Dearest Diary,

This is my second entry to you, but not the last. I plan to continue writing in you for years to come!

There's a few new hatchlings in the clan, but most are trade fodder. There's a Black hatchling who's here to stay though! Her name is Peachy Pansy. There's also a Moonstone hatchling, but he's in the process of being traded away. I've been getting to know him, and he's actually very nice. I'm really going to miss him. I just hope he has a good life wherever he goes!

A sheet of paper lies crinkled in the sand of a rocky shore.

Wow. Darndest thing I ever saw today. I went to visit the tundra to see my friend--and check for abandoned eggs of course, Ayedura won't let me forget that--and there weren't any new dragon nests or eggs around at all. The locals were all hiding away, wouldn't come out to greet me except for my friend-- the paper is torn and unreadable-- said some new dragons had just moved in some other places; coast, desert, forest, things like that. So I went and see and what do you know, there're shadowy lurkers and abandoned nests everywhere. Strange thing is, the lurkers looked like humans, and they really were everywhere. In the trees, by the cliffs, digging up sand, you name it. Whenever a lurker, whatever it was, found a new dragon nest, a whole ton of others came running immediately and snatched up the eggs fast as they could.

Lucky for me, there was an egg high up in a cliff and I got it before the lurkers could climb up. It looked nothing like any type of egg I'd ever seen before. Gave it to Ayedura when I got back and all the dragons ooh'ed and aah'ed over it like it was something special. Well, I guess it was a bit special. Those new dragons will probably stay, even if them lurkers catch whatever they can 'cause the wilds here are pretty nice. Better watch for more eggs now.

Dear scroll,

It has been two years since I hatched. now I'm an adult, and I've got eggs and hatchlings to take care of with me. right now in this cave is me, mature albino, Vaporia, the new skywing hatchling, seamoon, the moostone hatchling, and four eggs. we're alone in the cave right now. from time to time a human comes and checks on us, sometimes brings a new egg in. dragons come in here from time to time to visit us too, must've been skullete's, friends at one point. she's the human that comes in here. the dragon's are; a two-headed, pygmy, bright-breast, and a black. a few months ago i just heard a story, my favourite, from them and Vaporia is listening to it now. it was about my birth. i would've almost died if it wasn't for advice from friends and family, the reason I'm here, writing on this scroll.

Dear scroll,

hatchlings and eggs can grow up so fast. the dragons still visit us and so does skullete. i have been thinking for sometime now... we should start a clan. yes i can see it now.... our cave is at the top of a cliff, that is where the leader will be. the clearing below us will be the dens of the other ranks. at the bottom of this cliff will be the daycare and nursery. off to the side of this cliff will be the sribes, such as myself. a library of scrolls will be at the very back of this cave at the end of a tunnel, it is also connected to a cave at the peak of this cliff. it will hold all the scrolls, scrolls like this. i will tell skullete about this, im sure she will think its a great idea. then everyone will help build it up. it wll be the beginning of life.

Dear Journal,

My Keeper have given me you, though I'm not sure what to do with you now, she said she has left it in good hands. So far the gave has been good to me. My parents have left me and I was taken to my owner, and from there I grew up and have had two children with my mate, Aries. My first was forced to be taken away, it wasn't my master's fault. Though I can't help but feel ashamed for what she must think of me. My second, Hadius has recently matured into a lovely dragoness.

We have many new hyper hatchlings, Missy, Liam and Zak. A Terrare has so far been ungendered. Yet another vampire egg has arrived in the cave, it makes me uneasy. I never liked vampires, ever since I saw Nicole bite her first egg. I was highly protective of little Hadius when she was an egg, though Nicole said she would not harm her. And now, the egg that she have bitten has bit his first as well. Watching the egg turn brown and grow cold has always been a rather terrible show.

That is all I can say, for now.

In the middle of a barren patch of soil is a curl of parchment, speckled with dark, dull red.

