Fan Site Section Guidelines.

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the Fansite Section sub-forum!

Section Summary

This section provides a place for people to share their sites that are created for users to hatch their dragons or further discuss DC. These sites are often known as fansites. There are many different types available, from self serving sites (where users can manually input their scrolls/codes), to forum based sites designed to share scrolls with manual clicking.

If you’re looking for a site to help hatch your eggs or if you have made a site that users can post their eggs on to assist their hatching, you’ve come to the right place!

This section allows one topic per site, and you do not need moderator approval to post here. However, it is suggested that you make your topics as clear and in-depth as possible to attract new members.

Furthermore, if your topic has received no posts within 30 days, it may be deleted as inactive. Bumping does not guarantee your topic will remain open. (Fansite section allows one (1) bump after 30 days with no posts.) It is your prerogative to keep your topic active, either by posting in it yourself with new information or updates, or by other users posting in it. However, if you want to remake your deleted topic at any point, that’s fine, but we do strongly advise that you maintain your topic with accurate information and keep it active.

Remember: Frequently check the ToS ( http://dragcave.net/terms ) as changes can be made at any time and some aspects may be relevant to fansites.

One area that may be particularly relevant:

How to Create a New Fansite Topic! (A Suggested To Do List)

1. When your fansite is ready or reasonably usable, please post a topic. Make sure there is only one topic for your fansite.

2. Use a clear topic title that clearly shows your fansite name. A further suggestion would be to add information to the header like: Updated: 01/01/01 or Self Serve Site!

3. In your first post, make sure to include the following: a link to your fansite, information describing and informing the users about your site (EG What sort of site it is – self serve, forum based, what makes your site interesting, any events/competitions, a general site overview), a list of staff or who to contact if there’s a problem, as well as any extra information or attractions that make your site unique or interesting.

Please make sure it is clear so that users understand.

4. Wait for your users to be drawn to your site.

NB: A site is only as active and popular as you make it. Frequent things to draw users in like competitions or new and exiting updates will encourage users to join.

Furthermore, your site is your site. We have no control over DC users once they have left the DC site. If a user is causing trouble or breaking your sites’ rules, there is nothing a DC moderator can do (unless they’re breaking the ToS).

I've created a new community on Dreamwidth's blog site:

Eggs_and_More

I've made it for anyone wanting to post internet adoptables, but the Dragon Cave is my first love smile.gif

Dreamwidth does require an invite or a paid account, but if anyone has a blog there already, you're welcome to join.

I've got a fansite that is nearly finished but will need alpha testers--can I make a thread for it, or do I have to wait until testing is completed?

Am I allowed to post my eggs on here to get views?

No. You need to go to the actual fan site and follow that sites instructions on how to post your eggs there.

If I would build a fansite for lineage planning and the site would need to host copies of the lineage images (the framed rectangles used here), would I have to get permission from all the sprite artists?

I am using too many fansites and my eggs/hatchlings are getting sick from it. Is it okay if I post a poll for users to vote on which of the ones I am using are the best? This is because all of the sites are easy to use and I can't decide which ones to stop using. The site(s) with the least amount of votes would be the ones I would quit going to. If such a topic is not allowed here, which section should I post it in?

I have a few questions: does it have to be a hatchery to be posted here? and where would I post to see if anyone would be interested in helping me make a fansite?

The first post in this thread goes over the requirements for this section but I will quote a small portion of it here:

I almost forgot about this question, but if someone has an answer, it would still be useful.

(That is, it would determine whether or not I would make that lineage planning tool. Because programming is easy, but communication is difficult. tongue.gif )

New question:

Is there a place (link collection) to post small tools that can't really be called "fan site"?

Or should something like the name generator in my signature get its own topic?

Hehe, for the code "L0NDo" I get things like "Lefonananana" (Batman!)

Anyway, I'd love to see a central place for little tools like this - I wouldn't have noticed this tool ever because I usually switch off the display of signatures (too many moving images!)

I would hope the lineage thing would be ok, but I have no definitive answer.

As for the random tools, it would probably be appropriate to list things like that under "Miscellaneous" in the Active Fansites thread, if you would like. I'm not sure how much visibility that would really gain it, but at least it and any others could be collected somewhere! If anyone knows of any others, please post them in the thread, and I'll make a comprehensive update to the list when I have a bit more free time.
