Warrior Cats: Worn Hearts and Dark Paths

"Yeah... your right," Duskfur shrugged. When they were right, they were right. "He is older and more experienced." she said. In slight horror, Duskfur realized how young they all where. Most of the cats weren't living to reach their elder days. She shivered at the thoughts, both being an elder and not living to see it. Having everyone do things for you? Or dying so young? She didn't want to think about it. Instead Duskfur examined the mountain wall, "Doesn't seem so hard," she commented. She flicked her tail as she looked for the best pawholds. She realized how small the clans where now, a big animal could easily slice the number in half. The tortiseshell perked her ears to listen for sounds.

Thornstar dipped his head. "Thank you for your agreement." He then turned to the four Clans. He was intimidated by his decision, but was not going to turn down the honor of leading the Clans. In trying to come up with a plan he realized how good his fellow leaders ideas were. "Cats of the Clans" Thornstar said raising his voice, "The younger warriors and older apprentices will assist in carrying kits. The older warriors will protect those who cannot defend themselves." As he spoke his eyes met the other leaders and he nodded in acknowledgement. Thornstar then turned and began to climb.

Icepath nodded his head. As he was deputy and had a lot of experiance he ran to the back of the clans, always checking for danger. He turned his head as he caught a familiar scent. "Wildpaw!" he growled. His daughter fell in steap beside him. "you supposed to be in the safety! go to the middle now." He couldnt let anything happen to her. "Icepath? why do we have to leave? i dont want to leave my kin behind! What if Lionblaze and Cinderheart are still alive, i mean from what you told me, they had a good chance being able to get away from those twolegs"

Icepath sighed. He too also dreaded his loved ones, Fallowtail. " Wilpaw if we stayed here we would die, we have to go, the clans have done it before and we will do it again."

Wildpaw dipped her head" but i was born here!"

" we all have to make changes sometimes in our lives, make this one your first and you can adust to anything, now get to the middle Wildpaw!"

Wildpaw did as she was told with her fathers words in her mind.i can adjust to anything!

Frostblaze watched as the RiverClan leader climbed, her ears perking for any sound. Where was Eaglestar? Did he stay back in the camp? She watched as the cats climbed the steep wall, her eyes narrowing for any sight of predators. After that, she began to climb, her eyes on the look out for any problems that might take the lives of the younger warriors, elders, or kits.

Olivewhisker nodded. "So, should we go, Duskfur?" he asked, taking a firm paw hold on the mountainside. He began to climb a few fox lengths before he looked back down at Duskfur, his tail waving as he kept his senses sharp for any predators.

Icepath waited for the leaders command. Salmonfur stood by him. " Salmonfur, do you mind keeping an eye on Wildpaw, and your son too. I know they are both responsible, but you know how it is, we only have one kit." He stared at the ground. Salmonfur brightened" Of course Icepath! You i do sometimes find it boring back here with you anyway brother! AND dont get grumy with ME your the one who stepped on my tail this morning" She meowed with laughter as she caughter up to her son and niece.

Icepath was much more settled now, he knew he could rely on his sister for almost anything.

Hawkfire looked up and watched cats climb the mountain wall. Holding a bundle of herbs in his mouth the medicine cat looked at a ledge and woundered how he would get up there. Laughing to himself he thought I' not that good of a jumper. But what ever Bending down the brown tabby tightened his mussles and released the energy build up and jumped. Mising the ledge by a whisker Hawkfire growled, feeling embarrissed.

"Yeah," Duskfur nodded, after a lot of cats started to climb. Shadowclan were good climbers, always having many pines in their territory. The she cat unsheathed her long claws, one of her favorite qualities. She grabbed a good clawhold and pulled herself up, coming after Olivewhisker. She dug her claws into the rock and tried to catch up with him.

Cloudkit bounced up to the rock wall and smiled. "I can climb this anyday!" he squeaked happily. The white kit reached his paws up and slid his tiny little claws out. He actually got a fixed pawhold, but struggled to pull himslef up. "Urph!!!" he complained when a falling pebble hit him on the head.

(Thornstar is leading the cats on the journey. Nothing else except that the cats are climbing a mountain side to get up to the mountains. ^^))

Olivewhisker climbed more and more, his tail lashing. He could see that they were getting close to their destination. The handsome sandy tabby and white tom flattened his ears. Where was the deputy? Oh, there she was. The pretty tortiseshell cat was a few foxlengths below him. He paused to let her catch up, his olive colored eyes darting below him to find any kind of threat. Then, he saw a kit. It wasn't hard enough to miss it, since it was white. "Look down there!" he cried. "At the kit!"