All Hallow's Eve grows closer! I can feel my power growing already, though it is still o'er a moon away. Lucidi and Forteque agree that the slowly darkening skies are delightful, though little Aurur doesn't care much for the cold. Dansen and Esprit are ... well, dancing around each other, being coy and shy. Lucidi whispered to me that they like each other. It certainly seems likely, as I was that way once with Scarlaetta. Perhaps we'll see some new eggs from the two by Halloween.

P.S. There seems to have been a spate of lost notes recently. I wouldn't be surprised if this disappeared from my claws sometime soon as well.

Dear Journal,

That dreaded vampire has hatched, right now it may look dead, but I can see it softly breathing, occasionaly it give me a twitch. Though I fly off at the sight of it moving. Another dragon who hatched a few minutes earlier than the vampire is quite strange. It has hellfire in it's blood, Becki could tell. Ever since it hatched the sky has been dark and the weather foul. More eggs have arrived in the cave. A moonstone, a daydream and a thunder. The thunder egg is the first rare to enter our clan. Most of the dragons were fasinated by it, including me. It shoots of electricity and lights up the cave. I have to stop writing, ever since that daydream arrived I can't think right.

Dear scroll,

more new eggs, more new dragons. we finally had enough for the beginnings of a clan. i addressed everyone during the afternoon, for the sake of some of the dragons. I told them everything about the ideas and what we need to do. it was hard selecting a leader for the dragon clan. it could've been anyone. but we had to think about there good and bad sides. Adulfi for example. no one can get near her, especially if she was leader. Nubunium is too much of a risk taker, Solisser and Opacure are awake in specific times only... the list goes on forever. i would be perfect but i rejected the idea. i was meant to be a writer. so we all selected Malefica, the magic dragon. she was intelligent and had always thunk first. we all started the building of the clan today... and should be finished by tomorrow.

Dear Journal,

I am Zayana, the Bronze dragon. Actually I'm not THE Bronze dragon, just one of the many in Sparkle's Caves.

Each day more dragons join the ranks of Sparkle's Caves. Today a Thunder egg was bred and is now nestled inside the nursery nests. But there is a rumor going around that the Thunder egg will be taken away. That has happened before, but never with such a prized and helpful dragon!

There is also a Paper dragon in the nursery cave. She has been named, so I believe she's here to stay!

Dear journal,

Chaos Lunar has been seen nearby again. I sent Radient off and he scampered away after that encounter.

I must admit, Radient does give off a threating aura especially if he's angry. Meanwhile, a young woman stumbled out of the dark forest some miles away with nasty injuries to her body and collapsed.

Nuo brought her to the medic cave where she got kicked out. Everyone was talking about the strange lady when, much to our surprise, Mistress dashed out of the shaky time portal and went to where the lady was.

Misro

---------------------------------------------------

The woman has been healed and is now in a coma to Mistress's dismay. Misro has asked for some time off which I've allowed. He's too young to be leader anyway.

Even more troubling news has come to light.

A strange message has appeared on the wall near the entrance of our cave. It seems to to be written in blood. And not just any blood but an unicorn's. Fresh too by the looks of it. Ugh, just thinking about it is giving me shivers.

There's something going on here but what? I feel too much is at stake, but I'll ask El Diablo to translate the message tomorrow.

Dear Journal,

Two eggs hatched in the dead of night. One of Ollia's eggs, which is yet another ice dragon. Then a little blue and grey hatchling that I fear may have a medical condition due to its two tails. In other words, Neeven brought me an egg that was already hatching. She was surprisingly nervous when I asked her who fathered it. Deadly Iris agreed that we should keep an eye on her.

Speaking of Iris, she discovered who has been smashing eggs; those two male Luminas. She absolutely flipped out once she found out in the middle of dinner. It ruined my appetite once she tore the one's wing. Nyglin managed to calm her in several moments. They won't be killed within the week, they will be killed on Hallow Eve. Ah, Iris, I'll never get tired of you.

Frinn agrees that the two Luminas should be killed today. Poor Pillow is in charge of watching the hatchlings and eggs so of course she is fretting. She has pointed out that the 'Lady Pack' (a group of female dragons that believe they are special) have been disappearing for long periods of time.

