Ace Attorney?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone here play Phoenix Wright?

Because I do.

I really do.

I'm currently replaying Dual Destinies talk censorkip.gif about athena or apollo, not only as a ship but the characters themselves and i end you and I'm on Trial Day 2 of Case 2.

Also, Spirit of Justice.

Due to school, I haven't watched much of Slyzer's playthrough except episode 22 but it's pretty cool. I think the Magical Turnabout is, hands down, one of my top ten favourites. I don't think a lot of people like it but it's definitely one of my favourites.

So yeah, what game you on, what is your favourite character, what cases do you like, etc.

I've not played any of the games but I most certainly have watched playthroughs of them (games are expensive here $80 for a 3DS game? ;^; ).

Dual Destinies is my favourite so far, for reasons ranging from ridiculous things like 'taka' being 'garbage' in Swahili and thus giving that poor hawk a rather unfortunate double meaning of a name, and to more sensible things like Character Development that led to Apollo being my fave.

Haven't seen SoJ yet tho so who knows if I'll prefer that one over DD.

but the miracle never happen :<

Oh wow, that happened?

*runs off to corner*

if you excuse me I have important things to do

*laughs wildly*

Apollo is also my favourite. Mainly because of his character development, but partly because Apollo's a spineless cinnamon roll. (In fact, in the ending of Case 2 in SoJ, we get

I'm not marking it as spoilers as it isn't that spoilery, just very humorous.)

And his thoughts are amazing. In fact, all of the lawyers in the agency have the best thoughts. Except Athena. Sorry, yellow cinnamon roll.

Speaking of the agency lawyers, they're SHORT. Phoenix is officially 5'10 and Apollo is 5'5. (he does gain a lot of height with his hair, though) I know a 16-year-old who's taller than both of them. And considering she's BELOW half the age of Phoenix, that's really shameful. I'm not sure about Athena's height, though.

*whisper-shouts to distance*

SORRY YELLOW CINNAMON ROLL

Well they are asian, and asians are usually shorter than caucasions.

I wanna play spirit of justice (no spoilers).

Not sure which game is my favourite... 2 or three maybe? Their final cases are great!

Gumshoe is my favourite character pal! Sad he isn't in SoJ, though Maya is still great... still hoping she and Nick get together :/

I'm pretty sure they're Japanese.

I love the localisation of these games. I understand what they're trying to go for, but... man, it's just hilarious to me seeing the lawyers watching the traditional American sakura blossom as it falls 8)

I'm definitely gonna see about picking up SoJ at some point but in a few days I'm probably going to be extremely tight on money for one, quite frankly insane, reason. In the meantime the playthroughs will serve me well, after all they are visual novels more than anything so I find the impact stays the same whether I play them or watch someone else play.

I agree on the "Asians are shorter than whites", my school has a lot of asian (or half asian people.) My frenemy is half maltese, and she's pretty short, an opposite to lofty, quarter European me. There's also a few kids in my class who are from the Philippines who are a bit low. When I was 7-8 I had an Indian friend (she moved schools when her older brother graduated) and she was a little bit taller than me but it's probably because age gap. (she was approx. a year older than me)

Now I sound totally racist.

smh neon smh

Anyways, it's one of the ways how AA fails at localisation and I love it.

Speaking of AA failing at localisation;

I'm pretty sure they're Japanese.

Yeah, they are Japanese. Capcom is Japanese and thus the Japanese version is in Japan. That's why a few tweaks were made to fit America. (e.g. Maya enjoys burgers in the English version rather than eating ramen. I myself always imagine she eats ramen burgers. Basically burgers but with ramen in lieu of cheese, meat, fish, etc. etc. etc.)

About the Sakura, prologue, translated, Athena says "Hey, the cherry blossoms are blooming!" MY YELLOW CINNAMON ROLL IS SO AMAZING WITH CATCHING THOSE PORK BUNS MY CHILD I AM PROUD OF YOU and in the english version, Athena says "Wow, would you look at that!"

She completely and utterly AVOIDED saying a word about the cherry blossoms. The rest of the conversation is about Maya, then skip to Maya under the waterfall.

Oh wait I have the chance to have an "eat your hamburgers apollo" moment.

LOOK AT THE NATIVE AMERICAN SPRUCE TREE, APOLLO! WHAT A CALIFORNIAN TREASURE!

And yes ship Maya and Phoenix second best OTP beside Justicykes sail the Maya X Phoenix ship.

I remember seeing a tumblr post of a English sales pitcher pitching stuff to Capcom for English fans and he listed AA6, AA anime and then he stared at some smudging writing on his forearm and says "Day grated salad".

Best "localisation limbo" joke I've ever seen.

Japan is in asia??

Yeah the localisation is pretty dumb.

Apparently they've said they live in an alternate world where Japan had strong influence in America, so they live in Tokyo/Las Angeles

Ok, but even better: taka means "hawk" in Japanese.

Like, he's got a perfectly reasonable hawk name in the Japanese version (I think it's Gin, haven't checked in a while), but in the localized Japanifornia version, Simon Blackquill, certified samurai fanboy, named his literal pet hawk "hawk" in Japanese. I know the localization is a complete wreck at times and riddled with plot holes, but it also makes everything 10x more ridiculous. Which, in a series already as ridiculous as Ace Attorney, can only make things better.

Simon has a hawk named hawk?

By Turnabout Countdown I absolutely gave up trying to rationalise Japanfornia's legal system.

That's a long time for me understanding it and giving forgiveness to AA, even for my standards.

Speaking about DD, can we talk about how scary it is that Athena can throw an adult man probably a few years older than her over with little to no trouble?

Because yeah.

It is.

To more discussable things, I need to be honest why DD is one of my favourites, with Apollo Justice (after playing dd I have more love for lovable spineless cinnamon roll) which is that I HATE filler cases. As an aspiring writer, I Chekhov's gun everything. Boom boom boom.

But I can't imagine a single filler case in Dual Destinies.

By the way I consider a non-filler case one that has at least 4 things that'd later be important in the story; otherwise, FILLER.

*insert thriller music here.*

I've played most of the games, at least the ones I am aware of... I even managed to track down the last copy of the Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright for the 3DS in my town. Sadly I have yet to finish it, school and work have been sort of sucking my time as of late. But I have to say I love seeing my giant blue suited porcupine in fully rendered 3D.

Yeah! I loved playing those games. Objection 2012 is the best Objection theme yet, methinks, and I really enjoyed Labyrinthia. Also, I really liked the characters. I really don't list many side characters, but I think I remember most all of them. And also, I love the name "Dzibilchaltunchunchucmil". So complicatedly long. And how they even

i've been rewatching the original ace attorney trilogy on youtube and i forgot how good it was even though i've solved all these cases so many times before it's always so thrilling to watch other ppl figure it out

i was just at part where manfred von karma insists the trial ends in 3 minutes and as soon as 3 minutes passes this 50 year old prosecutor just starts SCREAMING in the middle of a public court. i love these games

Dai Gyakuten Saiban has a fan translation on Youtube. Check it out, you know dang well it ain't getting localised (despite numerous petitions and the fact that 90% of the game takes place in London). I can say the music is just as great as PLvsAA (or even better). I haven't gotten myself to watch case 5, but like the rest of the games, recommend a watch. Sherlock is a lovable goof, by the way.

I'm pretty sure SoJ is now either my favourite entry in the series or at least tied with DD. Datz is fantastic. And boy, did the localisation team go all out with the name puns. Inga's is... amazing.