"Cloudkit!" Frostblaze lashed her tail as she looked down at Cloudkit. "Wait for a warrior to carry you, by StarClan's sake!" her pointed face held traces of annoyance.

Thornstar hated to admit it, but he hated to climb. He was terrible at it. Oh sure he could if he felt like. However he preferred to be able to swim. Just to be no longer held to the ground and to be able to float freely. The pull of the current, the rush of swimming against the current. Thornstar took a moment to claw his way onto a ledge. He looked out at how far he had climbed. He was surprised by how far he had climbed. The view from the ledge was stunning. He could see the lake in the distance. "At least the Twolegs can't take that away" Thornstar said, mostly to himself.

"Eeek!" Cloudkit squeaked in response to Frostblaze's scold. "Hmp!" He jumped down and sat down grumpil, muttering agrilly to himself. 'I can do it!' he thought. 'I'll just show them!' Cloudkit scratched the dirt, more playfully than angrilly.

Rainpaw hurried up toward Cloudkit. "I'll get him!" he picked him up in his mouth. He was such a tiny kit, and Rainpaw was a big apprentice. Cloudkit struggled and whined, but he managed to start climbing. He tried to be carefull, but couldn't help scrambling up the mountain wall. He did everything much to quickly, said his elders, yet it would save his life in a threatening sittuation.

Duskfur climbed up on a ledge large enough to hold her. She looked down at the kit, but noticed Rainpaw getting him. She focused back to the climbing and crawled next to the handsome tom. She was tired, but tried to keep her breathing nice and level, there was nothing wrong with a strong she cat, and she wanted to come off like that to the clans.

Russetfur climbed carefully up with Willowkit in his mouth. He had refused to let her climb the wall by herself, and now he was stuck with the picky kit. He turned his head from time to time to see if Sorrelflight was doing okay scaling the wall.

Frostblaze rolled her eyes at the kit who complained. Seriously, Cloudkit had thistledown in his brain. Sometimes she had called him rabbit-brain because she had heard that rabbits didn't think about anything. Her ear flicked.

"We're almost there!" called Stormheart, who had stopped underneath Thornstar. His green eyes are focused ahead. "I believe if we go just over that edge, we'll reach flat land. Thornstar, since you're the highest, can you check and see if there's flat ground?"

"Kits, huh," Olivewhisker murmured to Duskfur. "Sometimes they don't think. I heard that back at the forest, a kit named Snowkit was born deaf and was gobbled up by an owl." he made his voice high so that Cloudkit could hear. "That's because he didn't pay attention."

"One moment" Thornstar said in response. Thornstar then scanned the area as closely as he could. He looked in the direction Stormheat mentioned. There was indeed flat land over the ledge. "Yes! Yes there is flat land not too far up. We shouldn't be too long getting up there." With that. Thornstar stretched his legs, ready to get moving again.

Climbing Hawkfire listened as the other cats spoke. Stoping on a ledge the medicine cat looked up at the sky asking his ancestors for guidence. Sighing he went through herbs in his mind.Borage for fevers..burdock for infection..juniper to ease the stomich..

Stormheart nodded. "Come on, keep on going then," he called, lashing his tail. StarClan, he was tired. The only time when he climbed was when he climbed a tree to save a kit from an owl that had swooped him up. But that was during his apprentice years, and he was foolish to do so. He shook his head and sighed. If he was tired, he was going to finish this climb. No matter what.

"Good job," Frostblaze looked down at Rainpaw, the RiverClan apprentice. "Thank you. Come on, cats, there's only a few mouse lengths till Thornstar reaches the ledge! We need to hurry, so that we can find a shelter for the night."

"I agree with Frostblaze," murmured Olivewhisker to Duskfur. "We need to find an overhang to rest under just in case if there's a storm."

''Yes! Yes there is flat land not too far up. We shouldn't be too long getting up there.''

'Finally, some good news!' Brighteyes thought, pausing for just a moment to catch her breath. For the moment, she had wound up bringing up the rear of the pack anyway, helping the straggling kits and elders find safe footing before making her own way up the rocks.

So far, everyone seemed to be doing well... but what about later on? This energy wouldn't last them forever... and what would they do about prey? She could catch some stale scents on the stones, faint traces of birds and mice, but anything that had left those scents had to be long gone by now.