I'll have to follow them tomorrow. But now I must go assist a hatching egg.

Dear Journal.

Neevan's egg hatched yesterday. It is rather tiny and may be blind. That didn't stop Neevan from taking the hatchling into the desert. I quietly followed them from a distance. They entered a hole that laid nestled in between two sand dunes. I peered in and saw the entire girl pack with that missing Heartseeker. He is in horrid condition. Scales burnt away, fins torn. What could they possibly be doing to him? I barely had enough time to hide as the Ladies exited.

My throat was horribly dry so I entered the den to sneak a bit of water. The Heartseeker was licking the blind hatchling as softly as a doe would. I took a gulp of water and attempted to sneak out. Of course, he spotted me. "What are you doing here? Have you turned to the Lady Pack?" he asked me in a worried voice. We spent a few minutes talking about what was going on then he asked if I would try to fix his wrecked belly scales. Poor thing. I had to tug many scales free because they were too burnt to fix. Infection had already set in.

Then Dorn and Wel began to back down the den enterence dragging a dead camel. The Heartseeker rolled over onto me and pulled a torn quilt over himself to cover both of us. The Lady Pack were giggling about Hallow Eve coming up and something about one of the whiptail guards. They sat down and enjoyed the camel, while others ate cactus fruit.

"So, Chocolateer, have you noticed that its been getting colder in the desert?" Pearl Collector squeaked through a mouthful of fruit. The Heartseeker chuckled like nothing was wrong. "Of course, that's why I have the quilt over me."

After finishing their meal, they collected the blind hatchling and left for the Cave. "C'mon, Vazz, was it? I know of a secret way to the main cave," Chocolateer stood and led me down another tunnel until we got to the exit. Under a boulder right next to my nest. I covered up the hole once he left.

Frinn probably shouldn't know about this, nor Iris. Iris would kill the Lady Pack in minutes. And I don't want to have the poor blind hatchling orphaned, would I?

That reminds me, I'm gonna watch over that hatchling tonight.

Dear journal,

Several hatchlings have gendered. The mysterious lady yesterday has recovered from the coma so quickly, that Mistress called me to speak with her. Apparently, Mistress wants someone to watch the lady as she is caught up in her part of the world, which from I've heard from her conversations with Fates, is quite time consuming. And guess who she picked? Me of course. As if I don't have anything to do! (Which is partly truthful I guess). Also, the Vampires have been disappearing when the full moon rises. Odd.

Then I asked Mistresss what the message on the wall was all about. I noticed her face had turned blank as if set in stone, then she explained that it's a "portent". About what I didn't get the chance to ask. The strange lady walked in before I could and I quickly made my leave. I don't know why, but every time the lady comes near, she causes the clan to become uneasy.

Anyway I got the translation of the portent;

Nightblades creep out of darkness and to darkness they return,

Leaving destruction with dead behind and back to where, no one can learn.

The Mirror Mage when called, thinks she will be made a fool,

Lets her instincts be her guiding. She'll be no unwitting tool.

Sickness comes and becomes apparent as a deadly spell

When she sees, she'll know the symptoms well...

That's all El Diablo could translate so I'm told, before the message vanished and when she asked if anyone else saw it, the others dismissed it as just her imagination. Interesting. But the portent is disturbing.

I better not tell anyone. The clan is stressed enough now, without even more trouble brewing, especially as more eggs have been found in the nest seeming to have appeared out of nowhere.

The paper is partly torn, with evident claw marks marring it.

Soren's being a little brat again. Yes, he has wild parents, but does he have to be so uncivilized? It's bad enough he convinced other frozen hatchlings to join him in his silly little "Wild Cave" clans. Hmph! What does it matter that he's older than most of the adult dragons here? He certainly isn't any more mature than a new-hatched young'un.

Oh, come now, Hydrae, they're not that bad. Little Soren's just excited for All Hallow's Eve and--

Well of course he is! That marrow dragon, er, er, what's his name--

Blackbone?

