not enough.

Well, anything that helps with organizing our dragons. Tags, tabs/sub-scrolls/mini-scrolls, whatever. Anything at all will help.

I support anything that would help organize our dragons and keep better track of breeding projects. I would do a LOT more breeding if it wasn't such a pain to seek out which ones I want to pair. Even the ability to search by name when breeding (like we can with fertility) would be a help, though I don't always remember the name of a dragon I'm searching for, or if I even have one of what I need.

But I like the way I have my scroll organized now, and I wouldn't want to change it. Ideally I'd like a way to have the main scroll be sorted however we want - like we have now - but there ALSO be tabs where we can place dragons for breeding projects. For instance, say I have Flamingo A and Tetra B who are part of my Flamingo x Tetra project. I'd like to have a tab that I can label Flamingo x Tetra, into which I can put those dragons, but on my main scroll Flamingo A is still with the rest of my Flamingos, and Tetra B is still with the other Tetras. Does that make sense? The tabs would be an alternate way to sort, alongside the main scroll.

I fully support this! Other adoptables sites have them and it makes everything SO much easier. I would love to have tabs for my good code collection and breeding projects. Although I can see why it's not a thing yet, it does require a lot of code and a database change.

Sub-scrolls, tabs, and/or tags would be wonderful. I've given my support every time this subject comes up. Some way to organize your scroll better would be great.

Since this topic seems to be in favor of all sub-scrolling/sorting mechanisms, let me list what I've found in the search that could apply:

1) Tabs - A topic sorting dragons permanently into separate tabs with no overlap

2) Tags - A topic labelling dragons with different tags and allows for overlap

3) Files - An older topic proposing separate caves like Pokemon Boxes

And then separately because the thread is completely gone:

4) Mini-scrolls - miniature scrolls that list dragons on a separate page while maintainig the original scroll;

- This is the concept that sounds closes to what you (the OP) are proposing. I have some pictures from the old topic that you can use here if you feel like they are applicable:

(Note: The mini-scrolls are called parchments here.)

a)Mock up page for your current mini-scrolls: user posted image

b)Mock up page for adding dragons to mini-scrolls (using Fertility as a base): user posted image

c)Mock up page for viewing a dragon found on different mini-scrolls: user posted image

d)Mock up page for seeing your current mini-scrolls on the Dragons Page: user posted image

(Thumbnails because big images)

I hope this was helpful. You can take or throw out these as you will. I'd just figure these were relevant, so I posted them here. (Plus, they were just sitting in my computer doing nothing.)

Edit: Fixing a repeat image.

Personally, I think a tags system would be more important than a tabs system, but could definitely see them working together. The tabs would facilitate sorting organization, while the tags would facilitate finding the exact dragon you want in a large scroll. For example, you could tag each member of a breeding project with the breeding project name and the generation, so you can easily find all of your 3rd gens of that project to breed.

yeah I hadn't even thought of tags! That's an awesome idea!

Even sub-scrolls that can be further divided by headers (CB, 2nd gen, 3rd gen...) would work. Just as long as we get anything - anything at all!

I would love to divide my scroll up. putting my vampires into vampire male and vampire female would go a long way for me. I could get on board with subtabs. I have 27 pages of stuff and trying to find out who is on what page - is a nightmare.

I honestly never saw the need for a Tab system, when you could have a Tab-like Tag system that does all the things, but yeah, some kind of permanent sorting mechanism is definitely needed.

I fully support this! It would be so useful and easy to find your way around large scrolls, though from a coding standpoint I have no idea how it would work.

This idea is pretty close to what I want. I think Tabs also comes close? But yeah, what Shokomon says, we really really need a permanent sorting system option that's closer to this than what we have now.

My favorite organization idea is still tags, it's more flexible than groups and would allow the same dragon to fall under multiple sortings. But I agree that some expanded organization system would be a great boon.

Would love.

I mean, I do have word documents that I track most things on, but I would love if all of this could be in one place

I think the main difference between tabs and tags was that tabs were supposed to be a permanent sorting system, whereas tags would add search filters and would not be permanent. Though I've never understood why the tabs people were so vehemently against allowing a dragon to be in multiple tabs, after all the dragons on our scrolls are drawings and not actual creatures, so we could easily draw the same dragon twice in different tabs.

@ topic: Support, anything to sort our dragons better will help. My favorite sorting system would be a permanent one that allows grouping dragons together and allows a dragon to be in more than one group.
