Nonfiction

Recommended Posts

Most of the threads here are for discussing fictional works, so I thought a general thread for nonfiction would be pretty spicy.

Talk about any kind of nonfiction you're reading (art, science, self-help, how-to's, spirituality, politics, history, etc)

Just got some ebooks for Havelock Ellis' Psychology of Sex series, which I'll probably start tomorrow.

Ever read Brian Greene's The Fabric of the Cosmos? It's a witty physics book in layman's terms.

Spyros Papapetros's (gosh darn that last name) book On the Animation of the Inorganic is a great read though difficult to get. Unfortunately, he never got to addressing the point that humans are more empathetic toward the inanimate in the 21st century vs the 20th, but it might just be bad reading on my part. Either way, excellent segment on people's relationships with buildings, the comparison of snakes to locomotives, and a discussion on why we personify. It gets very dry when he's analyzing artworks, so I recommend leaving that part for later.

I once read the book The Mind of the Raven, and it was surprisingly good. I can't remember how to spell the author's name, so I won't even try. The book itself is about ravens and their intelligence and the author's study of them.