Yes, that one! He's been telling Soren all sorts of things, filling his head with wild stories. Won't be a wonder if he brings home a Vampire... Darn it, Aqueous, are you transcribing our conversations again?

Ye--

I told you, I don't mind you writing whatever you write, but leave me out of it! You know what, give that here--

No! This is mine and A series of unintelligible scribbles cross the page.

Elsewhere, half a dragon sighs, "Now look what you've done."

Dear Journal,

She came today. I've never seen anything like her. Actually I smelt her first- rotten eggs mixed with fresh blood. Hekaba was rumored to be a myth but nope. "Just wanna let ya guys know that I've been smellin' some very strange things in the desert. Might wanna keep out of there just in case. Its cold there for some reason so me and Locky moved to the volcanos." Then she lumbered off.

The volcanos were more then eighty miles away. That called for a celebration.

Deadly Iris sent out three hunting patrols and two gathering patrols. Once they returned we all had races, showed off our powers, and just fooled around. Neeven's hatchling and the other hatchlings particularly enjoyed when everyone went to eat. Quillion allowed the hatchlings to crawl around on his back, they enjoyed it very much.

Tal showed up with a cave born nebula egg tucked under her arm. She normally doesn't come this early. I ignored her because she was speaking to Dancea.

Two hours later, I decided to catch a little rest. I found a decent sized rock lying in my nest with Chocolateer's scent all over it. A piece of paper was pinned underneath. It asked that I went to the desert den to help a certain Heartseeker fix his new burns.

I found myself in the den less then thirty minutes pulling out wrecked belly scales. "They decided to sleep at the cave today, we're fine. Heck, you can sleep here tonight if you want."

"Yo, Chocolateer, where's the-"

Dancea had walked in and froze. Her eyes widened as she looked from me to Chocolateer. "Hehe, how romantic. Don't worry. I ain't gonna tell nobody."

She took a sip from the spring, giggling to herself. "Iris said she wants everyone to stay in the cave all winter. Doesn't want anyone to get hurt."

I could only breath once she left. We made our way back to the cave where Iris was sorting more patrol to collect food. Neeven quickly came over and took Chocolateer over to the blind hatchling.

Damn Turpentine.

Dear journal,

I realise now that I shouldn't have sent Anisa to tail the lady last night, but it seemed like a good opportunity at first. She came back with scratches only just managing to whisper "Sorry" before she collapsed.

I talked with her a few hours ago in the medic cave and what she said was surprising. And I couldn't help but feel slightly hurt. I may not be one of the first few brought here, to Stormageddon Manor, but I am the closest Mistress has to a true friend (as well as Ghost, Fates and Obscuratio but that's all), in this world harsh as it is.

She had shadowed the lady and Mistress to the veranda. It seemed the lady was watching the nocturnal animals hunt. Surrounded by the moon's glow, Mistress' hair was pulled up in a style that even I rarely see. The Dragoneye queue before they vanished so they say. The lady nodded, then disappeared making her wonder what kind of bond they have.

Then Anisa said she felt the brush of ancient magic. As she watched, shocked, Mistress was surrounded by a ghost-like mist. When the mist faded, she wore a dark green cloak with runes carved into it and her eyes seemed wise beyond their years. With a last look to the sky, the mage jumped down from the veranda and walked to the forest.

I know Anisa would never tell a lie, so the portent must be coming true. Our Lady is the Mirror Mage, long forgotten from history, except for a few scrolls left in our library but they are delicate and in an old tongue.

My only question is why only now has she chosen to reveal herself? It's one I plan to find the answer to...

Dearest Journal,

I don't know what got into me. Three hours ago Neeven's kid was prancing around with the hatchlings as it was his last two hours as a hatchling. I felt a sudden flash of anger and poked the hatchling with my stick as I walked by. Just a hour ago, he didn't grow up. He sobbed for awhile before Frinn took him to Neeven, who was just coming back from a hunting trip.

That turp flipped out and began questioning every. Single. Dragon. That lived here. Even Iris. I too said no to her.