'No. You can't think like that. You're a Clan leader, for StarClan's sake, you have to be the strongest. You can't despair,' she told herself. Even if it would be difficult, they'd find a way.

Confident that the warriors would now be able to ensure the safe climb of the weaker cats, Brighteyes nimbly bounded up towards her deputy and one of the ShadowClan warriors, where she heard them talking about finding a ledge or some other sort of shelter.

"And that's to say nothing of prey," the leader meowed in a soft tone, so any nearby kits might not hear and panic. "We won't last another day if we can't find fresh-kill..."

Wildpaw sped ahead of Stripepaw. She didn't want to always be watched by Salmonfur, she hated being stared at or the center of attention.

Icepath noticed an old elder struggling. "here, let me help you," He lended his body for the elder to lean on while they were climbing and now again again he gave him a little push. " Not all cats can do it by themselves, we need to help each other." Icepath meowed more to himself than the elder. The old cat nodded and pricked his ears forward. Something had caught his attention. He flicked his tail.

Icepath rolled his eyes. " Why can i keep her under control..." he whined as he watched his daughter helplessly.

Wildpaw was excited by the new scents of the cats and land that she hadn't noticed the cats were no longer in front of her. She her a grunt and swiveled round on the spot cowering as she stared up at the leaders that she had accidently ran past without a second though. " Oops."

Thornstar smiled to himself as he claw his way up to the clearing. He nearly slipped but caught himself before he could. He hated heights with every hair on his pelt. But there was nothing he could do. With one, final pull he jumped up on to the rock. Thornstar gladly retracted his claws and stretched out. He decided to look out again and was shocked at how far they had gotten. Maybe we can do this. With a glance up to the sky Thornstar silently thanked StarClan for letting the Clans survive. Focusing back on the mountains, he looked around for a place to hunt.

Olivewhisker glanced up at the leader, a frown crossing his face. That was also true. "We'll find prey," he murmured, sheathing and unsheathing his claws and narrowing his eyes. He would do anything to find more prey, for all the Clans. "Maybe we can do what we did back at camp. All food goes to the kits and queens and elders, and then the warriors and the others will get fed."

Stormheart leapt up beside the RiverClan leader and his eyes widened at the sigh of the area. "There's all the area to cross before the next mountain region. And look, there are farms. We have to be careful with sheep and horses."

Hollyfeather focused her attention on what Stormheart was saying " And we need to tell the others not to hunt rabbits around the farms, they could be the twolegs pets and if they find one of their rabbits missing they will try to shoot us, and make sure the apprentices understand" She meowed, she didnt want anyone taking a risk that could turn out to be fatal. She sighed as she padded ahead(she was smaller so she could not see as much as the others) to she could see more of the path Starclan laid out for them.

She turned to see Wildpaw. " Go back now." She calmly said with with a dangerous tone. She was not going to let her brother kit get in danger. As Wildpaw took several steps back she bumped into Rainpaw. Cloudkit was struggling. " oh sorry! wow he looks like a handful would you like some help?" she offered, she wanted to get to know a cat not from her own clan, they were so annoying!

"They'll only come after us if they find us," Brighteyes said, looking up when she heard Hollyfeather. "But I agree, we shouldn't go after rabbits... unless we have to. I'd prefer the risk of being shot by a Twoleg than starving and watching my cats starve as well!

"This is going to be dangerous, we may have to take huge risks. But those risks will be what keep us alive, right?"

" I dont know, but ive got an idea!" Hollyfeather brightened up. " Twolegs hate mice dont they? And if we ever get hungry there will always be mice in the barns. We could hunt them and maybe the twolegs wont bother us because we hunt their enemys, but only if there is not enough prey to support us outside the farm, is it too risky? I dont wont to see them starve either, but i also dont want them to die needlessly."Hollyfeather straightened up.

Stormheart listened to the cats discuss what they should do. No hunting on Twolegs' territory, he already he knew that. It would take a mousebrain to be hunting on Twoleg's territory. All of a sudden, he smelt the scent of fox. He bristled. A fox had taken his younger brother, and he had a grudge against them till now. "Fox!"

"Calm down," barked a voice. A slender figure stepped out from the shadows, amber eyes shining. It was a fox, and it knew how to speak cat. "StarClan told me you would be coming here."

Hollyfeather flattened herself to the ground and hissed. Her claws slid out and she got ready for battle. Then the fox spoke. She was shocked, i can understand it!

She hissed again " And what do you know about Starclan?" she questioned. She felt she had to act strong.

(BTW the hunting on twoleg grounds) was only for emergencies