Scarlet Dancer told me that Deadly Iris wants me several minutes later. Our leader was splayed out in her den. "Vazzmanoa," she said without opening her eyes, "Did you freeze Blind-y?"

I hung my head in shame while waiting for the vampire to punish me.

"You. FROZE MY BABY!?" Neeven, who was waiting outside, screeched.

"Mama! No! Not just that! I recognize that scent. She was with daddy a few days ago. In the den then everyone came back with that camel," Blind-y squeaked from were he was sitting on Iris' neck.

Neeven screamed with fury about how I 'killed' her hatchlings chance at life and took her mate then took off.

I ran after her and saw her flying towards the desert. Losing a feather or two, I hurled myself into the air and chased her in the direction of the den.

Once I got there she had Chocolateer on his back and was beating him hard. A pool of violet dragon blood and loose tan Heartseeker scales lying in to sand. I tried to pull her off but she was digging into Chocolateer's flesh.

She threw herself at me and we fought until a very. Very. Very. Angry Deadly Iris showed up and plucked her from the ground as if she was a hatchling. She was set down after a moment. Deadly Iris lead us all back to the cave where she yelled at use for a few moments then stormed off.

"Vazzmanoa, Chocolateer, go patch yourselves up and stay in your den for the rest of the night," Quillion hissed at us.

Kyyri:

September 17, 2012:

I'm not sure I know how I fit in here. As we all sat around Tarak's fire and watched the moonlight on the lake, I noticed something. We were all found by the odd girl at around the same time, and we all hatched around the same time, but I am not like the other two. Tarak and Aarya are big, and I am very small. I would think it was because I am female, but so is Aarya. I am very confused. Am I inferior in some way? Was I not incubated sufficiently in my egg?

I do not feel inferior. I can go places Tarak and Aarya cannot, places with the girl. I can fly quickly and invisibly, and I can hide well in the trees while I hunt. Tarak thinks he needs to protect me, but he does not. I am unnoticeable, I can blend in with the small things.

Maybe it is a genetic thing. There are several other eggs the girl has found. One should be hatching within the next moon cycle. I look forward to seeing the dragon it grows to be - big or small.

Dear journal,

The lady came back but Mistress did not, until some hours before dawn. Naeem took one look at her, back to normal and yelled at her in front of the whole clan. She was deadly quiet and all of us ran off to hide, in case she had a legendary rage. Fortunately she didn't but stormed off.

I found her reading one of the scrolls from long ago afterwards muttering under her breath. The lady was nowhere to be seen which sparked my concern. Ghost looked in, "My Lady, we need to explain the portent and where the woman went". She stood as the woman walked in, her face pale as death.

I was merely watching hidden behind a rock. The lady explained that her peace had been broken, as horrifying memories have come to light and would Mistress let her leave? Ghost nodded then escorted the lady to the portal.

Yet when the portal allowed her in, we heard screams then smoking bones appeared where she had stepped into it. The skull's expression was one of terror and extreme pain. Just seeing it, Mistress sprinted off shaking.

Then Ghost drew me aside beckoning me to come into what looked like an old cave, covered with ivy at the entrance. "I guess you told Anisa to track the lady and Mistress last night?" I hung my head in shame. "Yes, but I had no idea of what Mistress really was." Ghost then kept quiet for a moment before speaking gently. "I'll explain why." To my surprise, she held out the scroll Our Lady had been reading earlier.

"The portent was written long before you were born. In fact, any of us. 500 years ago, the Mirror Mage vanished." I nodded having known this bit for ages, but what she said next sent chills up my spine.

"Our ancestors searched tiredlessly for her, but they only found dust from where she was last seen." I shuddered. "Some thought that she died from sickness or poisoning but no one was really sure what had happened. What they knew for certain however, was that her father turned insane and died soon after he was put in a mental hospital to cope with the tragedy. Yet a rumour spread; that the Mirror Mage had survived, but was now in a different universe, seperate from their own. And there are still some today, albeit fewer as the years go by, who still believe that she pops back every so often to her side of the world." Ghost finished. "That's all I can tell you." Her voice became a whisper. "Maybe one day, you'll know why".

I started to leave the cave but stopped just as I reached the entrance as she called, "Oh and Magic? Pass the story down to your children if you keep any, for I'm not as young as I once was."

I turned back curious. "Were you there at the time? You seem to know an awful lot about this." She chuckled. "Oh darling, that I can't tell you. Spoilers." As I walked out, I caught the slightest shine of her eyes. She whispered, her voice lost to the wind. "And remember my little one... Always."

Mysterious and mysteriouser. I need to find out more, though I've got a bad feeling about all of this. Plus I need to gather the clan for a

meeting. We haven't had one for so long, I've forgotten what to do!

Iris granted Neeven permission to have another egg. But Chocolateer ran like he was being chased by a angry hellfire. Hehe, next time I see one of those turp eggs I'm gonna give it to one of the vampires.

We finished salting and collecting food today. Horribly cold outside now. A majority of the dragons are huddling together in the back of the cave now. Only a few are risking going out now.

The Hallow Eve dragons are growing restless. Bone Knocker, one of the Black Marrows, invited me over to their corner of the cave. He explained that we were going get a Pumpkin or two, some more of Marrows/Shadow Walkers, some of the new Hallow Dragons. We all knew that those two Luminas were going to be killed, but according to Bone Knocker, we needed two more dragons to kill.

Now, Neeven would be nice to kill, but I told a lie to Boney and ran off.

Damn it, now Ghost is sick. Mistress has just locked herself in her side of the cave, still upset about the death of her friend. Seems everything is happening all at once and with All Hallow's Eve soon, I've a feeling plans will go to pot.

Naeem allowed El Diablo the chance to be a mother again with Valentine's angelus cadicus, but the fool ran off like the hounds of Hell were after him. Naeem has sworn that if they don't produce an egg next time, he'll use Fertility. So far it hasn't worked and the others won't go anywhere near the purples, for fear they'll be cursed with it.

It's been rather warm for us but the air's turning cold. Winter's on its way. So far, no one's been allowed out except for the Vampires and the Reds and they've brought back a lot of food. Should be enough until Spring arrives hopefully.

Lovely, the fire's roasting now. I'll go and see if I can snag a space near the roaring flames.

September 25th, 2012.

Dear log,

Mistress sat again for hours on end, writing on the book she has been working on. She read to me for a while as she wrote it - asking for my opinions - but I could not truly think. It hasn't been the same since we have moved from a desolate part of England to some plains beside the mountains. The log cabin looks beautiful from the outside, but I feel encased in the walls when I am sat within, staring at the fire that burns so beautifully in a pit beside the statues of wolves that have claimed one wall as their territory. Many Guardians would have long since adapted to this new lifestyle, I know it is unusual for me not to do so, but I just feel so far away from home. Mistress doesn't really notice. She cares so fervently for the Neglected dragon that I often think she doesn't remember I exist.

The mountains are wonderful though, they home a few other breeds of free dragon, but my Mistress says often that she doesn't want any others for now. She gave me a collar, I couldn't complain; she forged it with her own hands and it is beautiful, but I'm starting to just feel like a domesticated cat, where once I was free. I am grateful that she raised me, but I long to be able to soar amongst the others. I wish she could understand the true wonder it is to fly, not just be carried on my back. Perhaps then, Mistress would know what it is that I pine for.

Night begins to envelope the sky and stars shine, they are beautiful too, but they seem to mock my inability to spread my wings and fly. Fly away and be free. I will learn to live with it here. The sick dragon seems content, my Mistress is so good to him that he practically has just become domesticated. He lies with his head in her lap and lets her gently caress the skin on his head. But I am sure too that if he was not so weak, he would run away. He would surely die in the wild though, and he fears death as most others do.

My loyalty does not falter and Mistress promises to take me up to the mountains tomorrow whilst the sickly, green dragons stays at home and rests. I am very excited, I wonder what I will find. Lairs, caves... Maybe even friends? I don't know how friendly the beasts are around here.

Not yet.
